Summary:

Wryth has a choice to make, and he needs to let go.

Notes:

Not my usual stuff but I’m actually pretty proud of it.

Work Text:

Wryth Darnsell came back home to a blaze of fire and ash. Just thirty minutes ago he was talking to one of the King’s ambassadors about letting them leave, and now his house is burning around him with the love of his life in his arms, coughing and wheezing out her final words “Wryth, you know I love you right?”

“Of course I do!”

“Than let it go, please”

“What?”

As the light faded out of Lilith’s eyes the world burned, and the inferno got hotter and hotter and it felt as if Wryth was standing on the sun itself. And then he woke up, with the rays of the sun casting its beautiful rays into the tavern room he bought for last night. Wryth pulled the covers off of his body and a couple minutes later he left the “Planeswalker '' inn, and Wryth got on his horse Thrindel and he rode off to the next town.

As he rides into the next town he sees the town sign “Pendelroot, the town of choices” an odd name for a town, but that small line of text at the bottom made him think. Wryth thought for a while, throughout the entire day he thought, even while healing injuries and curing sicknesses he thought of choice.

At night when he was laying in bed at the “firebreather inn” he thought of choice and what it means. Istus doesn’t choose for you, choice is something that a person chooses, sure she sees what paths you could go on but she doesn’t know what you decide to do until you do it.

And it is as Wryth’s thinking he starts to fade into sleep, he’s back at the house that he used to live in. The fire crackles and burns around him, Wryth walks into the house. And he sees the body of his lover once again, this is the tenth time he’s had the dream and this is the only time he has been lucid during it.

Lilith speaks again “will you let go this time?”

“No, I will not ever truly let you go Lil, but I suppose I will let go of the rest, the pain, the grudge, the hate.” Wryth answers

“What an interesting choice chosen”

This time Wryth hears the voice over his shoulder, as he turns around a well of ever changing light overtakes him, and he wakes up.

And for the first time in a long time, Wryth truly felt good.
