Work Text:
Senku's second birthday was an even bigger affair than the first one. Yuzurhia had gone all out to make him a new lab coat and gloves. Taiju ran around restocking all the materials they had run low on but weren't essential. And the villagers threw a feast complete with ramen, preserved fruit, and Francois's cooking .
Then there was Gen's gift subtly slid into his hair that afternoon.
The two unruly peices of hair that always hung in his vision had gotten annoying. He was 2 seconds aways from finding a sharp enough knife to remove the problem altogether.
"You're going to get wrinkles." Senku looked up from his work and a cool finger was placed in between his brows, firmly rubbing a small circle there.
Senku pulled his head away from the touch. Bringing his hand up to protect it from further attack.
"Its 1 billion percent too late for that, what do you want mentalist?"
"Hmmm. Nothing. I was just asked by the lovley chieftains daughter to somehow persuade you into coming with me to the village in, oh let's say 30 minutes."
Senku turned back around to face his work. Huffing an exasperated sigh. "It's your fault they even know about today."
Gen hummed lightly and leaned over Senku's shoulder, watching him work.
Senku had always been resistant to being touched. While Taiju tried to respect it in his over-excited moments he would still latch on. He'd even gotten used to Yuzuriha's more clinical touch while she was sizing him up for clothes. Gen just slid in close and hovered lightly over his shoulder. Following along with whatever Senku was mapping out, or at least trying to.
The irritating peices had swung back into his vision. He grabbed them roughly and shoved them to the other side of his head. 158 seconds later the strands slipped out from behind his ear, again.
Before he could make a grab for them Gen moved over to the other side and pulled the peices back into place. "Don't you orry-way, I've got a trick up my sleeve." Gen pulled a bent peice of wire out and slid it into Senku's hair. Senku muttered that looks familiar, before being hushed as his hair was lightly tucked into place and secured.
Gen stepped back and admired his work, slid his hands into his sleeves and called."Wrap up and join us for celebration birthday boy."
Pulling the pin out of his hair now, it was clear that this wasn't just a stray peice of wire the mentalist had found. Thicker than the telephone strands, carefully bent and waved on one side to hold hair, and even painted white to match.
A grin spread across his face as he tucked the pin into his essentials bag and found a few more already in there. He'd definitely find a way to get the mentalsit back in April.
