Chapter Text
“There, that should be it.” That was the last flourish for the somatic portion of the spell. Thump , the tired summoner collapsed on the boneless couch. “Ahh, everything is ready for the portal to open.” Moments later, a crimson red vortex began to open in the center of the summoning circle. The summoner struggled to sit up in an attempt to see the fruits of his labor. He’s spent days reciting the lines and even longer to make sure the hand movements were just like the YouTube video described. His savings account was wiped out from buying all of the required materials. Soon, he'll be able to meet whoever steps through the portal. A friendly rivalry motivated him with this big decision. Since hearing about his friend attempting this, the summoner was determined to summon someone of his own. This will finally get him the respect-
“Oh no! The materials…” The portal finished expanding, he noticed it was at an angle. When the summoner went to sit, the ground shook enough for some of the reagents to be out of place. Should he try to fix it? Can he fix it? “I can’t let all this time and money go to waste!” Standing up, he repositioned the misplaced reagent to see if the portal will straighten out. Before he can get back up, a bright light emanates from the dark red portal. The summoner shields his eyes and backs up, away from the portal in case whoever comes through the portal is less than friendly.
Thud , “Oof, good job, great first impression.” Click , click , the summoner heard the visitor start to stand up. “Do you take your summoning seriously?? I could’ve had a worse injury trying to cross over here if you’re that careless.” Fwip , the portal drew to a close behind the visitor. The colors in the room returned from dark red back to normal and the noise drew the attention of the summoner and the visitor. “Great! Because of your shoddy summon and my distraction, my window to return was forfeit! Now I’m stuck with you.” The visitor sighed, plopped down on the bean bag chair and took inventory of who brought them to this plane of existence.
“A-are you okay? I tried to fix the reagent before you came through, but I guess I wasn’t fast enough.” Looking at the visitor, he couldn’t make out too many features because of the blinds being drawn. “Can I get you anything to eat or drink? Does your race need to eat or drink? ” He had so many questions about the plane they came from, how long the trip normally takes, if the summoning process chooses or if there is a process when the summon occurs who gets to go. His mind was racing while he scrambled through all of the dirty clothes on the ground and bed to get the blinds open on the other side. Ziiiiiip , clack , clack , the summoner pulled the cord for getting more light in the room and he guessed the next noises were from the visitor taking off their high heels. “My name is... I meant, how you can address me is-”
“Let me stop you right there, the portal closed before I could make a decision to leave but I know people nearby and I can leave whenever I’d like. Let’s skip the macho, master, servant crap, put all of our cards on the table to see if this'll work for both of us.” The visitor had the same struggles getting out of the bean bag chair as the summoner, there is no graceful way to get out of that thing. “Let’s start- How about you- Wow! This chair seriously has to go, why do you willingly sit in this thing??” The visitor finally rolled out of the bean bag chair, picked the discarded high heels and magicked a trident in their hand. “My name is Miranda, what’s yours?”
