Basil was sitting on the floor in his room, it was dark out and the only light in his room came from the moon. He didn’t know what time it was but he guessed it was at least after midnight. The only thing in his hands is his gardening scissors, he remembered when his friends had gifted this to him for his birthday many years ago, he had smiled and hugged them in thanks. Now it would be the final thing he would ever see. He took a deep breath in and out, raised the gardening scissors, and plunged it into his stomach. At first, it felt like he was being punched really hard, but then the pain sunk in and he couldn’t help but shriek in agony. But he quickly covered his mouth with a hand as he pulled the scissors out with the other, he knew if he didn’t he wouldn't bleed out as fast as he would like. He discarded the scissors aside and hoped his scream didn't wake anyone, but to his dissatisfaction, he heard footsteps from outside his room. The door knob rattled and heard somebody knock on the door.
“Basil? We heard you scream, is everything alright?” It was Polly, the caretaker his parents had hired when they heard that his grandma couldn’t take care of him because of how sick she was getting. He opened his mouth to reply but nothing came out, and his whole body was hot and ached. He felt his eyes burn and tears start to pour from his eyes. The only thing he could see around him was blood, the trimmer was covered in it. And he swore he could see little eyes in the blood. It looked like something. The doorknob was still rattling, he had been lucky he locked it.
“Basil?! Basil?! Why aren’t you answering? Are you okay?!” A different voice spoke, it was Kel. Basil tried again to say that he was fine and that he had only dropped something and it had startled him but still nothing came out.
“Basil, we’re coming in, okay?” It was Aubrey. Basil’s first friend, but he was also the first one to turn on him after Mari died, and for something he didn’t even do. He heard the door being pushed, kicked, and hit with a lot of force behind it. His vision started to turn dark and blurry around the edges. He hoped he would lose consciousness before they broke down the door, but turns out things just aren't going his way today because suddenly the door flew open with all his friends and Polly behind it. His hearing was muffled but he could tell that they were screaming and all in shock. Polly stood there like a deer in headlights, Kel looked like he was going to be ill, Hero already had tears streaming down his face, Aubrey had a hand covering her mouth, And even Sunny with his usual emotionless face looked horrified and had fear in his eyes. Basil knew he was about to faint from blood loss but he tried to keep his eyes open and smiled at his friends and Polly.

Basil… Sunny thought as he ran over to his friend but he noticed that Basil was looking at them. He had believed that they were too late but he was still alive. He quickly looked at Polly who was still in shock and yelled. “He's still alive 911!” Kel then ran over to Basil and clutched his hand.
“Hey, Basil! Don’t close your eyes, okay? We’re all right here and we’re gonna get you some help.” But Basil didn’t answer or even show he heard him and was still looking into the distance.
Aubrey waved her hands in the air, trying to get his attention. But Basil still didn’t look over at her. Sunny then noticed the gardening scissors beside him. It was covered in blood, he quickly picked it up and pushed it into the other corner of the room. Sunny’s eyes burned with tears and he felt them travel down his face. He looked back to Basil and saw that he was crying as well. Sunny hadn’t noticed but everyone except for Polly- who had run outside the room to go to call 911 a few seconds ago.- Was beside Basil. Then Sunny had an idea.
“Basil? Can you look at me, please?” He asked and suddenly Basil’s eyes met his. “Can you hear us?” He questioned and saw that Basil tried to hold up his hand and made a movement with his finger that he guessed meant a little. “Okay, that’s good. Just please do not close your eyes, focus on someone or something to keep you awake okay?” Basil nodded, but Sunny could tell he wouldn’t be able to keep his eyes open for much longer but everyone still tried to keep him awake by saying random things to him. Then Basil’s eyes closed and everyone tried to convince him to open them but he didn’t and his breathing was shallow. Nobody knew what to do, but then they heard sirens coming down the street and saw an ambulance stop in front of the house.
Then he heard the door open and they all moved out of the way to let the paramedics take him out of the room and house on a stretcher. The only sounds were the sobs and sniffles from him and everyone around, Polly's wobbly voice, and the paramedics. Once they left Polly came into the room and said.“Everyone in the car we’re going to the hospital.” They walked outside and Polly got into the front seat, Hero in the passenger, and Sunny, Aubrey, and Kel in the back, but there were only two back seats so they had to squeeze in. Nobody spoke during the car ride, the radio wasn’t on and the only sounds were of the passing cars.

Basil woke up and the only thing he could see was white, the only thing he could hear was beeping and the only thing he could feel was the pain in his stomach. Am I dead? He wondered, but to his dismay, once he looked around the room he realized that he wasn't in fact dead but instead in Faraway Hospital. No, why didn’t I die?! I don’t want to be here. He wished that he hadn’t screamed, or that he did it another way. He started crying out of anger and for surviving his attempt, he felt like clawing his skin off in anger. He held his face in his hands and let the tears spill. But then he heard the door open and close, he looked up and saw a young woman who doesn’t look to be over 35 walk in and sit beside him in one of the chairs beside the bed.
“Hello Mr. Fey, I am Dr. Kimura. Do you know why you’re in the hospital?” She had a checkboard in her hand and a pen in the other. She moved her black hair behind her ear as she looked at Basil, expecting a response, but she spoke again. “Can you speak? It may be hard but I want you to try, alright Mr. Fey?" Basil nodded, and he opened his mouth to speak.
“U-um, yes I d-do know why I'm h-here.” His voice was hoarse, ragged, and quiet. “Al-also you can j-just call me Basil.” He wasn’t even sure he heard what he said but then she wrote something down which he guessed meant she could hear him. She stood up and walked closer to him.
“Very good, Basil. We’ll speak again soon, but some people want to see you. Do you want to see them? If you don't then me know and I'll tell them they can see you later.” Dr. Kimura asked she had a kind smile on her face as she spoke. Basil thought for a moment, he wanted to see his friends so he nodded. Dr. Kimura walked out of the room and a few minutes later the door opened and his friends walked in.

As Sunny walked into the room he and Basil made eye contact and he walked over to the blonde. Sunny hugged him gently, not wanting to hurt him because he didn’t know how healed the wound he has is and he didn’t want to reopen the wound. Basil also put his arms around Sunny and they stayed like that for a while. He heard sniffles coming from Basil and he rubbed his back and pulled him closer. But he pulled away as the others came closer, everyone hugged Basil and cried with him, they all took turns talking to him, while Polly continued talking to Dr. Kimura. Sunny could guess why Basil had tried to kill himself, the guilt from Mari, and his already fragile mental state even before. Sunny wasn’t stupid he could have guessed why Basil knew how to tie a noose at twelve. Then he saw Polly walk back in and walk over to Basil
“Basil, Dr. Kimura says that after you’ve recovered from your injury you’ll be sent to a Mental Hospital, and after she recommends therapy so they can help you with your mental state and look after you to make sure you won't do this again. Basil, we love you, so, so much, and we all want you to know that you’re loved and that you’re not and will never be alone, we are all here for you.” Polly walked up to the gardener and hugged him gently, Basil started to cry. After a few seconds, he wiped away his tears and spoke.
“O-okay, thank you guys, I love yall too.” His voice was quiet and rough, and everyone looked over to Dr. Kimura, concerned.
“Don’t worry, his voice should be normal in a month or so. But he needs more rest right now, you guys can see him again in a few hours.” She stood by the door as they all walked out and closed the door behind them. Sunny was glad that Basil was going to get the help he needed and he smiled for the first time in years as he went to talk to his friends.

It’s been a few months and Basil is healing and trying to forgive himself for what he did, of course, he still has his ups and downs but they aren't as extreme anymore. His friends help him when they can and Sunny visits every so often. The only thing that worries him is that they still haven’t told them the truth about Mari.
