Work Text:
Lately, it was easy to get comfortable.
Sukuna was more than just overly familiar with his fuck buddy. At this point, calling Satoru a fuck buddy was an understatement because it didn’t fully describe their involvement with each other. They spent more time together than people realized. Hell, they spent more time together than they themselves had realized. Time always moved so quickly when they were spending the night at each other’s places and fucking each other’s brains out.
There was something about the days that seemed brighter. Something about the air that seemed more fresh. Life was worth living. That was a lot to say for a college junior who spent his weekends getting high and his weeknights on the football field or cramming for an exam. Sukuna would say that life truly became more clear after the past couple months.
And…he couldn’t figure out why that was.
Sukuna hadn’t noticed he was smiling more. He was more pleasant around people, had a sparkle in his eyes that he never had before…his younger brother was the first to notice. Yuuji thought Sukuna started smoking the really heavy stuff but that wasn’t it at all. Even when Sukuna was sober, he had this full look in his eyes as he day dreamed about whatever was going on.
He was happy, not that he was depressed before. He was focused, not that he was distracted before. He was…alive.
Now that the semester was over, he had more free time to do what he wanted – which was not studying until four in the morning for an exam he didn’t care about. Instead he could get high, have fun, and fuck. It would be the perfect break.
Sukuna wasted no time at all to get his fuck buddy over to his apartment. His little brother was gone for the evening so that meant he and Satoru had the place to themselves for a little while.
One hour easily turned to two. Time didn’t slow down just because Sukuna was enjoying a hand job.
He liked kisses, too.
Tonight, Satoru’s lips tasted of caramel. He didn’t know what candy Satoru had been eating during the day but getting a taste of it from his lips was nice. Usually put off by the intensely sweet taste of all the things Satoru put in his mouth, the caramel was something Sukuna went back for more of over and over again. He licked and sucked on Satoru’s lips as if he was eating the caramel itself. And when Satoru moaned into his mouth, there was a small flutter of his heart. Like a shock, a bolt of electricity that stung his chest but felt good at the same time. He did everything he could just to hear Satoru’s voice. There was nothing that could be sweeter than the quiet whimpers against his lips. Sukuna would eat that up, too.
They were laying in Sukuna’s bed while fooling around. Surprisingly, their clothes were still on but they were more focused on getting their hands in each other’s pants than just getting them off. It was much faster to jerk each other off to get that relief they’ve been craving for the entire day.
Sukuna was first to reach his peak. Lately, getting off felt more amazing than he could imagine, and maybe it has to do with Satoru. Probably from the way Satoru's fingers wrapped around his cock, how his thumb would press into the tip at just the right time, or how he'd squeeze his hand as Sukuna got closer. Sukuna thought those fingers could work miracles, and to him it was true. Just one touch from Satoru and he was immediately begging for it. Finally getting the chance to cum was the moment he had been waiting for.
That bliss was like no other. When he breathed in deep, Satoru's scent filled his lungs. All the same expensive cologne that Sukuna mentioned once that it was decent – it was more than decent, especially when Sukuna had his face buried in Satoru's neck. His voice was muffled by the hot kiss he planted on Satoru's skin. His own heart fluttered and a rush of heat sank to his groin as he came.
It was the perfect distraction.
Then there was the hand in his hair, the slender fingers that rubbed him gently while coaxing his orgasm further. Satoru was so good at that, getting Sukuna to succumb to his fingers. And Sukuna knew that was true. He had less control over his body when Satoru touched him, though he didn't mind that powerless feeling so much now.
The hand on his cock finally slowed and Sukuna stopped trying to rub up against Satoru's side. His shallow and heavy breaths continued, even as his body settled into the buzzing warmth. Then there was Satoru's warmth, all encompassing and intense. It was a familiar feeling, something Sukuna was always used to and invited around him.
His eyes fluttered open once he got a hold of his thoughts again.
It was Satoru's turn and Sukuna planned to make it just as intense.
His attention immediately switched to getting Satoru off – touching him and kissing his skin until he was squirming and screaming out. He kissed along Satoru’s neck as he let his hand move on his cock again like before. Just a few strokes and Satoru was trying to thrust into his hand as if he was fucking it. And Sukuna let him. That was the best part about getting Satoru off, he always got so into it and enthusiastic – latched on to Sukuna’s arm, moaned loudly to let anyone and everyone know he was feeling good. It fed into Sukuna’s ego, he was beginning to smile because Satoru made such pretty noises just from a handjob.
The hand in Sukuna’s hair yanked his head upward and brought him closer for a kiss. There was that taste of caramel again. Sukuna couldn’t help but let his tongue trace Satoru’s bottom lip. The eagerness of Sukuna’s kisses kept Satoru lucid enough to enjoy the affection and attention, but it was the hand that continued pumping his cock that made him tense.
Sukuna truly loved the way he could get Satoru to fall apart.
The satisfaction gave him a high that nothing else could. Satoru’s voice was so sweet, his trembling was cute, the way his lips would stop moving and he’d take a shaky breath got Sukuna excited. Oh, he loved how Satoru seemed to fall apart under his hand.
What made it better was coaxing Satoru through it – getting him so close just to tell him that he can make it over the edge, that he’s doing good and can handle a little more. Sukuna loved that kind of power he had over Satoru. He could look into his eyes all night while getting him off. Satoru nodded eagerly as Sukuna told him to cum for him.
Both their hands were squeezing more on each other.
Sukuna had this thought of kissing Satoru until they couldn’t breathe.
It wasn’t the first time that he was consumed by all the lust and attraction. It certainly wasn’t the first time that he got into how hot and horny he was in the moment. There was something about Satoru that always kept him interested, Sukuna could never find what that was but the sex was good all the time. Hell, being the one to give a hand job was hot, too.
It actually made him smile when Satoru came. He felt the heat that pulsed in his palm, the throbbing continued as cum spilled over his fingers. Satoru’s hips rolled with Sukuna’s slowing movements until there was nothing left for him to give; Sukuna had it all on his hand and he definitely didn’t mind that. He just continued to kiss Satoru, taking his breath away and swallowing those low moans that came from his lips.
There were times they would kiss the night away. Satoru would get so comfortable with having his arms around Sukuna that he’d never move. Lucky for him, Sukuna didn’t feel the need to move either. Kissing was their favorite pastime, at least it seemed that way by how they didn’t separate from each other even when the post nut clarity hit.
Well, not at first.
But after a minute, Satoru was the first to pull away with a startled expression on his face.
“Shit! I forgot about the movie.” He sighed and clicked his teeth. Then, for a quick second, he contemplated getting out of bed. “Mm…I gotta go.” He sat up abruptly and wiped his hand on Sukuna’s sweatpants.
Sukuna wasn’t fast enough to slap his hand away.
“Actually!” Satoru had a wide smile that spread on his face, “You should come, too-”
“Not interested in whatever lame ass movie you’re going to see.”
“It’s funny.”
Sukuna's expression fell flat, he wasn’t that impressed. He never was when Satoru gave him movie recommendations. “Your humor and my humor are two different kinds of humor. I’m sure whoever you’re going with likes the same shit you do.”
“Well, yeah, Suguru and I like a lot of the same things…” Satoru thought to himself.
There was something that didn’t click right in Sukuna’s mind. He wasn’t sure what it was, but there was something he didn’t like about what Satoru just said. Was it hearing that Satoru was going to a movie with Suguru?
No…Sukuna couldn’t be bothered by that…it didn’t matter who Satoru saw and who he was with. It wasn’t like they were together either.
Apparently, Sukuna stopped listening because he barely tuned in to what was coming out of Satoru’s mouth.
“...Shoko, and Kento are coming, too, but it was really Kento I had to convince to come with us. He likes the boring shit just like you do. You two would get along.”
Sukuna had turned away while Satoru was talking. He pretended to be preoccupied with getting the cum off his hand, but instead he was trapped in his mind about some unsettling feeling about Satoru going out tonight.
He shouldn’t care.
He never did before.
“I’m not watching any movie that you’re excited to see. Your taste is fucking terrible.” Sukuna said.
“Yeah, sure,” Satoru snorted a laugh as he got out of bed. “I have horrible taste,” he mocked sarcastically, “alright, Sukuna, whatever you say.” Satoru picked up his bag off the bedroom floor and grabbed his jacket.
“I’d say have fun, but…”
“Don’t worry, I know you mean it.” Again, Satoru flashed a wide smile at Sukuna as he put on his dark shaded glasses. Then he was out the door.
Just like a dream: gone so fast only to leave a lingering piece of himself behind.
Sukuna’s jaw was clenched tight. It had been a while since he caught himself grinding his teeth, but it was certainly happening right now. Clearly, he was irritated. More than clearly actually. Sukuna quite literally was aggravated. And being alone in his silent room without anything to distract his mind made it so much worse.
He had to talk himself out of the anger that was slowly brewing in his stomach.
We’re just friends with benefits, Sukuna reminded himself immediately once he realized what ruined his mood. I get nothing out of this, Sukuna also reminded himself there was nothing to obtain from a casual relationship. Even after months of entertaining their lust, there was nothing to gain.
There was no reason to be jealous over something that wasn’t his in the first place. Plus, he was sure he didn’t have any feelings for Satoru anyway.
Sukuna had always been particular about how he handled stress. Working out was one way to release all that steam. When that wasn't enough, he found himself cooking and eating more than normal; often he'd make so much food that not even Yuuji could keep up with everything that was in the fridge. And the most important stress relief of all: sex. He had so much pent up aggression that sex almost always was a way for him to get rid of it.
However, for the past few days, Sukuna mostly found himself at the gym or stress eating.
He saw Satoru and Suguru together more than once these past few days, and every time it left him with a sour taste in his mouth. Though, that couldn't have been where his stress was coming from…Sukuna reminded himself he had no right to be upset.
If Satoru wanted to get back together with Suguru, that was his business.
Yet, coming to that thought over and over again made Sukuna shove more chips in his mouth while he stared at his living room wall.
"Yo…" Yuuji walked by the couch. "That's your third bag today." He hadn't seen Sukuna eat that much in a while. "I thought you passed your classes this semester."
"It's nothing…" Sukuna chewed like he was ready to fight the last bag of chips in his hand.
He hadn’t moved all day because he was stress eating and wallowing in self pity. He just didn’t like being called out for it. Yuuji did look concerned, but he figured Sukuna was back to being in one of his moods like usual. The happiness was great while it lasted…
"Right," Yuuji didn't believe him. "Anyway, we're going out to that one bar you like tonight, wanna come?-"
"No."
"You sure? It's half off drinks after ten. And Satoru said he could get Suguru to give us free drinks-"
Sukuna whipped around quickly once he heard Yuuji mention Satoru's name. There was this appalled look in his eyes that instantly gave away what was making him so stressed. "Satoru's going?" He asked abruptly and that made Yuuji hesitate a bit.
"Yeah…" Yuuji's eyes shifted nervously to the side. "I mean, you don't have to come if that's gonna bother you."
The worst part about it was that it was going to bother him. Sukuna already had that rising pit in his stomach that gave him an unsettling feeling. It wasn't complete anger…it wasn't complete sadness either. He was stuck in the middle. Hopeless. He turned back around on the couch and grabbed more chips from the bag. It was almost empty.
"No. Go do your stupid shit on your own." Sukuna wouldn't be able to handle his anger if he went to the bar tonight.
He knew better. Something in his mind warned him that he wouldn't take seeing Satoru and Suguru together all that well…if that was truly the problem that was upsetting him. He reminded himself: he can't be jealous of something he never had. So, of course Satoru having fun couldn't make him angry.
Knowing that Satoru and Suguru were going to be at the bar together, possibly getting drunk and having a grand time together, shouldn't get on his nerves. Sukuna stopped his thoughts right there. He shoved a handful of chips in his mouth and grumpily focused on the TV while Yuuji tried to convince him to come outside tonight.
Sukuna wasn't in the headspace for it. He just wanted to stay in the apartment, get high, and finish all the food he made in the fridge.
“Come over.”
Sukuna was used to hearing those two words through his phone.
Lately, the only person that ever said those words to him was Satoru. He usually liked hearing them, too.
Tonight, he was a little on edge…a little grumpy and uncooperative. He pouted and rolled his eyes as Satoru talked. And he wanted to say yes because he'd love nothing more than to go over to Satoru's apartment to ravage him, but there was something in his heart that told him to slow down.
He wasn’t just getting excited for sex anymore, he was getting excited to be with Satoru. He knew that much and he had to hold himself back from it getting more serious. If he didn’t, who knew what kind of problems it could start.
“No…” Sukuna said once again without giving an explanation.
“You’re so boring,” Satoru complained through the phone. “There’s literally nothing else to do, what could you possibly be doing that you don’t want to fuck right now?”
Nothing. That was always the answer. “I got other shit to work on.” Sukuna lied.
“Seriously?”
“I thought you were doing something today.” Sukuna had to get the pressure off himself.
“Well, the mall is closed…Suguru and I already went to that candy store and got a ton of sweets – and we also got that new video game that came out, too – actually, now that I think about it, I had some errands to run but it’s not like I can do them now since it’s late-”
“Satoru,” Sukuna cut in.
It was already hard to hear him talk about Suguru…but hearing him talk about Suguru not in the context of their breakup really did stress Sukuna out. He almost flinched at the sound of his name, like a slap to his heart, and it was painful. Not that he thought he was there to pick up the pieces after the mess happened, Sukuna had seen bits and glimpses of what Satoru’s sadness could do to him – and he was the person there to cheer Satoru up.
The only explanation for being so bothered was because Sukuna more than just liked Satoru, but there would never be a day where he'd let that come out of his mouth.
So, until then, he was choosing to suffer in silence and stop Satoru from mentioning that name in conversation to hopefully numb the pain of what he already knew: there was a possibility of Satoru getting back together with Suguru.
It was more heartbreaking than anger inducing.
Sukuna was barely paying attention, but it was the angelic ringing of laughter that got him to tune into the voice on his phone.
“Right, right,” Satoru laughed, “anyway, it’s gonna rain and I’m bored. Let me finger you.”
“I don’t think so.” He answered without hesitation.
“Ugh,” Satoru groaned obnoxiously, his voice drawn out to clearly showcase his irritation. “Fine, since you won’t let me finger you, I guess I can offer my ass on a silver platter or whatever will make you take your dick out.”
Sukuna rolled his eyes again, but this time it was different. He was trying to hide his smile despite being the only one in his room. Maybe he was trying to hide it from himself. He didn’t want anything to give away that maybe he just wanted to see Satoru to watch him run his mouth about what he did today.
“Yeah, sure, I’ll agree to that.” Sukuna played it off casually, but on the inside he was beginning to warm up. “Also, you come over since you’re the one that wants it so bad.”
“Not only are you boring, you’re lazy, too. Typical of a jock, isn’t it?”
“I’ll show you lazy.”
“Yeah, I bet you’ll show me something. I’ll be there in ten.”
That meant Sukuna had ten minutes to settle the annoying feelings that continued to bother him day in and day out. Butterflies and a bit of irritation. It was embarrassing, both because sometimes Satoru got him to blush and he was upset that Satoru may have gone back to the love of his life…once again, as Sukuna had been doing, he reminded himself that he was only with Satoru to fuck around and nothing more.
They had a good time with sex and that was about it.
There was nothing else for him to gain from moping around that he might lose his fuck buddy. If anything, he could just find another one. That was the whole purpose of fuck buddies.
Yet, he couldn't quite talk himself into believing that.
He was at a crossroads and it bothered him.
Would saying something actually bring him peace? Or would Satoru just laugh at him for catching feelings? The burning pit in Sukuna's stomach only got more intense because he had no control over what the outcome would be. He just couldn't decide if it was worth it to say something about how he felt…especially since he stood firm on the fact that he was only with Satoru to play around.
We're just friends with benefits, that was all it was and he had to remind himself of that over and over again.
Ten minutes on the dot, Sukuna was opening his front door with expectation that Satoru was going to be there. It wasn't a surprise to see Satoru standing there with a playful smile on his lips. It wasn't a surprise to see the excitement in Satoru's eyes. It should've been reassuring because Satoru was choosing to get fucked by him. Sukuna held a plain expression on his face but on the inside he felt like he was being swallowed whole by his emotions. The uncertainty was killing him.
He could swiftly ruin the mood by asking Satoru if there was a possibility of being more than friends. He wondered if Satoru had feelings for him, too.
Luckily, he didn't get the chance to ask his questions and ruin what was already a perfect relationship. Satoru made the first move, eagerly wrapping his arms around Sukuna's neck and bringing him closer for a kiss.
Something so normal made Sukuna's heart pound roughly in his chest. It almost choked him from making it hard to breathe.
There was nothing he wanted more than Satoru. There was no one he thought about more than Satoru. And his heart almost broke to the idea of just having to let him go. Sukuna didn't want to. His territorial nature wouldn't let him.
He was convinced that Satoru was his and he was determined to prove it.
Within seconds they were yanking off their clothes and stumbling to Sukuna's room just so they could get on his bed. Satoru was always eager but what made things interesting was how quickly Sukuna became so possessive over him. Satoru thought it was a game and he smiled while Sukuna handled him roughly. But Sukuna was taking this more seriously than he ever had before.
To have his hands on Satoru's body was the realest experience he got. Every time, he felt as if another part of him was awakened to something new.
He held on to Satoru just a bit tighter, just a bit harder, just a bit longer to make him think that he was enough.
He wished he had another pair of hands, two was never enough. It was either hold Satoru’s waist, his neck, or his thighs, maybe his hand…Sukuna was pent up, frustrated, on edge, everything he had been for the past few days and finally he found his way to get release.
Before he knew it, he had Satoru in his grasp with the need to mark his territory.
Possessive and selfish by nature, Sukuna let that side of himself show without restrictions.
He had his arms around Satoru as if he wasn’t going to let him go. His fingers dug deep into Satoru’s skin as if he was trying to get a piece of his soul. He could feel the soft trembles against his body and Satoru had to get support from the wall to keep himself steady, but Sukuna’s presence was overwhelming – all consuming and drowning. His thrusts were unrelenting and rough while his hands continued to grip tight on Satoru’s body. As always, hearing the angelic moans was a dream for Sukuna, and he hoped that tonight he wouldn’t wake up.
He breathed in Satoru’s scent as he always did, pressed kisses on his cheek and jaw, squeezed his fingers on Satoru’s neck just as he leaned back. The moans continued and Sukuna kept all his focus on everything Satoru did. He had to watch and listen. His body knew every part of Satoru, but that didn’t change the intense look in his eyes or the need to hold him close.
Mine. Sukuna wouldn’t let him go. Mine, mine, mine! He screamed in his head even louder than the moans he heard in his ear. He fucked Satoru with all that possessiveness he had.
“Sukuna!-”
That was what he was waiting for – hearing Satoru’s begging and screaming while getting fucked from behind, those sweet whimpers and moans between ragged breathing and cursing. His own heart fluttered from the sounds Satoru made, but what Sukuna truly loved the most was the way Satoru called out for him.
Mine.
He wanted Satoru to be his.
He sure fucked him like they were together.
With another deep breath and a heavy kiss on Satoru's cheek, Sukuna released his hold on Satoru's neck. His hips were still rough, and he kept himself deep inside Satoru's hole to the point that he could feel the sweet flutters. Despite Satoru's trembling, Sukuna didn't show him that much mercy, not when he could show all the affection and lust he wanted. His hand slid down the side of Satoru's body, addicted to the warmth and sweat on his skin, and he gripped tight to keep Satoru's hips in place.
A startled moan left Satoru's lips as Sukuna kissed his cheek again.
"I'm close! Ah- don't stop!"
Both hands held Satoru's waist and fucked him harder just to get them both over the edge. Already breathless and hot, Sukuna could feel the burning of his muscles, the tension in his chest, the fluttering of his heart while Satoru continued to moan and cry out from pleasure; it was as if his body was screaming, not from the fatigue of giving his all to Satoru, but from the intense infatuation that came with hearing Satoru call out his name again. The movements hid Sukuna's own shaking. He was trembling, too. Sex was always good, but this was different. This was intense.
Even when Satoru leaned against the wall, the rhythmic creaking of the bed didn't stop. Sukuna wanted to kiss everywhere on his body – leave hickies on the nape of his neck, press his lips along the curve of Satoru's spine, taste the sweat on his skin.
Sukuna definitely had his moment – delusional but also eye opening, he hadn't orgasmed that hard in his entire life. Neither had Satoru, especially with the way his voice cracked and gave out. If only he knew how quick Sukuna blacked out from his desperation and infatuation. Sukuna quite literally thought he saw heaven after feeling his soul levitate just from sex. That was a first, and Sukuna wanted another taste of it.
His lungs burned with each breath. Finally, his fingers let go of Satoru's waist when he came down from his incredible high. His mind was still swimming with lust, the warmth buzzing through his body and still settling to his dick – the part of him that almost took control, besides his heart. All he had to do was thrust again and he'd start the next round of intense fucking.
He wanted to.
Even in the dark, he saw the shadow of Satoru's body and the glow of his pale skin. The nape of his neck was exposed with the way his head was tilted down. Sukuna could just lean forward to plant a kiss on his skin. He wanted to. He wanted to so badly. Satoru was breathing hard and clearly distracted by his own high, maybe he wouldn't notice Sukuna hugging him close and leaving kisses on his body. Or maybe Sukuna could grab Satoru by his hair gently and pull him back to kiss his lips just to give him the air he so desperately needed…
Sukuna was convinced that he was in his own little world and needed something violent to get him out of it – whatever these feelings were, they really had a chokehold on him. He hated it, too, because now his head was filled with only Satoru to the point that it was suffocating him.
Abruptly he moved away, putting distance between them for the sake of his own sanity.
He fell over in bed and no second later did Satoru fall beside him, still breathing heavily just as he was. In fact, Sukuna couldn't see the confusion and shock all over Satoru's face.
There was also lust and infatuation there, too. But that wasn't a surprised since Satoru always looked like that after getting his brains fucked out.
"Holy shit," he gasped deeply. "Did I piss you off or something?" He turned his head to ask.
Sukuna's brows furrowed and he thought for a second why Satoru would ask that. Nothing came to mind. "Why?"
"Cause you don't fuck me like that unless I get on your nerves."
Oh.
"You get on my nerves everyday." Sukuna replied plainly.
"Not enough for you to do that." Satoru began to smile as he looked at Sukuna in the dark.
There was a faint glow to both their eyes as they looked at each other. Satoru wasn't one to take things seriously, he thought everything was all in good fun. But Sukuna couldn't help the fullness in his gaze. He was serious, as serious as he could be about someone he wasn't dating. It was the perfect moment to say something, to make his feelings known and find out where Satoru was at, to truly be vulnerable…he just didn't let it get that far. Instead, he screamed in his head so loud that it drowned out the painful silence that made his heart ache.
It wouldn't be a good idea to say something, Sukuna convinced himself of that. What they had, if they had anything at all, wasn't supposed to turn into something serious.
Sukuna definitely knew better.
Satoru began to smile at him. "I guess you're not lazy, huh-"
"Only you thought that." Sukuna said.
"I've got no problem coming over if you're gonna treat me like that." Satoru said as he got out of bed to stretch. If the lights were on, Sukuna would be able to see all the hickies and marks he put on Satoru's skin. "Well, that was fun, but that's the only compliment I'm giving you." He picked up the clothes that were on the floor.
"I need four hands to count how many times you screamed my name-"
"You're counting?" Satoru snorted a laugh. "Heh, sounds like you're obsessed, Sukuna. If you want to hear my voice that badly you can just ask me-"
"You're never getting over your delusions, are you?"
"Not until you get over yours."
Every bone in Sukuna's body screamed to yank Satoru back in bed so they could continue as if they hadn't stopped to catch their breaths. He was fighting his urges so hard when all he had to do was push Satoru onto bed again. It was better if he didn't act obsessed, right? It wouldn't be sexy to be attached…Sukuna had to be aloof and cool, as he was before when all this started…he watched Satoru get dressed and he just wanted to peel those clothes off his body again.
Why did Satoru look good in his hoodie? Sukuna peered in the darkness and caught the silhouette of Satoru's body at the edge of the bed. Satoru pulled up his pants to cover his long legs, the same legs Sukuna was gripping not too long ago…the pants were low at his waist, the same waist Sukuna wanted to wrap his arms around…would it be "simp" behavior to turn on the lights? Sukuna was so thankful Satoru couldn't see the faint blush on his cheeks. The teasing would be relentless.
"Can you stop taking my shit?" Sukuna said instead to cover up how flustered he was becoming. A quarter of his closet was gone because Satoru liked to take his things…that had to mean something, right?
Sukuna thought it did…
"Stop me." Satoru laughed wildly and left the bedroom in a hurry just in case Sukuna went after him. Did he want to be chased?
Sukuna got out of bed and picked up some more clothes on the floor to put on. Like an affection starved dog, Sukuna followed blindly as if Satoru was his loving owner. But that was nothing new, Sukuna ended up following wherever Satoru went even if it was just for fun.
"Ah, shit." Satoru said when he opened the front door. "It's raining." He pouted.
The downpour wasn't that heavy, but Satoru didn't like the idea of running in the rain to get back to his apartment. Sukuna considered just telling Satoru to stay until the rain stopped, but there was a chance Satoru would stay the night…not like that would be a bad thing. Sukuna stood behind Satoru and looked over his shoulder out the door to watch the rain. It wasn't too bad.
"The brat took my car for a road trip but I got an umbrella." Sukuna suggested.
"How do you not have two cars?" Satoru sighed.
"Not everyone can be rich and pretentious. Some of us have to work hard in life, you know."
"Yeah, I guess." Satoru snickered as Sukuna grabbed the umbrella in the corner next to the shoes. "Must suck to not have everything handed to you, huh? You'd be much happier if you had money and power." He brought his finger up to poke Sukuna's cheek.
Sukuna slapped his hand away and pushed him outside. "Anyone would be happier with that." He followed and closed the door. Then he opened the black umbrella above them both. "Come on," he said and nudged Satoru forward so they could go.
They walked together in the rain. The umbrella was a moderate size cover for them both. Mostly. Sukuna held it over Satoru more so he wouldn't have to hear any complaining about him getting wet. He sacrificed an inch of himself in the rain just to keep Satoru happy – though, Satoru was oblivious to the fact that Sukuna was getting a little wet. He just rambled on about the shenanigans he did during the day and why he had to go home instead of staying around longer to play naked in Sukuna's bed.
Sukuna listened quietly, his mind still heavy on his own emotions.
But as usual, Satoru's voice seemed to calm him down. More so just when Satoru went on a tangent about random things Sukuna didn't care about. Satoru could talk his ear off but that was one thing Sukuna didn't mind.
"What's with the silence?" Satoru bumped his shoulder gently. "You haven't grumbled curses in the past five minutes."
"I got my nut, so I'm in a good mood."
Satoru laughed, “Of course you are! Sex and food will keep you happy. Typical, ain't it?-"
"Sex and sugar usually puts you to sleep." Sukuna nudged his shoulder back and was tempted to close the umbrella to make Satoru whine a bit.
"I guess we're the same, aren't we?" Satoru continued to laugh.
"I guess so."
"I haven't had that much sugar today now that I think about it. Suguru wouldn't let me eat the milk bread we bought until I got home – he thought I would just go back to the store and spend more money…"
There was that name again, brought up so casually that it almost killed Sukuna.
"I didn't know you two were hanging out again." Sukuna cut into Satoru's rambling abruptly, his jealousy not very subtle. He couldn't use curiosity to hide his disdain.
"Yeah, we made peace with what happened…well, I made peace with it, I guess. It sucked losing my best friend, so I'm glad we worked everything out…"
That was a big deal, at least to Sukuna it was a big deal. Satoru "made peace" with the public break up that happened months ago. The fight was intense and everyone knew about it…Sukuna thought Satoru would barely recover from it.
It was a good thing he did, right?...Sukuna was at another crossroads again, and he hated it.
He wanted to be happy that Satoru didn't have a reason to be gloomy some days. He wouldn't have to see Satoru get sad from something that reminded him of his "soulmate". It had to be a good thing.
Sukuna didn't say anything.
He walked in silence as Satoru continued to talk about the improvement, how everything seemed better now that he didn't have all these confusing emotions inside him. Satoru said that, for once, he felt good.
So Sukuna just believed that this entire time, Satoru was miserable. Even with him.
We're only friends with benefits. Sukuna reminded himself once more but he hated it more than anything.
"Anyway," Satoru stopped once they were in front of his building. "Next time, you're coming over."
"So I can take all of my clothes back." Sukuna said.
"Yeah, whatever you say, Sukuna." Satoru rolled his eyes and took off running towards the front door of his apartment building.
Sukuna waited.
His sadness lingered.
It felt like he was letting Satoru walk away for good.
It was for the best that he let Satoru go; it wasn't like they had something special in the first place. So there was no use in getting worked up over something that wasn't meant to be serious.
Sukuna sighed to himself. Hopefully his heart aches will settle within a day or two. Catching feelings was never fun.
He was about to turn away but he saw Satoru running back towards him. Sukuna waited, though he was confused by what Satoru wanted from him. Did this idiot forget his keys? Sukuna just rolled his eyes as Satoru approached him at full speed.
Then, without even another second to take a breath, Sukuna was bombarded by all of Satoru. Arms around his neck, warmth along his face, and soft kisses on his lips. Between each heavy breath, Satoru pressed his mouth on Sukuna's eagerly.
And Sukuna could only stand there and let himself be kissed.
This was new. Well, kissing wasn't new, but Satoru coming back just to kiss him was.
It was surreal.
Sukuna felt as if he was up in the clouds. There were never sparks when they kissed, only this overwhelming sense of floating up towards the moon. Sukuna was left in a daze and for the first time he didn't do anything to get himself out of it.
He just wanted to enjoy the ride even if it was for the last time.
Satoru got comfortable with his arms around Sukuna's neck. He leaned more into Sukuna's body until there was no space between them. Sukuna let his free arm wrap around Satoru's waist and if there was any room to pull him closer, he did. His other hand held the umbrella to shield them from the rain. He was tempted to let go just so he could hold Satoru's face.
They shared a kiss under the rain.
Both of them wanted to be inside, at least then they'd be able to take their clothes off.
However, this was more tranquil than anything they've experienced so they kept it this way. A few kisses in the rain wouldn't hurt. It did make Sukuna's heart flutter though. It buzzed in his chest, almost as if it was trying to fly away from him. It was a different feeling, he’d call it…exhilarating.
Slowly, Satoru pulled away with a smile curving onto his lips. Those pretty blue eyes were the first thing Sukuna saw when he opened his. He could stare into those deep waves for eternity. Satoru moved his arms from Sukuna's shoulders, but his smile lingered, captivating Sukuna and making him oblivious to everything that was going on around them.
It was a rough slap on his ass that got Sukuna to focus again.
"You fucked me good tonight, tiger. Nice work!" Satoru said and took off running before Sukuna could hit him back.
For days, Sukuna was subjected to the view of Satoru and Suguru together. It was hard to go to the mall or even the park without seeing the two of them all happy with their friend group. Constantly, Sukuna had this burning pit in his stomach that made him grit his teeth and clench his fist. It got to the point that he would rather stay inside than ever step foot in public ever again.
Why did it feel like he was watching someone he really liked slip away? It shouldn't matter that much, at least Sukuna thought it shouldn't matter. Was he addicted to the way Satoru sucked his dick?...that didn't seem like a reasonable enough answer for the anxiety that began to pop up in Sukuna's soul.
Most days, he’d stare at his phone and wonder when a special someone was going to text him. It felt like it was happening less and less…maybe because there was someone else occupying Satoru’s time…Sukuna tried to get that thought out of his head – because it shouldn’t matter – but it continued to stress him out despite the reassurance that what he had with Satoru shouldn’t be anything more than casual. He looked at his phone and waited for a text notification. Hour after hour, it was just him waiting and watching.
He should get over it, well that was what he thought.
He could find someone else to pass the time with, after all he was just doing the same thing with Satoru.
"Man…” Yuuji had forced Sukuna out of the apartment, more so for selfish reasons, but he was the one to get Sukuna to go outside after days of watching him lay around on the couch and sigh. “What the fuck is going on with you?” Yuuji finally asked his question when it looked like Sukuna wasn’t going to hit him.
Sukuna didn’t want to come to the mall. He had no reason to be here and he hated having to babysit his brother and his friends. He could’ve stayed grumpy in the car but Yuuji wouldn’t even let him get away with that. So, now Sukuna had to walk around the mall with a horrible, brooding expression on his face.
He shoved his hands into his pants pocket and glared ahead while Yuuji continued to stare at him.
"Nothing..." He grumbled to himself.
"I didn't know ‘nothing’ was code for ‘depression’.” Yuuji air quoted, and his friends snickered behind him.
Sukuna couldn’t roll his eyes any harder at the comment. Plus, hearing Nobara burst into full blown laughter didn’t help to settle his annoyance. Sukuna was aggravated, already moody, and was in a fragile space because he did not want to be at the mall. He could be at home to wallow in his emotions.
“Trust me, if I was depressed, you’d know about it.” Sukuna huffed out, but the laughter behind him continued.
"Winter depression is a thing." Megumi said.
Sukuna looked back over his shoulder. "I'm not fucking depressed!" He snapped at the two of them, but that just made Nobara laugh harder. “There’s nothing wrong! I don’t know why you all think I’m depressed-”
“You’ve been on the couch for the past three days…and I’ve never seen you drink a cherry coke…ever, so that must be a bad sign. Plus you’re eating like you just got your heart broken."
"Right," Nobara agreed, "No one is more 'my body is a temple' than you."
"You wouldn't bring weed or alcohol to a temple." Megumi mentioned casually while looking at his phone. He glanced up once and caught Sukuna’s unrelenting glare. He didn’t show that much fear, instead he just shrugged and Sukuna faced forward again as he continued walking. "I'm just saying." Megumi mumbled, however Sukuna heard him and gave him the finger.
"I’d be much happier if I wasn’t stuck here with you.”
Sukuna hated having to tag along with the three of them anywhere. Though, Yuuji came back with the car a little roughed up so now Sukuna was hesitant to let Yuuji go anywhere on his own…it was the price to pay to keep the car intact. But Sukuna truly was stuck inside the mall with them; the rain had persisted for days and it was going strong now outside. The weather was bad enough that Sukuna had no choice but to go inside the mall instead of just waiting in the car.
“None of us asked you to come with.” Nobara said.
That was about to start the next argument between them but Yuuji had to physically place himself between Nobara and Sukuna so nothing would happen. “Alright, let’s not test him,” Yuuji said to Nobara. She agreed, reluctantly, and kept walking with Megumi.
Sukuna, moderately annoyed by Yuuji’s friends, was about to turn around so he could wander around the mall by himself.
"Anyway, I need the car tomorrow, we're going to-"
Sukuna whipped around to glare at Yuuji. “You’re joking-”
“We’re literally on break, and we wanted to go to this concert this weekend so I need the car-”
Sukuna gave up immediately. His tolerance for Yuuji’s complaining was incredibly low today and just wanted to not deal with anyone talking to him. “Fine! Whatever! Do whatever the fuck you want!”
“Cool!” Yuuji said and took off without giving Sukuna a chance to change his mind.
Right now, Sukuna wasn't in the mood to argue. Ruining Yuuji's day didn't give him the same satisfaction.
He looked around, sighed quietly to himself, and walked in the other direction. This would've been the perfect time to go outside and get high…however, the rain forced him inside. If anything, he wanted to lay on his couch and watch TV all by his lonesome. At least then, no one would see how sad he was…
Sukuna grumbled to himself that he wasn't sad. That nothing was wrong. That he was in a bad mood because it had been raining for days on end. Besides that, everything was perfectly fine.
He sat down on one of the benches in front of the fountain. Above was a glass skylight, though dark because of the rain. He heard the rumble of the weather, the sound getting much worse by the hour. He just leaned his head back and continued to watch through the skylight.
The vision of a few nights ago flashed into his head. He could picture Satoru running towards him in the rain with such a bright smile on his face, enough to part the clouds and radiate like the sun. No one ever looked at him the way Satoru did that night. And to feel Satoru’s arms wrap around his neck and pull him into a kiss, Sukuna’s heart fluttered just from remembering it. He wouldn't admit it but he was truly happy that night.
"Ugh…" he groaned to himself.
He hated that he caught feelings.
There was nothing more embarrassing than being the one infatuated and obsessed in a friends-with-benefits relationship.
Beside him, someone fluidly slid into the open space on the bench. The quiet and devious chuckling made Sukuna turn his head towards the familiar sound. Then he caught the intoxicating scent of the cologne he liked so much.
He looked over at Satoru, his expression bored but his eyes had a light in them that wasn't there for days.
"Here to ruin your day." Satoru beamed brightly.
In one hand was a blue popsicle, just opened not too long ago. If there was one thing about Satoru, it was that he loved his sweets. He would never pass up the chance to put something tasty in his mouth. Sukuna eyed the popsicle first, then went back to looking at Satoru's face. He couldn't get a read on his eyes because of shaded glasses, but the smile was definitely a clue.
Satoru could never ruin Sukuna's day, but he sure as hell planned to be a nuisance.
"Try it." Sukuna said.
"It's cold outside, you should really put clothes on instead of trying to show off to people who don't want you." Satoru poked Sukuna's bare arm, right in the center of the circle tattoo on his shoulder.
Sukuna had his jacket wrapped around his waist because it got hot walking around the mall. Underneath was a sleeveless turtleneck and that exposed his muscular arms and tattoos. He wasn't as hot now that he could feel the cool air but he wasn't going to go outside without putting his jacket back on. Satoru poked his arm again, but when he didn’t get the reaction he wanted, he squeezed Sukuna’s bicep.
That was when Sukuna smacked his hand away. "You're literally eating a popsicle."
"Yeah," Satoru smiled wider and stuck his tongue out at him before putting the tip of the popsicle in his mouth. "I'm not gonna deny myself a treat because it's cold outside."
"And you're wearing my sweater." Sukuna added.
"Oh?" Satoru looked down at the black sweater he was wearing with a black scarf over it. "That's weird, why would your clothes be at my place?-"
Satoru was being sarcastic but Sukuna was quick to cut off his comment with an irritated groan. “You’re always taking my shit, that’s fucking why.” Part of him couldn’t stand it, but he found himself looking at Satoru more when he was wearing his clothes.
Satoru mashed his lips together but could barely hide back his smile. "You've got a short fuse today, huh?" He poked Sukuna’s cheek next and pulled back fast before Sukuna could smack his hand again. “What’s got a stick up your ass?”
“Everyone keeps saying I’m pissy, but I’m not.”
“Well, you’re making that ugly face that you do.” Again, Satoru invaded Sukuna’s personal space to place his finger between Sukuna’s furrowed brows. “You’re gonna get old early.”
There was something about letting Satoru run his mouth that made Sukuna a bit irritated. He couldn’t help the way that he snapped back at him. “And if I smack that popsicle out of your hand?”
“Don’t do that, I’ll actually be sad.” Satoru pulled his hand away and continued to smile.
Sukuna bit the inside of his lip as his gaze began to soften again. Satoru always tried to play innocent but if anyone knew how mischievous Satoru was, it was Sukuna.
Was Satoru annoying? Sukuna would say yes in a heartbeat. However, that could never ruin his day.
“What are you doing later?” Satoru asked.
“Depends on what you’re doing.”
“Oh, yeah? I’m not doing anything tonight if you’re not.”
They stared at each other for a second longer than they normally would, especially now that they were putting the possibility of a fun night on the table. If they wanted to, they could go at it right here, but it would be better to keep this private.
“Tell you what,” Satoru got comfortable on the bench – rested his arm on the back of the bench, spread his legs a little more, let his guard down so Sukuna would do the same, “I’m gonna see a movie with Suguru in a bit. After that, you can come over.” It was a good offer, at least the way Satoru said it made it sound that way. And the icing on the cake was the way he put his popsicle in his mouth, slow and sensual while letting his tongue lick around the tip of it, that let Sukuna know tonight would be a very good night to hook up.
However, that didn’t stop the way his chest tightened at the sound of Suguru’s name from Satoru’s mouth. This time it fucking hurt. He almost couldn’t breathe from the instant force that hit him.
Satoru was going to spend some time with Suguru.
Sukuna clenched his jaw as his fingers twitched slightly. Sometimes he was prone to anger and he really did try to control it. He had no claim to Satoru, nothing that warranted the jealousy that burned deeply in his stomach…there was no reason for a sudden wave of sadness or sensation of being left out, forgotten about, or discarded. Just a toy, that was what Sukuna should’ve been, right? He knew better. He knew so much better.
But that didn’t stop the way his heart ached despite seeing the smile on Satoru’s face.
“You want me over?” Sukuna asked.
It wasn’t just curiosity that made him ask. It was nice to be wanted. He wanted to hear it out of Satoru’s mouth…some reassurance may heal him.
“Sure,” Satoru shrugged, “I won’t pass up a chance to fuck each other’s brains out.”
Just for sex, huh? Sukuna rolled his eyes. It wasn’t the answer he was looking for, but it was better than nothing. He shrugged and looked away while Satoru laughed at the sour expression he made.
“I’ll pull that stick outta your ass tonight and replace it with something better.” Satoru continued to laugh as he got up. “Oh!” He remembered something.
With one hand, he began to remove his black scarf from around his neck. Then he leaned closer to wrap it around Sukuna’s neck; Satoru did it as quickly as he could because Sukuna reacted immediately to having something placed on him. By the time Satoru stepped away, the scarf was already wrapped twice around Sukuna’s neck.
So, with a grumpy expression on his face, Sukuna sat there with his arms crossed and a horrible glare in his eyes.
“You shouldn’t go out in public looking like this, Sukuna, you’re more than just an object to sexualize.” Satoru snickered at his playful comment. Sukuna couldn’t frown any harder. “Don’t want you catching a cold.” He laughed loudly as he walked away.
His voice could be heard as he got further away. The obnoxious “ha!” four stores down made Sukuna grind his teeth again.
It was the smell of Satoru’s cologne on the scarf that seemed to calm him down just a bit that he could breathe easier. His irritation washed away even more every time he filled his lungs with the scented air. Light and citrusy with a base of spice and sandalwood. Sukuna lowered his head slightly so more of his face could feel the thick fabric brush against his skin. With another breath, he closed his eyes and let the kinder thoughts take over.
His expression softened.
Again his heart fluttered while he took deep breaths in and out.
Before he knew it, he was dozing off.
Only ten minutes passed by the time he was being poked awake by multiple different hands. He startled awake, looking around, only to find two annoying sophomores staring at him and one standing off in the distance while staring at his phone. There were no dreams, but it felt like he was almost there; just a minute longer and he may have experienced a very peaceful dream.
Some kind of delusion that he didn't want to wake up from…
"See? That's depression. People don't just fall asleep at the mall-"
"Nobara, if you don't shut up, we're going to fight." Sukuna warned her.
"You're an abomination to society if you think you can hit a girl."
"Where's the girl?"
"Okay!" Yuuji stepped in between them immediately just as Sukuna stood up. "We need the car this weekend so quit it." He hissed at Nobara. Then he spun around with a bright, happy smile while looking at his older brother. "You can come with-"
"No." Sukuna answered flatly before Yuuji could finish.
"Well, if you want to have a boring weekend then that's up to you." Yuuji shrugged and pushed Nobara forward so she wouldn't say anything else provoking.
The two of them walked together and Sukuna followed behind. He was brooding, but not too terribly. Megumi walked beside him, still quietly paying more attention to his phone than the conversation Nobara and Yuuji were having.
"Where'd you get the scarf?"
Sukuna heard the question. For a few seconds, he remained quiet as he debated telling the truth. It didn't really matter that he got the scarf from Satoru…would it be a good idea to say something about it?
As they were walking, Sukuna caught a glimpse of what hair from the corner of his eye. He turned to look and part of him wished he hadn't. Satoru and Suguru were heading towards the theaters together, laughing wildly at their jokes and smiling as if they were having a good time. Just the two of them…Again, Sukuna dealt with the uncomfortable sensation flooding his entire body. Whether it was jealousy or sadness, he couldn't tell.
It could've been a bit of hopelessness, too.
He looked away. "Don't worry about it." He finally answered Megumi's question and chose to leave it at that.
The constant back and forth between "does he want me" and "I shouldn't want him" was driving Sukuna insane.
It was getting to the point that he couldn't sleep at night because of his worrying and anxiety about his own feelings for Satoru. He had to know: was Satoru getting back together with Suguru or not, because the stress was killing him. Satoru might as well just rip the band-aid off instead of letting Sukuna wallow in his own jealousy and sadness…then again, Sukuna knew it was a lot to expect Satoru to be considerate of him.
Being friends with benefits meant that there were no emotions involved. They were just friends. With benefits. That was it.
And yet, Sukuna finally admitted to himself that he caught feelings for Satoru and he may have been in love for months now.
There was nothing more annoying than being put in this situation.
All this started out as a game. After both of them being in a terrible mood, they just hooked up for the fun of it and kept doing it because it felt good. Now, for Sukuna, sex wasn't just sex anymore. It was completely different, elevated to a whole new level where it was suffocating him to think that Satoru could be happy with someone else. Someone that wasn't him. Being with Satoru, even while they weren’t fooling around, made him feel like all was right in the world. It didn’t matter what they were doing, as long as they were together then Sukuna felt like he was whole. That was not what he signed up for. That was not what he thought would happen.
Not once did he ever believe he would have feelings for Satoru Gojo.
Not once did he think he would get stressed out by the fact that Satoru might end up dating someone else.
Sukuna took time to calculate what would be the best way to address the problem. Letting it play out and trying to adapt to the situation was doing more harm than good. He had to tell Satoru what he was feeling and ask what was going on between them…if there was something going on in the first place.
One phone call about plans for the weekend turned into Sukuna blowing a fuse because Satoru was excited to do something fun with his "best friend". Sukuna truly did have enough. So, he demanded that Satoru meet at the diner because they "needed to talk".
That was never a good sign and Satoru couldn't laugh his way out of this one. Sukuna couldn't avoid it either.
It was the middle of the night when Sukuna walked towards the diner. There were no cars in the parking lot, no one was inside either. The bright lights were the only thing that indicated that the place was open. Usually there were only two people that ever went to the diner at this time of night. However, Sukuna didn’t have plans to just go inside to “chat”.
By the end of this, their spot may turn into a reminder of what they could’ve had. Sukuna already prepared for the worst.
It was beginning to rain. Sukuna held his umbrella open to shield himself from the weather. Even with the humid air, it was cold, sharp enough to pierce Sukuna's shaking heart. Oh, he was so nervous but he wasn't the type to back down. He took things head on and wouldn’t go down no matter how hard the hit. His free hand clenched when he saw Satoru standing and waiting outside the front door of the diner. His heart fluttered, flipped, did everything except beat regularly, all because Sukuna knew what he was about to do.
They only stared at each other in silence by the time Sukuna met up with him. Sukuna couldn’t bring himself to say anything. The entire walk over, he had an idea of what he wanted to say. But now, he could barely open his mouth to speak.
His hand gripped the handle of his umbrella tightly, his knuckles just about turning white from the tension of his grip. His jaw was clench, he was grinding his teeth, his soul burned with jealousy and he did his best to not let it show on his face. It did.
Satoru didn't say anything either.
Sukuna couldn't see his eyes behind the black glasses. Satoru just stood there, chewing his gum, and waited for Sukuna to explain what was going on.
"I can't do this anymore." Sukuna finally said.
Satoru remained quiet, still chewing his gum without saying a word in response to what Sukuna said. No change in expression, not even an eyebrow raise at the sudden ending of their casual relationship. It appeared like it hurt Sukuna more to say those words than for Satoru to hear it. The truth was that it did hurt for Sukuna to say it. However, it was the truth. He couldn’t take the constant anxiety and jealousy anymore. He hated the idea of wanting to claim someone that wasn’t his to claim.
"I want to be happy that you got your shit together with Suguru again,” Sukuna said, though the words burned his tongue, “but… it actually pisses me off." He told Satoru the truth.
No response from Satoru.
Nothing was provoking him.
Just another smack of his gum as Sukuna continued with what was bothering him. If he wasn’t going to say anything, then Sukuna would say everything.
"I know we're just friends with benefits so I'm way out of line by saying anything about how I 'feel'. And believe me, I'd rather die than say shit about this. We just can't keep doing whatever 'this' is if you're getting back together with Suguru."
Silence.
Satoru stopped chewing his gum. His expression was plain and hard to read, which irritated Sukuna more.
"Are you?" Sukuna asked him when he didn't get a response.
"What?" Satoru asked.
"Getting back together with Suguru?" Sukuna came out with it and it almost made him sick to his stomach. He felt like it was the equivalent of getting down on his knees and begging.
He hated it but not knowing would be eternal suffering.
Not ending things so Satoru could truly be happy would be Sukuna's suffering.
Satoru chewed his gum again, stopped, then blew a bubble without even the slightest change in his expression. It popped and he went back to chewing it. No response. Satoru said absolutely nothing, but in Sukuna’s mind that was all the answer he needed.
What he feared most was the unrelenting teasing and jokes about him catching feelings despite knowing this was nothing more than a casual relationship.
Then suddenly, Satoru began to smile.
The shit eating grin made Sukuna’s irritation rise even further. Satoru pushed his glasses up into his hair, and that shit eating grin just became more playful by the way he looked at Sukuna.
"You're jealous." Satoru sounded pleased.
Sukuna was taken aback by the comment. "What?"
"I didn't know you liked me like that." Satoru laughed.
There was something missing, Sukuna was sure of it. This was supposed to be a serious conversation but Satoru was joking with him…did Sukuna not make himself clear? Or was it that Satoru just didn’t care? Whatever it was, Sukuna’s face was getting hot from the embarrassment and anger. "This shit isn't funny."
"It's not, but it is cute." Satoru chewed his gum again, almost obnoxiously to irritate Sukuna even more. "You're a 'say what you mean' kind of guy, so I've been waiting for you to come out with it." He teased.
Sukuna had no idea what was happening.
"Suguru and I patched things up, but we're not getting back together.” Satoru explained. “We talked about it and figured that it would hurt worse if we tried to go back to the way things were. Plus, I told him I've been seeing someone else for a while."
"'Seeing someone else'?” Sukuna narrowed his eyes when he repeated the words that didn’t sound right to him. “I don't know if we've been 'seeing' each other, Satoru."
"Pretty arrogant to assume I'm talking about you, don't you think?"
Sukuna's face burned even hotter from the continued embarrassment. "Shut up!" He snapped in a flustered panic.
Satoru already knew everything. By the smile on his face, Sukuna believed that Satoru knew a lot more than he thought. Hell, even the way he laughed gave away that Satoru didn’t take it as seriously as Sukuna was. Sukuna was stunned.
"You can't be surprised, Sukuna. You wake up in my bed and make me breakfast with the groceries I pay for. I practically made you a housewife-"
"So you just let me run my mouth for the fun of it."
"Yep." Satoru blew another bubble with his gum. When it popped, he smiled widely again and went back to chewing it. "Keep in mind I stuck around because I like you, too.”
"You couldn't say anything?"
"I take your clothes, I eat your food, I suck your dick-"
"All things that can be done without emotional attachment."
"Well, I do it with emotional attachment." Satoru shrugged. "I just wanted to see how long it would take you to get the picture. Took you a while, heh,"
"You're so fucking annoying."
"But you like it." Satoru grinned triumphantly. "Come on, I'll let you fold me like a pretzel to make you feel better."
"Yeah, sure, whatever." Sukuna grumbled to himself.
He wanted to smile but he tried to fight it, as he usually did, so he didn’t give Satoru the satisfaction of actually making him happy. His heart fluttered once Satoru came close enough to hold his arm; he may have looked angry, but he liked the affection Satoru showed him. Sometimes.
It was a relief to not have this gloomy cloud hanging over his head. It was even better knowing that Satoru liked him, too.
Sukuna really had to fight hard to hold back his smile.
Satoru noticed the effort that Sukuna was putting in and he actually enjoyed the struggle. Between the two of them, Satoru was the one to smile effortlessly. And Sukuna was the one to stare at him, lost in his own thoughts about how Satoru could be so radiant. His own lips twitched, and by then, he gave in.
The rain started to come down harder.
For a second, Sukuna was distracted by the bright blue eyes that stared back at him. Before he knew it, his umbrella was swiped from his own hand and he was left without any protection from the rain. The moment felt like infinity, even as he turned and saw Satoru running with his umbrella into the street.
Sukuna finally snapped out of his trance and ran after Satoru in the rain. He could hear Satoru’s laughter while chasing him. That was when he broke out into a full smile, too.
He caught up to Satoru and easily got his arms around him.
By then, Satoru gave up on running away. He laughed over the sound of the rain as Sukuna held him close.
There was no use getting under the umbrella now, they were already drenched by the rain. However, that wasn't what they focused on. Sukuna felt that familiar tightness in his chest as he looked at Satoru, but it was a good feeling, something that made him smile just a bit. Satoru smiled, too; he let the umbrella fall to the ground and wrapped his arms around Sukuna's neck.
They shared a kiss in the rain in front of their spot.
It just felt like they could spend an eternity there.
