Lady backed up, exchanged a few more awkward words, and turned to leave. She told herself that the surge of excitement she had felt was only from getting the muzzle off her. It was nothing at all to do with being so near to that dog, his chest under her front paws.
When he caught up with her... it was simply that she might like company for her way home.
Those attempts at ignoring what she felt gave way.
She had an evening of discovering new places, before a night that left Lady knowing how to howl at the moon.
