Work Text:

In the quiet halls of the Red Keep at night, where whispers of old secrets echoed off stone walls, Aemond Targaryen found himself drawn to his uncle Daemon like a moth to flame. It had always been like that, since the same moment Vaemond Velaryon's head came right off in one clean strike. The legendary Rogue Prince, the epitome of strength and power — a warrior brave enough to walk through dragon fire. The burn mark scars on his neck served as a reminder, ones that Aemond oft fantasized of tracing his fingers across.

With one maimed blind eye serving as a constant reminder of his own perceived inadequacies, Aemond had always harbored insecurities about himself, feeling like an outsider even among his own kin. Yet, in Daemon, he found a kindred spirit, a man who seemed to understand the weight of expectation and the burden of legacy. They were both damaged, in their own ways. That was something the young prince found solace in, someone that could understand his pain well enough albeit live with it and thrive in life.

Their connection began innocently enough, with sparring sessions that soon evolved into something deeper. Two years of training together had forged a bond between them, a bond that transcended mere kinship. In the heat of combat, Aemond felt a sense of liberation, his fears and insecurities melting away with each swing of the blade. And in the quiet moments between bouts, he found solace in Daemon's presence, the older man's steady gaze offering a rare sense of acceptance and understanding.

Something his own father failed to provide him his entire life.

As they grew closer, Aemond couldn't deny the growing attraction he felt towards Daemon. It was a dangerous game they played, one that defied the boundaries of loyalty and duty. After all, Daemon was married to Rhaenyra, Aemond's own half-sister and the supposed heir to the throne, and their union was supposed to be sacred. But whispers of Daemon's infidelity had long circulated through the halls and streets of Kingslanding, and Aemond couldn't help but wonder if there was more to their connection than mere physical attraction.

Was it really anything special, or was he merely just another one of Daemon's playthings?

Conflicted and confused, Aemond found himself grappling with emotions he had long suppressed. He had always felt like an outsider, a flawed reflection of his illustrious ancestors, but with Daemon, he felt seen in a way he never had before. And so, with each passing day, their relationship deepened, their spars becoming a dance of shared secrets and unspoken desires. And when the moment finally came, when Aemond found the courage to get closer, he was met with a surprising revelation—Daemon closed the distance between them and pressed their lips together, their warm breaths mixing with one another.

And so, amidst the shadows of the courtyard, their love blossomed, a forbidden flame burning bright in the darkness.

As Daemon's relationship with Aemond deepened, it became increasingly apparent to those around them that he was spending more time with his nephew than with his own children. Baela and Rhaena, Daemon's twin daughters, watched with narrowed eyes as their father's attention seemed to drift away from them and towards Aemond. They exchanged knowing glances, their expressions filled with resentment and suspicion.

For Aemond, the sudden focus from his uncle was both exhilarating and perplexing. He couldn't help but wonder why Daemon had chosen him, out of all his nephews and nieces, to lavish his attention upon. After all, Aemond was the most troubled and overlooked of the bunch, his eye serving as a constant reminder of his perceived shortcomings. Yet, despite his doubts, Aemond found himself feeling oddly special, unable to resist the allure of his uncle's charisma and charm.

In the quiet moments they shared together, Aemond couldn't shake the nagging feeling that there was more to Daemon's intentions than met the eye. He was careful, always mindful of the boundaries that separated them, but deep down, there lingered a sense of naivety, a belief that Daemon wouldn't invest so much time and effort into their relationship unless it somehow benefited him.

For the most part, Aemond believed it to be for the sex. He let Daemon have his way with him more often than not, even allowing him to spend the night in his bed. Given his uncle's past relationship history, one couldn't be at fault for assuming Daemon had a kink of sorts.

Were the whores not exotic enough for him anymore? Mayhaps he wanted something more forbidden, more exciting.

He often teased Aemond for being too proper and a dutiful son, a mommy's boy. It became one of his more frequently used jokes, taking jabs at his nephew when they were alone together in bed and testing his patience. Breaking him out of that cycle seemed to be satisfying for both parties involved.

Daemon enjoyed defiling the golden son, — Aemond enjoyed rebelling against his own nature and letting loose every once in a while.

As the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months, Aemond found himself entangled in a web of conflicting emotions. He craved Daemon's attention and approval, yet he couldn't shake the feeling that he was being used as a pawn in some larger game. And as he watched Daemon's daughters shoot him dirty looks from across the room, he couldn't help but wonder if they saw something he didn't—something dark and sinister lurking beneath the surface of their uncle's affections.

Underneath the blanket of the night sky, Aemond and Daemon found themselves on the deserted beach, the only witnesses of the stars above and the whispers of the waves below. The moon cast a silvery glow upon the sand, turning it into a canvas of ethereal beauty.

With the gentle lull of the ocean as their soundtrack, they strolled hand in hand along the shoreline, their footsteps leaving imprints that would soon be washed away by the tide. In the quiet of the night, their laughter seemed to echo against the vast expanse of the sea, mingling with the distant cry of seabirds.

As they found a secluded spot to sit, Daemon's eyes sparkled with mischief as he settled onto the sand, patting the space beside him for Aemond to join.

"The winds seem to be getting colder." Daemon remarked, his gaze fixed on the star-studded sky.

Aemond nodded, feeling a sense of wonder wash over him as he settled beside his uncle. "I like it here, away from court and everything else," he replied softly, his eyes reflecting the shimmering light of the moon above.

But it was when Daemon began to hum a soft melody, his voice a gentle caress against the night air, that Aemond felt his heart skip a beat.

"Do you know this tune, Aemond?" Daemon asked, his voice warm and inviting.

Aemond shook his head, captivated by the sound of Daemon's voice. "No, but it's poetic," he murmured, feeling a sense of peace settle over him in that moment.

With each note that hung in the air, Aemond felt himself drawn closer to Daemon, the warmth of their shared moment enveloping him like a comforting embrace.

And as the melody faded into the night, Aemond found himself leaning in, his lips brushing against Daemon's in a tender kiss that spoke volumes more than words ever could.

In that fleeting moment, as they stood beneath the canopy of stars, Aemond knew that he had found something truly special—a love that burned bright even in the darkest of nights, a love worth cherishing for all eternity. And as they held each other close, their hearts beating as one, Aemond felt a sense of peace settle over him—a feeling that, no matter what the future held, they would face it together, hand in hand, under the watchful gaze of the moon.

As the melody of the night faded into the background, Daemon's gaze lingered on Aemond, a silent question hanging between them. Without a word, he shifted closer, his movements slow and deliberate, until their breaths mingled in the cool night air. And then, with a tenderness that belied the urgency of his desire, Daemon leaned in, capturing Aemond's lips in a kiss that set his soul ablaze.

The softness of the sand beneath them gave way to the weight of Daemon's body pressing down on him, and Aemond found himself sinking into the warmth of their embrace. His heart raced with a heady mixture of excitement and anticipation, his senses overwhelmed by the intoxicating closeness of their bodies entwined.

But as their passion ignited, a stray thought crossed Aemond's mind, a fleeting concern amidst the whirlwind of emotions. "Wait," he murmured between kisses, pulling back slightly to gaze up at Daemon with a playful pout. "I don't want sand in my hair."

Daemon chuckled, the sound like music to Aemond's ears, as he brushed a strand of hair away from Aemond's face. "Then I suppose we'll have to be careful, won't we?" he teased, his fingers tracing lazy circles along Aemond's cheek.

With a soft sigh, Aemond surrendered to the moment, his doubts and worries melting away in the warmth of Daemon's touch. He wrapped his arms around Daemon's neck, pulling him closer as they kissed beneath the moonlit sky, the taste of salt and sea lingering on their lips.

And as Daemon held him close, Aemond felt a sense of peace wash over him, a feeling of belonging that he had longed for his entire life. In that moment, with the sound of the waves as their only witness, he knew that he was exactly where he was meant to be—wrapped in the arms of the man he loved, with nothing but the endless expanse of the ocean stretching out before them.

As the passion between them was about to reach its peak, Aemond felt a warmth blossoming in his abdomen, a sensation he initially attributed to the heat of their embrace and the intensity of their desire. But as the warmth spread, mingling with the fire that raged within him, Aemond's senses sharpened, and he felt a cold dread seeping into his bones.

With a gasp, he pulled away from Daemon, his eyes widening in shock as he looked down at himself. There, amidst the swirl of sand and moonlight, he saw it—the glint of Valyrian steel buried deep in his flesh, a dagger plunged into his abdomen without warning or reason.

Confusion clouded his mind as he struggled to make sense of what was happening. How could this be? They had been lost in the throes of passion just moments before, their bodies entwined in a dance of love and desire. And now, this sudden betrayal, this act of violence that seemed to defy all logic and reason.

With trembling hands, Aemond reached for the dagger, his fingers closing around the hilt as he wanted to pull it free from his body with a sharp intake of breath. Blood welled from the wound, staining the sand beneath him crimson as he stared up at Daemon, his eyes filled with a mixture of disbelief and accusation.

"Uncle?" he whispered, the word barely a breath as it escaped his lips. "Why would you do this to me?"

But there was no answer, only the sound of the waves crashing against the shore and the hollow echo of Aemond's own heartbeat. And as darkness crept into the edges of his vision, he realized with a sinking heart that some questions would never be answered—that some betrayals cut deeper than the sharpest blade.

While the darkness closed in around him, Aemond's gaze remained fixed on his uncle's face, the man he had dared to believe might offer him solace from the relentless solitude that had plagued his existence. In the dim light of the moon, Daemon's features twisted into a grotesque mockery of the affection Aemond had once thought he saw there.

For years, Aemond had been haunted by the suffocating weight of his loneliness, a constant companion in the halls of that dirty castle. He had yearned for connection, for acceptance, for a love that would banish the inner demons that clung to him like a second skin. And in Daemon's arms, he had glimpsed a glimmer of that elusive hope—a fragile promise of warmth and understanding in a world that had always felt cold and indifferent.

But now, as the dagger tore through his insides, ripping away the fragile illusion of love he had so desperately clung to, Aemond felt a different kind of darkness descend upon him—a heartache born not of solitude, but of betrayal and despair. He had dared to believe that he might find refuge in Daemon's embrace, only to have that hope cruelly dashed in the cruelest manner imaginable.

As the pain seared through his body, Aemond's mind reeled with disbelief and anguish. How could he have been so foolish, so naïve, to believe that he could ever find salvation in the arms of another? He had been alone all his life, and now, in his final moments, that truth loomed over him like a specter, mocking his every futile attempt at connection.

And so, as the life drained from his body on the desolate shores of that forsaken beach, Aemond knew with a chilling certainty that his death would be a lonely one—a pitiful end to a life marked by endless solitude and unfulfilled longing. And as he drew his last ragged breath, he closed his eyes, the release of death swallowing him whole, leaving behind nothing but the bitter taste of regret and the hollow echo of a love that had never been.

As the waves lapped gently against the shore, Daemon's hand found its way to Aemond's head, his touch tender and comforting despite the blade still buried in his nephew's abdomen. There was a twisted tenderness in the gesture, a paradoxical display of affection amidst the chaos of betrayal.

With a gentle stroke of his fingers through Aemond's long hair, Daemon leaned in, his lips hovering just above his nephew's. There was a conflict within him—a part that had grown fond of Aemond, admiring the resilience and determination hidden beneath the surface, and yet, another part that remained resolute in its allegiance to the cause they fought for.

In that moment, as he brushed his lips against Aemond's, Daemon couldn't help but feel a pang of remorse for what he had done. Aemond was more than just a pawn in the game of thrones; he was family, blood of his blood, and now, he lay broken and bleeding at his feet.

But even as Daemon's heart ached with a twinge of guilt, he knew that he had made his choice—a choice that would shape the fate of kingdoms and seal the fate of those caught in its wake. Aemond was a threat to the cause he believed in, a danger that could not be ignored, and so, he had been eliminated, sacrificed on the altar of ambition and power.

And as Daemon pulled away from the kiss, his gaze lingered on Aemond's face, a silent farewell to the nephew he had grown strangely fond of, even as he lay dying in the sand. It was a cruel irony, a testament to the brutal nature of the world they lived in, where love and loyalty were mere casualties in the never-ending struggle for supremacy.

With a heavy heart, Daemon rose to his feet, leaving Aemond behind on the desolate beach, a casualty of a war that had claimed more than it had ever given. And as he disappeared into the darkness of the night, his footsteps fading into the sand, he knew that the memory of Aemond would haunt him forever—a ghost of the past, a reminder of the price they had paid for power and glory.

Notes:

I swear these fics are just vents from my own suffering irl. I gotta dump all that trauma on Aemond of course and self-project.
