Chapter Text
Loud, inconsiderate, brash, and troublesome. Those were the characteristics Kalego despised the most.
Despite this fact, fate decided that it was a wonderful idea to change his absolutely perfectly normal day into one that contained all four of those despised things.
Everything was fine. He taught idiotic trash, yelled at said idiotic trash, and gave them homework to help them become slightly less idiotic trash. It was then, while he was walking through the halls of Babyls after school and ready to finally finish his day, that fate struck him in the worst way imaginable.
“Nn?” A bright purple flash of light below his feet caught Kalego’s attention. Upon looking down, he was met with a… very odd looking magic circle. It was rather akin to ancient versions of familiar circles, but slightly different, and horribly messy. “The hell?” Kalego clicked his tongue and attempted to step back, only to find that his foot wouldn’t budge an inch.
“What the hell is this?!” He yelled, voice rising with his confusion and increasing anger. When his foot began to sink into the ground itself, Kalego decided to instead try to fly out. One beat, two, but he only continued to sink further in.
Kalego let out a low growl, snarling at his surroundings in search of the culprit who dared to attack a Rank 8 demon such as himself—in his own territory, at that. But before he could even bark out any form of demand for answers, the ground suddenly swallowed him whole all at once. His vision went entirely black, and the worst headache of his life attacked his now horribly spinning head.
“Ugh…” It was only when he took a step back to prevent himself from stumbling, did Kalego realize he was somewhere new with completely different flooring. He blinked away the spots obstructing his vision in a hurry, already summoning Cerberus whilst he regained his bearings.
The dreadful headache had finally started to leave him, but what replaced it instead was a smell so tantalizing that he almost drooled right there on the spot. Despite his now tripling dizziness and the temptation of the scent, Kalego still managed to keep himself sane enough to put up a threatening appearance.
“Reveal yourself, now.” Kalego's body crackled with lightning as Cerberus bared their fangs to something behind him. But before Kalego could turn to see what exactly it was, a voice spoke first.
〘 ⩢⌲ ꘜ!! 〙 (We did it!!)Kalego whipped his head around. Who was it? Who was it that had the ability to make a Chet demon fall to this pitiful state so quickly? There weren’t many Tet demons known, was it another Chet using a Magical Apparatus of some sort? They had to be an incredibly powerful demon, something on the same level of the Six Fingers or—
〘 ⍋⫷ ◭!〙 (Yay!)
. . .
Who the fuck were these weak looking trash? Why were they so cheerfully giving each other high fives when he was standing there with Cerberus and lightning? Were they that confident? Or just idiots?
“I don’t know what you did, but undo it before I crush you to dust. And if you want to live, make it quick.” Kalego struck a bolt of lightning down to the blue-haired male one who screeched and fumbled away quite pathetically. These fools were the ones who did this to him? Ridiculous!
“-ait!” The one who was just attacked sputtered, holding up their hand. Kalego raised a brow in response to the laughably poor Demonic Language. Did they have a different language? Was that what that nonsense from earlier was? But such a thing was unheard of—there's of course plenty of accents in different areas, but the Demon World all shared one language. This has been the case for many, many years, any other languages should've completely died out long ago.
“De-m-n! Deal, deal! We -ave!” Demon? Deal?
“Not interested.” Kalego struck them again, yet they both somehow managed to dodge his attack with a yelp, their only damage being a singed pants leg on one, and a lost heel on the other. Tch. He's dealing with some particularly annoying trash, it seemed.
The woman, despite having previously scrambled away from his attack, suddenly ran up to Kalego with eyes full of blatant greed, “Sac//f–//ice! Human! Child human!”
Kalego frowned at her, “Hah?” The hell was she saying? Human child? Why would they… wait. Were they also human? Is that why they both reek with such a sickeningly sweet smell? He couldn’t recall his brother mentioning such a thing before… But no, that didn't matter. What mattered is that he was somehow summoned to the Human World.
“Yes! Yes! Son! Sell! Money! G/ve! G/ve!” The male who was still on the floor said, seemingly having already recovered from his prior shock. Kalego’s brows furrowed.
“Son?” Was that a translation error?
“Yes! Son! Human child! Sell, money! Give!” The woman’s disgustingly eager nodding confirmed that no, it was in fact not a translation error.
Kalego pinched the bridge of his nose and proceeded to let out a long sigh. Whatever. He didn’t care. This had nothing to do with him. Just because these worthless scum somehow managed to summon him and tried to make it his problem, he wasn’t going to allow it. He was just going to kill them both and find a way back on his own.
“Deal? Deal?”
“Silence.” Kalego shut the annoying humans up with a dark glare. They may be able to dodge bolts of lightning, but there was no escaping a cage of claws clad in it.
He reached his hand out towards them, “Just die quietly.” His palm crackled and—
〘⍋⫷ …? 〙 (Who..?)The newest and strongest addition to the overly sweet smell Kalego was already barely tolerating nearly had him drop to his knees. Kalego hurriedly forced himself to breathe through his nose, lest his salivating mouth let out the drool begging to pour free. How disgraceful, Kalego thought as he willed himself to focus through his once again dizzying vision. While breathing through his nose was stopping the drool issue, it really wasn't helping the scent one. He had to get himself under control.
〘◭⧐⧊! 〙 (Iruma!) Both humans beamed at once. With the way their eyes lit up with newfound hope and joy, Kalego thought for a moment that perhaps the most powerful of their bunch had appeared. But when he turned to face them, he was met not with a towering or bulky beast, but instead, a small, blue haired child. One whose face was as white as a sheet, and body that was nearly but skin and bones.
‘Devi. There are three of them. Do humans multiply by the minute?!’ Kalego cursed as he heaved into the hand now covering his nose and mouth. He wasn't wrong, the scent was undoubtedly coming from the human child.
The older humans then decided to run past Kalego with all prior fears foolishly forgotten, grasping at the shoulders of the child whose wide eyes hadn’t left Kalego’s yet. Babbled nonsense from the older two commenced.
Cheerful ushering and gentle nudges towards Kalego, there the child stood receiving it all looking no more relieved than when it first entered the room.
If anything, it looked worse.
Finally breaking eye contact with Kalego to instead turn to the woman, it reached behind itself to grab at the sleeve of the woman with a wobbly smile full of desperation, 〘 ꘜ⟁◄⍋⫷◢⌲…?〙 (You're joking, right..?)
The woman returned the look with a smile, sweet as her scent and as wicked as a demon returning to origins. Hope turned to hopelessness, and the child slowly turned to the older male, visibly trembling. Said older male clasped their hands together and chirped something gleefully in response, causing the child to bite its lip and nod, gaze downward. Kalego's jaw tightened, he had no desire to watch this little show of theirs any longer.
“Son agree!” The older blue haired male suddenly cheered with excitement, the complete opposite of said child. So it was their son after all.
“G-od child g-od child! Agree! Al--ys agree!” The so-called mother added on with just as much excitement, even going so far as shoving the child forward, causing it to nearly trip and fall.
“Sell sell! Money! Give! Lo-s!” Their insistent babbling was annoying, Kalego thought. He had never wanted to dig the heel of his foot into the face of another so strongly until today.
“I told you to be silent!!” Roared Kalego, bolts of lightning wildly cracking behind him. And, perhaps because these creatures were so incredibly stupid, they didn’t look all too fearful, mostly confused. Only the child was smart enough to look afraid.
This changed nothing. Nothing at all. All this meant was that he had one more useless thing to kill. Such a thing would be easy to do, especially with the way the extra one had completely frozen in its place. An unmoving target was the easiest target to strike.
Kalego snapped, and coins made of gold rained from above.
The absolutely delighted voices of the two older humans sounded as they ran over to said coins piled on the floor, completely abandoning the trembling child still standing before him.
'They say that humans are full of greed and desire' Shichiro would always tell him in his countless excited rambles about Imaginary Creatures. Kalego briefly wondered if he'd be happy to hear that he was correct.
“I’ll be taking the item now.” He dismissed Cerberus as he approached the human child in long strides. It took half a step back in response, glancing behind at its foolish parents who paid neither of them any heed—they were too busy repeatedly scooping up his coins and watching it slip through their fingers with joy.
“Undo the summoning or whatever it is you did now.” Kalego ordered the two who finally looked up and turned to him.
“Ah, yes yes. -ait.” The older male then turned to the child before telling it something that somehow furthered its visible shock. Fists clenched and unclenched, and it opened its mouth without a sound before it eventually just weakly laughed and reached into its pockets. It pulled out a tall, thin envelope and dropped onto the floor without a word. What exactly that little charade meant, Kalego didn’t know nor care, he just wanted to leave already.
But luckily with some kind of odd, broken chant from the adult male that they read off of a strange book, the same circle appeared below him again. Once again, he tried to move his foot to no avail, making Kalego let out a miffed huff. He wasn’t such a fan of that part, to think there was actually something these trash could do to prevent him from moving.
When the getting-eaten-by-the-floor part started to occur, the human child screamed and began flailing about. Annoyed at the noisiness, Kalego placed a firm hand on its shoulder, forcing it to stay still. The contact made the child quickly shut up with a small squeak. Good. At least it wasn’t as stupid as its parents. Ah, speaking of its parents…
“I almost forgot,” Kalego looked over to fools still practically drooling over his money. With a smirk, he snapped, resulting in the disappearance of the pile as a whole. And just for good measure, he also completely obliterated the book they had read off from with some flames. The two older humans sputtered and whipped their heads over to him, a look of horror and betrayal on their faces. To think they made that expression only after losing money, and not their offspring.
“I never said you could keep the money.” He had said he'd be taking the item, not purchasing it.
Watching them scramble up to stop him but ultimately failing made the pounding headache following their teleportation all the more bearable.
Now then… he was back in Babyls, papers scattered across the floor and an illegal human child by his side. Why did troublesome things always fall onto him?
Whatever, this was no place to stand around regretting his decisions thus far. This creature was practically live bait for monsters and demons alike, with a smell this strong they'd have demons swarming them within minutes. While Kalego would have no problem dealing with a couple—or even a hundred—fledglings, he didn't want to bother with it.
"You're certainly more trouble than you're worth…" He grumbled, glancing down at the child who blanched and shied away. Kalego promptly snatched it by the collar of its shirt, lifting it up and ignoring the small 'eep!' it let out.
"Alright, let's go. Scream and I'll kill you."
