Work Text:
It had been a long day for both Ada and Hecate. Hecate was already in the staff room reading a book and waited for Ada. All girls had left yesterday for their holiday and most of the staff had left today. It was just her and Ada now. Hecate was a little worried. She knew the end of term was a difficult period for Ada. Especially now that it had been a few years Agatha has sent herself to Vanishment. The loss of her sister had Ada still in its grip. She looked up at the clock. It was getting late and Ada still wasn’t there. After ten more minutes, Ada finally walked in.
The day had been unbearable for Ada. For nights Ada had had the same nightmares and she barely slept anymore. She still blamed herself for her sister's death, even though Hecate had convinced her it was not her fault. She still wondered that if she had done more she maybe was able to save her sister. Somewhere she also knew it was for the best. Agatha was now in a better place, somewhere pain free, yet it still hurt her.
She walked into the staffroom with a small smile on her face, hiding her pain. Hecate looked up from her book, as soon as footsteps approached. She turned to face Ada and immediately noticed she had gotten back to her overly optimistic attitude. “Ada?” She asked softly, knowing how fake the smile was on the other woman’s face.
“Hecate, Good evening, shall we have tea?” Ada asked, keeping up her smile. Hecate walked over to her and took her hands in hers. She looked deep in Ada’s eyes and Ada looked back. “It’s okay to hurt…” Hecate whispered softly.
Slowly Ada’s smile faded, when a sudden wave of emotions overfell her. Emotions she had been holding back for so long. Feeling she had suppressed for ages. Suddenly all of it came back to her and she tensed. Her breaths became uneven and a little shaky. Tears welled up in her eyes.
Hecate looked at her. She gently pulled Ada into a hug. Ada sobbed quietly and buried herself in her embrace. Hecate rubbed her back gently. She let Ada cry and held her. She gently rocked her back and forth in her arms. It took a while before Ada started to calm down a little. Hecate kept holding her, but had noticed Ada moved along as she rocked her back and forth in her arms and it gave Hecate an idea.
Slowly she started to guide Ada. She guided her in a round around the staffroom and Ada recognized the steps Hecate took as dance steps. She held her head against Hecate’s chest but followed her slowly into the dance. After a bit, gentle music filled the empty room and Hecate noticed Ada’s mouth corners slowly crull up to a smile, even though the tears still shone in her eyes.
Hecate held her and they danced through the night. She watched how the longer they danced the more relaxed Ada became. The terror, fear and pain that had been hidden for days in the ocean blue eyes she could get lost in forever had faded and now an expression of pure joy, love and that spark of true optimism had returned. Hope filled Ada’s heart.
Hecate smiled and they danced on for a while. As the sun started to rise, they finally got tired. The music slowed and Hecate pulled Ada into a kiss. She closed her eyes and so did Ada, still enjoying the moment they shared together. After a very long and passionate kiss, Hecate withdrew to breath and looked at Ada who was once again shining. She smiled and they watched the sun rise. Hecate pulled her into a side hug and Ada laid her head against her shoulder and smiled a bit. Hecate laid her head against Ada’s and smiled as well. She kissed her head and felt the last bit of tension fade out of Ada. She smiled. “Are you okay?” She asked softly.
“Maybe I am, maybe I am not, but I will be. Thank you my love.” She smiled gently and leaned closer into the embrace. “I love you”
“I love you too,” Hecate whispered back. She kissed her head once more and they stood there for a while. They watched the sun rise and enjoyed the first sunshine falling on their faces. They knew everything would be alright in the end. As long as they had each other everything would be fine.
The end!
