Work Text:

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.” Amber scoffs as she follows Tara inside their apartment.

They just got home from a party at their friend’s house. It was all fun and shit at first before Amber began flirting with someone else. Tara tried to ignore it and gave the girl benefit of the doubt. Maybe Amber was too drunk to notice she was flirting with someone else, someone Amber knows that Tara hated so badly , but when the other girl began being clingy to the other person that’s when Tara lost it.

It had been happening a lot lately. Amber obliviously entertaining other girls while they are together. Tara was being patient and understanding about it— she knows that the taller girl wouldn’t do that on purpose. She knows Amber isn’t stupid like that. But the way it keeps on happening, Tara’s patience is running thin.

And tonight was just her final straw.

“You can’t keep ignoring me, Tara. What is wrong with you?”

“What is wrong with me?! Are you being so fucking for real right now?” Tara snapped. She threw her hand bag on the couch and faced Amber.

She is feeling a little tipsy from the amount of beer she had drunk earlier but other than that, all she feels is her heart shattering as she remembers the image of Amber flirting with someone else.

She looks away, tears slowly forming in her eyes as she holds herself back from crying. “I can’t even look at you right now.”

“You won’t even tell me what is going on with you, Tara. You’re suddenly mad at me and started acting up like this.” Amber exhaled as a hand comes up to pinch the bridge of her nose, shutting her eyes as if she’s having a headache right now.

“You flirted with someone at the party” Tara spits out, gritting her teeth. Her face reddens and she breathes out heavily. “You want to know what’s going on? How about you ask yourself what you were fucking doing at the party that you were in with your girlfriend. Or have you forgotten that I am your girlfriend? Because I feel like lately you’ve been enjoying other people’s presence, Amber.”

Tara knows it’s not good to talk to her girlfriend while she’s this mad. She’s scared that she might say something that she will regret after. She can’t let that happen but she also just can’t keep this emotions she’s feeling all to herself. Amber needs to know how much she’s hurt Tara, and she doesn’t care if it’s unintentional or not, Tara is hurt because of Amber.

“Well, isn’t that big coming from you? What, so I can’t talk to other people but you can talk to Wes and Chad who are obviously in love with you?” Amber rolled her eyes, crossing her arms at Tara.

“Fucking this again. They are our friends! They aren’t in love with me. Wes is just a friend and Chad is literally Liv’s ex. Can you just stop with that already?” her voice raised as she lets out an exasperated sigh.

Amber didn’t say anything, she just looks away from the girl and Tara, she’s getting tired. She’s tired of all of this so she just sighs deeply and walks away from Amber. The other girl was quick to grasp Tara’s wrist, stopping her from walking.

“Where are you going? We’re still talking.”

“We’re done. I’m so sick of this fight over and over again. That wasn’t even the issue. It’s you flirting with someone else but surprise, surprise. It ends up being my fault.”

Tara knows she’s going to regret anything else she says but she can’t stop. She doesn’t know if it’s because of the alcohol she had drunk earlier or maybe, this is what she’s been feeling all this time. It is exhausting fighting over the same thing again and again. Tara had tried explaining to Amber that she has nothing to worry about when it comes to Wes. Tara only wants Amber, and if the girl doesn’t trust her then that’s on her.

That kind of made it seem like Tara was a hypocrite. She knows she doesn’t need to worry about the other girls Amber had been talking to but what can she do? Tara never meant to make Amber jealous on purpose, she knows how much the girl hates that. But Amber, on the other hand, seemed to enjoy it. Fuck her, Tara’s had enough of this already.

“Tara, baby. Please. I never said this is your fault, let’s talk about this—“

“Stop. Just stop talking, Amber.” her voice was cold as she averted her gaze away from the girl. “I’m leaving.”

And with that Tara had walked away from Amber and the other girl didn’t do anything about it, she just watched her leave.

Tara found herself sitting on the bench at the park near their apartment. It was a little bit long walk and she’s almost grateful she didn’t drink much tonight.

Tara had been sitting on the bench for almost an hour now, crying as she realized what just happened to her and Amber. She doesn’t know if this is their final straw, if this is the last time she’ll be able to call her her girlfriend. She doesn’t want to go home and listen to Amber talk about how horrible she handled the situation and that she’s giving up on their relationship. Tara never wanted to all of that to happen.

She just needs Amber . That’s all she ever needs.

Tara wipes her face as she lets her phone ring, watching how her phone screen lights up and show a picture of her girlfriend. She’s been calling her and texting her nonstop ever since she left their place and not once did Tara answered. She’s too afraid. Tara can still feel the anger she’s feeling inside and she’s worried that if they talk again she will say something regretful.

She’s been contemplating whether or not she’ll answer Amber’s calls. Sure, she’s mad, everytime she looks at Amber all she can see is how the girl flirts with other people without considering how Tara would feel, but at the same time she misses Amber. Tara just wants to be in her arms right now and to curl up in bed with her. She wants to forget everything that happened tonight and she could, but it’s just too much now.

Tara then decides to turn off her phone, completely ignoring Amber’s attempt to contact. She lets out a shaky breath, squeezing her eyes shut as she feels tears in them.

Just then, as if in response to her melancholy, the rain began to drizzle softly. Each drop seemed to echo her tears, as if nature itself understood her sorrow. Tara sits on the bench quietly as the rain starts to pour, not caring how drenched she is from the rain. Few minutes have passed and she still remained seated on the bench while the rain kept pouring down. She knows she should go back to their place now, she knows the consequences of her stupid actions but she didn’t do anything. Instead Tara releases a soft sigh and hugs her knees together, burying her head in it.

How did their relationship come to this? She and Amber been together for so many years now and they have been friends since they were younger. She’s known Amber since they were kids and she’s loved Amber since then. How did they end up in this situation?

As much as Tara doesn’t want to think of it that way, she knows they’re on the verge of breaking up. She can feel it. But that isn’t what Tara wants. God, that is the opposite of what she wanted from her girlfriend. She just wants Amber. Tara wants Amber to chase her and tell her that she would never do anything stupid to ruin their relationship again. She wants Amber to know she loves her and she just said all of that because she was hurt but that doesn’t mean she stopped loving her. She wants Amber to find her and hug her and tell her everything will be okay because it’s them, they’re Tara and Amber and they have been Tara and Amber for years. She just wants Amber.

Tara sniffs as she cries harder when she thinks of the other girl. God. What is she doing? Why is she even letting herself suffer like this when all she wants is Amber.

Just when she’s about to take her phone out and call the other girl and ask her to pick her up, she heard a familiar voice from behind.

“Tara..”

Startled, Tara looks up, her eyes widening in surprise as she saw Amber standing behind her, rain-soaked and breathless. The intensity of the moment held them both captive, raindrops falling around them like a curtain of emotions.

Without hesitation, Amber runs towards the bench and takes a seat beside Tara, the raindrops mingling with their tears. "Tara, I'm so sorry," she whispers, her voice heavy with regret, she reaches for her hand. "I never meant to hurt you. I love you, and I can't bear the thought of losing you. I’m so, so sorry, baby.”

Tara's eyes glistened with a mixture of vulnerability and longing. She can’t believe what she’s seeing right now. Amber is here. She’s here! She misses Amber's presence, her touch, and the warmth of their love. The rawness of the moment shattered any remaining barriers, leaving them both exposed and yearning for connection.

Tara's voice trembled as she replied, "You’ve hurt me, Amber.. It really hurts.." Her words trailed off, but her eyes spoke volumes, revealing her desire for reconciliation.

Amber reached out, gently cupping Tara's face with her hands, her thumbs tenderly wiping away rain-soaked tears. "I know, T, I know and I’m sorry.” she whispers, her voice filled with sincerity. "I promise things will be different. We can work this through, just please let’s go home."

Tara glances up at Amber, she bites down her lips as she tries to stop the tears falling down her face. She nods her head slowly and looks away from the other girl. As Tara’s about to stand, she felt Amber’s hand on her shoulders not letting her move.

“I thought we’re going home..” her voice was soft.

Amber stares into her eyes lovingly and Tara instantly felt her heart skipping a beat. God. How can she even stay mad at this girl? It’s so unfair. “I love you. You know that, right?” Amber brushes her thumb against Tara’s cheek. “It’s only you. It’s always only been you, Tara.”

Her heart is beating like crazy and she’s kind of glad that it’s dark in the park or Amber would probably tease her about the red tint on her cheeks. This is truly unfair but she likes it. This is what she wanted and she doesn’t want to let her stupid pride get in the way.

Fuck it.

As the rain cascaded around them, Tara lets out a deep breath and leans forward, closing the gap between them. She felt Amber gasping, taking her by surprise but she quickly answers the kiss. Their lips meeting in a soft and passionate kiss.  Time seemed to stand still as their embrace deepened, their connection reigniting with a fervor that neither of them could deny.

They pulled away slowly, their foreheads touching, their breaths mingling amidst the rain-soaked air. In that moment, Tara knew that their love was stronger than any argument or hardship they had faced.

“I love you too, Amber.” she whispered softly, fluttering her eyes close as she holds the taller girl closer. “I really, really do. And I’m sorry for walking away and making you worry and for saying all those—“

Amber cuts her off with a kiss on her lips which Tara gladly lets her. She reaches for the girl’s hand and then places another kiss on the back of her hand.

“Hey.. you have nothing to apologize for, Tara.” The taller girl squeezes her hand in assurance. “We’ll talk about this, I promise, but for now let’s go home, m’kay? You’ve been out here for too long and I don’t want you to get sick.” she pulls her up from the bench and wraps an arm around her, leaning closer. “You get really grumpy when you’re sick.” she adds playfully.

She gasps and pouts her lips, hitting her gently. “I do not!” she says defensively. “I don’t know if I can walk though.. I’m too tired.” she mumbles.

Without any hesitation, the taller girl moves in front of her and taps her shoulder as she lowers herself down. “C’mon. I’ll carry you.”

Tara burst into giggle before shaking her head firmly. “No! Aren’t you drunk, Amber?  What if you slip and make both of us fall?” she huffed.

Amber, ever the stubborn, didn’t move at all. “I’m fine, Tara. You don’t have to worry about that. Do you trust me?” And really, that’s all the convincing it takes Tara says yes. With a giggle, she hops onto Amber’s back, wrapping her arms securely around her neck and her legs around her waist.

And just like that, they were off to their place, Amber carrying Tara on her back as the rain continued. Tara smiles as she buries her head on the other girl’s neck, exhaling softly. She knows there’s still a lot to unpack, there’s a lot to talk about and it cannot be fixed by just one sorry but Tara isn’t thinking about that right now. All that matters to her is that Amber is here. She’s here with her. She found her and gave her the assurance she needed.

“I really love you.” she sighs and tilts her head up to place a kiss on Amber’s cheek. “Thank you, Amber.”

She sees the other girl grin before she walks faster, making Tara squeal. Each time the taller girl decides to run or walk faster, her arms around her tightened and Amber laughs everytime. This is nice.

Tara stares at herself in front of the mirror as she combs her hair. As she expected she catches cold but luckily her head isn’t hurting right now. She should have known her stupid decision of getting soaked in the rain would make her suffer like this.

“Here, I got you a milk.”

Tara turns to face Amber who placed the glass of milk on the bedside table and then sits on the bed beside her. She took the comb from her hand and brushes her hair instead. She smiles shyly and says a soft thank you before taking the glass of warm milk.

“I was really worried when I couldn’t contact you earlier.” Amber began speaking as she combs Tara’s hair. Her voice was soft and gentle and Tara truly appreciates it. “I got even more worried when it rained. I’m sorry I didn’t get there sooner.”

After drinking the milk, she put it back on the bedside table before she looks up at Amber. She tucks a few strand of her hair behind her ear and leans in to press her lips against hers. “You knew where I was. You found me. You didn’t give up on me, on us.”

“Of course, I didn’t. I would never give up, Tara. Never.”

Tara snakes her arms around the taller girl’s body before she pushes them on the bed. She instantly snuggles into Amber’s arms and sighs in satisfaction, loving the warmth and comfort it brings her heart.

“I’m sorry for being an asshole earlier, Tara.” she heard Amber whispering as she plays with her hair. “It wasn’t right for me to flirt with other people or let them flirt with me. I’m really sorry. I never meant to hurt you, I swear.”

Tara closes her eyes and takes a sharp breath as she remembers the reason why they were fighting in the first place. She’s forgotten it as soon as she sees the other girl in the park because she was too happy by the fact that Amber was there but it’s all coming back now. She feels like crying again. Amber just admitted she did flirt with them and Tara didn’t expect it would hurt so bad to hear the girl admit it.

You never meant to hurt me but you did, she wants to say. She wants to scream it at Amber’s face but she can’t. And it was too late to stop herself from crying once again. Amber wouldn’t have noticed if it wasn’t for her sniff. She was quick to turn her face to Tara who still has her eyes shut but there are tears flowing down her face.

“Baby…” Amber coos, she hears her sigh as their foreheads touch. “Let me make it up to you.” she adds softly before pressing a kiss on her forehead. Then she felt Amber’s lips touch both of her eyelids ever so gently. “I’m only yours.” she whispers, her lips travelling down both of her cheeks, kissing her tears away. “I love you. I love you so much.” a kiss on the tip of her nose. “I would never hurt you. I’d never do anything to hurt you ever again.” Tara then felt a kiss on her lips that always, always felt like the first.

Their lips met, and a jolt of electricity shot through Tara’s body. There goes her heart pounded in her chest, a wild symphony of anticipation. She savored the taste of Amber's lips— a hint of sweetness mixed with a trace of peppermint.

As they kissed, Tara felt the world around them fade into a distant blur. Everything just melted away, replaced by the rhythmic sound of their synchronized breaths. Amber's fingertips traced a delicate path along the nape of Tara's neck, sending tingles of pleasure cascading through her body. In that moment, their bodies gravitated closer, their embrace growing tighter. Tara could feel the gentle rise and fall of Amber's chest, the rapid pace of her own heartbeat echoing the intensity of the kiss. Their lips moved in harmony— a delicate dance of exploration and longing.

As they deepened the kiss, a low, velvety moan escaped from Tara's lips, her body reacting to the surge of desire coursing through her veins. Amber's hands found their way to Tara's waist, pulling her in, erasing any remaining space between them. The world seemed to spin as they lost themselves in the passion, each touch and caress fueling the fire that burned between them.

Reluctantly, Amber broke the kiss, their lips lingering a moment longer in a soft, feather-light connection. Their eyes finally met, the depths of their desire reflected in the intensity of their gaze before it goes soft.

“Tara,” she breathes out. She caresses her cheek gently and brushes their nose together. “I hope you’ll forgive me, you can take as much time as you need..”

Tara bites down her bottom lip before she pulls the other girl down, letting her fall on top of her as she wraps her body around her. “Just.. just please don’t do it again.” she whispers, hiding her face on the girl’s neck. She flutters her eyes close and smile at the familiar sweet scent of the taller girl. “Please don’t hurt me again, Amber.”

“I promise.” she answers and kisses head head before hugging her tighter, not wanting to let her go. “I promise, baby.”

“Don’t flirt with anyone else. Just flirt with me instead. Just me, okay?” mumbling, she bites down on the taller girl’s shoulder. It wasn’t that hard but it was enough to leave a bite mark.

It made Amber gasp in surprise. She then chuckles lightly and nods her head. “You’re the only one for me, Tara.” she leans in her ear before whispering. “I’m literally so obsessed with you, baby.”

And Tara giggles at the silliness before crashing their lips together once more.
