I'M NOT DYING AS A MONKIE

Summary:

Lady Bone Demon thought she’d have better luck if Macaque wasn't himself? That's just my theory. Because WHY ELSE WOULD I BE HERE?!

Speaking of which…

Where is that hairbrush? I lean down and look under the table, not there. Did I put it in the kitchen? And… nope not there either.

“Savage, have you seen the brush?” The bedroom door opens and I dodge out the way of the brush that was flying towards me like a speeding bullet.
“Thanks bud!” I am not good at catching things.

my eye caught itself in the mirror again as I started to lean down, it's wrong. Macaque's eye is meant to either be gold or purple. Why is it green? Odd…

Or: Someone from the real world wakes up in Macaque’s body and they are trying to deal with it while also looking after shadows.

Notes:

I was chatting with my sister and came up with this. Then school started and the town next to mine flooded. Fun. Don't become an AO3 author, the curse is real!

Also the character has autism in case it isn't obvious.

(See the end of the work for more notes and other works inspired by this one.)

Chapter 1: Pilot

Summary:

someone ends up in macaques body. luckily they are exhausted and autistic.

Chapter Text

I was just sitting down an hour ago, watching a show made to sell legos in China with my little sister, talking about how Sandy was my all time favorite and how I wish I wasn't allergic to cats. So the only possible explanation is my terrible sleep schedule caught up with me because that's the only way I can think of that I'm here.

As my 3rd favorite character.

Of said Lego show.

Is this a dream? Maybe. Do I care that it's a dream? No. Have I watched too much isekai anime for me to not want to test my mortality in this strange situation?

Very much so.

Everything is way too loud, I miss my ear-defenders.

Did lady bone demon do this? Can she do this? Put a stranger's consciousness into an almost omniscient monkey? Probably not but it's the only theory I have that isn't “this is all a dream”, so it will have to do for now.

“Testing… testing… Six eared Macaque can you hear me…?” Oh thank goodness it's my voice and not his! Rest in peace original voice actor you will be missed, but even with that I don't think I can cope with hearing his voice when I talk. I also don't want to sound like Gene from Aphmau when season 4 hits.

I should totally call monkey king “Laurence”

Wait- I’m getting side tracked.

I looked around the area, trying to figure out my location. By the looks of it I don't have the stupid key on me so that's a good sign… though that might mean that LBD isn't the reason I’m here.

Ok, that's a start at least. But I am in the desert so that means that it probably wasn't too long since Macaque got revived.

The glamorous feel weird. Not in the “my sensory issues are going ballistic” weird, more like “wearing your grandad's shirt when you're a little kid” type weird.

The city is close, I can probably get to the entrance soon enough… but I might want to find out if I have Macaque’s powers first.

Am I too relaxed in this situation? No I am not. I just haven't had the ability to process if this is real or not so I'm treading the line. Then again I normally don't have dreams.

How does Macaque even use his shadow abilities? I know that he can reach inside his chest and pull out a shadow lazer and walk through shadows like the wall doesn't exist.

Also knowing Macaque can't hear me and he's not in my head is a little concerning. I'm jumping a lot. I should stop jumping. Oh I'm going into panic mode. That is why I'm doing this. Ok that explains a lot.

Maybe once I figure out this shadow thing I can steal one of Sandys therapy cats.

Am I still allergic to cats?

Hope not, Sandy is my favorite character. Number 1 on my list. I want to sit down and watch cartoons with him.

Also if I hear my voice when I talk does that mean other people will hear my voice or will they hear Macaque's voice? I'll find out eventually.

Once I got my train of thought to stop jumping off the rails I just started walking to the city.

Clearly I need a plan, all I have so far is get a job at the theater and find out how to use Macaque's shadow abilities. Oh also don't die. And preferably don't get hurt either.

Walking closer to the city made me feel nauseous, all the sounds and buzzing were very overwhelming. It's bad enough I have sensitive hearing in real life, but the fact it's a wider range makes it so much worse!

I had no clue where to even start looking for things, the show didn't really say when Macaque got revived. The fan-fics always put him in a lot of pain after he was revived, but what I'm feeling isn't pain or hunger. It's overload.

Sensory overload.

His fur was itchy and I could hear every conversation, every heartbeat, every car… My head hurts…

Since I'm not sure how to use his powers I think stealing a cloak is in order. Don't want people thinking I'm the monkey king and choosing to pick a fight.

Oh… my… gosh… my eyes light up as I see that just outside the wall of the city, some poor unfortunate soul left out their clean washing to dry, and low and behold! It was the cloak! I can't believe that Macaque stole it from the first house he came across- actually I can because I'm about to.

Never mind, turns out I'm a coward. Sensory overload and guilt don't mix well! It's the worst! I put the cloak back, feeling a bit frustrated about how I couldn't steal.

I hate being a good person sometimes!

So I just walk away, I'll figure out a different way to hide myself.

I felt one of the ears twitch. Oh it felt strange having 6 ears, even weirder that they twitched. Then again I have been choosing to ignore the tail for the same reason- speaking of which, why does he have that? Macaques aren't meant to have tails! And the reason I know it's a real tail is because 1, I can feel it and 2, in the show when Macaque fell out of the exploding lantern his glamor vanished a little on the tail and it was white at the end!

It would be so nice to have a Game menu for things like powers. Not like I could press the controls but it would be nice. If only.

Can I just lucid dream it into existence?

“Open settings”

Yeah that was stupid. Not sure why I thought it would work.

I let out a sigh then looked around to see if anyone witnessed my shame. No one was around. Except my shadow with purple glowing eyes.

“What are you looking at? Are you Macaque judging me or are you one of his clones placed in my… his… Shadow?”

To my shock the shadow shrugged at me “are you non-verbal?”

The shadow shrugged again

“Is that a yes but you can't really move your head so you're doing what you can do to get the point across?”

The shadow blinked.

“I'm in burn out so I apologize if I'm being blunt and a little silly or robotic” not like I haven't talked to my own shadow before… granted it never responded back before but one thing at a time.

I crouched down and wrote “yes”, “no”, “maybe”, “IDK” and “repeat” in the sand. The eyes from the shadow didn't feel like real eyes, I'm grateful for that. If the shadow is a clone then it makes sense.

“I'm guessing from how long Macaque has been dead for that you don't know what IDK means, it means “I don't know” so if you wanna say that, move a small bit of you there, same for the other replies. Is that ok?” The shadow blinked again, then its head moved so it covered the “yes”.

Good. Question time.

“Are you a clone”

The shadow moved over to “maybe”

“So you aren't sure?”

I don't know

“Do you think you're the real Six eared Macaque?”

No

Alright, that's progress. Probably a clone with identity issues. “Do you know where Macaque's consciousness is?”

No

“Alright…” I take a minute to process this, he is probably asleep in my brain or something. That's how these things work right?

“Can you show me a place where I can stay safe for a couple of days?”

Yes

Wait really?! Huh. Didn't expect that.

After a couple of minutes the shadow had shown me to a place close by to the docks, not really a dojo that Macaque had but more like a shipping container that had been converted into a small apartment.

“Does this belong to anyone? Blink once for yes and twice for no.”

The shadow blinked twice. This shipping container is nice, the furniture looked old and it was a little cold but it was nice, then my eyes fell to some money on the table and a note. “This clearly belongs to someone. Did you lie to me?!” I glare at the shadow, the audacity it has to just shrug back at me! I'm calling it Savage now.

I know that technically Rumble and Savage aren't canon but if I'm going to name this thing something I'm being unoriginal.

I pick up the note, to my surprise it seems to be a bit coincidental and way too convenient.

“I bought this shipping container and converted it in hopes that someone in need will use it until they get back on their feet. The key is under the sink and there is canned food in the fridge. I will be visiting every Thursday to see if it's being used, please enjoy your stay. Don't forget to check out…” I trail off, the rest of the note was just a link to some website I'd never heard of, when I flipped the page there was a QRcode on the back. “What in the Mr Beast?!” I laugh.

I couldn't tell how much money was on the counter. After all, I am not Chinese.

I'm not looking forward to eating things here, I know for a fact that food is made differently depending on where in the world you are. And that's the same for takeaways! I'm sticking to fruit and veg until I can find things I'm comfortable eating here.

I walked around the small apartment for a while, it only had 2 rooms and a bathroom, it was small but comfortable. I didn't feel like the walls were caving in but it was still loud. I could hear all the boats, fog horns and cats… guess I know that Sandy is somewhere around here.

I flopped down on the bed and hid my face in the pillow. Squishing it against my ears until the sounds calmed down. What time was it…? I lifted my head up and looked at the alarm clock on the bedside table… 18:00… a bit early to fall asleep.

Then again if I sleep then the noise will stop…
