Work Text:
There isn’t much that can be done while confined to a hospital bed; Tsukasa has learned that the hard way over the past few days. It’s nice when Fujio and the rest of Oya come to visit and cram the room with crazy amounts of noise and energy, but that’s only during visiting hours and isn’t everyday.
He can’t even lie to himself and say that he doesn't get lonely.
It’s just short of a week since Senomon’s attack, less than seven days since Amagai Kohei put him in here with a severe concussion, a dislocated shoulder, five shattered ribs, and a shit-ton of bruises all over his body. His body hurts even when he makes the smallest of movements, making it almost impossible for him to do anything on his own. He’s nothing short of helpless, and he hates it.
-
It’s officially been a week. Fujio and Todoroki came and visited him earlier in the day, but that was hours ago, and the visiting hours are coming to an end. It’s safe to say no one else is coming to visit him today. He’s positive his parents won’t come because he’s sure they don’t even know of this.
Just as he begins to nod off, a knock sounds on the door. A nurse peeks her head inside. “Takajo-san, are you up for a visitor?”
Tsukasa turns his head as far as he can. It can’t be Fujio, or anyone from Oya because the nurses at the reception desk have started to recognize their faces at this point and let them waltz in. Curiosity getting the best of him, he nods.
The nurse withdraws and opens the door, letting in the one of the last people he’d ever expect - Suzaki Ryo. He’s dressed more fitting for the February weather than Fujio or anyone from Oya ever does, still sporting the red Senomon jacket and pants, but with a fluffy black scarf and matching turtleneck underneath it. It’s impossible to ignore the large bouquet of colorful flowers that he holds in one hand while the other one is wrapped tightly in white bandages and hangs limply at his side.
He’s surprised. As unexpected as the visit is, he’s pleasantly surprised. “Are those get well soon flowers or ‘I’m sorry flowers’?” Tsukasa asks.
Suzaki struggles to find words. “Both.”
It comes out like a question, and Tsukasa doesn’t show it on the outside, but laughs in his head. Who would have known that the Suzaki Ryo is socially awkward. Often, he isn’t one to forgive, but after he stopped Amagai and he figured out the motive behind his actions, he’d found himself oddly endeared. Despite that, he still finds that saying “thank you” would be too much. “Put them in the window.” He’d get Fujio to bring him a vase for them tomorrow.
Suzaki does just that, placing them so the blooms are facing his bed. Tsukasa has never gotten flowers before, but Suzaki doesn’t need to know that.
He can’t deny that they are pretty - full of white and light blue sprigs, full, blue blossoms, and golden sunflowers. Flowers aren’t cheap, and these ones don’t look shabby, either. They must’ve cost a good amount, and he’s curious, but he doesn’t think it’d be appropriate to ask if he paid for them himself.
“Were they your idea?” Tsukasa asks.
Suzaki nods, face growing a little flushed. “It just seemed appropriate. I didn’t know what else to bring.”
Tsukasa sighs and sinks into the uncomfortable hospital mattress. Suzaki probably did pay for them himself. “I… appreciate them. How’s your hand?”
“My hand?” Suzaki sounds genuinely surprised at the question, and he brings up his hand looking slightly confused. “It’s healing.”
“Stitches?”
“Seven. Ko- Amagai did them.”
“Oh?” Tsukasa ignores the slip-up in favor of what Suzaki just said. He would have never guessed that someone like Amagai Kohei would possess a skill like that, but he supposes there was space for that little surprise. He kind of wants to ask how they’ve been doing since the confession, but that isn’t necessarily his to ask about.
Suzaki nods and exhales softly, as if saying that cost him a lot of energy. “Are you recovering well?” Tsukasa’s eyes follow Suzaki’s good hand to the necklace that hangs around his neck, watching as it becomes an outlet for his nervous energy.
“You could say that,” Tsukasa replies. Suzaki doesn’t need to know about the boredom that’s eating him from the inside out or how any sort of movement hurts or how his body aches perpetually. “The nurses say it should be three more weeks until I can leave.”
“I’m sorry,” Suzaki murmurs, bowing slightly.
Tsukasa stares, incredulous. “For what?” He says after a moment.
“In the parking structure when-”
“Suzaki.” Maybe it’s his tone or something else, but Suzaki stops the second he speaks and refuses to look him in the eye. “Suzaki, if there’s anyone I want an apology from, it’s Amagai, not you.”
Suzaki looks as if he has something to say, but someone knocks on the door. A nurse, one different from earlier peeks inside. “I apologize, but the visiting hours are now over.”
Suzaki bows to the nurse, and she closes the door. He turns back to Tsukasa. “Until next time?” He asks hesitantly.
“Sure. Until next time.” He says the last part under his breath after Suzaki is gone.

“Woah! Flowers?” Fujio holds up the bouquet to the sun slanting in through the windows, looking at them with amazement. “From who?”
Tsukasa smiles and looks at flowers. “Someone.”
“Tell me,“ Fujio whines. “Who?”
Tsukasa’s gaze goes beyond the flowers, out the window and outside. “Let’s just say he’s someone you know.”
