SSA Andrew Minyard

Summary:

"It is very unusual that you were even accepted into the FBI in general.”

Even though Andrew was listening, he didn’t really care for Agent Hotchners little talk. He was well aware of his situation. His place on the Team wasn’t save, he had to prove himself. Had to prove that he wasn’t only a troublemaker and these incidents were just youthful mistakes.

“But you have the top grades of your class, your collage record shows that you are reliable and smart. Sport sponsorship that even got your cousin and twin into college and of course your degree in criminal justice and psychology.”

The older man looked up, directly into his eyes.

“I really want this to work out well for all of us.”
______________
or a Criminal Minds x All for the game crossover where Andrew joyns the BAU

Notes:

Okay so just fyi Andrew completed collage and then went to the Academy. He is 28 in this and it plays a bit after S6. It’s not really important to the plot I just had the urge to make everything fit timewise. If my math is correct this should play in 2011/2012. Reid is five years older than Andrew according to the Wiki, so Andrew is the youngest Agent in this Story.
Writing is not my priority so updates can take a while.
Enjoy!

Chapter 1: Shaking Hands with Strangers

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

To say Andrew was nervous of joining his new team was just wrong. He wasn’t nervous nor was he terrified. The only halfway negative feeling he was having was the prediction that those people. Behavior analysts could somehow read him on one glance. Of course, that’s not what they do or what they are capable of. Still, it was nerve wrecking that maybe one of them might look through his file, even if most of it was sealed after the trial about Drake.

Riding up the elevator Andrew tucked on his tie. Neil suggested that he wants to look like a professional. And even though Andrew didn’t give a flying fuck about what he looks like he compromised by wearing a black dress shirt and black tie over his armbands and elegant looking black pants.

Slowly he stepped out and looked around for his new workplace. He knew that he would meet his boss there, Agent Hotchner. With just a bit of hesitation he opened the glass door that lead to the bullpen where is will be supposedly be working in.

It didn’t take long for a tall broad man to approach him. He reminded Andrew a bit of Matt. The man also had that confidence that his friend had and the same kind eyes with something dark lingering in them. The smile on the others face only made the similarities more prominent.

“You must be Andrew Minyard”, the man said with a warm pleasant voice. For a second Andrew had the urge to just tell a lie and make this really awkward for the other man. He refrained from that and just nodded.

“Great. I’m Derek Morgan.”

The Agent hold out his hand for Andrew to shake. For a second he glanced down at the hand and then looked up again, making Morgan laugh self consciously.

“Not the type to shake hands huh? No problem. Our resident boy genius also doesn’t like it very much”, he paused probably thinking Andrew would say something, maybe explain why he didn’t like shaking hands of total strangers. The silence stretched until Andrew finally took pity on the taller man.

“I am looking for Agent Hotchner.”

His voice seemed to surprise Morgan but he recovered rather quickly. Turning around the other man pointed at an office on the other side of where they were standing. Great. He had to go past his whole new Team then. Blinking he just left Morgan standing there, making his way to Agent Hotchners office.

Knocking on the door Andrew felt a bit silly. He wasn’t the type to suck up to older Agents just because they were older or to people of higher rank. Still, this was his first day and he actually wanted this job. There was really no reason to sabotage himself because of pride. Another rather tall man opened the door and again Andrew couldn’t help but compare the man to his old team. Well… to his coach in  this case. The man in a full suit looked stern and for a second the blonde felt grateful that he was wearing a tie. In this mans eyes also lurked some deep dark secret. It was at least good to know that he wasn’t the only person with baggage. Maybe this team would be similar to the Foxes. He doubted it… but it was a possibility.

“Agent Minyard”, the man spoke surprisingly soft for a man with his authority, “Come on in.”

Andrew stepped into the office, settling on a chair when Agent Hotchner gestured him to. He was opening a file that was probably Andrews. It made him itch knowing that the older man could just read his past like that. It wasn’t like anything bad was written in there. Nothing too personal. The whole Drake thing was sealed and not even the Agent could look it up without permission. And the things that were written was only things like his time in juvie and the circumstances that lead him there. It probably didn’t look too good but they took him anyways, so he didn’t worry about those things.

“I am aware that you applied knowing your way won’t be easy. You have multiple offences that include violence. It is very unusual that you were even accepted into the FBI in general.”

Standing up the Agent hold out his hand for Andrew to shake and smiled lightly.

“I look forward to working with you, Special Agent Minyard.”

Hesitating a second Andrew reached out and shook the mans hand for just a second before letting go hurriedly. His superior didn’t seem to mind. At least Morgan had said the truth. Whoever was considered a genius around here really didn’t like shaking hands, apparently not even with his boss.

“I suppose it would be best for you to settle in and meet the team first.”

Agent Hotchner showed him where his desk would be and ushered him outside to meet the Team. Taking a deep breath Andrew climbed down the stairs and walked to a table where now two people stood. An older man that put Andrew on edge and a young woman with black hair that didn’t really elevate his worries.

“My Name is David Rossi and this is Emily Prentiss”, the old man introduced themselves when Andrew was close enough to hear them. The two didn’t offer a hand which probably was Agent Morgans doing if he had to guess.

“Andrew Minyard”, Andrew said flatly.

He was well aware that people were usually nervous when he talked like that but he really couldn’t bring himself to care.

The two Agents looked at each other for a second, which Andrew took as a sign they were probably going to give up and leave him alone. Purposefully he turned his back on them and started to unpack the cartons that probably some poor soul had to transport all the way to his desk.

Andrew was just taking out a picture of King and Sir when he heard some cooing way too close to him. He spun around looking at the woman in front of him, stepping away a bit more. She had blond hair, almost the same shade as Andrew and some very bright clothes. Even though he wasn’t the person for colorful, he had to admit it suited her. His reaction seemed to get her back to her senses.

“Oh I am so sorry, Agent. Just, your Kittys are so adorable. What are their names?”

If it hadn’t been for his still racing heart and hyperfocus on the woman he probably would’ve noticed the dark look the other Agents gave each other. Right he had to prove that he was worth keeping on the team. That he could work with a team. And that probably included talking to said team, even if it was about Neils and his cats.

“The red one is Sir and the black and white one is King.”

The bright woman looked at him awed and it almost made him uncomfortable how much she loved these names. Well, Nicky picked the names. Maybe it’s just a loud and happy people thing.

“That are amazing names”, she said, “Oh by the way. My name is Penelope Garcia, but you can call me anything you want.”

She winked at him and for a second he thought she was flirting but her giggle told him this was just her way of talking.

“I’m your guy in the chair. Or rather gal in the chair.”

Agent Morgan approached them and laid an arm around Garcias shoulders and leading her away, the other two Agents following them, joining in their banter.

“What is that I spy, baby girl. Are you already cheating on me with the new guy?”

Andrew said nothing as he tuned them out and turned to his desk again. This was going to be harder than he had thought.

Notes:

I have no idea how the FBI works and if they would even accept someone with a history of violent crimes. For this story I decided to make Hotch a bit like Wymack and giving Andrew a chance. I hope this isn’t to OOC. I tried to get Andrews personality at a later time with the knowledge that not everyone will tolerate his behavior. I had really fun writing this, especially the comparisons of the Agents to the Foxes.
The way I see it Andrew never really connected to any other group like the Foxes and does it to comfort himself.
Emily reminds him of Renee, Hotch of Wymack, Morgan of Matt, JJ of Dan, Garcia of Nicky, Rossi of Allison and Reid of Aaron.

Anyway, leave a kudo and a comment if you liked this story. I’d also like to hear suggestions how this could continue.
