"Human" Tasks

Summary:

What does it take to be human?
What tasks must one complete?
Why do somethings take so much energy?

Author is not normal and has decided to make B-52's life hell by projecting his life experiences onto him.

Notes:

I legit brushed my teeth for the first time in a week so I wouldn't feel.guilt writing about B-52 taking care of himself while currently being unstable.

Based off of MY life experience. Some things may not apply to everyone.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

B-52 is not someone who was used to taking care of himself.

He would always finish his tasks without much struggle, and could keep up with work, but this meant few people noticed how hard things were for him. He had to do these tasks or else the restaurant would fall apart. He would get in trouble. People would hate him.

No one really looked closer at how the standards he performed at affected his life. Sure, he could wash the dishes fine. It would get done with high work quality. But he would hate everything about doing it. The dirt he had to touch, the water creeping up his sleeves, the absolutely disgusting sponge. Not to mention how loud everyone was while he had to do the tasks. By the time he had finished with all his restaurant tasks, he was too tired to do anything else.

Ignoring his restaurant tasks, he was pretty bad at managing himself. He frequently went days without drinking  anything and just focusing on missions. He had horrid eating habits of not eating anything for a few days and then binging. It got so bad Napoleon threatened to force water down his throat after he collapsed during exploration. Self care was abandoned too. Brushing teeth felt like a thousand tiny needles were piercing his gums, Showering was so loud, everything was just so much.

As such, B-52 was a little baffled when he was told to take care of himself very strictly by Brownie. Not in the 'Do this or I'll smight you' way, or the 'I know better than you and I'm superior' way, or even the 'You pathetic creature take care of yourself way'. It was firm, but gentle. B-52 still pushed back.

"I'm not human. I don't need to do this stuff. I can just focus on managing the restaurant, I don't really need to- Ah!" Brownie dragged B-52 out of the room.

"It's important for you to do this stuff so you can stay healthy." Brownie explained.

How could he understand just how hard it was for B-52 to do these "Simple tasks" It wasn't like he didn't want to, he just...

B-52 froze. Still, staying still, no response. No one could reach him. He needed to get out of here.  He tried to run away, he couldn't be here. He didn't want to be here. Someone was holding him. He needed to get away.

"It's going to be fine." B-52 heard a calm voice say. "I won't let go unless you stay here."

B-52 took a deep breath and stopped struggling.

"What's wrong?" Brownie asked.

"These tasks are supposed to be 'easy' and 'basic' but I can't... I can't..." B-52 stopped talking. No one cared. He would always be a freak.

"It's okay. These things might take people a little more effort than most. That's okay. What matters is that they get done."

B-52 wasn't sure if he could get everything done. But even half "Was amazing" according to Brownie. Could he get everything done? No. Would he try? He would attempt while keeping his needs in mind.

"Oh, and by the way," Brownie said. "If something bothers you, or you're having  trouble, tell me, or Napoleon, or Master attendant, or anyone else. You will get help."

B-52 nodded.
