The brunette slowly walked down the flight of stairs, careful not to slip on the wooden floor. ‘I should’ve brought an umbrella..’ he frowned, looking down at his slightly wet suit. It started raining while he was on the way to the bar. Dazai broke out of his thoughts after hearing a familiar voice calling him. He looked up, meeting a pair of dark brown eyes. He smiled and strode towards the older man, greeting him with a small wave before sitting down beside him.
"Odasaku.. Where’s Ango? Is he late again?” Dazai asked, looking at the bar’s entrance before looking back at him. He was silent for a moment before nodding his head, Oda wasn’t much of a talker. They continued talking, well, Dazai did most of the talking. Oda nodded his head, silently listening to him ramble on about a small ginger Mori had recently partnered him up with.
—
After a bit of hanging out and waiting, the entrance door creaked, the two turned their heads to the the sound and noticed Ango walking down the stairs with a bag in his hand and an umbrella in the other. “It’s raining hard out there..” Ango spoke, he sounded out of breath. “Ango, you’re late again!” Dazai whined playfully, He watched Ango put the bag down on the counter, “What’s this?” he asked, tilting his head, ready to take a peek inside, but Ango swatted him away. “You’ll see later.”
Dazai sighed and rolled his eyes, spinning around on the chair out of boredom. Ango puts away his umbrella and pulls up a chair next to Dazai.
He placed the bag in front of Dazai and spoke, “I’m hoping it didn’t get ruined along the way here.” Dazai's eyes quickly scanned the package in front of him, only to receive a confirmation to the thoughts already swarming in his brain. He carefully removed the item from the bag, revealing a slice of chocolate cake and candles that were still in its packaging.
“I’m not sure what kind of cake you liked since we’ve never really discussed it..” Ango spoke, a bit nervous. Dazai’s lips trembled slightly and his eyes stung a bit, he took a deep breath and sighed before looking up to the bartender, “Sir, do you have a lighter?"
—
“AIYATATA. HOW DO I OPEN THIS..” Dazai shouted out, frustrated, the two older men watched in amusement as the brunette struggled to open the candle’s packaging, Dazai let out a huff before taking the lighter from the counter, ready to light it up, Oda took the packaging away from Dazai before he could set anything on fire and simply tore it apart, he handed him the candles. Dazai stared at Oda before letting out a tsk, “I could’ve done it myself.. “ he mumbled before sticking the candles into the cake Ango bought.
He lit the candle up one by one, the bartender dimmed the lights a bit, Oda gave a small thumbs up and nodded in appreciation. He smiled back before retreating to the back, leaving the trio alone for a bit. Both Oda and Ango started singing happy birthday. After they were done, he blew out the candles and the room went dark.

The brunette slowly walked down the flight of stairs, careful not to slip on the wooden floor. “I’m glad I brought an umbrella this time,” he thought. He broke out of his thoughts after hearing a familiar voice call his name, he looked up, meeting a pair of lightly colored eyes. “ Ango.. “ Dazai's eyes widened a bit, not expecting to see him here. Dazai made his way towards the counter and sat a chair away from Ango, he took off his beige trench coat, resting it on his lap.
The bartender, now older, with noticeable white streaks in his hair and wrinkles, spoke, “It’s been a while since I’ve last seen you two together, where’s your other friend?” He asked, questioning about Oda, the bar was silent until Dazai spoke up, “.. He’s not joining us today.” The bartender nodded his head, “He can come back next time then.”
The bar was silent once more until Ango stood up from his seat, he handed Dazai a bag, “I have to go, happy birthday, Dazai.” Ango spoke, picking up his umbrella and leaving the bar. Dazai took out a plastic container with chocolate in it, along with candles that were out of its packaging, he noticed a photo taped to the container, taking it off, and observed it.
It was a picture of them. Oda sat on his right and Ango on his left, in front of Dazai was the chocolate cake Ango had bought that day, Dazai looked at the photo more closely and noticed something small, he was smiling, a genuine smile was on his face.
