I Want to Trust You.

Summary:

Basically, Quackity and Slime reunite. Quackity is treating Slime's/Charlies burn scars, when a painful yet necessary conversation starts.

This is my first time posting, so if there is anything I should know please tell me. Also, I know most people either forgot or just don't care for this ship anymore, but I randomly had a craving for it so stick with me. (this story takes place after the most recent lore stream)

Work Text:

At the top of the Needle, Quackity and Charlie found themselves in an uncharacteristically quiet moment. The air was still, devoid of the usual howling winds that coursed through the tower at such heights. Even the distant cityscape below, usually a pattern of neon lights and endless possibility, seemed to pale in comparison to the weight of the silence that hung between them.

It had been weeks since Charlie had came back to Las Navadas, weeks since their relationship had fractured beyond repair, and now they were left with nothing but the sound of their own hearts beating in tandem.

Charlie shifted uncomfortably; his gaze fixed on his scars as Quackity applied ointments that Charlie couldn’t pronounce the names of. He knew they needed to talk, to find a way to rebuild the trust that had once been the foundation of their relationship, but the words refused to come. He could feel the tension radiating off Quackity, sense the turmoil churning beneath the other's calm expression. It was as if they were both waiting for the other to make the first move, to break the silence and start the long, hard journey of forgiveness.

But neither of them were quite ready yet.

Quackity, for his part, was fully aware of how fragile this moment was. He knew that if he said the wrong thing, if he came across as too forceful or demanding, it could shatter whatever small sliver of trust remained between them. So, he chose his words carefully, weighing each syllable before it left his lips.

"I'm sorry," he said finally, his voice barely more than a whisper. "For everything, Charlie. For using you. For pushing you away. For not trusting you as you did me. I'm so sorry, Charlie..."

Charlie turned his head slightly, meeting Quackity's eyes for the first time since they'd arrived. There was a flicker of something in his gaze, a spark of hope perhaps, but it quickly disappeared as he looked away again. "Quackity," he said, his voice tight. "I can't forgive you just yet. You have to earn my trust back."

The words hung in the air between them, heavy and weighted. Quackity felt as if he'd been punched in the gut. He knew that Charlie was right, that he deserved to have to earn Charlie's trust back, but the pain of hearing those words still stung. He took a deep breath, trying to steady his racing heart and the tremor in his voice.

"I understand," he said quietly. "I will do whatever it takes, Charlie. I promise." He paused, searching for the right words. "I don't want to lose you again, Charlie. I never meant to hurt you or let you get hurt."

Charlie looked at him again, and there was a softness in his eyes that Quackity hadn't seen in weeks. It filled Quackity with hope. He reached out a shaking hand and took one of Charlie's, squeezing it gently. "I believe you," Charlie said, his voice little more than a whisper. "I want to trust you, and I believe you when you say you want the same with me, and that you never wanted any of this to happen. But I need time, Quackity. I need time to heal. I think you do too."

They sat in silence for a while longer, their hands clasped tightly together. The wind began to pick up again, whistling through the Needle and carrying with it the distant sound of laughter from the city below. A single tear trickled down Charlie's cheek, but he didn't wipe it away. Quackity didn't say anything, afraid that any words might break the fragile thread of trust that had begun to form between them.

Finally, Charlie sighed and pulled his hand away, wiping the tear from his face. "Let’s... let’s take it slow, yeah?" he asked, his voice barely audible over the wind.

Quackity nodded, unable to meet Charlie's gaze. "Yes," he said, his voice rough with emotion. "Yeah, we should." They sat together for a few more moments, the silence between them heavy but no longer unbearable. There was a new sense of understanding beginning to form. Maybe, just maybe, they could find their way back to each other after all.
