Chapter Text
Everything felt wrong to Tony after Siberia. He felt wrong taking Captain America’s shield. He felt real shitty for the way he treated part of his team. He tried telling himself that it was what’s for the best, but he knew that it was his selfish ego trying to tell him that it wasn’t his fault. It was.
But… to be fair, the accords was an all or nothing type of deal. Those weren’t fair. He’s signed them for personal reasons and to escape any guilt he’d face. He’d signed them selfishly so that he could have someone to blame if things went wrong.
He knew what he had to do- he had to get the team back together.

After many talking-tos with a bunch of people he would prefer not to see again, he’d done it.
At first, he talked to Fury who was just as upset about the whole Civil War as any of the others were, but he also said that he only had tabs on one Avenger. The man also said that the accords were out of his control and that Tony would have to bring the issue to a very disagreeable Thaddeus Ross.
They had miraculously settled on an agreement with Ross and the other members of the United Nations. It took a lot of restraint on Tony’s end to not cuss out the bastard, but here they were with a revised version of the accords.
There was a catch, however.
“All of you lot have to sign it,” Ross said, “all of you.”
“Sure thing. I can get the team and do that,” Tony said, immediately taking a pen and reaching for the legal documents. He was stopped by Ross.
“Not just names, Stark.” He flipped to a specific page with many lines. “We want to keep all you guys in check and under tabs.”
“So you guys want whole files on us,” Tony said.
“No. Name, alternate name, abilities and powers. All of you- that freaky Sokovian girl, her boyfriend robot thing, that magic doctor, and Spider-Man. Anyone involved with you guys.”
“For the record, I have no memory of a magic doctor being part of us-“
“He’s to sign these documents.”
“What if this person doesn’t wish their identity to be known?”
Ross slammed his hands on the table and glared at Tony. “All of you freaks better sign the revised accords or I’m having all of you be fugitives and to be empounded on sight! Get whatever wholesome team you’ve got, sign the damn accords, and you’ll have your freedom back.
“Don’t all the other countries have to sign as well?”
“They may they may not. We haven’t got there, but if one doesn’t agree, you guys are forbidden to enter without permission.”
“And the US has already signed? The others can stop worrying about getting out in the slammer?” Tony fiddled with his pen. It was secretly a recording pen as well as a powerful laser.
“Nope!”
“Thanks for the help,” Tony said, voice sarcastic.
“Look at you getting your hopes up.”
“These guys… they’re my… they’re my family,” Tony said. But he was also thinking about Peter who was barely finishing freshman year. “Ross, I have been told that I’m a very stubborn person. If I want something, I will not give up until I get what I want.”
“Sounds selfish.”
“Perhaps.” He pointed the laser side at the man. “You and I are going straight to the president and we’re getting the US to sign. I want my family back together. I want them to be safe.”
Ross paused and took a long moment. Finally, he said with fatigue in his voice, “very well.”

The US signed, allowing all the rogue avengers and non-Avengers to come back and be known. Soon all the other nations signed, having liking the part where they could capture the so-called heroes if they wished, lock them up, or kick them out of the country for good if they were dissatisfied by the vigilantism.
So Tony spent a long time tracking down each Avenger and non-Avenger until he sent out a message some way or another.
The first and easiest two were Clint and Cap- the two Cs of the team. (Cunts, he supposed.) Nevermind, he had to put everything behind him. He wanted this to work. He wanted the family to work. His very dysfunctional family.
This is what Nat would want, he knew. This is what Thor would want too, if he were here and in contact with him. And even though Banner was also missing, and despite the man saying how he wanted to be far away where he wouldn’t hurt anyone, this is what he’d want too.
Word got out: The Sokovian Accords were being re-written and would have to be signed again by all the vigilantes out there.
Nat was the first one to show up at the Avengers Compound.
It was a colder day for June and not all the original countries had signed just yet, but she walked in with a tense look.
“You got my message,” Tony greeted the red-haired ex Russian spy.
“You did this,” Natasha said. “Why?”
It took a lot of ego smothering for Tony to say, “I was wrong.”

The others trickled in over the next week. Clint was next, hearing Nat was back. He arrived and told a story of being bored out of his mind because he was on house arrest for the whole thing.
Sam Wilson came along and the first thing that he was asked was if he thought Cap would be back. He said that he was on the run with Bucky ever since they deprogrammed the Winter Soldier.
Wanda and Vision came along eventually and were essentially weary over everyone. Tony apologized but also remained distant.
Then after two weeks on a dark night with no moon, Captain Rogers came to the gates with Bucky Barnes behind him, both looking nervous but set on their goal. They wanted this just as much as any of the others.
“Hey, Cap, what a surprise,” Tony said when he opened the door. His eyes drifted over to Bucky who seemed to want to vanish.
“Tony…” Steve seemed to be at a loss for what to say. “I- um, I’m sorry.”
“It’s alright,” Tony said tensely, stepping aside to let the two in. “Your room is in the same place as it was before and there’s plenty of space for him.” He nodded to Bucky who creased a brow in response.
“Thank you, but we’re perfectly fine sharing a room,” Steve said.
Tony pieced two and two together. “Okay, lovebirds. But I better not hear you at three in the morning.”
“You won’t.”

Mr. Stark had sent a message to Peter when he was at school. It wasn’t a lab day, but Tony said that Peter was urgently needed to come to the Compound after school. It said come as Spider-Man and that Happy could bring him.
Weird, but he made sure to let Aunt May know. As soon as the bell rang, he got into the car Happy was waiting by.
“What’s going on, Happy?” Peter asked, putting on the spandex suit Tony gave him after the whole Vulture mess was sorted with.
“Tony has made the governments change the Sokovian Accords, everyone can come home.”
“Everyone… as in the rogue Avengers?” Peter asked nervously.
“Tony made it happen.” There was pride in Happy’s voice. “There is a catch: all of the Avengers and other vigilantes or heroes have to sign the accords.”
“Oh. That’s great, I guess, I mean, this is awesome. It’s a lot, but I guess this means I’m an Avenger now.”
“You’re still in the category of ‘other vigilantes’ kid,” said Happy.
They drove to Upstate New York where the compound was and where many reporter vans and cars were outside.
Peter quickly put his mask on and swung out the window before Happy had a chance to find a spot to stop.
There were a lot of people. A lot-a lot. Many reporters, many governmental officials and people from around the world.
He spotted the size-changing guy who was wearing civilian clothes. He spotted a guy in a red suit like his and he swung over.
The guy was very similar to him, but he also looked like Natasha with the weapons hanging about. But their eyes on the masked suit were pretty similar.
They stared at each other.
“Hey, I’m Spider-Man,” Peter introduced himself. “I guess I’m part of the hero category and I’m guessing you are too?”
The person sort of slouched and looked uncomfortable. “I suppose. I try to be a hero, but…” he trailed off. “The name’s Deadpool.”
“Cool.”
“You’re actually the first person here who’s masked, I think,” the guy said, shedding some of his discomfort. “They make you sign your name, just a heads up.”
“O-oh!” Peter suddenly felt a little scared. “Excuse me, I need to go find Mr. Stark.” He shot a web at the light post and used it to get height over all the people.
He spotted Tony at the head of all the reporters and other people with the Avengers. He swung down and grabbed him.
“Kid, hey-“
“Mr. Stark, I was just talking to Deadpool and-“
“And they make you sign both names, I know. Those bastards also announced it to several of the reporters. He’s pissed.”
“What am I going to do!?”
“I don’t know kid.”
A voice behind them spoke, “just how old are you, Spider-Man?” It was Ross.”
“That information is disclosed for b- people like you,” Tony said, putting a protective arm around Peter and pushing him behind him as if to shield him from the other man.
“If he is a minor, that complicates things. Minors aren’t allowed to sign legal documents unless necessary. I suppose this is sort of necessary, but then again, who needs Spider-Man?”
Tony looked about to rage but he calmed himself with skills Banner would be jealous of. “Everyone needs Spider-Man!”
“I save lives everyday. Queens needs me!” Peter spoke, but more to himself than to Ross.
“Well, there is also the option of a parent or guardian signing for him-“
Tony cut in. “So you can get the last name of the kid and use that to make his identity public? I heard what you did to Wilson over there-“
“Like Sam Wilson?” Peter asked, confused.
“No, Deadpool guy,” Tony said. He rounded on Ross again, “this has got yo be some governmental plot to expose people who only do good but you guys treat them like trash. And also, the kid’s guardian would have to put his real name down anyway.”
“And I’m not ready to face my classmates,” Peter said. “I’m masked for a reason.”
“Well then, I guess there will be no Spider-Man until you sign the accords.”
“What?!” Peter cried.
“Listen here, you son of a bitch…”
“Tony, don’t lose your temper,” Natasha warned, seeming to come out of nowhere. She rounded on Ross herself. “That’s not fair for heroes to have to come unmasked for your BS accords. As a spy, I know all about the importance of disguises. You’re not being fair.”
“Just be lucky that anyone would take you back, Romanova-“
“Romanoff.”
“You better have signed your legal name on that document!”
“Oh, should I go back an out it in Russian?” There was a sweet and innocent smile on her face as she toyed with his patience.
“Why don’t you go talk to the others?” Tony suggested. “I’m going to see what I can do.”
“Okay… thanks, Mr. Stark…” After a moment, he added, “maybe I should just sign them and get them done with.”
“Only if you’re comfortable with Spider-Man’s legal name out there.”
“Queens needs me.”
“You deserve your privacy.” With that, Tony walked away.
Natasha steered Peter away from the prying press and news stations to join the Avengers, though not even his heroes could make him worry about the situation any less.
