Work Text:

Venus sighs quietly, watching the scene below. In the park below April's apartment, the four turtle brothers  played in the snow. She bit back a giggle as Leonardo smacked Donatello with a handful of snow, only to be tackled into a snowdrift by the purple-masked turtle. The sight was heartwarming, if a bit bittersweet.

She turns her gaze to the city skyline. The snow softened the harsh edges of the city, the glow of the lights warmer and more welcoming. She missed home on nights like these. How she wished she could be home, a cup of hot tea in hand as her father told her stories.

Back then, she had been naive of the ways of the world. Unknowing of the wonders and horrors of the world beyond their little house on the riverbank. She missed those days, but the more time she spent here, with the turtles and their friends, the more she appreciated being here.

"What are you thinking about?"

Venus jolted, turning to see April with two mugs in hand. She relaxed, smiling at her.

"The snow," she said, accepting the mug April held out to her. Inside was a dark liquid topped with cream and sprinkles. She sniffed it, the rich scent of chocolate filling her nose. She glances up at April.

"It's hot chocolate. Have you not had it before?" April settled in the window sill beside Venus, leaning against the cold glass.

"No. Chocolate is not something I had, growing up. I did not know you could drink it, though." Venus took a curious sip, and her eyes went wide. The rich flavor of chocolate and cream warmed her from the inside, smooth and easy to drink.

"Yeah, it's great! We drink it a lot in winter," the other girl comments. She turns to look out the window, and laughs aloud. Venus turned to look, and couldn't restrain her laughter at the sight of Michelangelo chasing his brothers, a giant snowball held above his head as he cackled. Suddenly, Michelangelo tripped, falling face-first into the snow, sending his giant snow ball flying, knocking Raphael into the snow as well. Leonardo and Donatello skidded to a halt, laughing at their brothers predicaments.

"You should join them."

Venus glances up at April, catching her sparkling eyes. She glances back down at the other turtles, then toward the kitchen, where Master Splinter and Casey bicker over cookies. Venus turns back to April, and smiles.

"I should, shouldn't I?"

"Give 'em hell, girl!" April laughs.

Laughing along, Venus passes her mug back to April and springs up, heading for the door. It's about time she played in the snow once more.
