Chapter Text
Coultenet was out late on a mission, and while Hoary knew he was fine, - he did - he couldn’t help the nervous energy thrumming through him. So he waited up, long past when the Doman children were herded off to bed. Oir, sometime later, drifted her way over with a gentle smile and joined him.
“Can’t sleep?” she asked, and Hoary nodded.
“Can’t sleep.”
It wasn’t a lie when he said it.
Here was the thing about the Warrior of Light though; everything seemed a little less daunting when she was around. Her steady presence lulled the anxiety right out of him, and soon enough Hoary found himself with his face unceremoniously smushed into Oir’s shoulder, snoring quietly.
Oir had to stifle a laugh to keep from waking him.
Half a bell later, Coultenet came through the door to the Rising Stones - tired and a little ruffled, but no worse for wear. He had to bite back a laugh of his own at the sight. Oir grinned at him, almost mischievous, and put a finger to her lips.
“Oh Hoary,” Coultenet chuckled softly, making his way over to the pair. “How long have you been stuck like this, Oir?”
“Long enough,” Oir smiled, keeping her voice to a whisper. “How was the mission? Do you need anything? Any ills that need healed?”
“I’m alright - thank you.” Coultenet knelt before his fiancé and friend, gently taking Hoary’s shoulder. “Hoary, love, it’s time to wake up.”
“Mmph?”
Both Coultenet and Oir were forced to smother laughs - again.
“Help me with him?” Oir asked, and Coultenet nodded. It took some finagling, but the two managed to rouse Hoary enough to realize what was going on and get him to his feet. The roedagyn, just awake enough to realize it was now his fiancé holding him, snuggled into Coultenet’s neck happily.
“Wel’cm ba’ Coult’nt”
This time, Oir did laugh. Coultenet just looked fond. Oir shook her head, smiling.
“You boys going to be alright?” she asked. They nodded, and she smiled wider. “Alright then; have a wonderful evening, you two.”
“Same to you, Oir.”
