Chapter Text
“FUCK!”
Yang curses aloud into the open air as she sits in the gym’s locker room. She slams her fist against the metal bench, as tears run down her face. “Of course, of fucking course. You just can’t fucking help but make people leave?” she says to herself, barely aware if she’s still speaking out loud or just in her head. She looks around the room for a moment, and finds it just as empty as when she came in. The gym was barely open this late and was almost entirely void of life, as was most of the Beacon University Campus.
Her attempt at releasing her frustrations into a punching bag had left her in a worse state if anything. The silence of the gym only sent her thoughts spiraling further, even as she threw punch after punch until they made her knuckles bleed. She glares at the floor, her tears slowing down for a moment as she half-heartedly wraps a bandage around her hand.
She sits there for a moment before throwing her bag around her shoulders and walking out. She walks past the dorm building and goes straight to the parking garage and up to her bright yellow motorcycle. Her helmet was back in the dorm room, but that didn’t concern her as she got on and launched out of the garage. She scoffed as she replayed the past comments from her sister and their other two roommates about her admittedly reckless normal riding habits in her mind as she accelerated faster than usual, barreling towards the freeway that looped around the city of Vale.
Turning onto the entrance ramp she speeds up even more, flying past the car in the lane over and weaving between two more to the third lane. Adrenaline starts taking hold as she slides the bike around a van and an SUV, then accelerating more to whip by a semi truck. She steals a glance down at her speedometer for the first time since the engine started, before glaring forward while she throws the bike behind and around another series of cars at (at least) 173 miles an hour.
She continues to accelerate as she notices the road empty out in front of her for a stretch. Despite her speed increasing rapidly she starts feeling the adrenaline fade slightly and her mind shifts back to the argument earlier that night. She grits her teeth as every word she and Weiss had thrown at each other force themselves into her mind before another two images cause her to ease on the throttle.
Silently she pictures it once again, as she swung her fist at the wall next to Weiss, staring at her arm suddenly inserted into the drywall as the others stared at her. Despite not having turned to see their expressions, she could vividly picture the image of Ruby’s sad silver eyes, Weiss’s shocked but slightly vindicated blue, and finally the horrified amber along with a set of flattened cat ears. All Yang remembers after that is seeing Blake duck out of the room, trying to follow after her only to find her all but vanished from the dorm building.
Yang knew exactly why too. Blake and Yang had been basically inseparable since their first semester at Beacon and had eventually opened up enough to talk about her past abuse. Despite that, despite noticing how uncomfortable Blake was during the whole thing, Yang had managed to let her anger take control again.
She shakes her head and accelerates again as she reaches another set of cars, blasting by one after the next. Her earlier thoughts start to fade again as she scans the road in front of her and her mirrors, watching for the best openings and gaps between the other motorists. She takes a few exits onto other highways around the city, weaving between cars along each stretch of interstate before finally getting back to the beacon exit and slowing down as she makes her way down the ramp. She rides back to the student lot a bit more relaxed. She parks and sets down the kickstand before catching a glimpse of herself in the mirror. A few tears continue to run down her eyes and she wipes them away as she gets off the bike, sighs to herself and starts walking back up to the dorm.
