Work Text:

It was just your typical day at Babyls with no new events going on. You find yourself staying after school for another tutoring session since you weren't the best student in Psychology. Unfortunately; this day has been much tougher for you since nothing has been going your way all day. From your parents' constant reminder that you need to study more and get your grades up to your peer’s comments about how dumb you are.

“Do you understand the article,” a familiar voice said looking at you from the front of the classroom.

You were brought out of your thoughts by the sudden question. You wanted to nod your head, but couldn't bring yourself to as you hadn’t really been paying attention. You felt overwhelmed and frustrated by all that has been going on and Murmur-sensei’s lessons were not helping matters. The lump in your throat that had been there all day kept growing and you found yourself in desperate need of a break. You looked up from your textbook to Murmur-sensei. In a meek and hesitant voice, you asked, “Sensei, can we take a break?”

Murmur-sensei looked at you with a smile. In a kind but stern voice he says, “(Y/N), we really need to get through this session. We don’t have much time before your upcoming psychology exam.” He then turned back to the board and began writing on the board again.

You suddenly felt the lump in your throat get bigger and found it harder to breathe. Tears appeared at the corners of your eyes, but you quickly wiped them away. “Sensei…I really need…a break,” you say with your voice cracking.

Murmur-sensei turns around for a second time and looks at you. He lets out a sigh and puts the chalk down. He then looks down at his watch then looks back up at you. Letting out another sigh he says, “I guess we can spare a few minutes. I’ll give you five minutes then it's back to work.”

You mumble a “Thanks” and quickly get up from your desk and make your way to the bathroom. Quickly opening and closing the bathroom door, you collapse to the ground in tears. “I-I can’t take this,” you say to yourself as your tears fall. All of the tutoring sessions and the expectations of others heavily weighed on you and you found yourself crumbling under the pressure. “I hate this,” you mumble to yourself.

A few minutes had passed and Murmur-sensei began to worry since you had not returned. He looked at his watch and said, (Y/N) has been gone for over ten minutes. What’s taking her so long?” Murmur-sensei decided to get up from his chair and exit the classroom in search of you.

While in tears, you heard a knock on the bathroom door. “(Y/N)? Are you okay in there?” Murmur-sensei asked with a tone dripping with concern. You quickly try to calm yourself and stabilize your voice so as to not give it away that you were just crying. “I-I’m fine. Be out in a second.”

Murmur-sensei being the psychology teacher that he is doesn't buy your words even a single bit. Against his better judgment, he decides to enter the bathroom and closes the door behind him. He looks over and notices you sitting on the floor of the bathroom with your head laying on your arms. He walks over to you, but keeps a bit of distance from you as to not wanting to overwhelm you. He then crouches down in front of you. With a soft voice he says, “(Y/N, can you talk to me?”

You quickly shake your head, not wanting to talk to anyone at the moment. "I just wanna be alone," you thought to yourself, but didn’t have the confidence to say it to Murmur-sensei.

Murmur-sensei could hear the quiet sniffles coming from you and could see the tremors coming from your body. ‘Poor kid,’ Murmur-sensei thought to himself as he watched you silently cry. He lifts his hand and forms a ring around his eye and activates his mood ring. ‘She's upset, but she's also stressed and frustrated,’ he thinks to himself. Lowering his hand he says, (Y/N)...I know you're frustrated. Is it alright if I give you a hug,” he says hesitantly.

You jolted in shock at the question, but still didn’t look up at him. ‘Should I?’ You wonder to yourself. You continued to debate back and forth with yourself then finally decided to just give in. You give a silent nod to Murmur-sensei.

Murmur-sensei scoots closer to you and wraps his arms around you then pulls you into a hug.
He softly whispers into your ear, “It’s okay, just take your time. I’m here.” He squeezes you a bit tighter wanting to make sure you knew he wasn't going to leave you alone.

While in the hug you could hear his heart beating in his chest. You could even smell the fresh scent of linen coming from his uniform. It was only when you heard his kind words that you again gave in to your feelings and let your tears flow. You cried loudly into his chest not caring if he heard it or not.

“You'll make it (Y/N). Just take things slowly. I’m here to help you.” Murmur-sensei softly says and he continues to hug you. He felt your tears soak into his uniform, but didn’t care as you mattered more to him than his uniform.

You clinged to him tighter, but nodded your head to let him know that you did hear him.

“Everything will be fine. I promise you that I will help you. You are not alone (Y/N).” Murmur-sensei says with certainty.

A few minutes had passed and your cries turned into soft sniffles. You continued to cling to Murmur-sensei, trying to soak up the comfort he’s providing.

Murmur-sensei softly says to you,” Let’s get up and wash your face.”

“Kay,” you say in a hoarse voice. You get up along with Murmur-sensei and he takes you by the hand and leads you to the bathroom sink. You turn on the faucet and bend down to wash your face. Once done, you turn off the faucet and turn to look at Murmur-sensei.

“Are you ready to go back to the Classroom (Y/N)?” Murmur-sensei asked with a kind smile.

You look at Murmur-sensei and with a soft smile and say, “Yeah, I’m ready.”
