Work Text:
“Hey, Marianne, you busy tonight?”
Hilda’s voice catches her attention as she passes on the sidewalk. She slows down a bit, puts a hand on Marianne’s hip in a way that makes Marianne’s skin feel electric. Once, it was enough to set her to sputtering. Now that she’s accustomed to how much Hilda likes touch, though, it doesn’t provoke more than a light little dusting of pink on her cheeks.
“U-Um, no, not really. I mean, I was just going to go back to my dormitory and read for a little while. Why?”
“Well, if you wanted, I’d like to ask you to come on a walk with me. Just the two of us. The grounds outside Garreg Mach are really pretty at night and I don’t wanna go by myself.”
Marianne’s heart skips at the request. They’ve spent time together before, but usually during the day, between other tasks. Cleaning or walking back from war council meetings, things like that. This is the first time the two will have ventured out alone.
Is…is this a date? Marianne’s never been on a date before, and…
She looks at Hilda, who is in turn looking at her expectantly. She’s waiting for an answer.
Marianne forces herself to take a breath. No. No, that’s not it. That can’t be it. She just wants company on a walk. She’s probably aware that Marianne knows the grounds, with how often she slips away by herself to pray. That’s all. She smiles faintly, heart still pounding a bit.
“I’d be happy to, Hilda. When should I…um…expect you?”
“Right after dark I guess? Does that work?”
She nods.
“I’ll be ready.”

Marianne had accepted the invitation from Hilda without much thought, but as the hour draws closer and the sky begins to grow dark, she feels herself growing ever so slightly more apprehensive. She’s usually had some other topic to fall back on, something important to discuss with Hilda, a task at hand. Now, here, like this? Just accompanying her on a walkabout of the grounds, she has little to present. What should she say? What should she do? What if Hilda correctly identifies her as…as…
Boring?
Or…worse, depressing to be around? Dour? Too quiet? Or too loud? She would very much like Hilda to be her friend, but she worries about her ability to hold up her end of that bargain. And so Marianne can do little as she waits for Hilda in her bedroom beyond fidget and squirm, desperately hopeful that she doesn’t mess this up.
When the knock finally comes at her door, she has to cover her mouth to stifle a squeak of surprise.
“H-Hello!” she calls out, even though she knows full well who it has to be.
“It’s me!” Hilda replies, sounding utterly cheery. Not anxious at all. And why should she be? She’s a ray of sunshine to Marianne’s gloomy skies. She takes a deep breath, then goes to join Hilda outside.
It’s late—Hilda had told her to expect her right after dark, so Marianne had expected twilight, but it’s completely black out. The stars glimmer in the sky, the moon lights their way, and the cool autumn breeze ruffles at their skirts. It’s a beautiful night, and Marianne realizes she’s staring at the sky while Hilda’s waiting beside her.
Oops.
“S-Sorry! I got distracted,” she says, smiling nervously. “It’s…a lovely night, after all.”
“’Bout as lovely as you,” Hilda says with a wink. She offers Marianne her arm, either not noticing the way her eyes widen or too polite to comment on it. “You still feel up for a walk?”
“Yes. I’d like to.”
“Nice. We’re off, then.”
Marianne takes Hilda’s offered arm, for it would be rude not to, and lays a hand on her gingerly. Perhaps that’s too much, but if it is, Hilda’s once again too polite to say.
She sets off walking toward the front gates that lead out of the monastery, and Marianne keeps pace with her, trying to remain calm. It’s quiet, but it’s a companionate, comfortable sort of silence. Marianne had been worried about being awkward, but she settles into this space with Hilda nicely, no sounds but the breeze in the branches and the sounds of their shoes on the stone of the path. Most people are probably either asleep or retired indoors for the night.
And so…it almost seems as though the world exists just for them.
Their walk takes them outside the gates and down the path, and once they pass through the walls, they begin to chat. About small things, mostly. The food at the mess hall, Byleth and Claude’s strategy meetings, the way Lorenz’s hair was all messy that morning and nobody told him, and it looked very funny. Hilda cracks a couple of jokes, and Marianne laughs, but she listens far more than she speaks. She’s glad to simply be here with Hilda, to share this space with her. To be allowed to bask in her warmth.
The conversation turns after a while, though. Hilda complains about a string of liaisons. Of failed romances. She mentions how, back in their student days, she’d had ‘kind of a thing’ with Edelgard, but it never panned out. How she kissed Leonie recently, but there was ‘like, nothing there’. How Lysithea was ‘kind of a little grump but she really should get laid’, and that much was enough to make Marianne gasp. But...she laughed anyways, despite herself, and Hilda did too.
And then she asked the question Marianne had been dreading.
“What about you, Mari? You got your eye on anyone? Been after anybody?”
She feels herself flushing lightly, she grips a little tighter onto Hilda’s arm.
You.
Well, that’s what she wants to say. But instead, she bites her lip. Shakes her head.
“N-Not really. No. I…I’ve…”
“You’ve what? Did I…say something wrong?” Hilda asks.
“No! No, not at all, you’re perfect..ly fine. Perfectly fine. I just…haven’t even ever kissed anyone, is all, and—”
She realizes what she’s just said and bites her lip, embarrassed. She’s almost certainly killed any interest Hilda’s got in her. She’d want a woman who can keep up with her. Someone with more life experience. But just as she’s beginning to sink into the throes of anxiety swelling in her chest, Hilda speaks up.
“Do you wanna kiss me? I could be your first,” Hilda says.
Like it’s the easiest thing in the world.
Marianne struggles not to gape at her. Does…she mean that? No, well, Hilda’s not so mean as to tease her like that. She wouldn’t joke. She really is willing to kiss Marianne. And…it’s so kind of her to offer. Upon hearing that Marianne hasn’t been kissed, she’s willing to help her friend. That’s the sort of selfless thing she’s come to expect from Hilda. She should say no, to be polite. But…Marianne decides to be selfish for once. So, tentatively, she nods.
“Uhm…sure. I would like that a lot, Hilda.”
“Sweet. Just follow my lead.”
Hilda leans in toward Marianne, moving her hands so that one rests on the small of Marianne’s back, the other moving to the back of her neck and teasing at the fuzz of her hairline—a gesture that feels nice, but tickles, too. Marianne smiles, nearly giggles, and then Hilda’s lips are on hers and oh, she feels like she might fly.
Hilda’s lips are so soft. Her grip is so strong, so secure. She melts into the kiss. Into her body. Hilda draws a little closer, and Marianne moves with her. Hilda deepens the kiss, pressing her tongue to Marianne’s mouth delicately, and Marianne allows her to do so, opening her lips and letting Hilda have her fully.
After a moment that feels simultaneously far too short but also like an eternity, Hilda withdraws.
She blinks at Marianne. Grins. Laughs lightly. Marianne laughs too, covering her mouth. She feels giddy, like she could fly. She knows Hilda’s only a friend, but…in that moment it’s easy to imagine her as something more.
“Doin’ okay?” she asks, and Marianne nods.
“Yes. I’m…I’m lovely.”
“Good first one? Not to brag, but I kinda know what I’m doing.”
“Uhm. Yes. Yes you do.”
The rest of the walk passes uneventfully, save for the fluttering of Marianne’s heart in her chest, and when Hilda returns her to her room, she gives her another kiss, this time a peck on the cheek.
“G’night Marianne. I had fun tonight. We should go out.”
“O-oh! Yes, I agree. It was lovely. Of course I’ll go out with you. If you like.”
Hilda bites her lip.
“Alright. Okay, yeah. Cool. Okay.”
She closes her eyes and sighs.
“Yeah. Okay, goodnight Marianne! I’ll see you tomorrow.”
And Hilda’s off like an arrow from a bow, leaving Marianne to spend the rest of the night reflecting on how lucky she is to have a friend like that.

Claude lifts his head off his pillow when he hears pounding on his dormitory door. It’s…late. He’d been dozing off, a tactical manual sitting open on his chest. What in the Goddess’s name could—
“Claude von Riegan, open the damn door! Claude.”
He sits bolt upright, tossing the book aside and running to get it. Is Hilda hurt? Is something wrong? He swings the door open, only to see her standing there…beaming?
“Claude, she let me kiss her! And she said yes!”
🙜
The two of them start to spend more time together. During the day, of course, Hilda will often accompany her on her tasks. She even comes with her to the stables and helps tend Dorte—a chore she knows Hilda doesn’t enjoy, but she claims she just wants to spend time with Marianne. A wonderful friend indeed. That makes her smile.
Smiles come, too, when Hilda kisses her more often. Usually a few times a day. Sometimes little pecks, when they’re around others. Sometimes deeper ones, when they’re alone. Sometimes those kisses come with hands on Marianne’s hips, or touches on her neck. Sometimes they arouse certain feelings that Marianne certainly needs to deal with alone. She sometimes feels herself stiffening when Hilda holds her close and kisses her deeply, and she always fears that Hilda will notice.
She never seems to, though. Or she’s too polite to say. Marianne doesn’t deserve a friend like that, but she’s so glad to have one.
Hilda’s gentle ignorance couldn’t last forever, though, and so it’s one night when she manages to steal some of those deeper kisses from Hilda in her dormitory that the other shoe finally drops.
“Hey, uh, Marianne?” Hilda asks when they part, both flushed and catching their breath. “You…doing okay down there?”
And…oh Goddess. This is it. This is the moment that all this comes to an end. This is where Hilda exposes her for the shameful degenerate she is, ends their friendship, and Marianne gets no more kisses, no more embraces, no more fingers interlaced with her own on moonlit strolls. She feels like she’s about to cry.
“I…Hilda, I…” she tries to explain herself, but the words won’t come out. “I’m s—”
“Because like, I can help you with that, if you want.”
Marianne’s mind stalls out completely. Thoughts, words, actions, none of them will come. She just stares at Hilda, lips slightly parted.
“I…” she tries. But no. Nothing.
“We don’t have to!” Hilda says, quickly, seemingly worried about something. She can’t imagine why; Marianne caused this problem to begin with.
“But…I’d like to, if you would.”
She feels she might cry for a whole different reason than before. She cannot imagine what she might have done, the devotion she might have shown, to have the Goddess bless her with someone like Hilda. She’s incredible. Truly, the best friend Marianne could ask for, that she would be willing to share even that.
Marianne nods, obviously nervous. Hilda smiles, her shoulders slumping a bit in relief.
“Great, because kissing you like this all night really got me going too, and I was hoping you’d be down.”
“Oh my. I…I see,” Marianne says. She looks at Hilda. Hilda looks at her. Both of them are in pajamas, soft shirts, soft pants. Clothes that are easy to move in. Easy to remove.
“But I’ve never…” Marianne adds, and Hilda shrugs.
“I don’t mind. Let me lead. Is that okay?” Hilda asks. Marianne nods quickly.
“Great. Let me start with…”
Hilda leans forward and picks up Marianne’s hand with both of hers. She kisses her fingertips, one by one, then interlaces their fingers and squeezes.
“That. Do you trust me?”
“More than anyone, Hilda.”
“Alright. Let me keep going then.”
She lets go of her hand for a moment and reaches for the hem of Marianne’s shirt. Slowly, gingerly, she lifts it. Marianne’s ever-so-slightly plush stomach is exposed, and then her breasts. And her collarbone. And, all of her torso, just like that.
“I…I hope…I…” Marianne stammers, but Hilda puts a finger on Marianne’s lips.
“Me next. Do you want to take mine off?”
Marianne nods, repeating the same gesture. She pulls Hilda’s shirt up and over and off, setting it aside. She tries not to stare at Hilda’s chest—fuller than her own, and absolutely perfect—or her stomach, with abdominal muscles that make Marianne want to do nothing but kiss, lick and caress them. Spinning an axe around will do that, she supposes.
“Mmm. Goddess. I love being able to look at you like this. Lay down,” Hilda instructs, putting a hand on Marianne’s collarbone and gently, but firmly, pushing her down to the bed. Marianne couldn’t imagine disobeying that command. She rests her head on Hilda’s nice, plush pillow, and watches her friend shift on the bed above her. Watches as Hilda hooks her thumbs into her own pajama trousers and pulls them down, bringing her panties with them. She sees a tuft of pink hair and, even in the low light, can see how slick Hilda is. For…
For her.
For her.
The thought is nearly enough to make Marianne’s head spin, and her cock twitches between her legs. She couldn’t possibly be more aroused. And Hilda notices. She even licks her lips, before looking down at Marianne and relieving her of her own pants and underclothes with all the speed and precision of whipping off a tablecloth. Marianne gasps as she does, squeezes her thighs together, and has to fight off the urge to cover her face.
“Oh, Marianne. You’re beautiful. More than I even thought,” Hilda says, and she sounds genuinely awestruck as her eyes roam Marianne’s body hungrily. Then again, Marianne doesn’t feel any differently.
“A-and you too, Hilda. You’re…”
She bites her lip, then decides to say it anyways.
“You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”
“Aww, Marianne, you’re gonna make me blush.”
And, to her shock, she is. Hilda Valentine Goneril is blushing. It’s adorable. And beautiful. She’s awestruck. And the next words out of Hilda’s mouth nearly knock her out cold.
“I’m gonna ride you now, okay?”
Marianne nods. Furiously.
“O-okay. I’d like that. Please, Hilda, I…I need you.”
“Oh I like the sound of that,” Hilda purrs, moving up on the bed, straddling Marianne’s hips. She can feel Hilda’s heat, inches away from her. She can’t take her eyes off the woman above her. “Say it again?”
“I need you,” Marianne says, more firmly. “I need you so, so badly, Hilda.”
“Well, who would I be to say no to that?”
Hilda reaches down, takes Marianne in her hand, angles her just right, and then slips down, taking her inside her to the base. Marianne has to bite her lip ‘til it nearly bleeds to keep herself from climaxing right then and there. She swears she sees stars, especially when Hilda closes her eyes and gasps in clear delight, shifting ever so slightly above her. She shakes her head, making her hair ripple around her shoulders like a cascading waterfall of pink.
“I’ve wanted to do this for a while, y’know,” Hilda says quietly, opening her eyes and affixing her gaze to Marianne’s. “Here.”
She reaches down and takes Marianne’s hands, one in each of her own. She guides Marianne to hold her hips, and sighs as she does.
“Yeah. Just…hold me. Right like that. Keep your hands on me.”
She reaches down and puts her hands on Marianne’s shoulders for support. She leans her head forward, her hair falling around her field of vision like a curtain.
“I’m gonna move, okay? I want you to feel it. Just enjoy it, Marianne, you deserve it. But lemme see your beautiful face. If I’m gonna put the work in, I want the reward.”
“R-Reward?” Marianne asks, gripping tight to Hilda’s hips as she begins to rock, her wet heat almost too much to bear.
“Yeah. I wanna see your face when you cum.”
She goes red hot to the tips of her ears.
“Can I see that?” Hilda asks, moving one of her hands to caress Marianne’s cheek. Still moving. Slowly. Rhythmically. Marianne nods.
“Okay. I…I can do that.”
“Good girl.”
Smiling, Hilda picks up the pace a little bit. Marianne can’t hold back her sighs and groans of pleasure. Sharp little cries, winces, she squirms beneath her friend, but never lets go of her hips, like she was told. And Hilda seems as though she revels in it. She’s loud in bed, too, as she rides Marianne for all she’s worth, she cries out her name. Her name. Grips onto her tightly. Leans down. Kisses her. Again and again and again.
They feel the bed rocking beneath them, the posts creaking. They know the sound is probably disturbing neighbors. And neither woman cares. Marianne feels Hilda’s sweat dripping onto her, feels her desperation, feels her hair tickling at her cheeks. It’s the most wonderful feeling in the world. It’s the greatest thing Marianne’s ever felt. And she knows she won’t last.
“H-Hilda. I’m…I’m close. I’m close. Hilda. Hilda.”
“Okay. Okay, good. I want…I want you. I want you Marianne. I need you. Can you do that for me?”
“D-do what?”
She moves down, taking Marianne to the base once more. She leans in, her lips an inch from Marianne’s ear.
“Be a good girl,” she whispers. “And cum for me, Marianne.”
She doesn’t need told twice. Marianne feels an explosion behind her eyes. She cries out louder than before, her legs twitching, her fingers clutching at Hilda’s skin, nails digging in. Hilda muffles her moans somewhat by kissing her, but it doesn’t cover everything. She moves, but only slightly, just enough for Marianne to let out every drop, for her to ride out her orgasm to its fullest. The warmth and weight of Hilda’s body on her, the feeling of being inside her, the feeling of her lips on her own. It’s almost too much to bear, but eventually, the high begins to subside, and she comes down, gently, bit by bit.
She’s left panting on the bed, looking up at Hilda, completely blissed out, tears in her eyes, of both relief and joy. Marianne doesn’t know that she’s ever felt quite so good as she does right now.
“Hilda…” she gasps. “You’re…incredible. You’re absolutely incredible. And…”
Marianne sniffles. Hilda frowns, looking down at her. She moves so that her hands are holding Marianne’s, interlaced fingers, and she asks her a question very gently.
“Hey. Are you okay? What’s up in that busy little head of yours?”
Marianne feels the tears begin to flow down her cheeks. Overwhelmed.
“Just…everything you’ve given me, Hilda. You’re so kind to me. Kissing me, and holding me, and…and even doing this for me.”
“I…mean, yeah, Marianne. I love you.”
“A-And I, you. But most of my friends would never. And…and I wouldn’t want it from anyone but you. You’re so…”
Hilda stops her, moving a hand and putting a finger on Marianne’s lips.
“Hold on. Your friend?”
Marianne’s heart skips a beat. She nods, worried.
“You…know we’ve been…dating, right?”
Silence falls over the room. One could hear a pin drop. It settles in, thick, around the both of them.
“I…I mean. You’ve…invited me out to…to spend time together, and…” Marianne tries, feebly.
“Uh huh. The dates we’ve been going on?”
“I thought you were just—”
“You thought I was just doing this all to be nice? Like, taking you out at night, having dinner with you, spending, like, hours making out in our rooms?”
“I—”
“Marianne.”
Marianne looks up at her, somewhat sheepishly. But she waits for Hilda to continue. She does.
“Marianne von Edmund. I am dating you. I’m courting you. I am your girlfriend. I have been your girlfriend for several months now.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
There’s another pause, before Marianne asks:
“Are you…certain?”
Hilda groans, and this time, not from arousal.
“Marianne. I am. In. Love. With. You.”
“You are?”
“Yes.”
The tears begin anew, this time of excitement and joy together.
“I’m…I’m in love with you too, Hilda!” she exclaims, and Hilda laughs. Full bodied and delightful and in a way that makes Marianne wince, since she’s still inside her.
“I’m really glad to hear that, Marianne. But…”
“But what?”
“Well, clearly I wasn’t thorough enough in making sure you knew it. So…”
She rolls off of Marianne, which draws a squeak from the girl beneath her, and pulls her close, so that both of them are on their sides and facing each other. She draws in, so their faces are near enough that Marianne can feel her breath.
“I’m going to spend all night making sure we’re perfectly, perfectly clear.”
