Work Text:
The wolf invited me to dinner tonight
I wore my best khakis and button up
that is only for special occasions
I even let him drive his little sports car
He ordered wagyu steak, extra rare
and an expensive red
I ordered curly fries and a coke
ignored the waiters sneer
Being near him feels like home
I feel him deep within my bones
A pressure builds like a storm
on a summer afternoon
My barometer fluctuating from high to low
Home a place faraway in time
and deep within my heart
A whisper on the breeze
On the edge of dusk or dawn
Between dancing and stillness
He looked at me not through
sky blue eyes in the moonlight
and asked.
“Do you love your life, sweetheart?”
As I stirred my ice around my glass
I wondered about my place in this story
in his story
I wonder if I understand the thread I have woven myself into
Pain and grief has carved a path into my heart
I wonder what life has taught me in such a short time
What death may have taught him twice in one lifetime
I realize how insignificant and small we are
For the brief moment this life exists
The wolf watches me lick salt off my fingers
He leaned in close.
“My darling, could you love me?”
I slipped my hand in to his
as we walked
Under the full moon
Memories of choices made
I take a deep breath as he leans closer
I can’t resist him any longer
This wolf with lust for my soul in his eyes
my heart in his hands
A long kiss goodnight
My wrist to his mouth
A question answered, "Yes"
My heart pounds in beat with his
Warm lips
Sharp teeth
New beginnings
Thank you for bringing me home
