Work Text:
Five months later, Carbon Copy is on the front cover Manic Music Magazine and they’re having a small party to celebrate.
“Hey,” Atsumu greets you as you join him on the couch, he has a note book in his lap and a pen behind his ear. Kei is over in the back of the living room where he sits at the drums, listening through his headphones at the beat he playing, learning the new songs Atsumu wrote for their next album.
“What’s up, Shakespeare,” you joke, hinting towards the pen in his ear. He laughs and closes his notebook. “Working on something?” You ask him, noticing he’s being being secretive, eyeing you playfully as he hides it under his thigh.
“Nothin’,” he plays, pulling the book out and flipping through the pages.
“Nothin’ sounds like somethin’,” you tease, nudging him with your elbow.
“Ugh, fine you twisted my arm,” he says over dramatically, you didn’t even try that hard. “I’ve got a few lines down, but can you help me round it out?” He asks, flipping the pages to the song he’s working on. “Tsukishima said you write your own stuff and none of these ungrateful vermin I call band mates know how to write anything,” he rolls his eyes, making you laugh.
“Sure, what do you have so far?” You smile at him.
“Well, to be honest,” he smirks. “It’s about you,” he whispers. Your eyes widen at him, scared of what’s he’s hinting at, inching back from him slowly. “No! Not like that!” He shouts, waving his hands in front of him. “I mean, Tsukishima and I were talking and you came up and he said some things that sounded like good lyrics,” he explains quickly.
“You guys were talking about me, so you wrote a song about me?” You ask slowly.
“No, look,” he sighs, handing you his note book to read the words on the page. “I asked Tsukishima how you guys met, and he told me how you were the first girl to really notice him,” he says pointing to the title of the song - Notice Me.
“Sorry about the cancer, by the way,” he nods to the scar on your neck, making you frown.
“Why are you apologizing? You didn’t give it to me,” You try to joke, but it comes out less lighthearted than you intended.
“Yeah, he also said you’re kind of an asshole,” he laughs. You roll your eyes at look over at Kei, staring intensely down at the kit as he listens to the track.
“He said that he’s always had bad luck when it came to girls, that he never really thought he’d fall so hard for someone. He never used to care about love and stuff, but when you came along, that changed. Said he hated how you made him feel at first, but now he never wants to let you go,” he recalls his conversation with Kei to you.
Your heart aches at the secret admission of how he fell in love with you. He never talks about his feeling unless you ask, and that’s not exactly something you’ve had the courage to do. So, for Atsumu to be inspired by his words, it means a lot to you as you gaze over at Kei, blushing brightly as Atsumu watches your face. How you smile at an unknowing Kei, and bite your lip at the thought of him saying such sweet things about you to someone.
“He also said you called him out on his toxic behavior of being jealous when you’re around other guys,” he pokes, making you laugh.
“Yeah, but he has nothing to worry about. He’s the only one I see,” you say, sweetly, still gazing over at him on the drums. Like no one else exists and it’s just the two of you in the room.
Atsumu breathes a laugh, writing down something quickly on the page. He hands you the book, silently telling you to read what he’s jotted down, making you smile up at him.
“This is really good,” you say, blushing at how Kei’s love for you inspired a song. “A little perverted, but sweet,” you joke.
“Yeah, I had to add my flair to it,” he laughs. “Wanna try it out?” He asks, pulling up his guitar from behind the couch.
Strumming it softly, he starts to sing his lyrics.
Talk dirty, you got your hand in my jeans
You're perfect, and everything in between
Mm, yeah, keep moaning, 'cause we're making a scene
Keep going, until they tell us to leave
You roll your eyes at him. You know his dirty lyrics will work wonders on all of the girls in the crowd.
Let's dance when we're not supposed to be
Can't stand when you're not close to me
Damn, can't believe you notice me, notice me
He points to the words meant for you to sing, trying to figure out the melody and placement, you settle on a wispy, breathy, sort of feeling of love.
Only thought I'd have you in my dreams
Things you say leave me feelin' weak
And those brown gold eyes of yours are all that I need
And you whisper that I'm all that you see
Atsumu sings the chorus again, smiling at you as he does, nodding for you to join him in the second half.
Smiling at each other, you two clean up the lyrics a bit and fiddle with the melody on the guitar, bringing in Suna on the keyboard for a different feel.
Kei finally comes over during the process and sits next to you on the couch, listening to the words of your collaborative song as you sing it to him. When he realizes that some of the words sound familiar, he blushes, playfully punching Atsumu in the arm as Atsumu laughs at him.
“You’re kind of sweet, you know that?” You whisper to him as Atsumu talks with Suna about the song.
“Everything he said to you is a lie,” he jokes, smiling out of the side of his mouth, peering over at you from the corner of his glasses.
“Oh, I take it back, you’re just an asshole,” you laugh. Kissing his cheek, he wraps his arms around you, pulling you into his chest.
“That’s more like it,” he smiles into your mouth, kissing you, sweetly.
