Chapter Text
For the past few years, life was pretty hectic for that little hedgehog. Originally from Kilpeck, she took a plane to New York and made friends with a duo of freelancers that had a lot of crazy adventures.
Those included solving a whole hypnosis scheme, a possessed Santa, time travel, and quite literally going through hell and back. But the latest adventure would change their lives forever, including hers, in a very strange way...

For the past week, the city was terrorized by a rampaging demonic monster version of Max giving off spores that fed on dreams.
She left the city for a while and returned when she found out there was a lead. She was urged to stay awake like the others, but there was only so much a bunch of power naps and energy drinks could do.
Just as the tumour was about to be excised however, the rescue team had to be evacuated because Sybil's baby decided then was a good time to be born, leaving Max's superego to take over the operation.
Clover looked up to see Max's head burst aflame, a shot of adrenaline shooting up her spine.
Nonono-! He couldn't die! He couldn't-!
She then heard a whistling sound akin to a firework, then the unmistakable voice of her canine friend, Sam.
"Quick, Giant Max! Get out of there! The last Maimtron is headed your way!"
Indeed, the Maimtron was speeding up to Max, hitting him square in the chest, making him let out a bloodcurdling scream.
NO! This couldn't be happening! She thought they'd be able to save him!
(...)
"It's alright, Clover. The cloning machine will be just about ready." Superball reassured in his usual monotone voice, rubbing Clover's back comfortingly.
The hedgehog could feel herself start to drift off; she knew she could now fall asleep safely, but she wanted to see the new clone of her friend...
(...)
"Try this, Momma Bosco! It should be crawling with Max's DNA and God knows what else!"
"Perfect! This should only take a few minutes!"
Those minutes felt like hours to Clover, and most likely everyone else in the room. Soon enough, the cloning process was done and the door opened.
"Hey there, little......buddy?" Among the cloud of smoke, there was nothing. "What happened?" Sam asked.
"It looks like Max's DNA is just too weird for my machines to be able to reproduce. There's nothing we can do. I'm sorry, Sam." Mama Bosco replied with a look of sadness and understanding.
Clover's face dropped. One of her best friends was seemingly gone forever....
"Aww, tough break, Sam-o! At least he went out saving the universe."
"As President, I'd just like to offer my... I can't do this now... I just can't..."

After walking for a bit, the fatigued hedgehog curled up in an alleyway and drifted off to sleep, but that only lasted a few minutes.
Clover saw a classic red phone box appear in front of her, but she thought she was either dreaming or delusional from lack of sleep.
She saw the door open and heard a British voice on the other side.
"Umm, Alexander? I think you made a wrong turn somewhere."
A Scottish voice followed after.
"Strange, it's not often it ends up in other universes altogether...."
Another British voice chimed in.
"Let me go outside for a second and check."
A tall, female brunette stepped out of the phone box and looked around.
"Seems like we're in New York, so right place......oof, the Statue of Liberty seems pretty banged up, so definitely wrong universe."
The hedgehog went up to her and tapped her calf. "Excuse me, what's happening?"
"Oh, it'd be too long to explain, really. ....are you all just sentient animals?"
"Most of us are humans like you, actually."
Clover thought that maybe if she came with those strangers, she could forget about everything that just happened to her.
"....can I join you guys?"
The brunette thought for a second. The hedgehog would probably be pretty startled by the people that she usually spent her time with, also she was supposed to be at that invention presentation by now...
"I guess so. My name's Jemima Penhold, by the way."
"Mine's Clover." She yawned. "I'm sorry, the past week's been chaos..."
Jemima picked Clover up and headed back in. Clover thought she could hear a foreign accent just before she faded back into unconsciousness. She wasn't sure about the exact region, but she could tell it was definitely Slavic.
"Umm, Jemima? What's that?"
And with that, her eyelids grew heavy, and she drifted back to sleep...
---
After returning to the proper timeline and seeing Nikola get rejected AGAIN, Jemima decided to make the new stranger comfortable as soon as the two got back to the clock tower.
She got to her room, got a spare cushion out, and placed Clover on top of it.
The hedgehog still hadn't woken up, she must've been so exhausted...
(...)
Clover slowly opened her eyes. ....where was she? She saw a duck waddle up to her, tilting its head a bit.
She let out a scream, causing some footsteps to dash over.
"A-are you okay?!" The brunette from earlier practically burst through the door.
"Wh-where am I?! What is this place?!"
"Well.....you're in my room." Jemima said opting to save the stuff about said room being in Big Ben, it being 1941, and the rest of the team being actual historical scientists for later.
She gave Clover a while to be familiar with her surroundings. The hedgehog looked at the clock; it was currently 9:34am.
"So......you live with anybody?"
"I see you've met my pet duck. Besides that, yeah. Nikola, Marie, Charles, and a few others." Trying to avoid using names that would make things obvious.
"I'm going to have to meet them later on." The hedgehog's stomach gurgled slightly. Not only hadn't she slept much, she hadn't eaten much either.
"Oh right, breakfast. I'll go fix you something." Jemima said, patting Clover's head and heading to the kitchen.
Clover lay her head back on the pillow. This was already lot to take in, and unbeknownst to her, there was going to be much more.....
Jemima returned about 10 minutes later with Clover's breakfast; eggs on toast with a glass of milk.
Clover started nibbling away, hoping things would make a bit more sense when she had a full stomach. She pulled out a container of banana flavouring, unscrewed the lid, and put some of the powder into the milk.
