Within the King's Court (Semi-hiatus)

Summary:

"You knew you belonged to me and yet you have the nerve to come here scent muted, to try and trick me?!" Namjoon felt his skin burning with anger, and began squeezing the Omega's neck. "The merciful Goddess made you one way, just for me and yet you are impudent and think you can change that and hide it Well, not anymore, Omega. You belong to me now."

Yeosangs body was only now slowly beginning to react in ways he didn't want to. However the pheromones were doing their thing though The alphas scent alone was making his head spin and he was fighting his inner wolf to not cave into it and that hurt, a spike of pain flashed behind his eyes like the worst migraine he'd ever experienced. When one was disconnected with their inner wolf pains like this could happen.

In the kingdom of Aurora Omegas are supposed to present their magical powers to the crown upon pain of death, Yeosang has hidden his ability. Summoned to stand before the King He uses perfumes and a false sense of confidence to mask the fact that he is an omega and stands before the King only to be discovered.

Magical powers were common in the Kingdom of Aurora. The Goddess Lunara had blessed the wolves here; those born under a full moon were granted gifts. Many wolves gained speed, strength, and the ability to heal. However, some were born with unique gifts like telekinesis, mind reading and the ability to control the elements. Yeosang was an omega born under a full moon with a powerful gift to see into the future. He was famed far and wide in his small area of the world and had been hailed as the town's oracle. His prophecies always came true, and all he had to do was touch a person's forehead with a hand, and their future would flit before his eyes.  But Yeosang his sub-gender from everyone using scent-blocking herbs and heat-suppressing teas, even working out so his lean frame could look more like a beta. His mother told him that if the news that he was an omega got out, his life would be over. Their sub-gender were treated like whores, toys for alphas. Omegas with powerful gifts were immediately shipped off to royals and nobles to be part of harems and courts.

In a quaint cottage nestled deep within the heart of a lush forest, a young omega named Yeosang lived in peaceful solitude. Far away from the bustling world, he found solace in the quiet embrace of nature, tending to his garden and losing himself in the melodies of the wind. Unbeknownst to him, his life was about to take an unexpected turn.

One sunny morning, as the melodies of birds filled the air, a group of royal guards, their armor gleaming in the sunlight, arrived at Yeosang's doorstep. The tranquility of his humble abode shattered at the sound of their thunderous footsteps and the clinking of swords.

Startled, Yeosang rushed to the door, his heart pounding against his chest. With wide eyes, he beheld the insignia of the king adorning their armor. Confusion etched across his face, he struggled to comprehend the reason behind their visit. The guard captain, a stern but respectful figure, stepped forward. His voice carried authority and purpose.

"We are the Royal Guards, here on behalf of His Majesty," the guard captain announced, his voice carrying a weight of importance. "We have been sent to summon you, Yeosang, the Oracle, to the palace."

Yeosang's breath caught in his throat, and his mind swirled with a myriad of questions. Why did he have to be summoned now?

"I... I beg your pardon," Yeosang stammered, his voice trembling.

"His Majesty has heard there is great power within you, Yeosang," the guard captain explained, his tone respectful. "He seeks your guidance to glimpse into his future. The kingdom finds itself in need of your extraordinary abilities."

Yeosang's eyes widened, a mixture of fear and curiosity clouding his expression. How could this be? Panic bubbled within him, threatening to spill over. "I understand," Yeosang replied, his voice steadier now. "I will honor the king's request and accompany you to the palace."

Dread pooled in the Omega's gut; this was something he could not refuse; summons to the king's court wasn't something to be taken lightly.

And that's how he found himself on the doorstep of the palace hours later, bags in hand and dressed in the best clothes he had, a clean black blouse and pants and leather boots. The dark clothes brought out his pale skin, longish raven hair, and dark eyes.

The guard who had gathered him from his home opened the door to the palace, and a servant took his bags. "This way to the throne room. His Majesty is waiting for you." The guard said sternly as he led Yeosang through the palace halls and into the grand throne room.

The young oracle had never seen anything so grand in his life; his lips were parted in awe as he took everything in; he didn't belong here among such splendor. He prayed to the Goddess and the fates that this would all go well and that he could just go home. Soon he was pushed into an elaborate large room, and his name was announced to the king. And with that, the guard left, leaving Yeosang alone, in the center of a room full of court nobles and then the king himself.

───⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆───

Ever since he was a kid, Kim Namjoon was believed to be the one who would bring the Kingdom of Aurora to its heyday. He had been born as the eldest son of a beloved ruler: and as if it had been a matter of destiny, his parents (and the entire kingdom under their command) had made sure to pay almost every tribute to the Goddess, possible under the sky above, for him to be who he was and have the gifts he had. Their prayers had been heard.

From childhood, he was taught and nurtured to become the king's heir. He was taught war tactics, political science, the noble arts, and diplomacy at the same time as he was taught to read, count and calculate, and from that time on, he was known to be the most clever, most ambitious in his family.

It hadn't been a surprise when he presented as an Alpha at the beginning of his teenage years. The Goddess had been the most generous with the Kim family for generations, and with Namjoon, there wouldn't be an exception: it would only improve. He was physically and mentally trained to inherit the throne and protect his values and those of his family, and because of his upbringing, no one was taught to be more devoted to the Goddess than him. No one was as adamant about respecting the traditional values of society as the now crowned king, even after all the years where his parents had gone with her and where he had ruled in an attempt to listen to the Goddess' wishes.

It made him strict and radical.

It made him feared.

Namjoon was the wisest yet one of the most violent kings the kingdom had had, having brought only good conquests and expansions to it. He was beloved and respected by his people and was confident in his power. And thus, He sat on his throne with confidence only a king could hold, one leg on the edge of the seat, the other hanging low, and his back leaned all the way. He supported his head with his right hand, and with the other, he could reach and grab his drink from the platter one of his omega servants held.

"Liar." Namjoon's voice resonated through the chamber after a couple of minutes of pure silence when his day's appointment had walked in, and he stood in the middle of the room. All the court's eyes went from Namjoon to the peasant and back. The king had that kind of presence, which you didn't want to disturb, while it seemed lost in thought or attention. There was also the well-known fact that the tall man despised it when somebody else started a conversation or spoke before him. He was a man entitled to his birthright, one of them being nobody was more important than him because he was the king. Because he was the ultimate alpha of Aurora. No one had a better word than him.

He had taken his time to detail the being in front of him, frightened and evasive.

There was something wrong.

Namjoon's gift was simple to the eyes of the untrained. It worked like a hunch: something that peasants weren't able to sense or understand, but that to him meant something was off or, worse, someone wanted to deceive him. The king despised that with all his might and gut. His heart raced, his canines sharpened, and an immense need to growl and bite to death woke within him, whenever his gift told him there was a lie.

And that was exactly what he felt now, eyeing the one before him.

"I don't know what you're hiding, but I'm sure I will find out." He said; the stern voice tone that characterized him was implied in every word, spitting them with contempt. "I don't like liars. I'm sure you know."

It was how it usually went. The king had a special love for taking matters into his own hands, fighting his battles, and protecting himself from the viperous and vicious cycle that wanted to take advantage of his royal status and good name. Ever since he had gotten to the throne, he had made sure everyone in the palace and the kingdom knew he wasn't like his father, letting others rule his lands and his people.

Namjoon stood up from his throne, rare at this sort of meeting, and walked down the steps at the feet of the throne to get closer to the peasant that had been brought to him upon his request. He looked down at him, a severe look on his face. By his scent, it was evident that he was nervous, and the king could almost hear his heart beating as fast as a wild-gone horse.

"You are here before me because I was told you are powerful, yet you failed to report that to the crown. Is that the truth?".

Yeosang hadn't even spoken a word yet and was being called a liar? What had he done? Yes, he knew the king didn't like liars; who did? No one could have discovered his true sub-gender, only his mother knew that, and he knew she didn't tell a soul; she was too focused on keeping her son safe. Even going as far as to collect the correct herbs and make the suppressing teas and scent-blocking potions herself to help conceal her son from the prying eyes and probing hand of the crown. And Yeosang had NEVER told anyone about his true sub-gender; even his closest friends in the village believed that he was a beta, or even a sub-beta at best, because he tended to be more submissive around alphas.

"M-my lord, please understand, I didn't report it to the crown because only omegas are supposed to report their powers to the crown." Yeosang stammered out. His heart was pounding, and he hoped the king would at least believe this lie. He even smelled like a beta; he could pass as one and had done so for 23 years. "A-and my town needed me; I helped bring in money; our taxes were on time every month, my lord." He added. Which was true. As the town's only oracle, he brought people in from across the kingdom and beyond who would pay in gold to have their fortunes told. It had brought them from the brink of an economic decline, and now they were a prospering town with temples and more shops than ever before.

"My lord." Another omega, tall with dark hair, stood up. He had been lounging on the cushions that surrounded the throne. He wasn't dressed in much. They were the skimpiest clothes Yeosang had ever seen, causing him to realize that this was one of the royal consorts. "Before you stands an omega. He is lying to you, my king; this peasant isn't a beta; he's on suppressants and scent blockers. He is far too old to be a late bloomer."

Those words sent a jolt through Yeosang, and he glared daggers at the Omega. Fuck him for looking so posh and proper. He was just the king's bitch, after all. So that was what happened to the powerful omegas? They came here to work for the royal family or become the king's consorts. He had no words. No argument. No nothing. He was scared, frozen in place, looking at the ground before him, wishing he could sink into it.

Gasps went through the royal court at the omega consort's words. Obviously, they knew what this omega's power was, being able to read a person's sub-gender just by looking at them (almost like people who can see auras) while the king was telling the truth from lies. This news of the consorts' powers never reached the villages. Why would it? They were only beautiful things to the king or worked in the palace to some effect.

Yeosang felt all eyes on him, his face was burning with shame, and he felt the tears of desperation welling as he could hear the clinking of armor behind him as guards moved to block the exit in case he tried to run. He was trapped.

Nothing could've prepared Namjoon for what he was now hearing. The situation was absurd to him, he couldn't believe the time and age they were in, and after he had made sure his reputation was known in every corner of the kingdom, someone would dare to walk before him and lie, blatantly, about something so severe. He was fumed, knowing the lie he had sensed wasn't something in the past but something this peasant in question pretended to get away with when it was common knowledge that gifted Omegas belonged to the crown, to the king.

Before, he had been furious that such a powerful gift had been hidden from him and not offered to his service out of courtesy. This Omega shouldn't have brought wealth to his town; he should've brought it to the king instead. He should've been brought to be his consort long before that too. Namjoon was thankful to the Goddess for bringing the matter to his attention and for allowing him to remind the court how things were supposed to work, as he believed his duties were.
