The Beginning and the End

April 24, 01:27 AM

High Prosecutor’s Office

Room 1202

A swift blow was dealt to the infamous prosecutor, Miles Edgeworth. The Demon Attorney had seen many cases in which the victim succumbed to blunt force trauma impacting their head, and now, he too had become one of them. His now lifeless body fell to the floor all too suddenly as his world turned dark for the last time.

It was pretty late at night, and finishing my duties to lock up, I checked in on Mr. Edgeworth’s office. Earlier that night, he told me not to lock up at the usual time. Fearing for my salary and position, I decided to wait it out in the staff room and nap. After my alarm for his allotted time slot had rung, I walked upstairs to check if he had either left or was finishing up shortly.

As I walked closer and closer to Mr. Edgeworth’s office, I began to notice a metallic scent. Although it was out of place, it didn’t bother me too much, and thinking nothing of it, I trudged forward. I slowly, yet carefully, opened the door.

“Sir, are you still in here?” I asked from the doorway.

No response.

I walked further into the room, and then I saw it. Blood lay collecting in a pile beneath a body. I rushed over to the light switch, flipped it on, and as soon as the light hit my eyes, I screamed.

It was a bloodied corpse.

Dick Gumshoe ascended the stairs of the Prosecutor’s Building up to the twelfth story. After pacing down the hallways, he stopped at room 1202.

Blood. There was no mistaking the unique scent.

He hastily began to try and break down the locked door. After a few minutes of his struggle, he finally managed to break open the door.

Two bodies lay on the ground – one severely bleeding and another one only seeming to have been knocked out.

Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth was dead.

No, no, no… This can’t be happening! My heart rate jolted upwards, and I ran towards the two bodies. I flipped over Mr. Edgeworth’s body to find disturbingly, and all too real, large lacerations scattered across his body.

I rushed out of the room, leaping down the stairs, and with my phone in my pocket, I dialed the police.

“Los Angeles Police Department, How can I help you?”

“This is Homicide Detective Dick Gumshoe, I’m at the local Prosecutor’s Building, and I’ve… I’ve just found a dead body. There’s also another body which only seems to be unconscious.”

“We’re sending local police to your area as soon as possible.”

“Thank you.”

After a few minutes had passed, I heard the sirens. The police surged through the doors and quickly moved to preserve the crime scene. All I could do was sit back and watch.

Wright & Co Law Offices

No new cases had come in after their most recent client, Iris Hawthorne. Phoenix lay sleeping in a feeble attempt to distract himself from the ever-approaching office rent. Maya and Pearl were watching the latest episode of The Pink Princess: Warrior of Little Olde Tokyo .

Dramatic sound effects echoed through the office as Maya and Pearl eagerly awaited for the heroine to land a finishing blow on the Evil Magistrate.

“You can’t escape Evil Magistrate! I will finish y-”

“We interrupt this program to bring you breaking news.” Instantly, a news anchor appeared on the TV.

“Awwww! Now we can’t watch the ending of the Pink Princess!” exclaimed Maya.

“This morning, well-known and renowned Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth, aged 26, was found dead in his office in the Los Angeles Prosecutor’s Building. For more details, please check out Channel 106.1. ”

Silence struck Maya as Pearl, in unison, watched in horror.

Maya rushed over to Nick’s desk and shook him awake.

“Nick, Nick!”

After no response, she shouted, “Phoenix!”

“What, what? I’m up,” groggily responded Phoenix.

“You need to check this out,” she cried out urgently, pulling him towards the TV.

She grabbed the remote from the nearby coffee table and frantically changed the channel to 106.1.

“This morning, in the Prosecutor’s Building in Los Angeles, the High Prosecutor, Miles Edgeworth, was found dead. Police apprehended Garfield Dan on account of the murder of Mr. Edgeworth. The local police force arrived on the sc-”

“You have to be joking, Maya… Don’t tell me this is real.”

“Nick, I wouldn’t joke about something like this.”

“So Edgeworth… is really dead?”
