Chapter Text
Eden College was abuzz with the spirit of competition. The annual Eden Cup was more than just a tradition. The stakes were high; the winning team would earn a coveted free day off from school. The courtyard echoed with the lively chatter of students as they swapped strategies and teamed up, all in the spirit of camaraderie and competition.
Damian Desmond, with his trademark confidence, strode through the crowd, flanked by his loyal friends Ewen and Emile. With his striking looks, unmatched intellect, and athletic prowess, he was the unofficial prince of the campus. His friends, Ewen and Emile, were ever-present at his side, their loyalty unwavering as they navigated the sea of students.
As the team groupings were announced, a hush fell over the crowd. “Desmond's team,” the voice boomed, and a chorus of excited whispers followed. A small group of girls, who adored Damian from afar, couldn’t contain their glee. They had formed an unofficial fan club, and the prospect of being led by Damian sent them into a frenzy of excitement.
Across the courtyard stood Anya Forger, her presence unassuming yet unmistakable. Her best friend, Becky Blackbell, leaned in close, sharing a conspiratorial grin. “This is going to be fun,” Becky said, her eyes gleaming with anticipation.
The moment Damian’s and Anya’s teams were announced, the air crackled with the tension of an unspoken rivalry. Team Desmond, with its charismatic leader and his entourage, was the team to beat. But Anya, with her quiet confidence and Becky’s sass, was not to be underestimated.
Damian, Ewen, and Emile approached Anya and Becky, who were reviewing the event list. “I hope you’re ready to lose Shrimp.” Damian declared, trying to sound intimidating but the hint of a blush betrayed his cool exterior.
Anya’s response was swift and playful. “We’ll see about that, Sy-on Boy.” The nickname always manages to get under his skin, yet he couldn’t deny the small thrill it gave him.
Ewen and Emile jumped to Damian’s defense. “Bossman’s got brains and brawn. You don’t stand a chance!” they boasted, puffing out their chests.
Becky rolled her eyes, her sass as sharp as her fashion sense. “Please, the only thing you’ll be winning is a participation trophy.”
The banter escalated into a playful bickering match between Ewen, Emile, and Becky, each one throwing jibes with the precision of a seasoned debater.
Amidst the chaos, Anya turned to Damian, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “Good luck, Sy-on Boy. You’re going to need it,” she teased, her voice a mix of challenge and cheer.
Damian felt a surge of determination. Anya’s challenge was like a spark to his competitive flame. “We’ll just see about that,” he replied, the words more of a promise than a retort.
