Chapter Text
Every day in Paris is a beautiful day- that’s what everybody who visits will tell you. And it’s true; Paris is incredibly beautiful. Though, it’s at the peak of its beauty during the summertime.
And even though his birthday was during the summer, this was only the third time he’d ever actually experienced being in summer. He’d been locked inside all the years before, so he never got the chance.
Currently, he was walking through the warm Paris streets, grocery bag in hand and a smile on his face. He recognized only a few of the people he came by, and he made sure to greet them.
To a bystander, he would look just like any other normal person; except that there was something different about him. Instead of human ears, he had the ears of a cat; combined with the eyes and tail to match. There were other things, but those were more internal.
There were many other animal hybrids in Paris though, so it wasn’t too strange to see him walking down the street. It wasn’t like anybody was mean to him or anything- of course, there were always a few bad apples, and sometimes he would get cat-called (pun intended) by a drunkard or a woman on the street, but he shrugged those all off. He didn’t care as much anymore about things like that.
“Excuse me.” He stopped walking to look at the woman who’d called out to him. He took a quick second to smell her scent to try and figure out her intentions. She smelt confused- was she lost?
“Hello.” He turned his full body towards her. “Do you need something?”
“Yes, I’m trying to get to the post office, but I can’t figure out where it is…” The woman glanced down at a map in her hands hopelessly.
He smiled. “I know where that is. Let me walk you there.”
“A-Are you sure? I wouldn’t want to be a bother- you could just give me directions.”
“Nonsense.” He waved his free hand. “It’s on my way. I won’t be exerting any more effort than I normally would. It would be my pleasure.”
“Alright, if you say so. Thank you, mister.” The woman gave him a small grin before walking over to his side. Once she was beside him, he started walking again, and she followed.
“So, why do you need to go to the post office?” He asked, trying to start up a conversation for their walk. Otherwise it would be really awkward.
“My son sent me a package and I’m supposed to pick it up. Though I’m not very good with directions, and I get lost a lot.”
He chuckled. “I see. Does your son live somewhere else?”
“He does. Nowhere too far- just a different city in France. There was a college with more opportunities there, so he moved.”
He hummed, readjusting his bag of groceries so he could better carry it. “How is it?”
“His college?”
“No.” He gave a light shake of his head. “Having a child.”
“Oh.” She seemed surprised for a moment, but then recovered just as quickly. “It’s pretty hard at times, but it’s always rewarding. Are you planning on having kids of your own someday…uh…oh my, I just realized we never exchanged names! I’m Marguerite Duras!”
He chuckled, briefly thinking about how pretty Marguerite was. Despite her gray hair, she still looked young. If he had to guess, she was probably in her mid 30’s early 40’s. "Nice to meet you, Miss Marguerite. My name is Osamu Nakahara-Dazai."
"What an interesting name!" It was clear that Marguerite wanted to say more, but she probably didn't want to pry.
"Yes, I hear that quite a bit when meeting new people. My husband, Chuuya Nakahara, and I moved here three years ago. We've been married for one."
Marguerite made a confused face. "How come your last name is different from your husband's?"
"I kept my mother's name." Osamu replied simply. "It's…a personal reason for me, but to put it simply, she meant a lot to me, and I want to keep a part of her by my side."
"I see. Is your husband alright with that?"
"Yes, he is. He understands perfectly. And to answer your previous question about kids, Miss Marguerite…I might want to talk to him about that."
After helping her find the post office, he quickly made his way home. First, he had groceries that he needed to put away, and second, he needed to have an important talk with his partner.
Opening the door, Osamu made his arrival known with a song. "I'm hoooome! My darling!"
Chuuya, who was cleaning up near the kitchen, turned his head. "Welcome home! Did the run go well? Did you get everything?"
"I did!" Osamu stopped singing as he closed the door and slipped his shoes off, being careful not to let any groceries spill. "Now Chuuya can make dinner!"
Once he crossed over into the kitchen and placed the bag on the counter, Chuuya grabbed his wrist and pulled him closer, delivering a quick kiss to his cheek. "Thank you, Osamu. What would I do without you?"
"You'd still be single, for one." He quickly replied, pulling out of Chuuya's grasp so he could go into their living room. "I'm the only one who could handle Chuuya's lack of height!"
"Oi!" Chuuya followed after him. "I'm not that short! Bastard!"
Osamu turned around dramatically as he sat down on their couch. "My, Chuuya! Is that any way to speak to your dear husband?"
"Maybe I wouldn't speak to my dear husband that way if he'd stop ridiculing me all the time." Chuuya replied, sitting down next to him.
"But where's the fun in that? Chuua's hot when he's all riled up."
Chuuya scoffed. "You are seriously weird, you know that?"
“You love me that way.”
“True.” Chuuya reached over and took his left hand so he could admire the beautiful (and incredibly expensive) golden wedding ring complete with a red jewel. Chuuya had a matching one on his left hand, except his gemstone was blue. “There’s nobody else in the world quite like you, Osamu.”
“That’s good to know! That means Chuuya will stay by my side forever!”
Chuuya grinned. “You know it.”
The room went quiet as Chuuya continued to admire their rings. He had quite a habit of doing that- he said he liked seeing the physical reminder that they were really together now. Osamu could understand it, so he never made fun of him.
Besides, right now he was a bit preoccupied trying to figure out how to bring up the topic he wanted to discuss. Maybe he should just blurt it out; Chuuya was straightforward like that, anyway.
“Um, Chuuya?” He saw his husband’s eyes glance back up at him, confused and a bit worried, since Osamu said ‘um’. He usually doesn’t mess up like that.
“Yeah?” His voice was softer now. Even after all this time, he was still constantly concerned about Osamu’s mental health.
“There’s something I’ve been wanting to bring up to you for a while, but never found the time…” His ears tilted back in worry. He didn’t know how well this would go. Was it still too early?
“What is it? You can tell me anything, sweetheart.” Chuuya assured him with a light squeeze of his hand. Osamu smiled at the gesture.
“I know.” He replied, before taking a quick moment to breathe and settle his festering nerves. “Well, my heat is going to start any day now…”
“Yes…”
“And we’ve been married for a year now…”
“Yes…” Chuuya said again, leaning in a bit. He was really curious now.
Osamu changed his gaze to look down at his lap. He was feeling really awkward all of a sudden. “So we’re both twenty-five now…”
“Yes…”
“And so, I was wondering if…you’d…well…” It was hard to gather his thoughts. How should he put this plainly? What was the right thing to say!?
Curling his free hand into a fist, he shoved down all of his worries, flipped his head around, and stared his husband in the eyes. “Chuuya, I’m ready to have kittens with you!”
The reaction was instant; Chuuya’s eyes went as wide as the moon, and at first he leaned back to process, but then leaned right back in. “Are you serious?”
“Yes.” Now that it got out, he wasn’t as nervous anymore. “I’ve been thinking over it for a week or so by now, and I’m ready. But if Chuuya still needs-”
Before he could get the rest of a sentence out, Chuuya shot his other hand forward, completely enshrouding Dazai’s. “No!” He exclaimed, quickly lowering his voice. “No- I, uh…I’m…ready, too. If you really want it, then…yeah.”
“Yeah?” Osamu’s ears turned back to their regular position. “Does Chuuya mean that? He’ll try with me? This coming week? Really?”
“Really.” Chuuya nodded his head. “We’re doing really well, Osamu. We have a good house, good money, good neighbors, a good relationship; I think we’re more than ready for this.”
Osamu felt his body turn into jelly. Chuuya was always clever with his words- saying just the right things in just the right way. It was one of the very many traits he loved about him. Also, even though everyone around him does it now, hearing Chuuya call him by his given name is probably the best sound he’ll ever hear in his life.
After staring lovingly into each other’s eyes for way too long, Chuuya broke the silence with a chuckle and pulled away, standing up from the couch. “I should probably get dinner ready now.”
“Oh.” Osamu blinked himself back into reality. “Okay. Do you need any help?”
“No thanks, I don’t really feel like having you ruin another microwave.”
Osamu laughed. “Oh, come on! I could help you chop some vegetables or something!”
“Not a chance- it’s too dangerous.”
“Chuuya, I’ve chopped vegetables before.” His shoulders slumped as he gave his husband a pouting face.
“Nope. No, no.” Chuuya pointed a finger at him. “If you’re going to be having my kids, I’m not letting you near anything dangerous; you hear me?”
Osamu scoffed in amusement. “Really? You’re already monitoring me like this?”
“Yep. Now you stay there while I make some food.”
--
It was a good thing Osamu talked to him when he did, because he started his heat the day after their conversation. Chuuya woke up in their warm, shared bed, and immediately noticed the signs in his husband. After living with him for three years, how could he not?
And besides, it’s not like his extremely flushed face was subtle.
He made sure to prepare an extra nutritional breakfast for him, since he knew that he’d be exerting a lot of energy today. The first three days were always the worst cramp-wise, but they were also the days that held the most potential for…well, having children. Which is what they wanted now.
As Osamu was slowly eating his breakfast, Chuuya opened the cupboard where they held their medications and grabbed his heat pills. He slipped the tablets next to the cat without saying a word. Osamu gave him a muffled hum in appreciation.
“So, what day do you wanna do this?” Chuuya asked as he grabbed his coffee. “I’m fine with whenever, as long as I’m not at work.”
“Do you have work today?” Osamu asked once he put his chopsticks down.
“Nah, I have today off. I was supposed to go in, but business has been slow recently.” He got a job as a bartender not long after moving to Paris. He’d always liked mixing drinks, and if he got paid for it, why not? Besides, sometimes he’d be able to take some alcohol home if it was still unopened and nobody was buying it. Win-win all around.
“Let’s do it today, then.” The way they were both talking about this so casually was a little strange, but it was better than them both being red-faced and stuttering.
Still, he felt a little embarrassed, but tried his best not to let it show. “Alright…just let me know when.”
Chuuya gave Osamu a larger serving of food than he usually did, since he was in heat, but when his husband brought the plate over to him, he saw a few good mouthfulls still on the plate.
He wouldn’t say anything about it. Osamu was still trying to get his stomach used to eating three full meals a day, even after all these years. He was trying his best, and Chuuya couldn’t ask for anything more.
While Osamu sat on the couch in their living room, trying to read a book, Chuuya began to eat his own breakfast. He wanted to keep watch over Osamu this morning to make sure nothing went wrong heat-wise while he was trying to eat. Now that he didn’t have to worry about that, he was free to eat himself. Still, he wanted to finish as quickly as possible.
“Don’t choke, dearest.” Osamu called out to him as he flipped a page of his novel.
“I won’t, honey.” Chuuya responded after swallowing a big bite he’d just taken. He was able to use a much larger variety of pet names now. Since three years had gone by, Osamu’s gotten much more comfortable with the things he’s alright with being called.
He made sure not to choke, but he still finished his breakfast as fast as he could, quickly washing the dishes and placing them in the sink to deal with later. Once all that was done, Osamu closed his book and set it on the couch cushion.
“Bedroom time?” He asked, his eyes and tail already giving away just how much his heat had affected him in the time Chuuya was eating. The dilation, the rhythm Osamu’s tail was flowing at- it all pointed to arousal.
“Yeah, bedroom time. Do you need help getting off the couch?” Chuuya asked, taking a step closer to his husband. Osamu shook his head, pushing himself up to his feet.
“I’m not that far gone yet. Though, I think I might be come the next few minutes.”
“Well then, we better hurry.” Chuuya said, taking Osamu’s hand and leading him to their shared bedroom. They still had the same bed that was in his old apartment in Japan- they’d never changed a thing about it. The pillows, the sheets, it was all the same. And besides, it was big enough to fit the two of them at night, so they didn’t need to buy a new bed anyways.
Chuuya closed the door to their room once they were inside, and helped Osamu onto the bed before the two of them started taking off their clothes. “So…” He began while taking off his shirt. Neither of them had actually changed into their day clothes yet, since it was only ten in the morning (they slept in), and they’d both assumed they’d be doing this. “Just so I’m completely sure- we’re really doing this right now? If you seriously don’t feel ready, I can just pull out.”
“I’m ready. Don’t worry.” Osamu threw his shirt on top of Chuuya’s, hastily shimmying out of his pants afterwards. Chuuya would follow his example if he hadn’t gone to sleep in his boxers the night before. They were different that way: Osamu liked sleeping fully clothed, bandages and all, whereas Chuuya was more than happy to shed some layers come nighttime. One summer night, it was hotter than usual, and so he actually slept naked. Osamu didn’t mind that one bit; though he did make some inappropriate jokes.
“You know I can’t stop worrying. Not about you.” Chuuya had meant for that to sound sweet, but when it came out, he realized that wasn’t at all what it sounded like. He quickly tried to explain himself. “I-I mean, you know, cause I care about you! Not that I don’t think you’re danger-prone or anything like that!”
“I know.” Osamu smiled, his tail giving an amused flick. He was holding his pants in his hand. “Chuuya doesn’t…have’t…explain.”
“I don’t have to explain.” He said it for him. Since his speech was slowing down and starting to come out all wrong, Chuuya knew he had to start working faster. The heat was starting to fog up his partner’s mind- which was ideal for babymaking (he’d researched)- but there was still one more thing he wanted to clarify. “So I’m finishing inside?”
This time, Osamu quietly chuckled at him. “Can’t have kittens if…you don’t…”
“I know that, I just…” Chuuya blushed. In their three years of knowing each other, and one year of marriage, Chuuya had never cum inside of Osamu when they had sex- not even if the hybrid wasn’t in heat. Osamu was just never comfortable with it; so now that it was suddenly a green light with him…well, it felt a little weird. He was excited, obviously, but he was also concerned about his partner.
Still, he wanted to have kids with Osamu. And if Osamu wanted the same thing, then why was he so anxious? He should really shove all those worries aside. Osamu had grown and healed a lot by now, he’s able to tell Chuuya if he really isn’t alright with something.
They’ll be okay. They’ve been okay for a long time.
The last thing that Osamu did while being completely in his right mind was pull down his boxers. Once they were halfway down his thighs however, his eyes went half-lidded and his hand stopped. Chuuya caught on, and pulled them off the rest of the way, dropping them on the pile of their shared clothes. He then crawled onto the mattress and slipped off his own underwear.
“Chuuya…” Osamu cooed, reaching out to wrap his arms around his husband’s neck. Chuuya allowed it, and afterwards leaned forward, causing Osamu to lean backwards until his head hit one of their soft, cushiony pillows.
This was a pretty new development in Osamu’s heats: being able to recognize him. Usually, his mind would be so clouded over that he didn’t even know what was right in front of him. Osamu had explained this to him before in as best detail as he could. He couldn’t really see or hear anything while fully submerged in his heat. He could smell scents fine, but he usually only picked up on the smell of his own arousal and need, since it was so strong. That meant that the sense that takes over during his heat is touch, making him even more sensitive to pleasure (and pain) than he usually is.
But a few months ago, while Chuuya was taking care of him, Osamu suddenly leaned in close, kissed his cheek and whispered, “I love you, Chuuya.”
So, yeah, Osamu’s mind works a bit better- enough that he can recognize his husband, but he still has trouble remembering things that happen while he’s under the influence of his genetic modifications. Chuuya’s happy to indulge him though, if he ever gets really curious about it.
“Just leave it to me, Osamu.” Chuuya said, leaning over to the nightstand and opening the drawer with the lube inside. He really should start taking this stuff out before they get ready, that would make things much easier for him. “I’ll take care of you.”
“Hmmmm.” Osamu hummed, smiling contently as Chuuya began to pour some lube on his ungloved fingers. He tapped the outside of Osamu’s thighs one, two times, and the hybrid fluidly spread them apart, giving Chuuya the access he needed.
As much as he despises Mori and his center for what they did to Osamu, making him learn tricks like this did come in handy every once in a while. He talked with his husband about it a long time ago, and Osamu said that Chuuya was fine to use the tricks on him as long as he didn’t have bad intentions.
Chuuya would never have bad intentions with his Osamu. Never in a million years.
He stuck one finger inside Osamu’s entrance, keeping a close eye on the hybrid’s reactions to what he was doing. Since he was in heat, he was a lot more honest with his reactions. If he ever didn’t like something, Chuuya would know immediately.
He still does when Osamu isn’t in heat, but that’s not very important.
“Chuuyaaaa!” Osamu whined, his lips pursing up into a pout. “More! More!”
“I hear ya.” Chuuya muttered, sliding a second finger in and starting to scissor them, causing the hybrid to moan and tilt his head farther back into the pillow. He always indulged Osamu during his heat, since not doing that just resulted in more whining, sometimes screaming, and even more commonly, crying.
As much as Chuuya liked to tease and deny his husband of what he wanted when they got really into their sex, doing it during heat week just wasn’t worth the power rush.
He continued to stretch him out, eventually adding a third finger once he figured it was good to do so. He thrusted, scissored, anything that would get a positive reaction from Osamu.
"Ah- hmn, nnm, mm! A-haah!" The arms wrapped around Chuuya's neck tightened as he hit Osamu's prostate, the hybrid crying out with a mewl shortly after. Chuuya stretched him out a little bit longer before pulling out his fingers and wiping them off on the sheets.
"Chuuya…" Osamu whined, melted chocolate eyes just begging for him to start touching him again. It was hard to resist, so Chuuya started lubing up his dick.
"No need to whine, I'm getting to it. Be patient." Chuuya said as he focussed on making himself slick. Even after all this time, he wasn't willing to take the risk of his size accidentally hurting his partner.
Osamu clearly didn't hear him, because instead of being quiet, he started whining even more. "Chuuya- Chuuya! M-More, please! Chuuya, I need you! Touch me, touch me! Chuuya, I'm dying! Chuuya!"
Normally he would have been annoyed with the noise, but he'd gotten used to it, so he wasn't too bothered. It was still hard to concentrate, but he could work with that.
"You're not dying, Osamu." Chuuya lined himself up, taking only a brief moment to look down before immediately locking eyes with his husband again. Just the smallest physical contact seemed to calm him down, since his mouth was now shut, and his tail- which was moved to the side to make things easier for them- was shaking with desire.
He placed his hands on either side of Osamu's head before pushing inside. Osamu keened, relaxing his body to make the intrusion easier. The hybrid's insides were hotter than normal thanks to the heat, causing Chuuya to lightly bite his lip to stifle a groan. He knew in this state Osamu wouldn't- and couldn't- make fun of him, but he didn't want to take any risks.
Once he bottomed out however, he allowed a noise to slip out the same time Osamu's lips parted to moan softly again. Chuuya took a moment to let the both of them adjust to the feeling, before pulling back and beginning to thrust his hips.
"Yea- mmnh! Ah, ah, Chuu-" With each movement Chuuya made, Osamu made a new noise to react to it. He made a mental note to grab his husband a cup of water to help his throat recover once they were done, since he was being particularly loud today.
"Fuck." Chuuya groaned, leaning down so he could thrust at a deeper angle, which Osamu made sure to appreciate very vocally. "You feel so good, baby. Feel so perfect around me."
Osamu mewled almost pathetically, his blush deepening once his mind registered the praise. He pushed his hips up, trying to get more pleasure from Chuuya. He got the hint, and started to pick up the pace.
"So good…Chuuya! Mm, Chuuya-" Osamu used his hold on Chuuya to pull him down even further, enough that he could reach up and connect their lips.
It was a dance he was familiar with. He had to kiss his husband without slowing down the pace of his hips, otherwise Osamu would get upset at him. Thankfully, he was a good multitasker, so it was an easy challenge for him.
He swallowed up all of Osamu's moans, whines, and other sounds alike. He made a few himself, but they hybrid masked them with just how much he was enjoying himself.
Once Chuuya realized he needed air, he pulled away from the kiss, taking deep breaths as he continued to pleasure his husband. Said husband was taking deep breaths of his own, mixed with sounds of arousal-fueled joy.
"Chuuya, more…I'm- mmn! Ah, hah- gonna cum, please…!" Osamu's begging was what really got him. Chuuya felt his cheeks heat up even more, and with a shaky moan, started moving his hips even faster to the best of his capabilities.
"Go- go ahead, Osamu. You can- hnm- You can let go whenever- fuck, God, you feel so good!" He was starting to get close himself. It was making him a little nervous, but that was quickly drowned out by excitement.
Osamu's insides tightened up again, probably because of the praise and not long lager, Chuuya watched as his husband's eyes screwed themselves shut, and ropes of cum painted over his stomach. Osamu whined and keened as he spilled over himself, giving Chuuya a spectacle he'd never get tired of seeing.
"So beautiful…" He mumbled, not really sure if Osamu would be able to hear him. He calmed down the roughness of his thrusts, but tried his hardest to keep up the speed of it. He wanted to help his husband through his orgasm, keeping him on a steady stream of stimulation until he recovered.
Once he did, Osamu kept his eyes closed. It was a habit of his, so he could focus more on getting his breathing back on track; and now that his heat wasn't so overpowering, his reactions to Chuuya's movements weren't as loud. He still whimpered and groaned, but Chuuya wasn't getting worried about his vocal chords as much anymore.
"Osamu, baby, I'm close." Chuuya warned once he felt the knot in his abdomen start to unwind. Osamu opened his eyes at that, bringing his legs up to wrap around Chuuya's waist.
He was trapped now; sneaky cat.
"Chuuya." Osamu whispered, clearly on the brink of passing out. "Please Chuuya, I want your kittens. Give me your kittens, Chuuya!"
"Fuck-!" Those words were Chuuya's undoing. He moaned, finally coming inside his partner after all this time. It felt incredible. Osamu let out a quiet gasp, squirming a bit at the strange new feeling.
Chuuya was positive he blacked out during his orgasm. There was no way he could've stayed completely aware when something felt that good. Once it was over and he was now trying to calm himself down, Osamu went completely limp- arms and legs losing their power and hitting the mattress. Both their chests were heaving. Their breathing was completely in sync, too.
Chuuya stayed inside of Osamu, laying on top of his partner briefly before turning their bodies to face the side so it was more comfortable for their sweaty bodies. The cat was out cold, purring against Chuuya's chest. It didn't take long for Chuuya to fall asleep with such a sweet sound to listen to.
When he woke up, his dick was still stuck inside his husband's ass. Osamu was already awake, peppering the top of Chuuya's head with kisses.
"Mr'nin." Osamu mumbled against his hair. Chuuya hummed in reply.
"How are you feeling?"
"Sticky." Osamu kisses his head one more time before pulling back so they could connect eyes. "Not a bad sticky, though."
"That's good." Chuuya said, glancing down at where their bodies were connected. Nothing seemed to have leaked out yet. "So, uh, do you…feel different? Do you think it worked?"
Osamu looked down at the same place, pupils shifting to match his concentration. "I'm …not really sure. I guess we'll see once you pick up a test for me."
"A test?"
"A pregnancy test, stupid Chuuya." Osamu huffed, shaking his head. "You're so slow sometimes."
"Hey, to be fair, I didn't know they made pregnancy tests for hybrids."
"They do. So you should buy me one when you have the time, okay?" Osamu smiled at him. "I'm really excited for this."
"Me too." Chuuya smiled back.
"So can you pull out and go to the store, then?"
–
So apparently- Chuuya only learned this after making a trip to the store- Osamu shouldn't even take the test yet, because it'll take a few weeks for him to actually get pregnant.
It's been three weeks.
Chuuya has definitely noticed some changes in his husband. For one, Osamu's body temperature was similar to when he was in heat, which he wasn’t anymore. He’s also been cramping, another heat symptom.
All good signs, but that didn't mean Osamu was enjoying them. In fact, when he wasn't sleeping, he was complaining to Chuuya. Which was something he did anyway, so it wasn't really a bother.
"Chuuyaaaaa." Osamu whined against Chuuya's chest. They were laying down on their bed, and the hybrid was currently laying on top of him, receiving scratches behind the ears combined with back rubs. "My stomach huuuurts!"
"Maybe stop whining and the pressure wouldn't be as bad." Chuuya replied calmly. "Want some water?"
"Noooo." Osamu shoved his head down dramatically, now muffling his voice. "My h‘mach h’rts too much."
"You still need to drink though, honey." He reminded him.
"Mmmmm I know." Osamu turned his head to the side. "This sucks."
Chuuya chuckled, moving to scratch behind the other ear. "I'm sorry."
"If you’re sorry, then why are you laughing?"
"Well, no offense, but you're cute when you pout." Chuuya then had the delight of seeing his husband go pink as he tried to make himself look angrier. "By the way, do you think you should take the test now?"
"Mm?" Osamu calmed down, his face going back to his natural color. "Oh. I guess…I could try."
Chuuya saw the hybrid's ears lower, and he immediately felt the need to comfort him. "Hey, it's okay. If things don't work out, I won't be upset."
"I know. It's not your reaction I'm worried about." Osamu pushed himself up, sliding off Chuuya's body to sit on their mattress. "I'm worried about if…they'll make it."
"The kid?" Chuuya asked.
"Yeah…" Osamu's pupils grew in sadness, and his tail stopped moving. "My mother…she had a lot of kittens. From what I remember, at least twelve. I was the only one who survived."
"Twelve? She had that many?" Now Chuuya was starting to feel a bit worried.
Osamu nodded. "Two of them were going to be my siblings. They died before birth. I…what if that happens to me? What if they die before they can even…?” He choked, his next intake of breath sharp and full of anxiety.
“Honey…” Chuuya sat up on the bed, and slowly opened up his arms. Osamu took the invitation, crawling closer until his husband could secure him in a hug.
“You’re strong. You’re a fighter, which means they’re going to be a fighter, too.” As much as Chuuya just wanted to tell Osamu everything would be okay, and that the baby would come out just fine, he couldn’t do that. He didn’t want to run the risk of lying to his husband. The best he could do was reassure him.
“I know. I’m sorry.” He was shaking now. Osamu never let himself get this visibly stressed; ever. That meant he was seriously freaking out about this. “Do you…want to know something about me?”
“Huh? Why?”
Osamu’s hold on him tightened. “It might distract me.”
“Oh…alright.” It made sense, but now Chuuya was curious. What thing would Osamu have not already told him?
“You know how Ma… that man called me Shuuji?”
He was about to say Master. Chuuya frowned, and he could tell based on the way his husband tensed up that his scent must have soured. It was always this way when Mori was brought into discussion. “...I remember.”
“That was…going to be my brother’s name.” Osamu sniffed, and before Chuuya knew it, his husband was crying against him. “H-He found out, and…and used it against me. I hate that name. I hate it so much. I…I…!”
“Hey, hey.” Chuuya whispered softly, moving his hands up and down the hybrid’s back to soothe him. “It’s alright. You need to calm down.”
Osamu pulled his hands away so he could wipe his eyes. Chuuya didn’t let go. “I-I don’t know what’s wrong with me. It feels like my emotions are all over the place.”
“Maybe it’s another sign.” Chuuya suggested. “Take the test, Osamu. I’m sure you’ll feel a lot better afterwards, no matter what the result may be.”
The hybrid took a few long, deep breaths, and stayed in Chuuya’s hold until his body stopped trembling. Then, with only slightly more relaxed ears, he pulled away and slipped off the bed. It was a good thing their house had an en suite bathroom, since that made quick trips like this a lot easier.
Now that his husband was gone, and he was all by himself, Chuuya realized that his own hands were shaking a bit. Osamu’s fear must have really gotten to him, huh? Thankfully, it didn’t take him very long to calm down. He was better at reassuring himself than he was with other people, after all.
Osamu was in the bathroom for four minutes. During that time, Chuuya moved so that he was sitting on the edge of the mattress closest to the bathroom. That way, he’d be ready the instant the door was opened.
His eyes were fixed on the knob, and as soon as it started to turn, Chuuya sat up straight, waiting in anticipation. Once it swung out all the way, Osamu stepped out of the bathroom, closer to him, until he could show Chuuya the pregnancy test.
The positive pregnancy test.
