Chapter Text

“I should say something.” Kaveh looks back at the place he calls home. Well, he wouldn’t call it home now after he finished packing everything up. He took the paintings, souvenirs, and trinkets he scattered around the place to make it feel like home at the time.

“A waste of space and money.” He would argue instead that it made his house feel better to live in, thank you very much. The furniture was back to the way there were before, against the wall leaving a whole lot of nothing at the center. When he first started living here, Kaveh managed to tolerate the complete lack of nothing for exactly a month then one day he used up all his savings just to fix everything. That day ended with another argument but at this point, he was used to it.

They never did agree on anything. That is at least what Kaveh thinks. If Haitham were to be asked, he would say that they agreed on things that are actually important. Not that Kaveh himself knows about it.

And with that, of course, disagreements arise. Especially when two very different people live under one roof. Even if they talk to each other on the bare minimum one wrong look can lead to some of the neighbors trying to listen in. But it wasn’t all that there was to it.

Sometimes, the silence can be louder than their explosive clashes. Sometimes, it can just be a bad day for the architect. A proposal immediately rejected, a client clearly thinking they were more important than they actually were, Kaveh could have experienced all of it. He knows how to deal with it, but there are moments when some words hit him harder than he anticipated.

Sometimes, old wounds reopen and he has no choice but to hide away in his room. With too many thoughts branching into new ones, he forgets to lock the door leaving an oversight as an invitation. Kaveh didn’t know why Haitham knelt and opened his arms before him without saying a word, but he didn’t complain. Those kinds of nights felt bizarre but needed.

And it only took a couple of days before they were at each other’s throats again.

He feels a tear drip down as he realizes he has gone down memory lane again. Kaveh couldn’t help but reminisce as he walked around the dimly lit house, making sure that everything was in place. The ugly painting near his room was now back in its original position. The single sitar that was left to its lonesome at the corner. He also made sure that he didn’t leave anything important.

He hopes that everything goes over smoothly. Kaveh eyes the hefty sum of mora at the table with a little note. Okay, he admits that the note spans several pages. And he also hopes that the words written are enough to satisfy the person just sleeping in the other room.

As he would not be there, or have the courage to tell it to Haitham face to face.
