Chapter Text
The warning signs have always been there since the beginning of their story. And youโve been just waiting for Alex to catch them before he starts to fall for the new yorker girl who happens to be living at his own place, with his brothers and cousins, and in close proximity with his least favorite sibling, Cole Walter.
Thereโs been a diatribe between the brothers, trying hard to compete with one another. But the heart wants what it wants. And at the moment, what both of them want is not just a piece, but the whole cake with the name of Jackie atop.

THE THRID CLASS of the period hasnโt even started and heโs already thinking about how to ask her out. Jackie is seated next to Skylar and Grace, like usually. Not a single furtive look from hers has grasped Alex during all that time, and youโve already heard Grace saying the name Cole once or twice, with Jackie grimacing, but then smiling to herself.
โYou seriously need to stop staring at her, Alex,โ you mutter to him. After beholding his twenty sighs of the day, heโs getting irritatingly ridiculous, โlike, now.โ
Youโre obviously jealous. You clearly have a soft spot for him, and you donโt feel aversion to Jackie, but the way heโs lost on her, it gives you the strongest pang in the stomach. And you can barely take it any longer.
โAnd why would I do that?โ he says, playfully. Partly interested in your comment, partly messing around with you.
He is used to your lectures. He even enjoys them. Maybe too much, heโd say. But he keeps messing up, so you keep reproaching him about his attitude.
And he lets you.
โBecause sheโs clearly not looking at you,โ you answer.
He turns his head toward your side, and that smile has become a pout on his lips. His freckles looking light brown at this range between you two, and the willow green of his irisesโฆ Even if youโve admired them beforeโฆ youโd never seen them so close. It makes you shiver.
A soft warm is coloring your cheeks due his attention lingering on you now. Just as you wanted. But youโd never admit that out loud, so you continue with the lecture where you stalled, โAnd that is humiliating.โ
He snorts, any trace of his smile falling to the ground. โMaybe youโre right.โ
โI am always right,โ you reply, pride in every syllable you speak.
But are you? Arenโt you speaking with the green-eyed monster of jealousy crawling from your guts? Is this fuss about him or about your inability to bear with your own feelings?
Youโre still trying to discover that.
