“Imogen, am I your girlfriend?” Laudna blurted out without thinking.
Imogen choked on the water she was drinking before bed and Laudna saw her grip tighten on the glass.
“I mean,” Imogen began, “Do you want to be?”
“I don’t know,” Laudna exhaled in frustration and sat on their bed for the night, crossing her arms in front of her chest in a protective way.
Imogen walked across the room and sat next to her, Laudna felt the bed shift but didn’t meet the other woman’s gaze. “Hey,” Imogen whispered, “What’s wrong?”
She reached out to touch Laudna’s forearm, untangling them from the front of the cold body of Laudna. Her hand felt soft and warm against the warlock’s skin and she sighed, trying to gather her thoughts since she didn’t have Imogen inside of her head anymore to help her make sense of it.
“I’m afraid I don’t know how to be anyone’s girlfriend dear,” Laudna admitted sadly. She really didn’t. She had never imagined this to be a possibility for her and, even though she’d read a fair decent amount of romance books, she was sure real life was different… It had to be, right?
Imogen squeezed her hand and the movement grounded her somehow. Imogen’s hands held magical powers over Laudna, even more so than the sorceress’ actual arcane abilities.
“Sweetie,” Imogen called out softly, “I don’t know how to be anyone’s girlfriend either.”
The confession made Laudna finally stop staring at their linked hands to find Imogen’s lavender eyes, “Seriously?” she asked in surprise.
“Yeah...” Imogen confirmed with a smile, moving her hand to touch Laudna’s face delicately, “But I’d very much like to learn with you.”
Laudna’s heart swelled with that, her cheeks turned slightly purple. Imogen really was the sweetest, most beautiful person she’d ever met. Smiling back, she moved her hand on top of Imogen’s that rested on her face. It was truly incredible how the other woman always managed to calm Laudna’s spiraling mind.
“Well,” she said, “If there’s anyone I want to learn this with, it’s you, love.”
Imogen’s smile after that was bright and beautiful, her freckled cheeks reddening when she looked into Laudna’s eyes, “It’s settled then, we’ll learn together.”
They moved into each other at the same time, lips meeting lips in a kiss that was also a promise. Laudna moved back for a moment, “What do we do now?” she asked into Imogen’s smiling mouth.
“I don’t know…” Laudna saw Imogen’s hand leave her cheek and start undoing the buttons of her new dress, “Maybe you can help me take this off,” her grin was sheepish but confident at the same time and Laudna’s mouth got dry as she watched goosebumps arise on the other woman’s chest.
“I can do that,” Laudna gasped, “Yeah, I can totally do that.”
They learned each other’s bodies and Laudna couldn’t get enough of Imogen’s reactions to her touch. It wasn’t the first time they did this, but each time they got better and better at making each other breathless (yes, Laudna too).
Imogen held Laudna close, their bodies intertwined and their minds in a blissful peace.
“I think I want to be your girlfriend forever,” Laudna breathed out.
She heard Imogen giggle behind her, her naked chest moving against Laudna’s back.
“I do too, sugar” Imogen kissed Laudna’s back softly, “Forever, and ever and always.”
