Work Text:
Luffy hated the sound of his phone in the morning and he needed to remember to change the tone of his alarm clock on his phone.
He raised his body and yawned loudly, picked up his phone on the nightstand next to him, turned off his alarm, and then just plopped back down and wanted to try getting in some more sleep.
But before being able to see if he had any more sleep in him he felt someone kick his leg, reminding him where he was.
“Luffy get up you need to get ready for work,”
He forgot that he fell asleep in Law’s apartment yesterday, but he couldn't help it, his boyfriend's apartment was much warmer and cozier than that tiny freezer he called home, plus, Law's place was closer to his work.
“I don't wanna go to work," he whined and turned his body to the other side so he could spoon Law.
"I wanna stay in bed with you instead of going to work early and getting yelled at by my boss."
Luffy hated his asshole boss, Mr. Farkus , he always addressed Law as Luffy's “ friend ” whenever he asked him if he was early to work because he stayed at his place.
“I still don't understand how you get in trouble for coming to work early?” Law asked half asleep.
“Mr. Asshole has this thing about everyone being right on time, not too late or too early,” Luffy said with a pout.
“Well you need money to feed yourself so walk instead of taking the bus so you're not too early,” Law grumbled, pushing Luffy off him.
“I'm guessing you're working at home today since you're not in a hurry to get up,” Luffy said, giving up on trying to sleep more so he got out of bed and looked for clean pants in his drawer that Law gave him.
Law confirmed Luffy’s question with a grumble from under the covers and Luffy just smiled as he walked to the bathroom.
It had been almost a year since they met at a Christmas party, Luffy couldn't remember for the life of him whose party it was, but it didn't matter because Law spilling his drink accidentally on him was the best thing to ever happen to Luffy.
They were going to celebrate this Christmas together, just the two of them, and Luffy couldn't be any more excited.
Law didn't have a family and Luffy’s older brothers, whom he would usually spend the holidays with had other plans this year, so Law agreed when Luffy asked him if they could spend Christmas together.
But there was one thing Luffy had been thinking hard about since they agreed to spend the holidays together.
Law’s gift.
Even in the shower, that was all Luffy could think about, It will be the first time he gets to give Law a Christmas gift and he doesn't want it to be just good but perfect.
He had one idea, but before thinking too hard about it, the shower water suddenly turned ice cold, making Luffy shriek.
“Holy shit! cold, cold, cold.”
He quickly got out of the shower and wrapped his shivering body in a towel and then heard Law calling from the bedroom, “Sorry, I forgot to tell you that the hot water has been a pain and doesn't last long.”
Luffy was at least relieved that he was done rinsing the soup out of his hair before he got attacked by the cold water.
He focused on drying himself off and getting dressed and when he walked out of the bathroom he could smell coffee from the little kitchen area in Law’s apartment.
He found Law pouring himself a cup and Luffy wondered when he got up. “You’re up?” he asked Law who just took a sip of his coffee as he sat down at his small work desk.
“I'm already awake, so I thought I might as well get the day started and finish my work,” he explained with a yawn and turned on his old laptop.
Law was lucky to be able to sometimes work at home since he worked as a writer for a newspaper, Hence, his routine on those days was pretty much always the same, wake up, have coffee, turn on his laptop, and fidget with his old pocket watch as he would stare into space when he was thinking what he should write next.
Another person would have properly gone crazy from listening to Law opening his old pocket watch and closing it, over and over again.
Yet, Luffy for some reason enjoyed looking at Law when he was all focused and in his zone.
But he couldn't right now since he needed to get his shoes on and get going, he was going to walk out and he shouted “Love you.” to Law but Law stopped him from closing the front door by calling to him if he wasn’t forgetting something.
Luffy wondered what he could be forgetting and when it came to him he walked back inside and to where Law was sitting and kissed him on the forehead.
“Not me you dork, the guitar,” Law told him and had that look on his face that told Luffy he was an idiot.
‘Oh, right!’ Luffy thought to himself and he had completely forgotten about his precious guitar.
He had this old Gibson acoustic guitar that he pretty much always had with him wherever he went, but after meeting Law he’s been a little distracted with giving Law all his attention since Luffy was absolutely head over heels for him, so he would sometimes forget the guitar when going to work.
Luffy worked at a convenience store and did retail work but he hated it, a nice customer was a rarity and his boss was an asshole.
So after work, he likes to do a bit of street performing or “Busking,” as Law told him what it was called.
He found the word funny and enjoyed doing it more than working at the store, he felt much more happy and free when he could play music for people around him and he always did his best to find a spot with many people but not somewhere where he would be a bother.
Luffy didn’t care that much if he had a rough day and didn’t make much money, he was just happy being able to play his guitar.
He grabbed his old Gibson and once again called out “Love ya,” to Law as he walked out of the apartment.
When Luffy walked out of the building he was greeted by New York's snowy and cold winter.
He both loved and hated it, he wanted a snowy Christmas but shit was it chilly.
Luffy had everything planned out for Christmas Eve, they would wake up, have breakfast, go for a walk, and maybe go ice skating, and when they go back to Law’s apartment, Luffy would make Law finally watch his favorite Christmas movie Die Hard.
Law had never seen it and didn’t believe Luffy that a movie called Die Hard was a Christmas movie.
Law would then make them something to eat for dinner since Luffy couldn't cook anything without burning something and then Luffy would give Law the perfect gift.
And if they weren’t too tired they could have some fun in Law’s bed before going to sleep.
Luffy was so deep in thought when walking to work he forgot to check the time and he was walking too fast and too early into work.
“Luffy!” an old raspy voice called him.
He cringed from hearing that voice and then put on his fake happy face before turning to his boss Mr. Farkus .
Farkus was a skinny tall man who looked like he was in his mid-60s and stuck with a permanent frown on his face that Luffy was convinced he was born with.
“30 minutes way too early,” he said to Luffy as he looked at the time on his phone.
“Sorry, Mr. Farkus .” Luffy fake apologized, keeping his fake happy face on.
“First you were too late to work but now after meeting that friend of yours you're always too early,” he kept on ranting, Luffy just kept his fake happy face on, he'd gotten used to droning out the sound of his boss in these moments and focus more on thoughts like what he should have for lunch or wondering what Law is doing right now.
Usually, when he hears the words “You got that.” from Mr. Farkus Luffy knows he is done talking and or ranting.
“Understood,” Luffy answered, with no idea what his boss told him.
When Mr. Farkus turned his back to him Luffy let his fake smile immediately drop and he stuck his tongue out at him.
“Understood you miserable bastard, I hope you get visited by 3 ghosts this Christmas,” he mumbled under his breath,
He went to the breakroom where he had a locker to put his things away and where he kept his name tag and an employee vest.
Even if he didn't catch a word from what his boss was ranting about he always assumed he told him something about not starting work yet and that he wasn't paying him an extra 30 minutes or something like that.
So Luffy sat down and browsed some stuff on his phone to waste time.
After texting Law some silly pictures Luffy's friend and co-worker walked into the breakroom.
“Hi Nami,” he greeted her with a smile, happy to see a friendly face, yet she grumbled under her breath not noticing Luffy.
“Mr.Asshole?” he asked the question he already knew the answer to.
“Huh? Oh! Hi Luffy, it's just Mr. Farkus being annoying.”
She put away her jacket and asked how Luffy was doing.
“Gift problems,” he answered her.
“Is it for Law? You not spending Christmas with your brothers as you usually do?” Nami asked as she put on her employer west and looked for her name tag.
“Ace is traveling and Sabo is going to be with Koala's Family for this Christmas,” he explained.
“Ah I see, and this is your first Christmas since meeting him right? So I'm guessing you want to give him a perfect gift.”
“Yep,” he confirmed.
“So any ideas about what to give him,” she asked, making Luffy think back to his idea.
“His watch,” he told her with a happy face because this was probably the best idea he had.
“His watch?” Nami echoed back to him confused.
Law’s pocket watch wasn't just any old watch, it was a watch his father gave him before passing away.
Law used to have parents and a little sister but he lost them in a plane crash, Luffy didn't know many details since Law didn't like to talk about it, but Luffy knew one thing for sure and that was how much Law cared about that old watch.
Luffy would see it in his hand fidgeting with it so many times he could recognize the ticking sound from it compared to any other clock.
And the perfect gift would be a chain for his watch, Luffy remembered Law mentioning that it used to have a chain but broke off years ago.
“A chain? That sounds easy enough.” Nami told him after Luffy explained the watch.
“I don't want to find just any cheap chain, I want it to be nice and fancy,” he told her and that was something he was set on ever since the idea came to him.
Law deserved something amazing after everything he's done for him.
Paying for takeout when Luffy was low on money for the month,
Taking care of him when Luffy got sick from a fever,
Helping him on weekends to draw crowds when he played his guitar.
Luffy could have counted more things but Nami got his attention by asking, “How much money do you have?”
“That's the problem in my gift problem.”
“How much do you have?” she asked again, now more curious.
“50, but the chain I have my eyes on is around 100.00, so I’m missing the half,” he answered and thought about all the delicious meals that money could have gone into but Law was more important.
“Today is the 15th, do you think you can make that money in time?”
“Well, busking has not been helping, guess people aren’t that much in the giving spirit this year,” he answered Nami a little annoyed as he got up from where he was sitting because it was finally time for him to start working.
“May I recommend going to a pawn shop,” Nami said as they walked towards the two cashiers they worked on.
“Pawn shop?” he echoed confused.
“I’m going home for Christmas and I'm leaving on the 20th, we can use this weekend to go through your stuff at your apartment and see if we can find something to sell,” Nami offered.
But going through his stuff would probably take all day and he would end up sleeping at his place and he couldn't ask Law to come over, then he would have to explain why he's pawning stuff.
He had gotten so used to sleeping next to Law that sleeping alone felt weird.
“Alright, but I’m not looking forward to sleeping by myself,” he agreed to Nami’s offer with a little bit of a pout but then Nami gave him a smirk and said, “Wow, he’s that good in bed.”
“Shut up!” He yelled with a flushed face and felt embarrassment creep behind his neck when some early customers looked at him confused.
The rest of the day was the same as always.
Shity customers, some nice ones, and Luffy had to deal with a Karen but luckily Nami was able to save him, (At work, Nami was known as the Karen Slayer of how good she was at dealing with them)
By the end of the day when Luffy could finally get out of work, he excitedly went into the breakroom, opened his locker, and took out his guitar, unfortunately, he noticed a new scratch on his guitar because Luffy usually just carried it on his back with a guitar strap.
Luffy really needed a case or something for it but would always forget about looking more into it, he also just used a coffee cup to collect the money he made from performing.
He left the store after saying goodbye to Nami and went to his usual spot in Central Park, and with it being Christmas he of course played Christmas Carols.
He was only able to get some pennies and he would have played longer if it weren't for the snow falling on him getting heavier and it was getting chillier with every minute.
He took his regular bus to Law's place and tried to think about what he could sell.
It had been about a week since he was at his apartment and it didn't feel like his home anymore with how much he stayed at Law place.
Luffy had been thinking hard about a certain question recently but he never got it out of him when he was with Law.
“Let’s move in together.”
Or something like that, he had tried to phrase it in all kinds of ways in his head and he was just so scared of Law telling him No and that it's too early to think about moving in together with a relationship that's not even a year old.
They technically didn't become a couple right away.
When Law spilled his drink on him at the Christmas party last year Law offered him a clean shirt at his place.
That night at Law Place ended with both of them losing more clothes because they of course hooked up and exchanged numbers the next morning which made January become what Luffy liked to call ‘The Greatest Booty Call Month Of His Life.’
At first, It was just sex but Luffy stopped this hook-up dance when he started to develop feelings for Law, so he finally asked him out on a date.
Law was unsure about a romantic relationship at first but agreed to go on a date and he quickly started falling for Luffy and they'd been a couple ever since.
Luffy finally got out of the bus on his stop and walked towards Law's apartment building.
Walking into Law's apartment on the fourth floor always felt nice and warm, Law was at his desk working and writing as usual with his pocket watch in one of his hands and Luffy's favorite thing was hearing Law say "Welcome back."
Though, Luffy had been wishing for a while now that the welcome back would turn into a “Welcome Home.”
Things went as they usually do, Law made them dinner and they would watch TV while cuddling on the couch, but then Luffy had to do something unusual, he had to lie to Law.
He didn’t like lying to his boyfriend even if Law would tell him constantly that little white lies are fine; like keeping a surprise party secret,
On the other hand, Luffy had a terrible poker face so when they were in bed with him scrolling on his phone and Law reading a book, Luffy tried a couple of times putting his phone down and getting out the lie and trying to put on a convincing poker face.
However, Law caught on that Luffy was struggling to bring something up.
“What are you trying to tell me?” Law always somehow knew when Luffy was stuck with his words.
Luffy took a breath and let out the best little white lie he could come up with.
“I got a call from my neighbor about a weird smell so I thought I would use the weekend to go through my apartment and maybe clean a little.”
Luffy had no idea if Law bought it because, unlike Luffy, Law has a good poker face and he asked Luffy if he needed any help with cleaning.
Luffy awkwardly continues lying by telling Law not to come over because he is embarrassed that he hasn't taken good care of his apartment.
He still had no idea if Law was believing his bullshit of a lie, he just told Luffy that he could call him if he needed any help.
The air around them felt weird and heavy that night when Law turned off the lights and Luffy barely got any sleep, he hated lying to Law even if it was all for his perfect gift.
…
“Luffy this place is a mess,” Nami complained as she took one more look around before they left Luffy's apartment.
Luffy wasn’t really lying about the cleaning part, he lives in a small crappy studio apartment in an old building and Luffy was rarely there so he wasn’t really taking care of his apartment.
Nami was going through a box of stuff of things Luffy had no issue with letting go of, things like an old flip phone that he doesn't use anymore or some kitchen stuff he had no use for.
“We can see how much everything in this box is worth, are you ready to go?” Nami asked as Luffy was finishing cramming some trash in a trash bag.
“Yeah..wait no! My guitar, I’m gonna play a little after the pawn shop,” he said to Nami who gave him a look after he grabbed his guitar and put it on his back.
“What?”
Nami let out a tired sigh and told him to use the weekend to actually clean and not just play his guitar.
“It’s not that bad Nami,” he told her as they walked out of his apartment.
Nami ordered and paid a taxi for them to the pawn shop she likes to go to, she told Luffy she knew the owner because of how many times she's been there.
That made too much sense to Luffy, Nami didn’t seem like the kind of person to give away the stuff she doesn't use anymore when she could sell it.
The first thing Luffy noticed when he got out of the taxi and saw the shop was the name, he read the sign a couple of times, trying to figure out if the name was for real.
“Harry’s Pawn Shop?” he said confusingly to Nami as he stared at the last-minute scribbled ‘S next to the name Harry.
“Yeah, I know it sounds like it's called Hairy Pawn Shop but Harry is the guy's name and it took him forever to realize the name choice,” she explained.
Luffy chuckled at that as they walked inside and he saw just how much stuff was for sale, Phones, TVs, Gaming consoles, there was stuff everywhere and old vintage stuff also, making the shop smell like a grandparents' home.
Luffy put his box on the counter and laid his guitar down letting it lean on the counter as well, Nami then rang the bell next to the register and called out, “Morning Harry.”
A short chubby balding man who looked to be in his late 40s appeared from the room behind the counter that had no door but those old-school hippie beads, Luffy assumed that this man was Harry.
“Nami,” he said with a toothy grin that showed off the gold tooth he had, “My favorite person to do business with, so what are we trying to sell today?” Harry asked and seemed to be comfortable around Nami, making Luffy wonder how many times she pawned her stuff.
“Actually, my friend Luffy here is the one that needs to do business with you,” she explained to Harry and moved the box on the counter closer to him.
Harry let out a curious hum and took a look and Luffy started getting nervous about nothing being valuable that he brought.
“Well, the kitchen stuff looks barely used but they are from a lesser brand and this flip phone looks like it is about to break soon.”
Luffy cursed younger him for being so aggressive with his first cell phone, always flipping it open again and again.
“For the whole box…I would say about 30.00.”
Luffy's stomach dropped and he gave Nami a worried look.
“Oh come on Harry, can’t we make it a bit more, like 50,” she bargained with him and picked up the flip phone, “This phone is fine,” she said with a cocky tone and opened the flip phone, but it broke in half when she did so, and all 3 of them looked at the broken part fall on the counter with dumbfounded faces.
“That’s going to be 20 now,” Harry told them after they looked up from the broken phone.
“Sorry Luffy,” Nami said to him with a sad face but he couldn't hear her that much.
“You know what, this was a dumb idea,” Luffy said with a depressing tone and felt his eyes getting a little teary, he put his guitar on his back and took the box back, wanting to get out of there.
But just as he turned around and was going to walk away, Harry shouted at him to not leave and come back.
Luffy turned to him confused as to why he suddenly shouted at him.
“Your guitar, can I have a look?”
His guitar? Luffy wasn’t sure what to think of that, there wouldn't be any harm in letting this guy take a look, right?
Luffy walked back to the counter, put the box on the floor, and handed Harry the guitar.
He took a look at it with the same curious hums when looking at the box and then asked Luffy if it was vintage.
“Uh…No idea how old it is, it was a Christmas gift from my brothers and they found it at a thrift shop.”
Harry let out more curious sounds and took another look at it.
“It has a few scratches but does it sound good?” Harry asked himself as he put in on and started strumming a few notes.
“You play?” Luffy asked,
“I taught myself in prison,” he said and Luffy gave Nami a worried look but she just gave Luffy a hand signal not to bring it up.
“Sounds good…Alright then,” Harry suddenly said and stopped playing, “Alright what?” Luffy asked him confused.
“I'll give you 150.00 if you are willing to part with it.”
The store went quiet and the number echoed in Luffy’s head, there was no way he said that, right? Luffy didn't know what to think and before he could ask or say anything Nami pulled him closer to her and put her hands on his cheeks, making him look at her directly in the eyes.
“Woah there, hold on for a second, take a breath before deciding anything,” she quickly told him.
But Luffy's thoughts were going everywhere, he didn't want to let go of his precious guitar but if he sold it he could buy Law’s perfect gift.
“Luffy, think hard about this and ask yourself,” she continued and Luffy listened to what she had to say.
“Are you really willing to sell the guitar you've had since you were 7, all for a relationship that isn't even a year old, you guys don't even live together.”
Luffy took all that Nami said and it was all good points, especially the not living together part, he loved that guitar, but he loved Law more.
Instead of memories of him playing the guitar, all he could see in his head was this whole year being with Law,
Like that time they were running around Law’s apartment trying to catch a mouse,
When a car drove into a puddle, that splashed on them when they were taking a walk, so they went back to Law place and showered together,
Luffy making him dinner and Law pretended to like it but Luffy could tell that Law was struggling with swallowing the food with how bad it was.
He wanted more years with him, more memories like that.
Law was worth more than an old guitar.
“You can have it,” he said looking over to Harry, and Nami let go of his face and asked "Are you hundred percent sure?
“No, I’m not sure, but I am more sure that I love Law,” he explained to her with a smile.
He took Harry's hand and shook it firmly and Harry said he would take good care of the guitar and then gave Luffy the money and that was it, now Luffy was a guitar-less musician.
…
Luffy hated that weekend, not only did he have to sleep at his apartment by himself, but he didn't know what to do without his guitar.
He did clean his apartment though, it was pretty much spotless, Yet, clean or messy his apartment felt cold and lonely, and playing his guitar helped whenever Luffy felt lonely.
With no guitar, he ended up watching a bunch of old Christmas movies on his couch and eating pizza.
He fell asleep watching It's A Wonderful Life on the couch and the next morning he woke up to his annoying ringtone on his phone and with pizza crumbs on his face.
He cleaned himself and got ready for work and was late since he was coming to work from his place, so once again Mr. Farkus yelled at him.
Luffy just zoned him out and focused on finishing work so he could go buy Law’s gift and finally go to Law’s apartment.
But now he had a new problem.
Luffy has to lie more to Law when he asks where his guitar is.
He thought about telling Law he had to sell it but Law knew how much Luffy loved that guitar and he couldn't tell him why he sold it.
He just wanted Christmas to get here already so he could give Law his perfect gift.
After work, he went to this luxury store at a mall to buy the chain where he got a bunch of weird looks from the other more snobby-looking customers, even the guy that sold Luffy the chain was looking at him like he didn't belong there.
He asked Luffy if he wanted it wrapped but Luffy said no, he wasn't good at it but he loved wrapping Christmas presents and wanted to wrap Law's gift himself.
The chain was in a nice small display box that Luffy put in his coat pocket and he went to the wrapping station at the mall where Luffy did his best to make the gift look as nice as he could.
It had tape sticking here and there, the wrapping paper looked like it had a tough fight with Luffy.
Luffy tried his best to write as nicely as he could on a to/from sticker and then it was all done, Law perfect gift was ready
He left the mall and went to Law's place and when Luffy walked back into his boyfriend's apartment he was greeted as usual by him saying “Welcome back.”
Law looked like he just sat down on his couch and had a hard day so Luffy walked to the couch, not wanting his tired self to get up, and kissed him and said he missed him but right on cue after Law said he also missed him, he noticed right away that something was missing from Luffy.
“Luffy? Where is your guitar?”
He hated that he had to lie again, but nevertheless, he told Law the best lie he could come up with.
"I left it at my place, I noticed more scratches on it and thought I should take a break playing and see if I could get it fixed next month." he rambled out trying his best to put on a convincing poker face.
Law just gave him a look that he understood and Luffy had no idea if Law bought the lie.
He put all those questions aside for now because he just wanted to get his coat off and snuggle on the couch after feeling so lonely this weekend at his apartment.
That night after making sure Law was asleep Luffy got out of the bedroom and fetched Law's present in his coat pocket and hid it in his drawer.
But there was one other thing he needed to do before going back to bed, he wanted to take a look at Law's watch.
He tried his best not to read any of the stuff on Law's work desk so he wasn't snooping and focused on finding his watch.
But Luffy couldn't find it anywhere.
Luffy put everything back the way it was on Law's work desk and went back to bed, he was a little worried that he wasn't able to find the pocket watch but figured Law must have left it at the office when he wasn't working at home.
…
It was finally Dec. 24, they both had no work and Luffy woke up feeling like a little kid excited for the day.
He got a nice surprise from Law who made him breakfast in bed, the best way Luffy could start Christmas with.
Everything went as Luffy planned, after breakfast in bed they got dressed and took a walk around the city and then went ice skating, only it was a bit of a hassle for Luffy because he always seems to forget he's not that good at ice skating.
But it wasn't so bad, that just forced him to hold on to Law even more.
They had some hot cocoa after skating and went back to Law's place to watch Die Hard.
Law didn't love the movie but he enjoyed it, which disappointed Luffy because he was hoping he would love it, Law however brought up the good point that Luffy never loves the movie Law makes them watch.
Law was more of a documentary type and Luffy never got into the movies Law wanted to watch.
Law made chicken for dinner and while they ate Luffy started feeling a little nervous because he plans on giving Law his gift after dinner.
"What are you thinking about?"
Luffy looked up at Law who of course was quick to figure out that he was stuck in his thoughts.
"When we're done eating I have something to give you."
Law gave him a weird look, he seemed surprised, it made Luffy wonder how long it's been since he got a gift, "Are you ok," he asked him.
Law explained that he usually just gets gift cards from his co-workers for Christmas and he hasn't gotten a gift since he was a child.
Luffy didn't know how to respond to that.
He didn't like gift cards, Luffy looked at them as the quick and easy way to take care of a gift, there was always something so satisfying for him to watch someone he cared about open a wrapped gift than just a gift card in an envelope.
“I actually also have something for you,” Law said, making Luffy look at him excited, he was so wrapped up in taking care of Law's gift that it never came to mind that Law would probably want to give him one as well.
They cleaned up after dinner and when they were done Luffy told Law to wait for him on the couch while he went to fetch Law's gift.
Luffy came back to the couch and sat next to Law with the messy wrapped gift in his hand, excited for his reaction.
“Wait, I need to fetch my gift for you as well, it's pretty big,” Law said and took the gift from Luffy and put it on the coffee table
Luffy looked at his boyfriend excited to hear his gift was big but he couldn't really help himself when a dirty thought came to him.
“A big gift huh? Am I just getting your dick for Christmas?” He said with a smirk, yet Law just flicked Luffy's nose and called him a pervert.
“Now close your eyes while I go get it,” he said, taking Luffy's hands and making them cover his eyes, “Close my eyes? If you are also going to tell me to open my mouth and I get a big surprise then you're the pervert here,” he said as he could hear Law getting Luffy's gift.
He felt Law put something heavy in front of him, making Luffy more curious about what this could be, he then felt Law sit next to him and he told him to open his eyes.
When he moved his hands from his face he was greeted by a weirdly shaped but nicely packed gift, it was long and skinny on the top, big and chunky on the bottom.
Luffy had a feeling he knew what this was and it made him worry.
He looked at Law who just told him to open it, so he ripped the wrapping paper off and now that he could see it he didn’t know what to say because instead of feeling thankful and happy for receiving a gift from his boyfriend he just felt sad.
His gift from Law was a brown hardshell case for a Gibson acoustic guitar, the kind that’s soft on the inside, it looked expensive and fancy and it was something Luffy needed, or he did before selling his guitar for Law’s gift.
Law looked at him confused and Luffy figured he was expecting a more excited reaction to the gift, he asked Luffy what was wrong when he could feel that something wasn’t quite right.
Not looking at Law’s eyes Luffy just picked up Law’s gift from the coffee table, handed it to him, and said “You should open your gift.”
Law did so even if he still had that worried look on him, but after he opened his gift he strangely also had no reaction to it like Luffy with his gift.
This made no sense to Luffy, why wasn’t Law happy about his gift? This was the perfect gift he could have given Law.
They looked at each other and could see that they were both hiding something, Luffy wanted to know what Law was hiding so he decided to come clean about his guitar, only Law seemed to want to confess something at the same time as him.
“I sold my guitar.”
“I sold my watch.”
They both looked at one another shocked from hearing what the other said and then both said at the same time,
“You sold your watch?”
“You sold your guitar?”
Luffy was so confused, why would Law sell his pocket watch, he loved that watch and he didn't understand why selling his watch was something Law had to do to buy him a gift, Law made more money than him.
“Why the hell would you sell your watch? You make more money than me,” he asked, trying to understand what was happening.
“Luffy, my paycheck is maybe a little bit bigger than yours but I'm not wealthy,” he explained and then asked Luffy, “But why would you sell your guitar?”
“I couldn't afford the chain,” he said with a sad pout.
“You love that guitar,” Law said more to himself than Luffy, sounding confused with all of this, “Yeah, but I love you more,” Luffy told him and felt his face getting flushed, and before he knew it Law had pulled him into a hug.
"I love you too, I also couldn't afford the case without selling something and you are worth more than an old pocket watch."
Luffy was out of words, this was such a weird mess, he hugged Law back and suddenly started laughing, they now both had useless gifts and Luffy felt a little silly that he convinced himself he needed to give Law an expensive present.
“What so funny?” Law asked still hugging Luffy.
Luffy didn’t answer Law, he just moved and sat on his lap, kissed him, and said “Next year let's not exchange gifts and just enjoy being together.”
“So, there is a next year?” Law asked with a raised eyebrow
“I don’t care where I am next year, that’s future Luffy’s problem, all that matters to me is that you are with me.”
After saying that Luffy kissed Law again and this time they didn’t let their lips separate and a little bit of kissing turned quickly into making out.
Things were getting heated fast, they hadn't been really doing stuff together because of the stress of the holidays and work so there was no surprise if they were both feeling a little pent up.
It was kind of a blur with how desperate Luffy was getting because before he knew it his pants were on the floor and Law was shirtless, he loved it when they had fun in bed and tried new things but he also loved these kinds of moments where he had no time for that and just needed Law.
No games, foreplay, or dirty talk he just needed Law right now.
It seemed Law was getting just as desperate because he suddenly picked Luffy up, walked into the bedroom, and let him fall onto the bed.
He watched Law unbuckle his belt and get his jeans off and then he joined him on the bed and started marking Luffy’s neck.
But he could mark Luffy's neck all he wanted later.
“Law…later, just get the lube already.” Luffy panted out and had no problem with doing what Luffy told him, he reached for the nightstand next to the bed and took a bottle of lube out of the drawer.
After sleeping together for a year Law had pretty much become an expert on what turns Luffy on, so it took no time for him to prep Luffy.
When he had prepped him for some time Luffy couldn't take much more and begged him to just fuck him already.
“Always so impatience,” Law whispered in his ear as he opened Luffy's legs and got comfortable between them.
He pushed his cock inside Luffy, making him let out a loud moan and once again it didn't take long for him to beg Law to stop give him time to adjust and just fuck him already, he loved that Law was always so worried if he was feeling uncomfortable but sometimes Luffy didn't have the patience and just needed Law to fuck him stupid.
He pulled out, only to slam his cock back into Luffy’s tight hole, making him howl out Law’s name, they found a rhythm and kept going for a while, enjoying and feeling each other bodies after not having sex for a while.
He held onto Law for his dear life digging his nails into his back, Luffy felt he was about to reach his climax, and he whimpered out to Law telling him he was close and wasn’t about to last much longer.
Law just growled in his ear, another favorite thing of Luffy’s, when Law gets really into it Luffy feels like Law becomes more animalistic and he’s only able to grunt and growl instead of getting any words out of his mouth.
Their rhythm slowed down and they climaxed at the same time, Luffy loved it when they reached it at the same time; it always somehow made it feel even better.
Luffy panted with Law's heavy body on top of him after collapsing on him and he was enjoying the afterglow, when he got his voice back he said “Fuck! I needed that, and one round is not gonna be enough.”
Law was still quiet keeping his face buried in Luffy's shoulder, it made Luffy wonder if something was wrong, he definitely reached his climax because Luffy could feel it when he filled him up.
“You ok?” Luffy asked him softly and petted his hair.
Law raised his body so he could look Luffy in the eyes, Luffy couldn't read what he was thinking he looked serious about something but before he could ask him anything else Law cupped his cheek and said,
“Move in with me.”
Huh?
Luffy wasn’t sure he heard that right he just looked confusedly at Law, and before even getting a What? out of his mouth, Law kept on talking.
“That weekend you weren't here was the worst weekend of my life, so I want you to move in, or we could find a new place just for us, whatever you want.”
Luffy was still just looking at Law a bit shocked and Law wondered if had scared him with that question, but when Luffy said something it wasn’t a Yes or a No but, “We did get perfect gifts this year.”
Law looked at him confused and before asking Luffy what he meant he pulled Law's face towards him and kissed him.
Even if he was still confused Law just kissed him back and when they needed air they stopped and Law asked him “Is that a Yes?”
Luffy gave his boyfriend a warm smile and a nod,
“Let's move in together Law.”
