Work Text:
The rain tonight feels like pins and needles on the skin of his hands as he nervously makes his way down the street, counting his footsteps as they land on the pavement below in solid thunk thunk thunks . Mikey isn’t sure why he thought he could brave the bitter cold November rain of Jersey without a coat, but he was too far into his walk to turn back now. The tips of his fingers itch for something to hold, his lips thirst for something to pinch between them, and his lungs desire for that sweet, burning rush from a long drag. He hasn’t smoked in 41 days, not that he’s counting, and nothing seems more perfect right now than a back-alley smoke in the rain.
Rounding the final corner standing in the way of his destination, his eyes fall on a sight that instantly sends a rush of calming energy through his brain: Gerard. Gerard is here, waiting in the rain without so much as a sweatshirt hood over his head to protect his hair from the water.
“Hey!” Mikey shouts down the path, instantly catching Gerard’s attention. He beams at his little brother, a wide and easy smile overtaking his features as he shakes his wet bangs away from his face. Mikey giggles and shakes his head, awestruck with the ease that Gerard seemed to experience the world once Mikey entered his line of sight.
“Missed you, Mikes!” Gerard smiles, walking away from the door to the bar and meeting Mikey half-way in a slightly warm, albeit most definitely wet , hug.
“You saw me two weeks ago,” Mikey chastises, although he has no room to argue. Every second he spent without Gerard in the time off after they finished recording had seemed to drag on for hours, making these weeks feel longer than Mikey is comfortable being without his brother. Well, if he’s being honest with himself, Mikey would be most comfortable if Gerard was with him all the time. “And we leave for tour in, what, two more?”
Gerard lets out a sweet sigh as he squeezes Mikey closer to his chest, the hug lasting longer than it probably should for two brothers in public, and mumbles a playful, “Still too long.”
