Chapter Text

"Lower your blade, Brother."

The white-hot sword of Illumina was pressed against Zuka's throat, ashen gray scarf becoming singed with the burning hot light of the weapon.

A disgustingly nervous and terrified snarl was twisted onto the ex-soldier's face, pupils blown wide and sweat beading down the back of his neck.

Illumina's blank and empty eyes met the equally empty green lenses of his fellow deity across the empty space. Almost a no-man's land, something not one would dare to cross.

"Illumina."

"Venomshank."

"There is no need to-" Venomshank's sentence was cut off by a cold chuckle.

"We all know he's our favorite," Illumina's gear was pressed tighter to Zuka's neck, forcing a grunt out of the gray demon. "But I think you've taken a particular.....liking, to him."

"Let him go." Venomshank's voice faltered severely, cracks in his facade showing. "There is no need to bring Zuka into our fight."

A gray horn was grabbed by an impossibly pale fist, Zuka's head being tugged back as his face scrunched into a wince.

"I do what it takes to win, Brother." The deity of light spoke through gritted teeth.

"Now, Zuka. Say something." Illumina leaned into Zuka's shoulder, whispering into his ear.

The masked deity trembled with rage at this, yet he was frozen.

"..."

"....Ain't sayin' shit, Light-bulb." Zuka finally growled out. The blade was tilted against his throat yet again, the white-hot light nicking at his neck and burning it.

"Then let those be your last words, B. Zuka..." Illumina trailed off, No hint of emotion behind those glassy eyes.

"They will not be!-" Venomshank growled, taking one step forward. He was prepared to kill someone who was supposed to be his family, who was supposed to rule alongside him.

He could feel copious amounts of pure, acidic venom dripping out of his mouth and pooling inside of his mask. He was angry and terrified.

Zuka was the man Venomshank loved. To the point of obsession. To the point of destruction.

His blade was drawn, muscles taught like a string about to snap, adrenaline and pure anger coursing through his veins like acid.

Then he felt his whole world crumble right in front of him.

It was so unceremonious for Illumina. Their blade slit the side of the ex-soldier's neck, burning hot light immediately torching more of the skin away and leaving a gaping wound.

Illumina pulled back when Zuka began spittling up blood, unable to suck in a breath. They don't want this mortal's disgusting blood all over his robes.

It was near instant. Venomshank was right by Zuka's side, Immediately pulling him into his arms and mumbling out a thousand prayers in a language only he himself could understand.

Illumina laughed. A cold and empty sound.

"May this be your lesson to never love something that can be so fragile." Illumina spit at the ground, before disappearing in a flurry of light and feathers.

"No- Nonononononono- NO!-" A sob tore it's way through the masked deity's throat, Hand immediately clamping over Zuka's neck to help stop the bleeding.

The blood stained his gloves, sickeningly bright against the deep brown.

Venomshank's forehead rested against Zuka's; Staring into those gorgeous blue-tinted eyes he'd come to love. To associate with everything good in the world.

He felt so cold already.

"I am going to get you out of this, It was my fault- You should not have been brought into this, My dearest. Ghostwalker would- No, will- Revive you if you die and if he will not, fucking curse me because I will do it myself."

Zuka sputtered up more blood, in a attempt to speak. It was everywhere at this point. Seeping into his clothes and staining them a disgusting blue.

Both of them were drenched in blood and it was barely registering to the ex-soldier that it was his own. His head was fuzzy, the world distorting around him.

"My dearest, My love- My whole world, Do not leave me. Do not leave my side! I need you more than the air I breath!"

Zuka was getting colder by the second, But Venomshank felt frozen. The god could not die, true, But this was something...Ever so close to death. Having your beloved wretched away from you like it was nothing. Like what was here meant nothing to the Inphinity and above.

In the moment, his head was latching onto everything around him. The deep indigo of Zuka's blood mixing in with the greys of his jacket and scarf could be called strangely beautiful.

It was beautiful because this was his husband, and everything about his husband was so overwhelmingly gorgeous to him.

Even as the light faded from his eyes and Zuka choked on his own blood in the approximation of his last, rattling breath;

It was so beautiful. Because it was the man he loved, and the man he loved would always be beautiful.

Venomshank was trembling as he held the cold body of his lover, tears spilling from his eyes as he looked up to the sky and screamed.

A rolling storm swirled and brewed in the grey skies around them, Clouds crashing like waves. Crows cawed and thunder roared like a vengeful beast, Lighting was crackling through the clouds and it was the same venomous green as the god's tears. A thousand plagues were bound to reign hellfire on the innocent, and the dead would rise from their graves like a bullet through glass.

I loved you to the point of Armageddon.
