Work Text:
Raiden:
- Humble family man, farmer country boy who appreciates all the little things on earth—like literally. He’s the type of guy to acknowledge how everything from the smallest ant to the biggest mountain plays a role on the earth.
- Has a good relationship with his family and misses them easily. He writes to them frequently from Wu Shi academy.
- Although this man is humble and hardworking he has a very dark inner voice, very hard on himself.
- Burns himself out pretty easily if he doesn't rest.
- Loves animals, would rescue strays around the village as a child and would cry when his parents had to refuse some of them ( because there were over 50 cats, birds, rabbits etc).
- Was very good in school but was disheartened towards the end knowing he would just work on the farm anyway.
- Used to be scared of the dark and would ask if Lao could sleep over every night
- Raiden does have an adventurous nature and loves learning new things, but he is also content with what he has, unlike Lao who wants more out of life. Also very curious
- great at cuddles, loves when Lao puts all of his body weight on him
- Raidens weakness is Lao’s dimples. He kisses them all the time
- purposely and accidentally zaps Lao and his sister
- practices without his amulet because he doesn’t want it to become a crutch
- never uses his phone
- Raiden’s mother was the village’s tailor who taught him how to sew, despite his father seeing it as a “woman’s activity.” He would patch up Lao’s hat himself whenever it got holes.
- never twitched in his sleep until he harnessed the power of lightning and thunder. His hand sometimes twitches so much it tickles Lao awake, or sometimes zaps him.
- likes dragon ball z
Kung Lao
- Was born kicking and screaming
- Always the life of the group- whether in friendship groups, at school, at work, ect.
- Never really paid attention in school- couldn’t concentrate and couldn’t sit still.
- Twitches in his sleep.
- Sometimes was shamed for being loud and obnoxious, can get insecure that he annoys people and will retreat from them (especially when he was young).
- Always chose dare in truth or dare
- Since he grew up in a rural village, he tried his best to attend every party/event because he got bored very easily. Would drag Raiden along with him. Was a bit of a jerk and would sometimes ditch Raiden for a girl (he convinced himself Raiden would never like him back so he tried to ease the sting by going after other people.)
- Loves karaoke, he and Johnny rule the stage.
- His farts are deadly
- Raiden winning the tournament made him feel multiple things: proud that Raiden was strong enough to do so, and also jealous that it wasn’t him. He felt he couldn’t live up to his family name completely because of it. His jealousy only runs skin deep–he would never let it get between him and Raiden.
- Lao’s weakness is Raidens eyes, especially when he gives him the puppy dog eyes
- he most definitely exaggerated the secret mission to Raiden when he got back, and complained about how he was a third wheel the whole time.
- is the one to have a smashed phone screen
-
Lao is an only child, which made him closer to Raiden and his sister.
- doesn’t like bugs especially ones that fly
- despite all of the hats he has designed, he still keeps his regular straw one. Especially because Raiden spent time mending it and it felt it too precious to throw away.
- Liu Kang saw through Lao’s bullshit and told him to make his move already on Raiden.
- although people doubt Raiden he always defends his man, boasting about his abilities and skills. (Same vibe as Johnny boasting about Kenshi)
Relationship and childhood:
- Friends since they were young kids and have been attached at the hip ever since. They were the opposites, which made people confused on how they were best friends.
- Raiden would try to get work done but would end up laughing at Lao’s antics, causing the teacher to seperate them. Lao still found ways to distract Raiden from the across the room though.
-
Been next door neighbours their whole lives. Their windows were across from each others and when Lao would get grounded they would talk across from their windows. They sometimes fell asleep on the windowsills.
-
When they had gotten older and graduated from school they had talked about living together as “roommates”. Raiden hesitated as he felt he has to take care of his family, even though he craved some independence.
- When they were both 17 they had a roadtrip to Hong Kong, one of the few times they had been to a city. Kung Lao started to develop his feelings for Raiden at this stage, but was too scared to tell him.
- Kung Lao sometimes feels like he isn’t enough/needed by Raiden, yet Raiden wouldn’t know where he’d be without Kung Lao.
- Madame Bo’s special tea- they most definitely get high from this time to time
- Both unbeknownst to each other have asked Johnny for dating advice when they were desperate. Johnny gave awful advice, offering to be their wingmen. He also tried to play matchmaker.
- Lao was open about his sexuality and feelings first. Lao didn’t say anything for ages because he was terrified of losing or changing their friendship, despite Raiden’s open-minded nature.
- Lao kissed Raiden first, and then ran away out of fear and embarrassment
- Raiden gives knuckle kisses and Lao gives cheek kisses
- Raiden thrives in his words, praising Lao from head to toe. He especially loves his dimples.
- Lao loves dancing and makes Raiden dance with him (he has two left feet)
- Lao would often have late night talks with Raiden about a life outside the farm before the events of MK1. Although he spoke about it often, Raiden always listened and always tried to make him feel better.
- Lao gets jealous of Scorpion, as Raiden trains and speaks so highly of him ( will probably make a fic of this).
Lui Kang: are you aware that Raiden trains with Scorpian?
Lao: to what end, Lord Liu Kang?
Okay but this screams jealousy like Scorpian is taking up a lot of Raidens time cmon now
- One point of tension in their relationship is when others go to Raiden about Lao’s ego. Raiden feels obligated to talk to him about it, making Lao feel like a scolded child.
- Both of them hate being compared- Raiden knows that Lao feels as if he lives in his shadow, and Raiden loathes that people don’t see what he sees in his friend/lover.
- Raiden actually adores Lao’s humour. He sees him as the sun (which is funny because Kung Lao feels like he is often casted in the Sun’s shadows) . Lao is the ease and lightheartedness Raiden needs after a long day.
- Being Shaolins made them very busy, and they may have drifted for a period of time. Though they always come back to each other.
- When Raiden learned that Lao could have turned into one of Shang Tsung experiments, he was ready to kill and maim that man himself. (Don’t mess with Raiden’s man).
- raiden usually always pays for meals
- wear each others clothes
geras: “your future is at Raidens side.” Need I say more
NSFW:
- Both switch but Raiden mostly tops
- Raiden has used his amulet before so that he could overstimulate Lao with his electricity. (Will write a fic of this too)
- Both are quite nervous to show affection in public despite being surrounded by supportive friends. However, they are both monsters in private.
- Because they harness self control often, sex is one thing they try to be completely free in. This means letting go of control and taking pleasure in feeling the moment.
- Both actually lack experience (despite Lao’s confidence). They learn their bodies together. Lao has sensitive ribs and Raiden had a sensitive neck.
- they are both teasers, especially Lao. They both like to drag out their orgasms for as long as possible.
- they grab and pull each others hair 🥸
some little characterisation thingys:
Kung lao: “I don’t think I’m good enough”
Raiden: “I wish you could see what I see”
Raiden: “I’m so tired and sore, though I must keep training”
Kung Lao: “What about we drink some of Madame Bo’s special tea and give each other massages instead >:)”
Kung Lao: “I never thought you’d feel the same way”
Raiden: “I’ve been wanting you for so long”
