Chapter Text
Gyuvin's voice was filled with a gentle concern, his eyes fixating on Ricky's delicate form, cradling the small bump "I know, I know. But I can't help but worry, Ricky. You mean everything to me, and with the baby..." Gyuvin's voice trailed off, the unsaid fears hanging in the air.
Ricky, with a smile placed his hand tenderly on Gyuvin's cheek. "Hey, look at me," he said softly. "I'm stronger than I look. Plus, with the medication and the maids here, I'll be fine. You need to be there for Yeeun. She adores you, and Hao and Hanbin put a big effort into her party."
Gyuvin nodded, "Alright, but I'm coming back quickly. And if there's even a hint of discomfort, you're telling me immediately, agreed?"
Ricky laughed, "Agreed, my overprotective alpha. But you'll see, everything will be fine. Now, go make Yeeun's birthday special. And don't forget her gift, it's on the dresser."
Gyuvin glanced at the beautifully wrapped present, its ribbons catching the soft light of the morning sun. He leaned down, pressing a gentle, lingering kiss on Ricky's forehead..
"I'll be back before you even notice I'm gone," Gyuvin whispered to his ear.
Gyuvin cradled the beautifully wrapped present, adorned with pink ribbons that Ricky had meticulously chosen and wrapped himself. The gift bore the unmistakable touch of his wife, filling Gyuvin with a sense of warmth even amidst his worries. As he left their estate in his Porsche, his mind was a whirlwind of concern..
The pregnancy had initially been a beacon of joy, but Ricky's health complications had cast a shadow over their happiness. Ricky's severe nausea and the baby's underdevelopment weighed heavily on Gyuvin's heart. He remembered the nights Ricky had cried in his arms, feeling guilty for not being able to provide a healthy pup. Gyuvin had held him close, whispering words of love and reassurance.
Arriving at the local club where Hanbin and Hao were hosting Yeeun's birthday party, Gyuvin presented his identification at the entry and made his way inside. Holding the gift close, he walked toward the venue.
"Hey, I'm glad you could make it," greeted Hanbin, enveloping Gyuvin in a warm hug. "Ricky couldn't make it?"
Gyuvin shook his head "I'm worried about him. I'll just play with Yeeun for a while, greet everyone, and then head back."
Hanbin nodded and led Gyuvin through the venue. The space was transformed into a magical realm, with pink and purple balloons floating like whimsical clouds. An inflatable castle stood proudly, inviting the laughter and joy of children, while a larger castle was adorned with golden and pink laces, creating an enchanting atmosphere. The meticulous attention to detail was undoubtedly Hao's work, his talent for such things shining through in every corner of the venue.
Tables were draped in fine linens, topped with centerpieces of delicate flowers and twinkling fairy lights. A corner was set up as a photo booth, complete with playful props and a backdrop of a fairy-tale forest. The air was filled with the sound of cheerful music and the delightful giggles of children playing.
"Where is my little princess who is turning 5?" Gyuvin called out, his voice filled with excitement and affection. His eyes soon caught sight of Yeeun, looking like a fairy tale come true in her pink dress, adorned with ribbons and a sparkling tiara atop her head.
"Uncle Qubing!" Yeeun's voice rang out, her excitement palpable as she dashed towards him. Gyuvin scooped her up into his arms, swinging her around, eliciting peals of joyful giggles from the birthday girl.
Once back on the ground, Yeeun looked up at Gyuvin with curiosity. "Where is handsome uncle?" she inquired, her small hands still clutching onto his long legs.
"Uncle wasn't feeling well, so he couldn't make it," Gyuvin explained gently, . "But he made sure to pick out a gift that you will absolutely love."
Yeeun's eyes sparkled with excitement at the mention of the gift. She eagerly took the beautifully wrapped package from Gyuvin, clumsily carrying it over to add to the pile of gifts next to the palace-themed decoration, and then hurried back to the bouncy castle to continue her play.
As Gyuvin watched her with a fond smile, he heard a familiar voice “Ricky couldn’t make it?”. Turning around, he saw Hao, radiantly pregnant, approaching him. Gyuvin's face softened with empathy and affection as he carefully embraced the omega.
"Yeah, pregnancy isn't treating Ricky well," Gyuvin shared,.
Hao nodded understandingly. "How's the baby boy?" Gyuvin asked, trying to steer the conversation towards a lighter topic.
Hao's face lit up with a warm smile. "He's doing fine. We are running out of time to choose his name," he said, his hands lovingly cradling his bump.
"Can I touch?" Gyuvin asked, his eyes reflecting the awe and wonder he felt.
Hao nodded, allowing Gyuvin to gently place his hand on the bump. “Whoa! He is a strong kicker” Gyuvin said pulling his hand away, “Yeah, tell me about it, but its worse when he decides to seat in my bladder. I dont know what I would do without Hanbin”
"You are going back right?" Hao inquired,
Gyuvin nodded affirmatively. "Yeah, I just wanted to say hi to Matthew and Jiwoong before I leave," he said, scanning the room for the two.
"They haven't arrived yet. It's okay, I will send them your greetings," Hao offered, resting his hand on his protruding stomach.
Grateful for Hao's understanding, Gyuvin hugged him once more before departing. Hearing children’s laughter fade away slowly.
Upon arriving at their estate, Gyuvin hurried to their bedroom, where he found Ricky sleeping. Even in sleep, Ricky's face bore an expression of stress, his brows slightly furrowed. Gyuvin's heart clenched at the sight; Ricky looked utterly exhausted, the toll of the pregnancy evident.
"Did he take his meds?" Gyuvin asked one of the maids anxiously.
"Yes, sir, he took them and then went to sleep," the maid replied, her voice laced with respect and concern.
Gyuvin nodded in relief, silently thanking the maid before she quietly exited the room. He moved closer to the bed, his eyes tenderly tracing Ricky's features. Reaching for the anti-stretch cream on the marble nightstand, Gyuvin gently began to apply it to Ricky's small bump. His touch was filled with love and care, mindful not to disturb Ricky's much-needed rest.
As he softly rubbed the cream into the skin, Gyuvin whispered quietly, "Don't worry, you are going to be so loved."
The next morning found Gyuvin immersed in paperwork for the law firm he owned. The firm, a prestigious entity known for its excellence and integrity, demanded a considerable amount of his attention, but Gyuvin was grateful for the economic stability it provided. In times like these, when Ricky's health and their unborn child's wellbeing were paramount, the financial security afforded them peace of mind and the ability to focus on family matters without undue stress.
Ricky, affected by the pregnancy, tended to sleep late these days. Gyuvin was entirely understanding of this, knowing that rest was crucial for both Ricky and the baby. However, that day was significant; they had a medical appointment scheduled to check on the baby's progress, an event that Gyuvin had been looking forward to with a mixture of anticipation and anxiety.
At 11 am, Gyuvin approached Ricky's bed gently, not wanting to startle him. "Hey love, we have an appointment today," he said softly, watching as Ricky slowly stirred from sleep.
Ricky took his time waking up, his eyes opening grumpily. Instead of getting up immediately, he laid his head on Gyuvin's lap, seeking comfort and warmth in the familiar presence of his husband.
"Ya, Kim Ricky! We have an appointment today," Gyuvin said in a mock stern tone, trying to infuse a bit of light-heartedness into the moment. Ricky responded with a groan,
"You dress me up," Ricky mumbled, still clinging to the comfort of their bed.
Gyuvin sighed, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips despite the situation. "You're going to have to let go of me first," he pointed out,
Ricky shook his head, reluctant to part from the warmth and security of Gyuvin's embrace. The simple task of getting ready for the day turned into an endeavor that took more than an hour.
Finally ready, they headed out, though not as promptly as they had intended. They arrived late at the upscale clinic. As they entered the clinic, Gyuvin's hand found Ricky's, their fingers intertwined.
Fortunately, despite their tardiness, Gyuvin and Ricky were quickly attended to at the clinic. The routine of the ultrasound began with the application of cold gel on Ricky's small bump, a sensation that made Ricky flinch slightly.
As the doctor maneuvered the ultrasound probe, the image of their baby appeared on the monitor, a moment always filled with awe and emotion for both of them. "There it is," the doctor said, but her expression soon turned to one of concern, causing a ripple of anxiety to pass between Gyuvin and Ricky.
"Is there anything wrong?" Gyuvin asked, his voice tense with worry.
The doctor hesitated before responding. "Yes, there's an issue that I've noticed," she explained, detailing the concern without alarming them. "It is a bit worrying, and a specialist will need to take a look at it," she continued,
"I'm sorry," Ricky murmured,
"Don't worry, it's okay," Gyuvin reassured him, offering a comforting scent to ease Ricky's distress.
A few minutes later, they were escorted to the room where the main specialist was waiting. She was reviewing her notes, but greeted them with a warm, reassuring smile. "Is there anything we can add to the notes before I give my conclusions?" she inquired, her gaze resting on the couple.
Gyuvin spoke up. "He has been feeling very nauseous. I was wondering if we could have a stronger medication," he said, his concern for Ricky evident in his voice.
The specialist nodded, making a note of it on her clipboard. "Anything else?" she asked, turning her attention to Ricky.
Ricky exchanged a worried look with Gyuvin before speaking up. "I've been feeling pain in my chest and shortness of breath," he admitted, rubbing his chest
The doctor nodded, making further notes on her clipboard.
The specialist took a moment to assess the information, her expression thoughtful yet reassuring. "Well, your blood results from last week just arrived," she began, opening the folder. "I've reviewed the results of the tests and the ultrasound, and there are a few concerns that we need to address."
"The ultrasound has revealed a concerning issue," she stated. "There's evidence of restricted growth in the fetus, which could be indicative of several complications. This is quite worrying and will require close monitoring and possibly intervention."
Gyuvin's grip on Ricky's hand tightened while the specialist continued, "Additionally, Ricky, your recent weight measurements are lower than we'd like to see at this stage in your pregnancy. This, coupled with the baby's restricted growth, is a cause for concern."
Gyuvin offered a reassuring squeeze of his hand, trying to provide a semblance of comfort amidst the troubling news feeling a surge of protectiveness, wishing he could shield Ricky from all this.
"Your blood tests indicate a significant degree of anemia," she said, turning her attention to Ricky. "This is likely contributing to your fatigue and could be affecting the baby's growth. We need to address this immediately."
"We've also discovered arrhythmias in your heart rhythm, Ricky. This is a serious condition that can have implications for both you and the baby, especially considering your symptoms of chest pain and shortness of breath."
Gyuvin could feel Ricky trembling slightly, overwhelmed by the barrage of concerning news. He wrapped an arm around Ricky, pulling him close and trying to scent him, to calm the omega down.
"We'll need to develop a comprehensive treatment plan immediately," the specialist concluded. "This will involve medication adjustments, nutritional interventions, and possibly more frequent monitoring or hospitalization. I will give you a medical receipt"
They passed by the pharmacy on their way out, Gyuvin guided Ricky through the clinic, a hand on ricky’s waist. He helped ricky into the car and put the new meds on the trunk
"Wanna go the mall for some retail therapy?" he asked once he was on the driver’s seat. "I just wanna rest," he said, his gaze fixed on the window, lost in thought.
Ricky's scent. The normally sweet strawberry aroma with milky notes due to the pregnancy had begun to take on a sour, almost burnt quality. It was a subtle but telling sign of the stress and strain.
"Let's do a movie night! And I'll let you dress me up and do my makeup."
"Really?"
Gyuvin nodded affirmatively "Just say you love me, Kim Ricky,"
Ricky rolled his eyes but chuckled, the sound like music to Gyuvin's ears. "I do,"
"Say it properly," Gyuvin insisted playfully, his eyes sparkling with affection.
"I love you, Kim Gyuvin," Ricky replied in mocking tone
Once they arrived home, Gyuvin assisted Ricky out of the car with the utmost care, mindful of his fragile state and called the maids to place the new medications and scans on their trunk.
Inside, as promised, Gyuvin sat patiently, a willing participant in Ricky's makeover session. Ricky's hands, though slightly trembling, moved with a familiar skill as he selected cosmetics and began to work on Gyuvin's face.
"You're going to make me the prettiest alpha in town, aren't you?"
Ricky laughed, "Oh, absolutely. Wait till I'm done with you," playful yet affectionate.
With each brush stroke, the tension in Ricky's body seemed to lessen. The act of doing something so normal, so everyday, was a balm to their frayed nerves. Gyuvin watched Ricky through the mirror, his heart swelling with love for this incredible man who was facing such challenges with such bravery.
After the makeup session, they settled down on the movie room, Gyuvin wrapped his arm around Ricky, pulling him close. They opened their netflix account and Ricky chose Sweet Home.
Halfway through the first episode, Gyuvin, still adorned with the makeup Ricky had applied earlier, struck a mock-serious pose. "Don't I look like Song Kang?" he asked, his eyes twinkling with mirth.
Ricky glanced at him, a playful smirk dancing on his lips. "Maybe with plastic surgery," he quipped,
"Hey, that hurt!" Gyuvin feigned offense, placing a hand over his heart dramatically.
"Oh, come on, you know you're handsome. You don't need to be a movie star to be my star."
Gyuvin couldn't help but smile at that. "So, I'm your star, huh? Does that mean you're my biggest fan?"
"Always," Ricky replied, his voice soft but filled with sincerity. "Even if you do look a little ridiculous right now."
"Ridiculous? This is high fashion, my dear," Gyuvin said, striking another exaggerated pose.
Ricky snorted. "High fashion? More like a clown escaped from the circus."
Gyuvin pretended to be wounded, clutching his chest again. "My own husband, calling me a clown. How will I ever recover from this betrayal?"
"Maybe with some ice cream?" Ricky suggested, his eyes sparkling with humor.
"Ah, so bribery is the way to my heart," Gyuvin played along. "Well, I can't say no to ice cream. But only if you join me."
"Deal," Ricky agreed, his smile widening.
As the intro for the second episode rolled, Gyuvin saw RIcky’s eyelids grew heavy, as Ricky he to keep his eyes open.
"You're falling asleep, aren't you?" Gyuvin whispered, a soft smile on his lips.
Ricky blinked slowly, trying to focus. "No, no, I'm watching," he murmured, though his voice was tinged with sleepiness.
Gyuvin chuckled quietly. "It's okay to sleep, love. You need the rest."
"I want to spend time with you..." Ricky's words trailed off,
"We are spending time together," Gyuvin reassured him gently. "Sleeping next to each other counts too. I'm here."
Ricky nodded slightly, his resistance fading. "Stay with me?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Always," Gyuvin replied, his tone filled with unwavering affection.
Within minutes, Ricky's breathing deepened, signaling that he had fallen asleep. Gyuvin continued to watch the movie, though his attention was more on the man sleeping beside him. He observed Ricky's peaceful face, a stark contrast to the stress and worry that had etched his features earlier. It was moments like this that Gyuvin cherished the most, where he could watch over Ricky, ensuring his comfort and peace.
As the movie ended, Gyuvin didn't move, not wanting to disturb Ricky's much-needed rest. He remained still, his arm around Ricky, a silent guardian in the quiet of the night.
Gyuvin and Ricky were nestled together on the sofa, their laptop open in front of them. The screen displayed an array of colorful plushies from an online store, each one cuter than the last. They were in search of the perfect toys for their baby.
"How about this one?" Gyuvin pointed at a plushie shaped like a smiling sun. "It's bright and cheerful."
Ricky leaned in, examining the toy. "It's cute, but what about this one?" He scrolled to a plushie shaped like a little moon with a sleepy face. "You have bad taste, this one is better"
They continued to browse when Ricky's expression changed. He winced, his hand instinctively going to his abdomen. "Ow," he muttered, a frown creasing his forehead.
Gyuvin's smile faded, replaced by concern. "What's wrong? Are you okay?"
Ricky's face contorted in pain, the discomfort escalating rapidly. "It hurts," he gasped, the pain in his abdomen intensifying.
Alarmed, Gyuvin quickly closed the laptop and moved closer to Ricky. "Where does it hurt? How bad is it?"
Ricky struggled to find the words, his breathing quickening as the pain surged. "My stomach, it's really sharp. It's... it's really bad," he managed to say between clenched teeth.
Gyuvin's heart raced, fear and worry gripping him. He knew they needed to act fast. "We need to get you to the hospital, now,"
Gyuvin swept Ricky off his feet carrying him as they made their way to the car. Gyuvin drove like a madman as he heard Ricky's pained gasps on the back. He had instructed the maids to call the clinic and when they arrived a group of nurses wheeled Ricky away from him, he followed them until the doors of the emergency room closed in front of him.
He paced around for what felt like an eternity, until a nurse approached him.
"Mr. Kim?"
"Yes, that's me. How is he? How is Ricky?"
The nurse sighed softly, choosing her words carefully. "The doctors are preparing for the possibility of an early delivery. We need to be ready for any outcome"
Gyuvin's heart sank at the words. "Early... But he's only in his sixth month," he stammered,
"Yes, it's very early, and given Ricky's current physical condition and weak immune system, it's quite risky," the nurse explained. "The baby is severely underdeveloped, and we're also concerned about the strain on Ricky's heart. We're administering medication to try and halt the labor, but it's a delicate situation. The doctors are doing their best," she reassured him, her voice calm but serious.
Gyuvin ran his hands through his hair, feeling a sense of despair. "Please, just... make sure they're both safe. They're everything to me," he said, his voice cracking with emotion as he put both his hands on the nurse’s shoulders, who quickly shoved them away.
"We understand, and we're doing everything possible. I'll keep you updated as we know more."
As the nurse left to attend to her duties, Gyuvin slumped into a chair, his mind racing with fear and worry. The joy of expecting their child, the playful moments they shared earlier, now seemed distant memories as they faced this critical situation.
Gyuvin closed his eyes, sending silent prayers and thoughts of strength to Ricky and their baby. In this moment of uncertainty, his love and hope were the only anchors he had, ye, overwhelmed by the gravity of the situation, felt tears welling up in his eyes. He cried quietly, his thoughts consumed with worry for Ricky and their unborn child. He imagined Ricky calling him crybaby alpha and he cried even harder. Each minute felt like an eternity, the ticking of the clock echoing loudly in the tense silence of the room.
After some time, the nurse returned, Gyuvin immediately stood up, wiping away his tears, his heart pounding with apprehension.
"We've managed to stop the premature labor," she began, “While we've successfully halted the labor for now, the situation remains very precarious. Ricky is exhausted, and the strain on his body is significant. The baby is still in a critical state, especially due to being severely underdeveloped."
"Can I see him? Is he awake?" he asked, his voice trembling slightly.
"He's resting now. We've given him something to help with the pain and to keep him stable," she explained. "You can see him, but please be prepared; he's very weak."
Gyuvin nodded, his throat tight with emotion. Following the nurse, he entered Ricky's room, where he found his husband lying in bed, looking pale and fragile, yet thankfully at peace. Gyuvin approached slowly, taking Ricky's hand in his, careful not to disturb him.
Sitting by Ricky's bedside, he hoping that on some level, Ricky could hear him and feel his presence “You can do it, our little one is a fighter just like you”
The nurse finally had to drag him away so he could speak with the doctor in his office.
"Ricky needs to be on strict bed rest, any form of stress or physical strain could trigger the onset of labor again. We need to do everything we can to prevent that."
Gyuvin nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "Of course, whatever it takes," he replied, his voice firm with resolve.
The doctor went on to explain the next steps. "We're going to intervene medically to help the baby develop as much as possible in the womb. This will include a series of treatments and possibly medication for Ricky to support the baby's growth."
Gyuvin felt a mix of hope and apprehension at this news. "But that will help, right? It will make things better for the baby?" he asked, seeking some assurance.
The doctor offered a cautious nod. "It's our best course of action under the circumstances. But you need to understand, the risk of premature labor is still very high, especially if Ricky is under stress. We need to keep him as relaxed and calm as possible."
"We'll be here every step of the way," the doctor assured him. "Our team is dedicated to ensuring the best possible outcome for Ricky and the baby."
A week later, after a period marked by careful monitoring and constant medical attention, Ricky was finally deemed stable enough to be released from the hospital.
On the day of Ricky's discharge, Gyuvin arrived at the hospital early, eager to bring his wife home. The nurses and doctors provided detailed instructions and prescriptions for Ricky's care, emphasizing the importance of bed rest and stress avoidance.
As Ricky was wheeled out of the hospital room, Gyuvin walked beside him, a protective presence. Ricky looked frail but relieved to be leaving the hospital. His smile, though weak, was a sign of his resilience and determination.
Once they were in their car and heading home, Gyuvin glanced over at Ricky, "It's good to be taking you home," he said softly.
Ricky nodded, leaning back against the seat. "I just want to be in our own bed, in our own space," he replied, his voice a whisper of its usual strength.
Back home, Gyuvin had prepared everything to ensure Ricky's comfort and safety. The bedroom was rearranged to accommodate Ricky's need for rest, with essentials within easy reach and a calm, soothing atmosphere.
As he helped Ricky into bed, Gyuvin felt a renewed sense of purpose.
"Ow, Gyuvin!" Ricky suddenly exclaimed, clutching his stomach and wincing as if in pain.
Gyuvin rushed to Ricky's side in a panic. "What's wrong? Are you okay?" he asked, his voice laced with immediate concern.
Ricky struggled to keep a straight face as he watched Gyuvin's reaction. "It hurts...," he feigned a grimace, but then his expression shifted to a mischievous grin. "Gotcha!"
Gyuvin, who had been poised to call for emergency help, paused in disbelief. The realization that it was a prank slowly sank in. Relief washed over him, quickly followed by a mix of emotions. He let out a deep breath he hadn’t realized he was holding and then, to Ricky's surprise, tears started to well up in his eyes.
Ricky's smile faded, replaced by a look of concern. "Hey, I was just joking. I didn't mean to upset you," he said softly, reaching out to touch Gyuvin's hand.
Gyuvin sat down beside Ricky, trying to compose himself. "I know you were joking," he said, his voice trembling slightly. "It's just... everything that's happened, the fear of losing you and the baby, it's been a lot. I can't even think about something happening to you without..."
Ricky's expression softened, filled with regret and understanding. "I'm sorry, Gyuvin. I didn't think. I just wanted to lighten the mood."
Gyuvin shook his head, wiping away his tears. "It's okay. I know you didn't mean any harm. It's just been a really tough time."
Ricky took Gyuvin's hand in his, squeezing it gently. "I promise, no more pranks like that. I didn’t realize how much it would affect you."
Gyuvin managed a small smile, the love and concern in Ricky's eyes bringing him a sense of comfort. "Let's just focus on keeping you and the baby healthy, okay?"
Ricky nodded,
Throughout the week Gyuvin gleefully spent time in bed with ricky just lying beside him and speaking to the bump hoping it would grow, he would let ricky rest on his shoulder and feed him soft meals. But a week later Gyuvin had reluctantly stepped out of the house to take care of some essential paperwork related to his law firm. Although he tried to handle as much as he could remotely, some matters required his physical presence. He left only after ensuring Ricky was comfortable and the maids were well-instructed on how to care for him.
While he was in the midst of filling out the necessary forms, his phone rang. Seeing the home number flash on the screen, his heart immediately sank with apprehension. He answered the call quickly, his voice tense. "Hello?"
It was one of the maids, her voice laced with panic. "Mr. Kim, it's Ricky. He suddenly started experiencing extreme pain. We've called an ambulance. They're on their way now."
The words hit Gyuvin like a physical blow. "I'm on my way back. Stay with him, please, and keep me updated," he said, his voice a mix of urgency and fear.
Without a second thought, Gyuvin abandoned the paperwork and rushed out. Every second felt agonizingly long as he drove back home. The streets seemed to stretch endlessly, and every red light was a test of his patience.
Upon arriving at their home, the ambulance was already there. Gyuvin's heart pounded as he rushed inside, where he found Ricky being attended to by paramedics. Ricky looked pale and in pain, but his eyes found Gyuvin's, a silent plea for reassurance in his gaze.
Gyuvin moved to Ricky's side, taking his hand. "I'm here, love. You're going to be okay," he whispered, trying to offer comfort despite his own fear.
The paramedics quickly briefed Gyuvin on Ricky's condition as they prepared to transport him to the clinic. Gyuvin followed them out, his mind a whirlwind of fear and hope.
In the ambulance, Gyuvin held Ricky's hand tightly, whispering words of love and encouragement. He tried to stay strong for Ricky, to be the pillar of support he needed, but inside, he was battling his own fears and praying for their safety.
As the ambulance siren wailed through the streets, racing towards the hospital, Gyuvin's thoughts were solely focused on Ricky and their baby. In this moment of crisis, their love and bond were the only certainties he could cling to, the only light in the midst of uncertainty and fear.
In the tense atmosphere of the hospital's emergency room waiting area, Gyuvin found himself pacing back and forth, each step echoing his escalating worry. The stark, fluorescent lights overhead did little to comfort his troubled thoughts. His eyes were fixed on the doors leading to the treatment areas, willing them to open with news. He had been there just a week ago, how cruel could the world be?
Finally, a nurse approached him, "I'm so sorry, Mr. Kim," the nurse began, her voice gentle but filled with sorrow. "The baby passed away shortly after the delivery."
The words struck Gyuvin like a physical blow. The loss of their child, a life so anticipated and already so loved, was a devastating reality to face. He felt a hollow ache in his chest, a mixture of grief and disbelief.
"And Ricky?" Gyuvin managed to ask, his voice barely audible, dreading the answer yet needing to know.
The nurse hesitated, her next words coming with evident difficulty. "Ricky is alive, but he's in a coma. His body has been through a tremendous ordeal, and he's not responding at the moment. We're doing everything we can to stabilize him."
Gyuvin's world seemed to crumble around him. The loss of their child and Ricky's critical state were more than he could bear. He felt a numbness spreading through him, a defense against the overwhelming tide of emotions threatening to engulf him.
"Can I... Can I see them?" he asked, his voice breaking, the need to be close to Ricky and their child overpowering.
The nurse nodded. "Of course. Follow me."
Gyuvin was led to where Ricky lay, surrounded by monitors and machines. He looked so fragile, so distant, lost in the depths of his coma. Gyuvin approached the bedside, his steps heavy with grief. He took Ricky's hand, the familiar warmth now replaced by a chilling stillness.
Beside Ricky was their baby, so small and still. Gyuvin's heart ached as he looked at his child, a life that had barely begun. Tears streamed down his face as he stood between them, a silent sentinel of love and loss.
The room was filled with the beeping of machines and the soft hum of medical equipment, but to Gyuvin, it felt like a void, echoing with the enormity of his loss. He stood there, holding onto Ricky's hand, a silent prayer on his lips for Ricky to come back to him, to not leave him alone in this world of pain and loss.
A week after the tragic events, Ricky finally showed signs of regaining consciousness. Gyuvin, who had been keeping a constant vigil by Ricky's side, noticed the subtle changes first. Ricky's eyelids fluttered, and he began to stir, his movements weak but purposeful.
As Ricky's eyes opened, confusion and disorientation were evident in his gaze. He looked around, his eyes searching, and then fixed on Gyuvin. "The baby... our baby, where is he? I need to see him," Ricky's voice was frail,
Gyuvin's heart broke anew at the question. The reality of their loss was a heavy burden he now had to share with Ricky. "Ricky, love, you need to rest. You've been very ill," Gyuvin tried to soothe him, gently holding his hand.
But Ricky's confusion quickly turned to panic. "No, no, I need to see our baby now!" His voice grew more agitated, and he began to move his arms, trying to pull at the IV lines and other medical attachments.
Gyuvin, alarmed by Ricky's distress, tried to calm him, holding his hands to prevent him from hurting himself. "Ricky, please, you need to stay still. You're in the hospital. You've been very sick."
Ricky, however, was beyond reason, his mind clouded by the combination of medication, pain, and the desperate need to see his child. His movements became more frantic, and he tried to sit up, disregarding his physical pain and the needles connected to his arms.
Seeing the situation escalating, the medical staff quickly intervened. One of the nurses hurried to administer a sedative to help calm Ricky and prevent him from causing any harm to himself.
As the sedative took effect, Ricky's movements slowed, and his eyes began to close, but not before they filled with tears, the reality of their situation beginning to dawn on him.
Gyuvin stood by, a silent witness to the heart-wrenching scene, tears streaming down his own face. He held Ricky's hand until he was assured that Ricky was stable and asleep.
When Ricky awoke again, the effects of the sedative still lingered, casting a haze over his consciousness. But even through the fog of medication, the raw, instinctual need to know about his baby pierced through.
Gyuvin, sitting by his side, braced himself as Ricky's eyes fluttered open. Ricky's voice was weak, heavily slurred from the sedation, but the urgency and desperation were unmistakable. "Our baby... please, I need to know... our baby..."
Gyuvin took Ricky's hand, holding it tightly, a well of sorrow in his eyes. He knew there was no easy way to convey the heartbreaking truth. "Ricky, our baby... he didn't make it. I'm so, so sorry," Gyuvin's voice broke as he spoke the words, each one heavier than the last.
Tears began to roll down his cheeks, a grief that words could not express. His sobs were muffled, a raw expression of pain and loss that filled the room subdued by medication.
Gyuvin leaned in, gently wiping away Ricky's tears, his own eyes brimming with sorrow. "I'm here, Ricky. I'm here with you," he whispered,
Ricky cried himself back into a fitful sleep, Gyuvin remained, holding his hand, lost in his own thoughts of what could have been.
In the days following the devastating news, Ricky remained in a state of profound grief and shock. He was awake, yet his presence felt distant, as if part of him was lost in a place far beyond reach. He spent hours staring blankly at nothing, unresponsive to the world around him. The vibrancy and energy that once defined him seemed to have faded into a deep, impenetrable silence.
Gyuvin, ever-present by his side, tried his best to reach Ricky, to bring him back from the depths of his despair. "Ricky, love, please talk to me. I'm here for you," he would say gently, but his words seemed to fall on deaf ears.
Ricky neither spoke nor showed any interest in eating, his body and spirit worn down by the weight of his loss. Gyuvin would sit with him, holding his hand, offering words of love and encouragement, but the response he so desperately hoped for never came.
Concerned and feeling helpless, Gyuvin approached the medical staff. "Is there... is there any chance I could take him home? Maybe being in a familiar environment, being home... it might help him," he suggested, his voice laden with hope and desperation.
The doctors considered his request carefully. "It's not uncommon for patients to shut down emotionally after a trauma like this," one of them explained. "Being in a comfortable, familiar setting could potentially aid in his recovery. But you need to understand, it won't be easy. He'll need constant care and emotional support."
Gyuvin nodded emphatically. "I'll do whatever it takes. I just want to help him, to bring him back."
Arrangements were made for Ricky's discharge, with clear instructions for his care at home. Gyuvin prepared their home, creating a peaceful and comforting space where he hoped Ricky could begin to heal.
"We're going home, Ricky. I'm going to take care of you. We'll get through this together."
The drive home was quiet, the silence a stark contrast to the dreams and plans they once shared.
In their home, surrounded by memories of happier times, Gyuvin hoped that the familiar sights and sounds would slowly awaken something in Ricky, a desire to speak, to engage, to begin the long process of healing. He would be there every step of the way, a steadfast presence in the journey back from the depths of their shared sorrow but as the months passed, Ricky's physical condition began to deteriorate rapidly. His lack of interest in eating or engaging with the world around him took a visible toll on his body. He became emaciated, a shadow of his former self, and this physical decline only added to the heavy burden of worry that Gyuvin carried.
Gyuvin, despite feeling emotionally drained, remained steadfast in his care for Ricky. He continued to talk to him, maintaining a one-sided conversation in the hope that his voice might somehow reach Ricky and bring him back.
One day, recognizing the need to maintain Ricky's basic hygiene, Gyuvin prepared for a task that was both necessary and heartbreakingly intimate. "Ricky, I am going to shower you, okay?" he said softly, his voice filled with a mix of tenderness and sadness. "It's important to keep you clean and comfortable."
There was no response from Ricky, no acknowledgment of Gyuvin's words or actions. Gyuvin gently helped Ricky out of bed, supporting his frail body with utmost care. He talked to Ricky throughout the process, explaining each step as if hoping for some understanding, some sign that Ricky was still with him in spirit.
As he bathed Ricky, Gyuvin's heart ached. He missed the interaction, the shared smiles, and laughter that once accompanied such intimate moments. "Remember how we used to fight for the shower in the mornings?" Gyuvin tried to reminisce, his voice wavering. "You always liked the water hotter than I could stand."
After the shower, Gyuvin dried Ricky and dressed him in fresh clothes, all the while talking to him, sharing stories, and expressing his love and longing for the man who seemed so far away.
Returning Ricky to his bed, Gyuvin sat beside him, holding his hand, lost in thought. The silence in the room was overwhelming, filled with the unsaid words and unshed tears of a man holding onto a thread of hope in a seemingly hopeless situation.
Each morning, as he opened the curtains to let in the soft morning light, Gyuvin would say, "Good morning, Ricky. It's a beautiful day outside. Remember how we used to enjoy our morning lattes together on the balcony?" He'd pause, as if waiting for a response, before continuing, "I miss those mornings with you, love. I miss your laugh, your jokes... I miss us."
During meal times, Gyuvin tried to encourage Ricky to eat, bringing the food to Ricky's bed where he laid unmoving. "I made your favorite today, Ricky. Chicken, just the way you like it. It's important to eat something, love. Please try for me." He would gently try to feed Ricky, each refusal deepening the worry lines on his face.
At night, Gyuvin's conversations would often turn reflective. "Do you remember the night we watched that meteor shower? We stayed up the whole night, just talking and dreaming. I wish we could have more nights like that, Ricky. I wish we could turn back time."
Sometimes, Gyuvin would share his own fears and hopes, his voice barely above a whisper. "I'm trying to be strong for both of us, but it's hard, Ricky. It's hard not seeing you smile, not hearing your voice. But I believe in us. I believe you'll come back to me. We've been through so much... this can't be the end of our story."
Even in his moments of despair, Gyuvin tried to infuse a bit of humor, recalling happier times. "Remember when you tried to bake a cake and it ended up looking like a pancake? I've never laughed so hard. I'd give anything to have another one of your pancake-cakes right now."
Gyuvin's words, filled with love, longing, and memories of better times, filled the room day after day. He clung to the hope that these one-sided conversations were not in vain, that somewhere within, Ricky could hear him and feel the love that Gyuvin poured into every word. Each day, he waited for a sign, a response, a glimpse of the Ricky he knew and loved, holding onto the belief that love could heal even the deepest of wounds.
The physical changes in Ricky's condition only added to the heartache and helplessness that Gyuvin felt. As he cared for Ricky, he noticed more alarming signs – Ricky's hair, once thick and healthy, began to fall out in clumps, a stark and distressing reminder of his declining health. Gyuvin would gently run his fingers through Ricky's hair, his heart sinking each time he pulled away to find strands coming with them.
One day, as he held Ricky's hand, he noticed a new development – a tremor in Ricky's fingers, slight but unmistakable. Gyuvin's eyes filled with tears as he watched the tremble, a physical manifestation of the turmoil that Ricky's body was going through.
Ricky's skin, which he had always taken pride in, the pale, milky complexion that Gyuvin had so often admired and caressed, now took on a dry, yellowish hue. It was another visible sign of his deteriorating condition, and each change was a blow to Gyuvin, a painful reminder of the relentless nature of their situation.
Sitting beside Ricky, Gyuvin allowed himself to cry, the tears flowing freely in the privacy of their room. "Ricky, I don't know how to help you," he whispered through his sobs. "I'm trying so hard, but I feel like I'm losing you more and more each day. Please, you have to fight. You have to come back to me."
He continued to talk, even through his tears, his voice laden with emotion. "I miss you so much. I miss the way you'd fuss over your hair, the way you cared about your skin, your fashion sense. I miss the little things, Ricky, the everyday things that made us 'us'."
The arrival of a therapist initially brought a glimmer of hope to Gyuvin. He hoped that a professional might be able to reach Ricky in ways he could not, to break through the wall of grief and trauma that had enveloped him. Each day, the therapist would come and try to engage Ricky, speaking to him, asking questions, and offering words of encouragement and support.
But Ricky remained unresponsive, his gaze fixed on some unseen point, his silence unbroken. Despite the therapist's best efforts and expertise, there was no breakthrough, no sign of Ricky emerging from his deep, internal retreat. Eventually, the therapist had to concede that their efforts were not bearing fruit, and the visits ceased.
This development was a crushing blow to Gyuvin. He had clung to the hope that professional intervention might make a difference. The day the therapist stopped coming, Gyuvin sat by Ricky's side, his emotions overwhelming him. He buried his face into Ricky's unresponsive form, his body wracked with sobs. "I don't know what else to do, Ricky. I'm losing you, and I can't bear it," he cried, his voice muffled in the stillness of the room.
In his desperate attempts to care for Ricky, Gyuvin followed every piece of advice he could find. He had read about the importance of keeping malnourished patients warm, as their bodies often struggle to regulate temperature. He wrapped Ricky in blankets, hoping to provide warmth and comfort, but Ricky's body always felt cold to the touch, a chilling reminder of his fragile state.
Gyuvin talked to Ricky about the warmth, both physical and emotional, that he was trying to provide. "I've put on another blanket, love. I want you to be warm, to feel safe. I wish I could take you into my arms and make everything okay," he would say, his voice a mixture of tenderness and sadness.
Despite the challenges and the growing sense of despair, Gyuvin refused to give up. He continued to care for Ricky with gentle dedication, talking to him, holding his hand, and hoping for a miracle.
In his profound grief and desperation to connect with Ricky, Gyuvin decided to embrace him, longing for any semblance of the physical closeness they once shared. As he carefully wrapped his arms around Ricky's frail form, he was painfully reminded of how much Ricky had changed. The once strong and vibrant man now felt skeletal in his arms, fragile to the point where Gyuvin feared causing harm.
Gyuvin's heart broke all over again as he held Ricky, his tears flowing freely. "Ricky, I miss you so much," he whispered, his voice choked with emotion. "I miss holding you, feeling you next to me. This isn't how it was supposed to be."
As he hugged Ricky, he felt an involuntary twitch in Ricky's body, a startling reminder of Ricky's precarious state. Gyuvin flinched slightly, his heart racing with a mix of worry and hope. "Did you feel that? Are you trying to tell me something, love?" he asked, a flicker of hope igniting in his heart.
But there was no conscious response from Ricky, just the occasional, reflexive twitch that served to remind Gyuvin of the complex, troubled state Ricky was in. Gyuvin gently laid Ricky back down, taking care not to cause any discomfort.
Sitting by Ricky's side, Gyuvin took his hand, holding it gently between his own. "I don't know if you can hear me, or feel this," he said, his voice soft and trembling. "But I'm here, Ricky. I'm not going anywhere. I'll keep holding on, for both of us."
The room was filled with the sound of Gyuvin's quiet weeping, a stark contrast to the silent, motionless form of Ricky. Gyuvin stayed like that for a long time, holding Ricky's hand, lost in memories of better days and in prayers for a return to those times.
Each day, Gyuvin faced the harrowing reality of Ricky's condition, but he continued to care for him with unwavering love and devotion. In his heart, he held onto a flicker of hope that Ricky would one day return to him, that they would find a way to heal together from the profound loss and pain that had engulfed their lives.
The mounting fear and uncertainty about Ricky's condition drove Gyuvin to seek every possible means to ensure his safety and well-being. Worried that Ricky might slip away silently in his sleep, Gyuvin acquired a heart monitor. He set it up next to Ricky's bed, the soft beeping a constant, albeit small, reassurance that Ricky's heart was still beating, that he was still fighting.
The heart monitor became both a comfort and a source of anxiety for Gyuvin. He found himself constantly checking it, the rhythmic beeping punctuating the heavy silence of their room. Night after night, he lay awake, watching the monitor's lights and listening to its sounds, each beep a reminder of the fragility of the situation.
Desperate for any solution, Gyuvin approached the doctors again, his voice laden with a mix of hope and desperation. "Isn't there anything we can do to help him? Any treatment, therapy, anything at all?" he implored.
The doctors, sympathetic to Gyuvin's plight, patiently explained the situation. "We understand your concern and your desire to help Ricky. Right now, the best thing we can do is continue to provide supportive care. His body and mind need time to heal," one doctor said.
"But it's been so long, and he's not showing any signs of improvement. Isn't there anything more proactive we can try?" Gyuvin pressed, unwilling to accept that this was all they could do.
The doctors shared a look, the kind that spoke of professional understanding and human empathy. "We can look into additional therapies and consult with specialists in post-traumatic care. However, we have to be realistic about the outcomes. Recovery in such cases can be unpredictable."
Gyuvin nodded, a mix of gratitude and disappointment in his eyes. "Please, anything you can do. I just... I can't lose him."
Returning to Ricky's side, Gyuvin continued to talk to him, holding his hand, and occasionally glancing at the heart monitor. "I'm trying to find a way to help you, Ricky. I'm not giving up," he would say, his voice a steady stream of hope and determination in the quiet room.
Gyuvin's question to the doctors about force-feeding Ricky stemmed from his growing concern over Ricky's refusal to eat and the subsequent deterioration of his physical health. Watching Ricky grow weaker each day was an unbearable sight for Gyuvin, and he was desperate to find any means to help improve his condition.
One of the doctors responded to Gyuvin's query with a blend of professional caution and empathy. "We understand your concern about Ricky's nutrition. However, force-feeding someone who is unresponsive can be complicated and potentially harmful. It's important to consider the risks, such as aspiration, which can occur if food enters the lungs."
Gyuvin listened, his expression a mix of frustration and fear. "But there has to be something we can do. He's just wasting away," he implored, the desperation in his voice evident.
The doctor nodded, understanding Gyuvin's distress. "We can consider alternative methods of providing nutrition, such as a nasogastric tube or IV nutrition. These are ways to ensure that Ricky receives the necessary nutrients without the risks associated with force-feeding."
Gyuvin felt a small sense of relief at this suggestion. "Yes, let's do that. Whatever will help him get stronger," he agreed, eager to grasp at any solution that might improve Ricky's condition.
The medical team moved forward with the plan to provide Ricky with nutritional support through medically supervised methods. Gyuvin was briefed on the process and what to expect. Despite the invasive nature of the procedures, he understood their necessity and was grateful for any action that could potentially aid in Ricky's recovery.
Despite the medical team's best efforts and Gyuvin's unwavering dedication, Ricky's body struggled to accept the treatments. The nutritional support, intended to bolster his strength and health, was met with complications. Ricky's body, weakened and unresponsive, did not react as hoped to the nasogastric tube or IV nutrition.
Gyuvin watched with a sinking heart as the medical staff encountered difficulties. They explained to him that in cases like Ricky's, where the patient is extremely weak and unresponsive, the body might not always tolerate such interventions well. This was a harsh reality to face, and it left Gyuvin feeling even more helpless and distraught.
"But there must be something more we can do. Isn't there any other way?" Gyuvin asked, clinging to hope.
The doctors shared a look of compassionate understanding before one replied, "We've tried the most viable options for Ricky’s condition. At this stage, our focus should remain on making him comfortable and monitoring his condition closely. We're dealing with a very delicate balance."
Gyuvin felt a profound sense of despair wash over him. He realized that despite their best efforts, Ricky's recovery was not something they could simply will into existence. It was a bitter pill to swallow, coming to terms with the fact that some aspects of healing were beyond their control.
He returned to Ricky's side, sitting quietly with him, his mind a tumult of emotions. Gyuvin continued to speak to Ricky, though his words were now tinged with a deep sadness. "I wish I could do more for you, Ricky. I wish I could take away all this pain and bring you back to me," he whispered, his voice breaking.
Day after day, Gyuvin kept his vigil, his presence a constant in the room filled with the beeps of machines and the hushed conversations of the medical staff. In the face of the unyielding reality, his conversations with Ricky became more about sharing his feelings, reminiscing about their past, and expressing his undying love and commitment.
In the quiet of their room, a room that once echoed with laughter and love, Gyuvin continued his diligent care for Ricky, though each day seemed to bring a new, heart-wrenching challenge. As he applied cream to Ricky's cold, unresponsive body, Gyuvin couldn't help but notice the new signs of his deterioration. The appearance of lanugo, a fine downy hair, was a body's response to severe weight loss. Ricky's nails had become brittle, and his extremities showed a concerning bluish tinge, indicating poor circulation. These physical changes were stark reminders that Ricky was teetering on the brink, his life hanging by a thread.
Tears streamed down Gyuvin's cheeks as he gently tended to Ricky, each movement a mix of care and sorrow. He looked into Ricky's eyes, once so full of warmth and expression, now blank and distant. Gyuvin's heart ached to see any glimmer of recognition, any sign that the man he loved was still there.
"I miss our baby too," Gyuvin whispered through his tears, his voice breaking with emotion. "I wish more than anything that things were different, that we could turn back time and be the family we dreamed of."
Gyuvin took Ricky's hand in his, holding it tenderly. "I don't know if you can hear me, Ricky, but I need you to know that you're not alone. I'm here, and I'm not leaving your side. Our baby will always be a part of us, and I'll hold onto that memory for both of us."
The room was silent, save for the soft beeping of the heart monitor and Gyuvin's quiet sobs. He continued to speak, sharing his deepest fears, his unfulfilled dreams, and his enduring love. "We were supposed to have a lifetime of memories to make, our little family... I can't believe this is where we are."
Gyuvin, gently placed his hand on Ricky's stomach, the place where their baby once grew. It was a gesture filled with memories and unfulfilled dreams, a silent tribute to the life they had so eagerly anticipated.
Speaking softly, Gyuvin's voice was heavy with emotion. "Our little one should have been here with us, Ricky. We had so many hopes, so many dreams..." His words trailed off as he fought back tears.
In that moment, something shifted. Ricky's eyes, which had been vacant and distant for so long, moved slowly towards Gyuvin. They were glazed, a reflection of his weakened state, but for the first time in what felt like an eternity, there was a flicker of something in them. It was as if, in some deep, unreachable part of himself, Ricky had heard Gyuvin's voice and felt his touch.
Gyuvin's breath hitched in his throat as he met Ricky's gaze. "Ricky? Can you see me? It's me, Gyuvin. I'm here with you," he said, a mix of hope and sorrow in his voice.
Ricky's response was minimal, his body ravaged by malnutrition and his mind still lost in the depths of his trauma, but the fact that he was looking at Gyuvin felt like a monumental shift. Tears streamed down Gyuvin's face as he held Ricky's gaze, cherishing this fragile connection.
"I miss them too, Ricky. I miss our baby every day," Gyuvin whispered, his voice quivering. "And I miss you, the real you. I'm right here, love. I'm not going anywhere."
The moment was brief, and soon Ricky's gaze drifted away again, but for Gyuvin, it was a glimmer of hope in the darkness, a sign that the bond they shared was still there, buried beneath the pain and grief.
Gyuvin stayed by Ricky's side, holding his hand and talking to him, buoyed by this small sign of awareness. He knew the road ahead was still fraught with uncertainty, but that brief moment of connection renewed his resolve to stay by Ricky's side, to continue supporting and loving him, no matter what the future held.
When the doctor explained that due to refeeding syndrome, introducing food at this stage could be dangerous and potentially fatal for Ricky. Gyuvin, struggled to come to terms with this bleak prognosis. Despite everything, he had held onto the belief that there was still a chance to bring Ricky back.
In the quiet of Ricky's room, Gyuvin continued his vigil, his care for Ricky tinged with a deep sense of grief and helplessness. "I wish there was more I could do for you, Ricky. I wish I could take away all this pain," he said softly, his voice breaking as he adjusted Ricky's pillows and blankets, trying to make him as comfortable as possible.
Although Ricky's physical response was limited, Gyuvin took solace in the fact that Ricky was now occasionally looking at him. It was a small comfort, but in the vast sea of despair, it was something to hold onto. "I'm here, love. Just look at me, let me know you're still here with me," Gyuvin would whisper, his eyes searching Ricky's for any sign of recognition or awareness.
Each day, Gyuvin talked to Ricky about their life together, about the happy memories they had shared, and about the love that had always been at the core of their relationship. "Do you remember our trip to the coast? The way the ocean sounded at night? I wish we could go back there, just be together in that peaceful place,"
Even as he grappled with the crushing reality of Ricky's condition, Gyuvin's love never wavered. He continued to be a constant presence at Ricky's side, holding his hand, speaking words of love, and cherishing the fleeting moments when Ricky's gaze met his.
The harsh reality of Ricky's condition was ever-present, and Gyuvin grappled with the growing understanding that Ricky's recovery might be beyond reach. Seeking any possibility of improvement, Gyuvin once again approached the doctors, his voice laden with a mix of desperation and fading hope.
"Is there truly nothing more we can do for him?" Gyuvin asked, holding onto the faintest hope for a different answer, for some overlooked solution.
The doctors, empathetic to Gyuvin's plight, responded with a somber honesty. "We understand how hard this is for you," one doctor said gently. "But medically, we've explored all viable options for Ricky's care. At this point, our focus is on keeping him comfortable and managing his symptoms. It's important to consider his quality of life."
Gyuvin listened, a deep sense of despair washing over him. The finality in the doctor's words left little room for the hope he had been clinging to. He nodded silently, the reality sinking in that the journey ahead was not about recovery, but about providing Ricky with as much comfort and love as possible in the time he had left.
Returning to Ricky's side, Gyuvin took his hand, holding it gently. "I'm still here with you, Ricky. No matter what, I'll be right here," he whispered, his voice thick with unshed tears. One day, as Gyuvin sat beside Ricky, holding his hand and speaking softly to him, something remarkable happened. Amidst the silence that had become their constant companion, Ricky's lips began to move slightly. It was subtle at first, almost imperceptible, but then a faint, stuttering sound emerged.
Gyuvin's heart leaped at the sound, and he leaned in closer, his eyes wide with a mix of hope and disbelief. "Ricky? Can you hear me? What is it, love?" he asked, his voice trembling with emotion.
Ricky's eyes were still distant, but he was clearly trying to communicate. His voice was weak, a mere whisper, and his words were slurred and hard to understand, but to Gyuvin, they were the most precious sounds he had heard in a long time.
"I... lo...," Ricky stuttered, struggling to form the words.
Gyuvin's eyes filled with tears as he gently encouraged Ricky. "It's okay, take your time. I'm here, I'm listening," he said softly, a rush of emotions flooding through him.
After a moment, Ricky managed to utter a few more syllables, his voice a shadow of its former self. "Love... you..." he whispered, each word a monumental effort.
Overwhelmed, Gyuvin bent down, his forehead touching Ricky's. "I love you too, so much, Ricky. I've missed hearing your voice," he whispered back, tears streaming down his face.
This brief exchange, though small and halting, was a profound moment for Gyuvin. It was a sign that Ricky was still there, still fighting in his own way. It reignited a spark of hope in Gyuvin's heart, a reminder that their connection remained strong, even in the face of overwhelming adversity.
Gyuvin continued to speak to Ricky, now with a renewed sense of hope and purpose. He recounted memories, shared his feelings, and expressed his unwavering love, all the while holding Ricky's hand and cherishing every moment of this fragile connection.
In the stillness of the night, as Gyuvin held Ricky in his arms, a moment of heartbreaking finality unfolded. The room, dimly lit and filled with the memories and love they had shared, became the silent witness to their final moments together.
Gyuvin, ever-present by Ricky's side, had fallen into a light, uneasy sleep, his arms wrapped protectively around Ricky. The soft, rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor had become a constant in their lives, a faint reminder of the fragile thread that Ricky was clinging to.
In the quiet hours of the night, that rhythm faltered. The steady beeping that had been a source of both comfort and anxiety for Gyuvin gave way to a long, unbroken tone. Gyuvin's eyes snapped open, his heart racing as he looked at the monitor, then down at Ricky in his arms.
Ricky's face was peaceful, the struggles and pain of the past weeks no longer etched on his features. Gyuvin gently shook Ricky, hoping for some response, but there was none. Ricky's weak heart had given its final beat, his journey ending in the arms of the man who had loved him unyieldingly.
Tears streamed down Gyuvin's face as the reality of the moment sank in. He held Ricky closer, a silent cry escaping his lips. "Ricky, my love, no... please, don't leave me," he whispered, his voice filled with a deep, raw sorrow.
The silence in the room was profound, broken only by Gyuvin's quiet sobs. He stayed there for a long time, holding Ricky, unwilling to let go, as if his embrace could somehow bridge the gap between life and death.
Eventually, Gyuvin placed a tender kiss on Ricky's forehead, a final gesture of love and farewell. He whispered his goodbyes, each word laden with the weight of his loss. "I'll always love you, Ricky. You'll always be a part of me."
As the realization of Ricky's passing settled in, Gyuvin was engulfed by a tidal wave of grief. He held Ricky's lifeless body in his arms, his tears flowing uncontrollably. The room, once filled with hope, love, and the struggle for life, was now a sanctuary of sorrow and final goodbyes.
Gyuvin's sobs echoed in the quiet room, each cry a testament to the depth of his loss. "You were my everything, " he cried out, his voice heavy with despair. The loss felt insurmountable, a chasm too deep and dark to ever escape from.
He felt a profound emptiness, a sense of being utterly alone, even though the world continued to move around him. The future they had planned, the life they had built together, was now a collection of shattered dreams, leaving Gyuvin adrift in a sea of grief.
As the night wore on, Gyuvin remained there, holding Ricky, unwilling to let go. In his embrace were the memories of their love, the laughter they shared, the challenges they overcame together, and the unspoken promises of a future that would never come.
Eventually, the medical staff came in, their steps respectful and their faces solemn. Gently, they helped Gyuvin release his hold on Ricky, but his heart clung to the man he loved, to the bond that death could not sever.
The next day Gyuvin showered, and got dressed up in his business attire, the maids gave him warm smiles which he returned, he entered the room which they had never got to finish, only filled with boxes of expensive toys, there was the moon plushie, he grabbed it and headed to his law-firm. He greeted everyone one the first floor before going up the elevator.
He felt the cold wind envelop him, he wondered if that is how ricky felt. No, Ricky felt worse, he could have done better.
“Sir what are you doing here?” said the maintenance guy as he gave him a confused look.
Gyuvin just run to the edge and jump, he wanted it to end fast. The sooner he was reunited with Ricky and their son, the better.
