Work Text:
It was dark. She made sure. She couldn’t have done this otherwise.
She gathered enough emeralds to run somewhere else, somewhere safe. Her powers were suppressed and she can only rely on spells and different external sources like gemstones to power her magic.
It was unacceptable. Every nerve of her being hated it, dragons aren't supposed to need this, but she had no other choice. Her pride be damned.
So she runs. When she’s confident that she was miles away, she looks back and observes the very top of the castle she used to call home. I can’t afford a single mistake.
She casts her first spell: invisibility. She extends her wings and soars up into the sky, she flies further away.
She spots an open field with a single slab of granite in the middle and swiftly lands before it. She observes the symbols roughly etched deep into the stone and confirms the spell: A new world, a single wish. She makes a quick slice on the palm of her hand and begins to draw on the stone with her blood. This magic needs its user’s blood in order to siphon the proper energies, an error in the strokes or the shape could change it entirely. She made sure to practice, you won’t make a mistake. She hears the distant sound of armor clanging and quickly arranges the emerald around the stone, they won’t get you again. She finishes setting up and takes a few steps back. Reaching out her cut hand with the palm facing outwards. She takes a deep breath in.
“ Iruri.”
Her blood on the granite glows blue and the gemstones float a few feet off the ground before a black substance emerges from them, they all reach up and around the granite until eventually converging at the center.. The stone is now covered in the black substance. The dragon continues to look, hoping for something to change. Nothing does. The entire scene looked… odd in contrast to the sky and grass around it. The darkness it held was unlike any she'd ever seen, it was somehow darker than the night sky. The emptiness of it made her nervous but she’d already done her research. That portal will be her freedom, she won't ever return and they won't ever find her.
“Find her before sunrise! ” She hears a voice say from the forest.
She takes a deep breath in. Not a single mistake.
Dawon closes her eyes and jumps into the unknown.
——————————
Sojung is sick. Dawon had just gone back from grocery shopping when she heard her weakly coughing from the bedroom. She rushes in.
Sojung’s head was laying on top of the keyboard, her face flushed red and breathing; heavy.
"Unnie," she approaches gently, worried. Her hand moves to touch Sojung's forehead, "you're burning up." The girl just groans in response, her hand slowly raises up to push Dawon away but instead it falls weakly on the girl's forearm.
Dawon feels an itch on her back. She doesn’t know why but she suddenly wants to turn. The urge to make sure Sojung’s apartment is safeguarded, to make sure no one can come in and hurt her.
It’s dumb.
She knows that her apartment is safe, the cctv cameras along the hallways and the street are always on and not to mention, there’s always a security guard on watch by the entrance.
Her unnie is more than safe here, but still. The wings on her back itch to come out.
She softly exhales in frustration. Humans are so fragile, Dawon thinks to herself as she observes the girl. She quickly organizes the scattered pens and trinkets on the table before positioning her arms underneath Sojung’s knees and on her lower back. Dawon gently raises her body, carrying Sojung and moving her to bed. She groans softly as Dawon lays her down and covers her up with a blanket.
Dawon softly runs her fingers through Sojung’s hair, arranging the bright orange strands so they don’t touch her skin. She leans in and presses a soft kiss on her forehead before whispering, "I'll be back."
She steps out of the room and goes to the open balcony. Luda should know what to do. Dawon jumps out and lets her wings break free. She soars up into the sky and heads towards the witch’s home. I’m sure she has something to cure human ailments.
On her way, she spots a tall white building with a huge “Seoul General Hospital” at the top. She remembers Sojung’s human friend. The tall girl with an icy glare…
Dawon floats hundreds of feet off of the ground as she hesitates. I suppose human doctors will know more about human ailments than witches… She thinks back on their first interaction and remembers how the girl had looked at her. Is this actually a good idea?
She spots the girl she had been thinking of exiting the building, white coat pristine and long hair tied into a neat bun. She observes as the girl approaches a car, it’s for Sojung unnie. You can do this Dawon-ah.
She casts a spell to mask her wings and heads down.
——————————
It was awkward. Hyunjung had forgotten her name and Dawon almost resorted to magic just to convince the girl that she wasn’t a scammer but eventually, the doctor agreed to go to Sojung’s apartment.
They arrive separately (neither of them were comfortable being alone together in a closed space for too long.) Hyunjung had driven her car and once she had entered the apartment, quickly made her way into Sojung’s room. She doesn’t question how Dawon was there before her despite having left first.
Dawon just waits by the door to Sojung’s bedroom.
After a few moments, Hyunjung exits the room. Her white coat is still perfectly on her and her hair is still neat. She stands out in the middle of the living room that’s filled with half-eaten bags of chips and unwashed cups. The doctor faces Dawon and says, “ Sojung has a fever.” She tells her how she had placed a cool cloth on her forehead and explained that it would help cool her down. She hands Dawon a piece of paper with scribbles on it. Dawon didn’t understand her writing.
“It's a prescription for her fever. Just hand the paper to the pharmacist and they’ll give you what you need. On the back are instructions on when to give her the medicine.” Dawon checks the back side and tries to understand. “Make sure she doesn’t miss a dose so she feels better quickly.”
Hyunjung’s phone dings and she takes it out to check, “I’ll need to go now, but my office number is on there as well.” The doctor heads to the front door and gets ready to leave before calling Dawon’s attention.
“Call if you need anything, okay?”
Dawon is a bit starstruck with how kind Hyunjung sounds. Her tone was monotonous and her expression hadn't changed, but her words had helped to relieve the tension Dawon had felt since earlier.
She nods slowly and Hyunjung takes that as her cue to exit. She closes the door behind her.
Worried and now without another living being around to distract her, Dawon decides to head to the pharmacy to get Sojung’s medicine. It went by fairly quickly and she arrived back at the apartment feeling motivated. It was still a few hours before she needed to give Sojung her dosage so she placed the plastic bag on the counter and started to clean.
She needs to keep busy.
By the time she finishes, a few hours have passed and it’s almost time for dinner. Sojung is still asleep. She prepares a sandwich, a glass of water, and the medicine Hyunjung had prescribed.
Dawon enters the girl’s room quietly and places the items on her bedside table. She observes Sojung and sighs in relief when she notices that she isn’t heaving now, unlike earlier. She takes off the cloth on her forehead and gently wipes away at the droplets of water and sweat on her skin. She places the damp, lukewarm cloth on the table and proceeds to gently caress the top of Sojung’s head to wake her.
“Unnie, it’s time for your medicine.” After a few tries, Sojung begins to stir awake.
Her eyes squint at the bright light of her room before she notices the figure hovering over her, “Dawonie… ?”
Dawon’s heart begins to race at the girl’s raspy voice, now is not the time. “Yes unnie,” She answers, continuing to caress Sojung’s head. “You need to eat something before your medicine. Hyunjung unnie said you have a fever.”
Sojung closes her eyes as she hums in acknowledgement. She takes a moment. “My head hurts.” Dawon leans in to softly kiss the top of her head, her kiss mark glows in a soft yellow hue before disappearing completely. “That should help,” the dragon comforts, paying no attention to the ache she begins to feel around her own temples.
Sojung smiles at her, “Thank you.” She then sits up and takes the glass of water and sandwich from the table. She takes a small sip before taking a bite.
Dawon uses the time to quickly organize the papers on Sojung’s work table and keyboard. She also turns down the air conditioner when she notices Sojung shivering.
Soon enough, Sojung finishes her light meal and downs the medicine Dawon prepared. She places them back on the bedside table before laying back down, “are you gonna sleep here?”
Dawon picks up the plate and glass, “I’ll just clean these and come right back.”
Sojung raises the blanket up to her chin and hums in contentment, “okay, I’ll wait for you.”
It took just a few minutes but when Dawon had gone back to Sojung’s room, the girl was already knocked out. She smiles to herself and begins to close all the lights.
It was just 7pm.
Dawon steps into the room and shifts her form. Porcelain skin turns into soft, charcoal-colored fur and the structure of her bones and muscles change .
She remembers how this same process had hurt, all those centuries ago, when she was still a youngling. She remembers her father berating her for wailing and crying over the pain of having her body break and heal back into something new. I can barely feel the changes now though.
Dawon gets a glimpse of herself on the full-length mirror and purrs in satisfaction. Her long tail is raised up. It gently sways as she makes her way to Sojung’s bed. She jumps over and settles right next to her. Sojung unconsciously turns to face her and moves an arm over her small, feline figure. Dawon purrs and licks at the girl’ cheek. I hope you’re better soon, unnie. Dawon closes her eyes and snuggles closer when Sojung’s arm moves to pull her to her chest.
——————————
The first thing she sees is a figure with short blonde hair sitting on Sojung’s couch. The blonde is caressing the head of a black cat laying leisurely on her lap. She cooed and made kissy faces as she continued to rub and pet its body.
“What a good baby you are, yes you are, such a nice kitty- oh!” The cat twisted its body in place and presented its belly, the human didn’t hesitate to touch the newly exposed fluff. Her voice raised in pitch as she continued smothering the cat in attention.
Oh. A dream.
The blonde figure was Sojung’s younger cousin and the cat on her lap was… Dawon. This scene had happened months before, when Dawon had first arrived on this realm and weeks after she met Sojung.
She wasn’t comfortable being in her human figure around others and so the compromise was this. She’ll be in her feline form whenever others are around.
It’s been a while since Dayoungie visited…
She focuses on her cat-self’s expression and listens as it purrs. Seeing herself be voluntarily small and pliant under a human felt weirdly comforting.
The humans from this realm are different. My father would have my head if he knew the state I’m in.
She feels a touch on her head and turns to look. It was Sojung, but her figure was unusually big. She feels herself being carried and looks down at her own figure. She observes as her dragon body is lifted by gigantic human arms. Dawon looks up and locks eyes with a giant Sojung who has a smile on her face.
Suddenly, she no longer feels giant Sojung’s hands around her.
She’s falling.
She watches as giant Sojung’s eyes follow her, expressionless.
She falls further and further.
She can’t fly.
She reaches out an onyx claw to giant Sojung–
Dawon jolts awake. The first thing she feels is cold.
The arms around her were nowhere to be found. She registers the faint sound of running water and quickly transforms back into her human form. Dawon stands and heads out of the room and paces towards the bathroom, “Unnie, are you okay?” Her voice is groggy and her throat feels parched but she continues and knocks softly, “How are you feeling? Any dizziness?”
The shower shuts off and she waits for Sojung, her heart growing more anxious with every step that she hears– The door opens and the first thing Dawon sees is orange.
Sojung had bumped into her.
Arms quickly wrap around Sojung’s waist, “are you still nauseous?” Dawon’s hand moves up to the girl’s forehead, feeling her temperature. “Want me to carry you to bed?" Sojung looks up at Dawon, cheeks slightly flushed. She must still feel hot. I’ll turn on the air conditioner after laying her down. The dragon attempts to carry her but then Sojung laughs and sniffles before gently prying Dawon’s hand away from her head, “I’m feeling a lot better Dawonie, thank you.” Sojung’s voice was scratchy. She rests a hand on the other’s shoulder as she adds, “I just didn’t expect you to be so close to the door.”
Dawon looks into her eyes, "you sure?" Sojung smiles and nods at her. A few seconds pass before the taller girl sighs in defeat. She pulls Sojung close and rests her chin on the girl’s shoulder. Dawon takes a deep breath in.
“Can I sleep next to you later?” She asks, voice soft.
Sojung smiles, “haven’t we already?” Dawon feels her arms curling around her neck and fingers combing her hair. “You’ll probably catch my cold at this point.”
Dawon squeezes her waist and leans in closer, “nope.” Dawon reassures her, “I’ll burn it before it gets to my immune system.”
A gentle swarm of butterflies fills her stomach as she feels Sojung chuckle, “let’s have dinner and lay down then, sounds good?” That prompts Dawon to pull away, “Okay.” She leaves a soft kiss on the girl’s cheek before heading to the kitchen.
——————————
On the ground a dragon lays. It’s unmoving. A large sword sticks up from its back as blue blood drips down its figure.
Dawon had gotten through the portal but before it closed, a persistent knight had caught up with her. He was able to pierce her back and yelled in victory as she roared in pain.
Willing herself to overcome the throbbing pain from her back she quickly faces the human and takes a deep breath in. A hot and bright flame erupts from her open jaws and she kills him in a single exhale. She pants as she stares at the ashes on the ground. Her magic had returned, the feeling of it flowing through her veins giving her a familiar kind of thrill.
Stubborn fool.
Dawon calms down and finally takes in her surroundings.
It was dark and a forest surrounded her. If it weren’t for her magic returning, she would’ve assumed that she was still in the same place. Still home. Still a prisoner.
Comforted by the dark, Dawon lets her body fall. The sword had impaled important joints and any attempts she had made to reach for it caused the blade to cut more into her body. Her wound bleeds. She can’t pull it out. I wonder if it was a mistake to run away here.
She can feel the warm liquid dripping down her back and her vision starts to blur. The dragon whimpers softly, hopeless.
“Hello? ” A voice calls out from the dark.
“Juyeon? Can you hear me? ” The voice cracks and Dawon wants to laugh. I wonder if they’ll kill me. The dragon closes her eyes and prepares to accept her fate. “Where the fuck am I? ” She continues to listen as leaves rustle and footsteps move closer to her direction. The voice gasps and all other sounds stop.
Moments pass by.
Footsteps continue and Dawon just waits as the sounds grow louder. The owner of the voice moves closer and closer. They could end me… I feel… weak… it wouldn’t be difficult for them to do. Dawon expects the urge to fly away to come to her. She’s in danger. These could be her final moments. She knows she should want to get away and in her mind, she envisions herself burning her surroundings to keep safe. She could do it. She knows she can. Her breath stutters and all the will to try and fight leave her.
An eerie calm overwhelms her body. I’m losing a lot of blood.
She feels a caress from the base of her horn, it’s slow and hesitant. Gentle. Dawon tries to open her eyes only to be blinded by a bright light. The gods have found me. She loses consciousness.
——————————
The front door slams shut and Dawon is startled. She turns off the stove and checks. Sojung had entered the apartment with a frown on her face, she was grumbling as she removed her shoes and the scarf around her neck.
The bright haired girl looks up and locks eyes with Dawon. The taller girl can already feel the tension in the air. “Dawon.” The way Sojung says her name has an edge to it, not like how she usually says it; soft and sweet. Uh oh.
The girl takes a step into the house and already, she looks like she’s seconds away from either collapsing or throwing her bag at someone. Dawon didn’t want either to happen, so she quickly makes her way to Sojung, with a small smile on her face. She takes Sojung’s bag and places it on the counter before gently cupping the girl's cheeks, using a bit of her powers so that the palms of her hand emitted a comfortable heat.
“Welcome home unnie,” Dawon greets the girl, voice calm and a soft smile on her face. It causes the frown on Sojung’s face to melt away as she closes her eyes and wraps her arms around the taller girl’s waist. She sighs and it makes Dawon’s heart flutter, how pliant the girl becomes, how the arms around her were tight without being suffocating.
Her Sojung unnie always liked being in her arms .
She holds back a chuckle and instead leans in to leave a kiss on the girl’s temple. Sojung hums in satisfaction before pulling herself closer to Dawon’s warmth.
“It was soooo cold on the way home,” Sojung grumbles and Dawon raises the temperature of her body with magic and tightens her hold around the girl. “Unnie,” the dragon starts with a chuckle, “you only wore a sweater to work, you could’ve asked me to bring you your coat.” She places a warm hand on the girl’s nape, “You just had a cold.” Dawon presses a kiss on the top of her head, “you know I wouldn’t mind.” Sojung lets out a deep breath and looks up at Dawon, pouting. The taller girl laughs at her expression, “It’s okay unnie, you’re home now.” Sojung’s pout fades as Dawon moves her arms to give her a proper embrace, “I’ll make sure to keep you warm.” Sojung lets out a tired laugh and buries her face into the tall girl’s chest.
Dawon feels the arms around her waist squeeze, “I’m home Dawon-ah.”
They stay like that for a while.
Sojung had been busier the past few weeks, something about needing to be in the studio for recording. Dawon didn’t really understand and while interested, she hasn’t gotten the opportunity to ask Sojung if she can come with yet. I think I’ll just be a distraction if I ask her now.
Her mind drifts to the dinner she was in the middle of making, and she subtly double checks the stove to see if she did in fact turn off the fire. Fire’s out, all good.
“Work was frustrating today.” Sojung begins and Dawon turns her attention back to her. “So many things went wrong and management kept on asking for adjustments for all these small little things and I just-” she huffs before letting out a deep sigh. “I just wanted to go home.”
Dawon gently squeezes Sojung in her arms. I just wanted to go home, she said. The taller girl couldn’t stop the smile forming on her face as she began to gently sway their bodies. She wanted to ask if they should go have dinner but then Sojung kissed the side of her neck and her brain stop working. Sojung pulls away and Dawon fails to function as the girl tells her, “I’ll just go shower and change then let’s eat dinner, yeah? The apartment smelled so good from the hallway.” She leaves a peck on her cheek before heading to the bathroom.
Dawon stands there for a few more moments.
The door to the bathroom closing snaps her out of her trance. I-I should finish cooking– She quickly turns and hits the side of her hips on the corner of the countertop.
She groans and curls into herself as she hears the shower water run.
——————————
“Unnie! We should go camping again, Jiyeon-unnie said she has free time next weekend.” Juyeon’s voice resounds through the room. Sojung was in a video call with the younger girl and had put it on speaker as she was fiddling with her laptop.
The bright haired girl turned to look at her phone as she hummed in thought. “You can bring Dawon-unnie, the more the merrier!”
At the mention of her name, Dawon pops her head from underneath the thick blanket on Sojung’s bed. Sojung chuckles as she notices the dragon’s messy bed head and continues to look at her, not minding that Juyeon can definitely see her lovestruck expression from the other side of the screen. “Maybe. I’ll check with her first if she wants to go.”
Dawon moves to sit up on the bed. She stretches her back and yawns before standing and slowly walking with a soft smile on her face. The bright haired girl mirrors her expression as she keeps her eyes on Dawon as she approaches.
“She needs to go if you’re going to go! Remember last time? You got lost in the woods! Hyunjung-unnie and I were so worried–”
Dawon gently wraps her arms around Sojung's neck and presses a kiss at the top of her head.
“Ah! Dawon-unnie!” Juyeon greets. The dragon keeps her arms around Sojung as she leans down a bit to have her face be visible to the camera, “Good morning Juyeon-ah.”
“We’re planning to go camping next weekend, wanna join us?”
“If Sojung-unnie will go then I will.” Dawon smiles at the camera before turning to the girl in her arms and asks, ”will you be going?”
Sojung nods and Dawon turns to the camera again, “we’ll be going!”
“Okay, I’ll go call Hyunjung-unnie. See you lovebirds soon!”
Sojung and Dawon say their goodbyes before Juyeon ends the call.
“I made breakfast,” Sojung tells the taller girl. “Thank you, unnie.” Dawon leaves another kiss at the top of her head before heading out of the room.
Sojung goes back to fiddling with her laptop.
Their morning had started like that.
Day rolls into night. Dawon wants to run away.
The dragon keeps herself in check as she reads through the poster in her hand.
An illustration of her dragon form is front and center along with details of her scales, her magic, and where she was last seen. WANTED, DEAD OR ALIVE: Runaway daughter of the Nam Dragons. REWARDS: A position in the clan’s elite ranks and XXXXXXXX.
“There hasn't been much noise as of yet, but if that thing has already reached this realm…” Luda had closed off all the openings to the small apartment and casted a spell to hide any trace of both of them from the outside.
The witch had found the poster during her afternoon patrol.
After Dawon had stepped into their land, all the beings with an affinity for magic in the area felt the immediate shift of power. Luda was one of them. Worried that it would lead to more dragons entering their realm, she started to patrol the city. She has done so every single day since Dawon arrived a few years ago.
The dragon shifts her gaze from the crumpled paper in her hands to the witch on Sojung’s couch who was sipping the tea Sojung made for her. Her worrying has proven to have purpose.
“So?” the witch begins, agitated. “What do you plan on doing?”
Dawon gently blows on the poster in her hands and lets out a sigh as it burns into ash, “I don’t know.”
“What do you mean you don’t know? That’s from your family, isn't it?” The witch was frustrated and anxious. “Dawon,” Luda stands and angrily paces towards the taller girl, “I may be the best witch in this region, but not even I can go against an entire army of flying lizards .”
A shifting sound from behind the bedroom door catches both of their attention. Dawon sighs, unnie must’ve heard. The dragon turns towards Luda, “here.” She transfigures her human arm into its natural onyx state and plucks out a scale. “You can make charms, can’t you?”
Luda takes the shiny thing and observes as the color changes whenever light bounces off of it.
“I’ll take care of whatever happens if they do end up here.” Luda looks up at her, an eyebrow raised. Dawon nods in affirmation, “I can do it. Use the charm to protect yourself and just let me know if you hear anything else.”
Luda observes her for a moment. “What?” Dawon frowns.
The witch closes her eyes, shrugs and proceeds to the front door. She places her hand on the door knob.
“If you lose, this entire realm will be in danger.” Dawon watches as the witch looks back at her, eyes sharp. “You understand that, right?”
The dragon nods.
Luda leaves.
I know that more than anyone.
——————————
The head of the Nam Faction, a.k.a Dawon’s father, used to tell her stories about the gods that dragons served in ancient times.
‘The gods were powerful’ , he used to say. They had the ability to terraform the planet with a single touch and the dragons, well they were their trusted companions. The gods would create creatures they deemed worthy of walking Earth and kill them off when they no longer fit the gods’ plans, ‘when they no longer had purpose.’ Dragons were kept for so long because they were powerful. ‘ They had trusted the dragon-kind and tasked them with killing off the purposeless creatures.’ her father would tell her. They didn’t realize that it would be the very reason for their downfall.
The dragons had rebelled and using magic they had stolen from the gods, separated themselves from the masters they served. ‘ The dragons began to protect the very creatures they had to kill.’ Dawon remembers the pride she used to feel, ‘ We became protectors, Dawon-ah.’
Nobody had come face to face with a god for a millennia. All Dawon ever saw of them were the paintings and illustrations left in abandoned churches, all of which intrigued her. She remembers flying for miles and miles just looking for pieces of their stories. Anything that would tell her more about them, their names, how they lived. ‘ The gods have gone into hiding, using humans instead for their war.’ Her father explained how gods became scared of dragon-kind and created humans in their image and had them fight their battles for them. She remembers thinking that the gods were cowardly beings, and so were the puny humans they ordered around.
Dawon remembers her ego and the feelings of disdain she felt for human-kind. ‘ They only serve to be reminders of the chains that held us down’, her father had told her.
The dragon looks at the human in her arms. Peaceful, quiet, and with her face snuggled into her chest. Nothing at all like the villains her father had described. She moves to tuck loose hair behind the girl’s ear and tries not to wake her.
The moonlight illuminates Sojung’s face in a way that makes it hard for her to breathe. I wonder if the gods look like her. She laughs to herself . The gods could never be as beautiful as she is.
She thinks back on the life she abandoned. She remembers her friends, her home, the sky she had loved flying through, the luxury she lived in.
Dawon pulls Sojung closer to her.
She reminisces about her life. She thinks about how it all changed when she met the small, dirty, human by the church ruins just outside the city. She remembers how it approached her and smiled at the texture of her scales, how her own heart changed as she used her own powers to protect the small creature. My people branded me as a traitor the moment they saw me in those ruins, there’s no point in feeling homesick now. She doesn’t think about how they took the small creature away and how she had no way of knowing if it was still alive. She doesn’t want to think about the worst, it would do no good. She didn’t want to go back, it wouldn’t help anyone. She shouldn’t go back…
But what if–
She hears the girl let out a soft groan and sees her eyebrows scrunch slightly. Dawon relaxes her hold and whispers an apology she knows the girl won’t hear. She lets out a breath of relief when the frown on Sojung's face slowly melts away.
She closes her eyes and adjusts the blanket to cover both of them. With her eyes closed, leans into Sojung, breathing in her scent.
“Unnie,” she whispers. Sojung doesn’t reply, still fast asleep. “Will you let me stay with you?”
She feels Sojung’s arms around her waist squeeze lightly and smiles to herself.
Dawon ignores the reality they live in. She forces herself to forget how Luda looked at her in worry when she first told the witch about wanting to stay in this realm.
“You know what will happen, don’t you?”
“Yeah.”
“Human lifespans are significantly shorter than dragons.”
“I know.”
“Eventually, she’ll grow old and die… and you’ll still be here.”
“You don’t need to remind me.”
The hollow in Dawon’s chest feels deeper and she frowns. She forces herself to focus on the present.
She tunes her ears and listens to Sojung’s heartbeat. She focuses on the puffs of air hitting the skin of her neck as the girl in her arms breathes softly in her sleep. The dragon wants to keep this human in her arms forever. The urge comes to her like waves crashing on the shore. She wants to be next to her, to not let her out of her sight, to keep her safe.
The universe won’t give me an eternity with her… Dawon takes a hold of Sojung’s hand and intertwines their fingers. She smiles to herself at the feeling of soft skin, this already feels a lot better than forever though.
Her eyes glow as she begins her incantation. She makes a promise. When she finishes, she parts their hands and checks. A bright red insignia marks the center of their palms. It glows for a moment before fading.
Dawon’s arms return to their position around Sojung. She holds her human close.
“My power is yours,” she leans in and presses a kiss on the girl’s forehead. “Only death will part us.”
The moonlight continues to shine on them as Dawon succumbs to slumber.
