Chapter Text
If you have any triggers - especially relating to trauma and mental health - please read the following message. If not, you can skip to the next chapter. (Though feel free to read it even if you don’t have significant triggers, as I think it will contribute to your enjoyment of the fic regardless.
Vague Notions is set almost entirely in a residential mental health facility. It contains frequent references to a wide variety of triggering subjects, including mental illness, trauma, substance use, suicide, and death. My goal with this disclaimer is to minimize harm to potential readers as much as possible.
1. Hard limits.
If you have hard limits against consuming content that contains depictions of mental illness, trauma, suicide, SA, sexuality, or self-harm, this fic may not be for you, as these subjects are mentioned frequently in multiple chapters.
2. Trigger warnings.
I will be putting a specific, detailed list of trigger warnings at the end of every chapter, not the beginning. (With a few exceptions near the end.) Please be sure to check the end notes if you are trying to avoid a particular subject or situation. Also, please let me know if there is a specific trigger you would like to be added so you can enjoy the fic, and I will be sure to go through and add it as soon as I can.
3. Note about the author
I have direct personal experience with nearly every subject I have written about in this work. This includes severe mental illness, homelessness, institutionalization, and virtually all the rest. I wanted to avoid speaking from a place of ignorance as much as possible in this fic - so, while certain subjects may be handled clumsily or less optimally than they could’ve been, please know that they are a direct reflection of my experience, if no one else’s.
That said, I welcome feedback if my handling of a particular issue is causing harm in some way, as that is never my intention (even if my humor can lean a bit morbid at times). I have no desire to add to the marginalization of already-sensitive groups if I can avoid it.
4. Other
I recognize massive slow burn fics aren’t for everyone. Especially not ones about such a heavy topic. But guys…it gets really cute. Angsty and stressful at times, yes - but I love these characters, and I made sure they got the chance to love each other too. So if you can get through all that exposition I think your gay little hearts will be really grateful 🥺 (And so will I. Please validate me.)
. . .
That’s it! Enjoy my 8-month long scream into the void. It is an act of pure love on my part and if even one person gets some level of enjoyment out of it, it will have been worth it for me :)
(Won’t be reading comments for a while because I need time to reset my brain after how intensely I pounded this out near the end. But thank you so much for what I’ve seen so far. I WILL be responding soon.)
