Work Text:
Hiccup sat on the couch with his laptop on his lap, typing something and then immediately clicking the delete button. He’s been at this for a while, staring at the word document with two hundred words. Still needing four thousand eight hundred words in order to submit the stupid essay.
In the corner of his eye, he watches his best friend rummaging through something in her bag.
“What are you looking for?” He asks, ignoring the flickering of the vertical line on the screen. Astrid grunts, aggressively throwing books and pens to the side as she sticks her hand inside the bag.
“I’m trying to find my chapstick. My lips feel like the Sahara!”
He watched her struggle for a while before she finally found the tiny cylinder-shaped stick that was hidden in one of the many pockets in her bag.
“Yes! Finally!”
Astrid pops off the cap only to throw the whole thing in the trash.
“Um, good shot?” Hiccup says when she throws the chapstick in the kitchen bin. She only frowned and grunted.
“I ran out of chapstick!”
Hiccup was in need of a break and letting him procrastinate more, he suggested walking to the nearest convenience store, getting her chapstick, and buying some snacks while they were there. That way Astrid could be happy, didn’t have to complain about her chapped lips, and get food. While Hiccup gets to do his essay later and also gets food. A win, win.
“Yes! Let’s go!” She stood up quickly, the contents of her bag lay forgotten on the floor while dragging Hiccup along to the front door. He stumbled up, gently trying to place his laptop down on the coffee table.

“Ugh seriously?” They arrived at the convenience store but the chapstick Astrid wanted wasn’t in stock.
“Why aren’t there any unflavored chapsticks left!?” She looked over the shelf multiple times making sure she didn’t skip any products in case she didn’t see her preferred flavor.
“Why does it have to be unflavored? There are many flavors to choose from.” Hiccup suggested, not quite understanding.
She sighed and turned to him.
“I don’t like how some taste on my lips. I just like the plain ones better.” Sometimes when she looked at him, he swears her eyes get all bright and sparkly. He catches himself staring and quickly tries to come up with something to say.
“Well, maybe you should try something new?” He glanced over the selection, spotting a random flavor.
“Like, cherry maybe?” He just hoped she didn’t have plans to slit his throat open, with the mood she was having he really hoped to get through this alive.
“Yeah, you’re right. I’m being picky.” Hiccup sighed in relief, as she put the suggested flavor into the basket.
“So, what snacks should we get?”
——
Back at the apartment, sitting at the same spots as they sat before they left, was a Hiccup who still had an unfinished essay due, and sitting beside him was a content Astrid with no longer chapped lips.
“Oh wow this actually tastes good,” she says applying the product to her lips. Hiccup turns to her and watches. At that time the sparkles in her eyes appeared. Maybe it was because of the one-sided feelings or just some late hormonal thing.
“Yeah? Can I try?” He asks handing his hand out. Sharing a chapstick wasn’t anything weird. They’ve shared multiple drinks and food during their friendship. It was a normal thing to them.
“Yeah sure” She gives the chapstick to him, not quite paying attention to his actions. Busy opening a bag of chips on her lap but stopping right before tearing the corner off with her teeth.
Confused about why he hasn’t taken it yet she turns to face him meeting his lips on the way. Hiccup had his eyes closed and the little kiss lasted for about two seconds before he leaned back.
“You’re right, it does taste good” he grinned looking back at his work. His fingers shaking while trying to play it cool and pretending to type something important on the screen. Astrid hasn’t moved, her face still in a state of shock. Shit, he should’ve kept to himself.
She grabbed him by the collar, and a yelp was heard. Here comes the part where she slits his throat open. It’s been nice knowing her.
“You can’t just kiss me like that and not wait for me to kiss you back!” Compared to Hiccup's confused but scared expression on his face, hers was all red.
“Wha-“
He shut up as soon as the blonde pulled him back into a kiss.
