He watched in pure wonder as the other man rolled around on the grass and dirt in pure bliss. It brought joy to his features as he giggled and felt the grass beneath his palms. His companion rolled around and stopped only to preserve the most delicate flowers that sprouted along the fields and forests not far from the mountain. Many delicate flowers littered these harsh lands and he wondered if his friend would want to see them all, after all he was from the south farther, far from the east. The months on the water had deeply affected the honey haired man and he almost seemed desperate as he was led by the taller to a grove off the docks. He was a creature of the land much as he was one of the stones; the two were similar yet different by that aspect.
“Thorin! Come feel the grass here! It's truly a miracle that you brought us here, but yet you seem hesitant to feel our green lady’s blessing, come, my friend. Let us rejoice in the simple things of life, green grass, flowers, nature as a whole, and nonetheless our friendship!” The smaller being mused and smiled at him with his honey curls glowing from the sun’s rays.
“Of course, I didn’t seem to think the lake would affect you so, I apologize for we must return by the eve.” He replied solemnly, eyeing his dear friend’s expression falter. The hobbit huffed then laughed saying,
“It matters not! Just come join me here, be in the present, you great oaf!”
Thorin smiled and wandered over and plopped down beside, staring up at the clouds, amused by his friend’s antics.
They lay there for minutes, hours, who truly knows, comforted by each other's company. The smell of spring flowers and delicate dew drops light on the wind. Bluebells and daisies all around, the grove was beautiful and calm. Thorin aimed to forget about the fact that the dragon still lived, nor the fact that he would later send his love into that mountain, all that mattered at that moment was his dear Bilbo’s sheer joy.
