Worried

Summary:

WALL-E hurts himself on accident. he's worried about worrying EVE, who is certainly worried herself

Work Text:

WALL-E hurried home. Today was a long day, and he was tired. Well, as tired as a robot can get. He wanted to rush home and clean himself up because he may or may not have accidentally done something rather stupid. Which may or may not have resulted in him getting injured, his eye piece shattered and in ruins. He had spare parts though, that's not what he was worried about.

He was worried about what EVE would say.

That almost makes it sound like he's afraid of EVE. Which isn't the case. At all. He's not too keen on the scolding he's going to get, sure. But he's moreso afraid of her reaction. The thought of her frantically fretting over him is what sends him over the edge. He loves her, a lot. He doesn't want to see her upset. And she loves him. That's why he's going to get a scolding and never hear the end of it, because EVE loves WALL-E and wants him to be careful and safe. Something that WALL-E is undoubtedly bad at. He doesn't mean to be so clumsy and careless, he just finds neat things, gets lost in his own little world, and then suddenly he has a broken part or two.

He rushed home as fast as his little tracks could take him. Waiting for his door to slowly creek open, he impatiently tapped his fingers together. He zipped inside, trying to find the shelf where all his spare eyes were located. To no avail. He was partially blind right now, and him being in such a frenzy wasn't doing him any favors. He groaned, accidentally knocking a handful of his nick-nacks onto the ground. And then…! His tracks slipped over the newly-formed collection on the ground, sending him airborne for a second before he crashed to the floor.

"Oouhhhh…" he muttered. He decided to lay there for a minute. To recollect his thoughts and calm down. A second more relaxed attempt would help, surely.

Until he heard the truck's door being opened, and he yelped and got back onto his feet, chattering and aimlessly speeding throughout the place.

Once the door was opened, he was greeted by the sleek, stunning image of his lover. EVE.

She greeted him in a friendly manner, a simple, "WALL-E~!" and smiled. Only to see her beloved looking on edge, and suspiciously covering his left eye with his hand. She shaped her eyes in a way that showed confusion, and carefully approached him.

"WALL-E…?" She removed his hand from his eye, and the mangled piece fell to the ground.

"Ah…" WALL-E breathed, refusing to look away from his shattered part on the ground.

EVE sighed and placed her head in her hands. And then she looked up at him. "WALL-E…" she began.

"Ee-vah…!" He interrupted, his hands gesturing for her to stop talking. He started looking for his spare parts again, still struggling, and EVE let out another sigh. She flicked the button that rotates the shelves around, and grabbed a new goggle for him.

He gratefully took it, trying to stick it into the socket. Once repaired, he let out a "Ta-da!", implying that everything was ok. But in EVE's eyes, everything was not.

She gently cupped the bottom of his head, her eyes turning into sad crescents.

"WALL-E." Despite how gently she was holding him, and despite how lovingly she stared into his eyes, she kept a strict tone of voice to keep his attention. "Can't keep doing this." She shook her head.

WALL-E's eyes drooped downwards. "I…knn-know." He struggled to get out.

EVE carefully lifted his head so that he was looking her in the eyes again. "Why then?" She questioned.

She switched to speaking in beeps rather than English for now. It was easier.

[Why do you keep hurting yourself, WALL-E? There aren't unlimited parts out there.]

"Acc-i-dent…" he replied sadly. He knew she was upset, therefore he was upset. "Ee-vah," he pointed to himself. "More…care-ful."

She nodded, understanding what he was saying. But she couldn't help but be…worried. She grabbed his hand.

[You understand why I get upset, right? Not mad at you, concerned for you.]

She closed her fingers, her hand now intertwined with WALL-E's. "Worried." she murmured.

He sighed, and EVE squeezed his hand.

[WALL-E?]

"Hmm?"

[I love you.]

He didn't even need to say anything. Him nuzzling EVE's head was enough to show that he felt the same. EVE knew he felt the same.

[WALL-E. Promise to be careful?]

He nodded. "Ee-vah…I…" Again, he struggled to get the words out. EVE patiently waited.

He settled on pointing to himself. "Moree…care-ful. Pr-o-mise."

She leaned into him, grateful. Then she thought.

[Idea. Tomorrow, we search for extra parts together. Just in case?] EVE offered. She wouldn't mind searching, plus it'd be something her and WALL-E could do together. Besides, once she glanced up at the shelves, she noticed he was in fact running low on a couple goggles and whatnot.

"Ooh!" WALL-E's eyes lit up at the sound of that. He liked working with EVE, they made a great team.

It was decided. Both would take a break from their current jobs to ensure that WALL-E had plenty of spares. WALL-E would try to be more careful, for both his sake and EVE's, and EVE would make sure WALL-E had more than enough parts to go around. Just in case.

They didn't have to worry about this persistent problem anymore. Which made the pair plenty happy.
