Work Text:

When Jake had stepped into the loop, his whole life changed drastically.

Everything was real, the home, the children, Miss Peregrine looking at Olive and Emma with a disappointed look for making her kill the policemen for the thousandth time.

After this first moment, everything had happened like lighting, he couldn’t comprehend most of it until he was back home. The thing he couldn’t get his head wrapped around the most was, when he met Emma, he thought she was pretty, and he was always fascinated by her when his grandpa talked about her. It felt like he knew her forever.

Still, when he met Enoch in person, it was something entirely different. His grandpa hadn’t talked a lot about the boy, saying his peculiarity was something dark and that he wasn’t the most pleasant person to talk to. No fascinating stories. It was almost the opposite of how he felt when meeting Emma, not knowing him at all. Though what he did feel and thought, in a whole other intensity, was that Enoch was pretty handsome and interesting, a mystery he could figure out.

If Enoch wouldn’t have just gone away, Jake probably would’ve stared at him for an inappropriate amount of time, instead he was gone in a heartbeat, dismissive of Jake. He didn’t let that bother him though, okay, maybe a bit. How could it not when his first thought was how beautiful Enoch was, and the other boy's first thought was probably how much he didn’t want this stranger, grandson of a man that left them all, in his home.

A few hours went by until Jake was shown Enoch's peculiarity. He knew Enoch was trying to intimidate him with this fight between the creepy and ugly puppets, but he couldn’t help but be fascinated by it. After one of the puppets pierced the knife through the other one's heart, Enoch looked up with a grin, thinking Jake would run away soon after, but instead, his face dropped when he saw Jake seemed mostly unfazed by it.

Enoch tried another way of getting rid of him, he told him that Emma had sworn off romance long ago and if Jake was only going to stay for her, he should just leave already because Emma would never be interested in him.

Jake promised that no, he would not stay just because of Emma, he didn’t like her like that, but Enoch didn’t seem to believe him. He was blind to the fact that Jake was just staring at the other boy the whole time, admiring his face, even when he was trying to scare Jake away.

Until dinner, Jake hadn’t seen Enoch again and instead spent time with Emma and some of the others in the garden. He felt welcomed by everyone except Enoch of course and the twins never spoke, so they weren’t exactly welcoming but also not, not welcoming.

At dinner, Enoch, again, was very hostile towards Jake, and it escalated to a point where Emma left the table, frustrated with the possessiveness and anger of Enoch.

After dinner though, they were watching Horace dreams when after a bunch of dreams of boring old clothing, Emma and Jake were on a ship, kissing. A moment before, when Horace's dreams had shown what happened that day, Emma told him Horace dreams could be prophetic and then, suddenly, he was kissing Emma in the dream.

The children were very amused and wanted to see the rest of it while Emma was very embarrassed, as well as Jake, but he was also confused as to why he would kiss Emma. Olive also seemed shocked, and Enoch was gone when Jake started to look around the room.

When the reset came around, he didn’t dare look at Enoch and with Emma, things were a bit awkward. Instead of staying after, he decided to leave because of the tension between him and the other two. Emma took him back to the cave and he spent the night staring up at the ceiling thinking about his unreal day.

Everything that happened after was a whirlwind. The tension coming back even stronger, then it was slowly fading between him and Emma.

In addition to everything, he was indeed also peculiar, something he would’ve never expected. He knew he'd seen something others hadn't, but it still felt strange to him.

When they knew something was awry, he went out of the loop again but came back to the others soon, with Mr. Barron in tow.

In the fight between them, the Hollowgasts and Mr. Barron, he didn’t really have time to think about anything. He needed his plan to work and had timed it exactly.

When everything was done, he made the hurried decision to stay in 2016 and see his grandpa again, but his grandpa told him to leave and find the others before it's too late. He needed to travel the world his grandpa said, while that was true, what Jake realised was that he missed the others, needed to see them again.

The one he needed to see the most was Enoch though, he didn’t want the other one to hate him for leaving when he just started to trust and like Jake more after they fought together. Jake was still confused, but he knew he needed to go back to Enoch and so that’s what he did. It took almost a year and three different times, but he was finally at the right time and place, running to the ship that would soon be leaving the harbor, so he had to be fast.

When he was on the ship, he saw the image of Horace's dream in front of him, the ship, the sun setting and Emma standing at the railing, but instead of him kissing her, he told her what he did and went to hug her, she tried to kiss him.

”I’m sorry Emma, I just don’t love you in that way, Horace's dreams are not always prophetic you know, sometimes they’re just dreams.“

Emma looked disappointed, but she could accept that this was the reality, not everything could be like a dream, though Jake hoped one of his dreams would come true soon.

He went under deck, trying to find Enoch and soon did, at the front of the ship looking out through a window.

The other one hadn’t seen him yet as his back was turned in the other direction, Jake took that as an opportunity to sneak up next to Enoch and look at him. It had been almost a year for him, though Enoch, like Emma, had seen him only a few minutes ago, so Jake wasn’t sure how much Enoch had reflected on his feelings for Jake, love or hate, but Jake definitely had enough time.

Jake missed looking at Enoch and looking at him again made him feel like his stomach could explode.

Enoch turned around, sensing someone near him and was startled to see Jake next to him.

”I told you not to come back for Emma.“

”I didn’t.“

And with that, Jake kissed Enoch, with too much force, but this was the push Enoch needed to kiss back, passionately and as forceful as Jake. Teeth grazing and their lips swelling, their breath coming quicker until they had to part and looked each other in the eyes.

Enoch looks a bit ashamed of himself, not believing he just did that, he thought he hated Jake, no matter if he was pretty and cute. He thought Jake would never come back and if, only for Emma. Now he did come back, for him, he chose him over Emma, he chose the one that tried to make him scared and tried to get rid of him instead of the nice and pretty girl.

”You know, I’ve wanted to do that since I’d first seen you, I almost choked on my chocolate when I saw Horace's dream, because I knew if I’d kiss someone it would be you not Emma, though you seemed to hate me from the first second and thought my dream would also never come true."

”I didn’t hate you, especially not now, I…sorry.“

”What?“

”I’m not repeating myself, Jake, once's enough.“

”Fine, as long as kissing me once wasn’t enough.”

To that, Enoch didn’t reply, instead he kissed Jake again, this time slower, savoring the feeling of kissing him like Jake would leave again any second and he needed to remember every inch of Jake.
