Chapter Text

Ella Lopez found herself driving to LUX. She couldn’t explain it but she just knew the Big Guy was pushing her there. She had actually been nearby anyway. She got out and rode the elevator up to the penthouse. As she stepped out she let out a scream at the sight before her. Lucifer was laying on the ground, foaming at the mouth as a priest stood over him and Chloe was off to the side. “What the Hell are you doing?! Get away from him!” She yelled at them, running over to Lucifer’s side. “Come on buddy, wake up.”

“Ma’am get away from him. He’s dangerous. He’s the Devil. We must send him back to Hell to save the world.” Kinley tried to pull her back.

“Dude! He’s not the Devil. He’s just a normal guy.” Ella grabbed some charcoal she kept on her and some water. As a forensic scientist one could never be too safe. She massaged Lucifer’s throat to make him swallow.

“Ella he really is the Devil.” Chloe said, terrified in the corner. “I saw his other face.”

Ella looked down at Lucifer who was starting to come around. He had always proclaimed himself to be the Devil…

“I am, Ms. Lopez.” Lucifer choked out quietly, throat dry and in pain.

Ella decided then. “I don’t care. I don’t.” She glared up at the others. “And you!” She kicked the priest in the nuts suddenly and he went down. “The Devil was an Angel, you moron. You really think the Big Guy wouldn’t send him back to Hell if He really wanted? You can’t exorcise an Angel. Even I know that. It only works on demons. Lucifer isn’t evil. He’s had more than enough time and opportunity to harm any of us and yet he hasn’t.” She looked up at Chloe. “And you should know that! He’s your partner. Your kid has hung off of him how many times and he lets her?! He punishes evil. Does that seem like the actions of someone evil to you?!”

“Well put.” Came a booming voice as there was a crack of lightning and a bright light shone. Ella jumped. “Be not afraid, Ella Lopez. Do you not recognize your Lord?”

Ella was shocked as she bowed down before the figure that was starting to take shape from the light. “L… Lucifer, he needs… they were trying to…” She looked down at him.

“I know.” God knelt down by Lucifer, helping him up. “Come, Lucifer.” He placed a hand on his head to make sure he was safe to cross dimensional barriers before looking up at Chloe and Kinley. “I will deal with you both later.” God growled at the two humans who had attempted to harm His son. He waved His hand and they both disappeared. He held a hand out to Ella. “Thank you, My dear, for being there for Lucifer.”

Lucifer didn’t even get a chance to protest before they disappeared.

Ella looked around, baffled. “Where…?” She saw the gates before them. “We’re… in Heaven?” She was taken aback. She was still alive and wasn’t Lucifer banished from Heaven? How much of the story had they gotten wrong if that wasn’t even true?!

“He was. That part is true.” God looked at her softly. “Though not for the reasons believed. But that is a discussion for us to have when Lucifer is coherent enough to discuss. My son… he will need support. The nature of your relationship is, of course, between the two of you, but you are good for him. You have my blessing for wherever your relationship may go. I wish you to be here for him, even here. It will be hard for him, being home after so long and having been betrayed by Chloe Decker.”

Ella blushed, looking away from the Lord. She had had feelings for Lucifer for a while but didn’t want to get in between him and Chloe. “I’m nothing special.” She said quietly, looking at Lucifer who had passed out in the journey. “I just don’t believe it is fair to judge him for his job, and a rebellion that happened long ago. He should be judged on his own merits and actions just as anyone else is.”

“And that makes you special, Ella.” God told her, smiling. “It is unfortunately quite rare that humans can see My son past his being the Devil.” He looked down sadly at Lucifer. “He has been through so much.” God said quietly, sadly. “Now that I can step in though, I am going to.”

“Why have you let humanity vilify him?” Ella was scared but she had always wanted to know. God was meant to be merciful, and loving, yet He had banished His own son and then allowed him to be vilified.

“I made a promise long ago.” God said. “To Lucifer. I gave My Word that I would ensure certain things would happen. To do so, I could not interfere until now. He couldn’t know the full details of the plan either, however everything was to fulfill the promise he asked me to give. It pained Me to have to send him away. To let humans see him as a monster. Terribly. He never deserved to go through that.” They had made their way to a building. “You should know, the gates of Heaven will remain forever open to you so long as you are loyal to Lucifer. I ask you for nothing more than not to intentionally harm him.” He laid Lucifer on a bed and called for Raphael.

“Dad?” Raphael appeared, looking between his Father and Ella and Lucifer baffled, but he knew better than to question his Father about why Lucifer was here. Or a living human. “What happened to him?” He started to do a few cursory scans.

“A couple of humans…” God spat angrily. “decided they had the right to decide that Lucifer belongs in Hell. They poisoned him and then tried to exorcise him.”

“Idiots.” Raphael muttered. Lucifer and he had been close before the rebellion. “An exorcism wouldn’t even work on an Angel. Fallen or not. They will be punished, right?” He got to work making sure all of the poison was out of Lucifer’s system and that there would be no lasting effects.

“They will.” God growled. “I intend to make an example of them.” No longer would humanity be permitted to vilify Lucifer.
