Another chance

Summary:

What if both Gin and Vodka got shrunk....

(Sorry for the long hiatus 😅😅 I was not sure do I want continue on this story, but during this break I’ve decided to continue this ✨✨ new chapter is currently in the making, so stay tune ✨✨)

Notes:

I recently got back into Detective Conan, this show was my entire childhood, and now after years, it is still one of my favorite shows. After I grew up, I realized just how shippable Gin and Vodka are. But there is barely anyone who writes for these two, sooooooo I decided to fuck it and write my own story. I typed the first chapter in a day, and I am just getting back to writing fanfiction after years of hiatus, so the beginning might not be very good. I have already planned some of the future chapters, and with me, currently on break the update would be pretty frequent (Let's hope). More tags and characters will be added as the story progresses. Anywayyyyyyy, enjoy the story <3.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Buzz Buzz

The peaceful and calming atmosphere of the night was disrupted by the annoying ring of Vodka’s phone. Due to the tiredness of the previous night’s mission, Gin was knocked out immediately as soon as his head hit the pillow of their shared bed. The mission was simple, the elimination of some traitors, but those rats were more clever than both Gin and Vodka had suspected. The pair managed to finish the job with minor injuries, some bruises here and there, but the frustration of relocating those traditors –who scattered the very moment they realized their betrayal had been discovered– were enough to bring the Top Killer and his most trusted follower to the brink of exhaustion.

What was supposed to be a night of peace, of rest in each other’s arms, was ruined the moment Vodka’s phone began to ring. Resurfacing from the sea of sleep, Vodka carefully pulls himself out of the loose embrace of Gin –unknowing to everyone, the most feared member of the organization was a big cuddler, well beside Vodka, who experienced firsthand just how clingy the silver-haired killer can be. Immediately after he had detangled himself from his lover, the latter unconsciously snatched his pillow, hugged it close, and processed to curl around the cushion that carried the comforting scent of him. A soft smile began to form as Vodka witnessed the adorable scene taking place right in front of him, and what makes it more special is that he is the only one that gets to see Gin in this way.

God, how did he get this lucky

Just as he begins to reminisce about all the events that have led to the bond he shared with Gin, his aniki, the phone rings again. Sighing, not wanting to wake up his partner, he gets up and walks out of the bedroom while picking up the call. “Hello?” His response was laced with fragments of sleep, but the voice from the other side immediately shattered any tiredness that was left in his body.

“Come to XXX, do not bring anyone with you” The voice is one he could never forget; it belongs to a man that even his aniki would never dare go against; it is Rum, the second in command, the right-hand man of the Boss. Before he had the chance to ask for the purpose behind such a request, the line went silent. Knowing the sudden end of the phone meant it was not an invitation but an order, he went back to the bedroom and quietly got dressed in the same suit and hat he wore on every assignment. Before he leaves the apartment, his curiosity gets the best of him as he searches up the location that Rum has sent him immediately after the call.

A forest?

His brows furrowed as he stared at the search result on his phone. Why would Rum want to meet him in the forest? What is he trying to do? Uneasiness began to settle in his stomach like butterflies, but not the kind you get when faced with someone you like; instead, it is the kind that formed when faced with the possibility of death. Every nerve in his body is sensing that something terrible will happen if he goes, that if he set foot in that forest he might not come out alive. Despite his instinct telling him to stay and ask what Gin has to say about the “invitation”, Vodka decides to go knowing if he doesn’t it might drag his lover into trouble as well. Taking one last glance at his phone, he left the apartment.

His dress shoe clicks with each step he takes as he makes his way to the garage where all of his and Gin’s cars were parked. Instead of taking the signature Porsche 356 A, he took one of the least significant vehicles; it is an unspoken rule between the pair that the Porsche would only be used if both he and Gin were on the same assignment. Speaking of the Porsche, it was passed down by Gin’s father, who was also in the organization but sadly passed away during a mission.

Focus

He told himself as his mind began to spiral off to an entirely different topic that should not be his concern right now. He shakes his head, trying to get his mind straight, maybe he should have slept for another couple of hours, but the fear that Rum might take the lateness as a sign of disrespect is enough to get Vodka off of his ass immediately. With his mind back on track, he went to the cabinet that contained all of the car keys and grabbed the one to the Honda he usually drives when running errands. He got into the car and began to drive to the location with the nagging thoughts that he was going to regret this decision.

When he arrived, he parked the Honda along the edge of the forest and got out. The restless wind caressed his face as he advanced into the dark and gloomy forest. Branches snap under his weight, creating noises that echo throughout the quiet woodland, disturbing the calmness of the night. The summer crickets sing their tune without a care to the intruder of their land; bugs flatter along his path, communicating with each other through a series of buzzes, wondering what a human is doing in their home at this hour. Animals lurking in the shadows waiting to see what the intruder is going to do, patiently waiting for the sign to flee.

As Vodka shows up at the location, what waits for him is not a meeting but an ambush. He was immediately surrounded by dozens of members from the organization, and without saying a word, the group jumped on him. With years of experience under his belt, he easily knocks down the men in the front and a couple to his left and right, after all he was trained by Gin himself –who was under the teaching of some of the best martial art teachers in the world. While dealing with the enemies in the front, the ones in the back took this window of opportunity and tackled Vodka to the ground. His signature sunglasses were shattered as his face made contact with the forest floor; the front of his suit is now covered with dirt, and his hat has been flung to the side. He grunt as he tried to push against the force but failed as both of his hands were restrained behind his back.

All of a sudden, his head was pulled up as another pair of hands forced open his mouth and forced a pill down his throat. Immediately, he felt a sharp pain throughout his entire body. The weight that was once restraining him is now gone alongside all of his attackers, leaving him lying on the ground whimpering in pain. He tried to get up but the pain he felt prevented him from moving a single muscle; it was as if all his nerves were on fire, he couldn't do anything other than curl into himself as the pain grew tenser with each passing second.

Vodka knows he is not going to make it, but god does he hope he does; there are still so many things he has not done, so many words he has not spoken. He has once dreamed of getting both Gin and him out of the organization to start a new life somewhere else, but now it seems like a dream that is completely out of his grasp. He was thinking about proposing to Gin, god he even had the ring picked out and had carried it everywhere just waiting for the perfect moment to put his plan into action, but now he would never have the chance to show Gin just how much he loves him.

Maybe in another life where they never stayed in the organization, one that is not filled with the constant fear of losing each other. Or maybe they were never meant to have a happy ending; perhaps it is God’s punishment for all the lives they have taken that only through death could they leave this path of blood and violence. Regrets filled his heart as he thought about how if he hadn’t followed in his father’s footsteps and left when he got the chance, then maybe they could have lived the life they have been dreaming of since childhood, one filled with freedom and peace. Tears began to fall from his eyes as he slowly lost consciousness, as his vision began to blacken all he could think about was how he didn’t get to say goodbye to Gin.

I am sorry aniki

Forget me for leaving so soon
