I've been hyper fixating on HOTD lately and I just love the idea of Rhaenyra having a child who's the result of her one-night-stand with Criston Cole. I wrote a whole thing of head canons about this on my Tumblr account, but I wanted to write out a whole fanfiction about it as well because I love the idea so much.
I imagine that the reader has the stereotypical Targaryen look (minus her skin color), so it would be harder to pin her down as being a bastard. She's also Rhaenyra's oldest child, which would make her the heir to the throne. I just love putting women in positions of power, so she'll be queen eventually!
Something to warn about, the reader will have children. If you're one of those people who hate children passionately don't read or comment because I don't care :)
This will be an AU where Laenor doesn't "die" and he's still married to Rhaenyra. I'm not a big fan of Daemyra so I won't be writing that in ha ha.

Right under here is where I'll be doing little character profiles. You don't have to read them unless you want to, it's mostly for fun for me lol. It's just the characters and dragons + their relationship with the reader. Like I said, mostly for me.

Rhaenyra Velaryon-Targaryen
- While she's heir to the iron throne and princess of Dragonstone, Rhaenyra is also just a mother. The princess, when not tending to her father and going to small council meetings, spends most of her time with her children, namely (Name) and Lucerys. Rhaenyra dotes on them both because they're emotionally sensitive and she just wants to protect her babies.
- Rhaenyra loves her sons more than anything, but she's such a girl mom! (Name) is her firstborn and due to this Rhaenyra is especially attached to her. I really like the idea of Rhaenyra's daughter resembling Aemma personality -wise, and when (Name) is older and develops her own voice, it makes Nyra feel sort of bittersweet. I think that Rhaenyra misses her mother tremendously, even decades after Aemma's death, so it comforts her as well :(
- She doesn't wish to see her daughter married, funnily enough. Rhaenyra knows that her sweet baby will have to marry eventually, but that just makes her so worried! Rhaenyra is sort of pessimistic when it comes to men, so she doesn't want her sweet baby girl to get stuck with some horrible man.
- Rhaenyra wanted to marry Jacaerys and (Name), but this is overturned by her father in favor for Aegon and (Name). This made Rhaenyra incredibly paranoid, and she's a worried mother hen when she has to stay on Dragonstone and leave her daughter in Kings Landing.
- Poor mother :(((
Laenor Velaryon
- THE ULTIMATE GIRL DAD!!!
- He's very much aware that he did not sire (Name), but that is his daughter. Laenor, after (Name) was born, spends most of his time holding her and telling her stories of the sea and his many voyages. He doted on her so much when she was a baby, and even as an adult (Name) has a very close relationship with her father. Laenor was already in support of Rhaenyra being heir, but once their daughter is born, he becomes absolutely loyal. He intends to see his baby on the throne.
- He's such a proud father, too! A few hours after (Name) were born, the egg Rhaenyra placed in her cradle hatched, which signified greatness to both her mother and father. Laenor definitely introduces (Name) to his own dragon, Seasmoke. He absolutely got an earful from his mother and Rhaenyra afterwards, but it was worth it in his eyes. Laenor, I imagine, would want to ride Seasmoke with his daughter but literally everyone would be against it until she was older.
- Laenor and (Name) have such a special and close relationship, which is rare for fathers and daughters in Westeros. He's a good dad, and (Name) ends up naming her first son after him.
- When she was little, Laenor would braid her hair in traditional Valyrian styles just like he would do with Laena. This was something he did when he'd start to miss his sister.
(Name) Velaryon-Targaryen
- She is the oldest child of Laenor and Rhaenyra, and heir to the throne after her mother. I imagine that she would be sort of... awkward. Her childhood was very sheltered due to her mother keeping her so close, and (Name) really doesn't go off on her own until after the incident when Aemond lost his eye and her family left for Dragonstone. In that time, she has freedom for the first time, but doesn't really utilize it. I'll go further in depth with this in future chapters, but she's kind of lost without her father to guide her, and she ends up spending most of her time with her grandfather and dragon.
- Riding Nightdreamer, her dragon, is something (Name) does quite a lot, so much so that Nightdreamer is rarely seem within the Dragonpit. She rode before her family left, learning alongside Aegon and Sunfyre, but she's depressed after being separated from her father, so she tends to stay alone for months. (Name) ends up leaning on Ser Criston Cole as a fatherly figure, but she isn't aware that he's her biological father. No one in court is allowed to talk about it.
- Basically, after Lucerys slashed Aemond's eye out, (Name) and Aegon were betrothed in the heat of the moment, and Alicent ordered that the young girl be kept at Kings Landing as the Queens ward. Viserys agreed to calm his wife, and this is why (Name) is separated from her parents and younger brothers. However, due to her years by Alicent's side, (Name) is quite close with her.
- In the series, (Name) will have three children. Laenor, Viserys, and Eadith. She only has three children due to Aegon not wanting to risk her life. Their marriage is the only thing keeping peace between Green and Black. Aegon is also just kind of a simp for his wife lmao. Speaking of the kids, Viserys inherited his grandmothers red hair, which (Name) loves. You see the way Rhaenyra doted on Luke? That's (Name) with Viserys. That's her baby.
- She loves her kids <3
- Side note, she usually wears dark blue dresses, her dragon is this color.
Jacaerys Velaryon
- He's the most supportive of his mothers and sisters claim to the throne. Jace thinks that his beloved sister will make a fine queen, and he will fight anyone who challenges her claim. This won't come until later in the book, but Jace ends up as (Name)'s hand once she's queen.
- He's fiercely protective of his family, and often gets into squabbles over those who think twice about his mother or sister being heir. He's Rhaenyra's mini-me, and he has her temper. I will never get over how Young! Rhaenyra and Jacaerys are the same exact person, he's just more dutiful lmao.
- When it comes to (Name)'s children, he's the best uncle! He definitely cried the first time he met Laenor, I have no doubt.
- He's not the biggest fan of Aegon tbh. He's fully aware that his sister is fine, and she has more control over Aegon than he does over her, but that doesn't mean he likes Aegon at all.
- He likes Aemond even less lmao.
Lucerys Velaryon
- Out of all her brothers, (Name) is the closest with Lucerys. Jace and (Name) are very close in age, she's only about a year older than him, so she didn't really lean into the title of older sister until Luke was born. When he was a baby, she would watch over him constantly, something Rhaenyra absolutely approved of.
- Since we see that Luke took part in Aemond's bullying, his sister would absolutely scold him about his actions. She's basically just telling her younger brothers to leave Aemond alone, and that they're family.
- Lucerys is very dependent on his older sister. He cried for hours and hours after his sister was sent to live in Kings Landing while they moved to Dragonstone.
- He was absolutely inconsolable for months; he just missed his big sister.
Aegon II Targaryen
- He is (Name)'s husband, ironically enough.
- The marriage between Aegon and (Name) was something put in place after the Driftmark incident, in the heat of the moment, and once they were both old enough, they were tied to each other. Aegon, Helaena, and (Name) are all similar in age, (Name) being only a little younger than Helaena. In all reality, it wasn't a bad match, and Aegon isn't that bad of a husband.
- He's just extremely pathetic.
- (Name) and Aegon used to fly their dragons together. Sunfyre and Nightdreamer have crushes on each other probably, he's the only other dragon that she tolerates. Aegon has a very strong bond with his dragon, and due to Sunfyre being so in touch with Aegon's emotions, he makes squeaky noises whenever (Name) comes around on Nightdreamer.
- This comes later, but Aegon is a girl dad. Eadith is his pride and joy, he loves his little girl so much.
- Simp.
Nightdreamer
- A midnight blue dragon with silver scales and a high-pitched roar.
- Nightdreamer's egg was placed in (Name)'s cradle and hatched soon after the princess was born. The she-dragon is really just a giant cat. She's grumpy, only likes one human, and sleeps all of the time. Nightdreamer, when she isn't flying, is sleeping in the pit while Sunfyre tries to annoy her.
- Her bond with (Name) is much like Rhaenyra and Syrax's, as in their inseparable. Her first year away from her family (Name) was extremely depressed, and Nightdreamer caught onto this quickly. She'd attack the keepers and other dragons until her young rider was brought to her finally. Nightdreamer is a very sweet dragon... when it comes to (Name).
- Aegon and (Name) mastered their dragons alongside each other, so Nightdreamer is quite tolerant of Sunfyre. That's not to say she's affectionate with him, because she absolutely is not, but he's tolerable.
- She's okay with Caraxes (when he's around).
- She gets into yelling matches with Vhagar.
- Nightdreamer is such a sleepy girl! She doesn't have much energy unless her rider is within the vicinity, so don't expect her to do much of anything.
- Lazy girl <3
Laenor II Targaryen
- The oldest of (Name) and Aegon's children. He's her heir and very close with her. Laenor is this confident kid with a passion for justice, which makes him a good king once he ascends the throne.
- He keeps his hair long, to keep with Targaryen traditions. However, growing up he didn't really know how to take care of it so his mother would do his hair most days. Even after she's queen, (Name) takes time to do his hair. He learns how to do it himself, but she does it anyway because it's how they bond.
- Loves his family a lot and is especially close with his uncle Jacaerys.
Viserys II Targaryen
- The younger son of (Name) and Aegon. He has red hair like Alicent but looks exactly like his mother. He has her face structure and eyes, and their personalities are very similar. Viserys is a huge momma boy and is attached to (Name)'s hip for most of his life.
- He's much like his mother. He's awkward, doesn't talk to other kids, and is probably neurodivergent.
- He's very dependent on his mother, but in the emotional way. He has a hard time developing his emotions properly and (Name) is always there to help him.
- He's close with his little sister, Eadith.
- He gets doted on by his mother a lot, and he loves it lmao.
Eadith Targaryen
- She's the last child Aegon and (Name) had. This is because Aegon didn't want any more lol. However, he's a girl dad and adores her. I think Eadith would take her looks from Aegon, too.
- There's a bit of an age gap between her and Laenor, so they don't interact that much, not to say they don't like each other, she's just closer with Viserys.
- She's like weirdly religious. Eadith is very devoted to her faith, she spends a lot of time with her grandmother Alicent, so they bond over the Seven's scripture.
- She's especially close with her father and develops his carefree nature. She just abstained from anything sinful.
- She's got this fluffy white hair (think Laena) that her parents absolutely love!
