Work Text:
Hirano fumbled with his keys as he walked up the stairs to his apartment. While it wasn't a particularly eventful day at work, it still felt neverending, and he couldn't wait to spend the evening at home relaxing with his husband.
Before he could put his keys into the slot and head inside, he noticed a sign written on decorative cardstock taped to the door:
To My Beloved Taiga-san, Who I'd Marry A Million Times Over
Instantly, a wide smile covered the blond’s face as a chuckle escaped his throat. No matter how many years the couple spent together, Kagiura was always finding ways to surprise his one and only. Drinking in a deep breath that flooded his chest with butterflies, Hirano unlocked the door to see what was waiting for him on the other side.
Without even having a chance to shout out I'm Home, he was greeted with a trail of red rose petals to lead him to his destination. As he quickly took off his shoes, he also noticed a wedding veil hanging off the side of a chair placed next to the genkan. Another sign pointed to the fabric telling him to put it on, so the man did as instructed. It was the same veil he had worn while walking down the aisle on his wedding day, made with velvet lace and decorated on top with little artificial white flowers. Putting it on reminded Hirano of the best day of his life, so anticipation filled him to the brim as he wanted to see everything his husband had in store for him this fine evening.
Adorning the walls besides the rose petals were pictures from the life they had spent together thus far. Beginning with their time as just roommates in high school, it then moved into pictures from when they first started dating; just two teens who didn't know what they were doing, having to keep their relationship a secret from basically everyone they knew, but knowing for sure that they wanted to be together no matter what was thrown their way. Hirano felt his eyes start to water as he reminisced on those wonderful days. He wouldn't trade his life with Kagiura for anything in the world. Following those were pictures of the couple in college and from their first apartment; their first home that was all theirs. The place was maybe a tad small and cramped for two tall guys, but they didn't mind it, anywhere was home as long as they were together. Pictures from their engagement and wedding followed. No matter how much time passed or how old they got, their wedding was one day Hirano and Kagiura would always remember for the rest of time. So much love was shared between them that only continued to grow day-by-day as they headed into the future.
Following the rose petal trail further into the apartment, Hirano was next greeted by a bouquet of red and white roses placed upright on the table. Just like before, another note was waiting for him, telling the blond to carry it with him. Catching onto what Kagiura with planning, he couldn't help the laugh filled with love that came out as he picked up the beautifully prepared flowers. With how much his husband made him smile eye-to-eye on the daily, Hirano knew he was on track to develop crows feet wrinkles at a young age. He was fine with it though, he never wanted to stop smiling bright as long as he was with Kagiura. The version of himself that he could be when he was with his husband was his favorite self.
Reaching his destination, the final stop of the trail was in front of their bedroom door. As expected, there was a note hanging up on the closed door. It pointed to a radio sat on a chair next to the door instructing him to press play. Doing as told, he hit the button and within a second, Here Comes The Bride began playing from it. Unable to wait any longer to see his beloved, Hirano swung open the door to see what surprise was awaiting him.
The red rose petal path reached its final stop, and at the end, Kagiura stood next to the windowsill with the biggest, warmest smile on his face. His chocolate brown eyes softened when he saw his husband had finally arrived. The brunette was wearing a white dress shirt that had been ironed to perfection earlier that day. The large window he was standing next to had been decorated with twinkling string lights that, along with the setting sun outside, only made Kagiura glow more than he naturally did in Hirano's eyes. Asleep on their bed was the guest of honor: their pet cat, who, despite wearing a checkered bowtie her owner had dressed her up in, didn't seem to care in the slightest what was going on in the room.
Recognizing that he was meant to walk down the aisle right now, Hirano had to resist every urge inside of him telling him to go run and jump into Kagiura’s arms. With a bright red face, he slowly followed the rose path to where he glued his ocean blue eyes onto the other man who was waiting for him to arrive next to him. Mimicking his original wedding day, he walked confidently while holding the gifted bouquet up to his chest. As he walked closer, the brunette reached out his hand for him to take like the gentleman he is.
“Akki, what is all this?” Hirano was too stunned for words as Kagiura guided him to the spot reserved for him at the homemade altar. “You’re so– I just… I love you so much, I love all of this so much, truly I don't deserve any of this.” Tears threatened to fall from his eyes any second now while he felt nothing but unconditional love for his man.
“‘What’s all this?’” Kagiura chuckled endearingly as he gently lifted the veil up to give the man clear access to his husband’s face. “Didn't you read the sign out front? I'd marry you a million times over.”
Having spent his life dreaming of that special day, of course Kagiura was ecstatic that his dream had come true and that he was married to someone as amazing as his Hirano. That being said, as a married man, he was determined to spend his life going forward spoiling his husband and showing him that he would gladly marry him every single day if given the chance. He didn't need a big, expensive venue or a fancy party, he would happily marry Hirano with plastic toy rings while wearing rags. As long as they were bound together, he was as happy as could be.
“Are you trying to make me cry?” A lovestruck Hirano smiled with eyes still wet from the journey to get here.
Kagiura brought his thumb up to those blue eyes and gently rubbed below them while caressing his soft cheek. “If you do, I'll kiss them away.”
Hirano placed the flower bouquet he was still holding down on their bed before bringing his hand up to rest it on top of Kagiura’s. “Geez, you're too much!”
“I love you too!” Kagiura said with a chuckle. “So? How about it? Will you marry me again, Taiga-san?” He proposed.
“Of course I will, Akira.” He covered his husband's palm with kisses, slowly moving down to do his wrist as well.
Overflowing with love, Kagiura dove in and captured Hirano's lips on his own. Using his free hand, he reached up and shifted the veil the blond was wearing so the fabric covered the two of them up, creating a miniature world just for them. Hirano was the first to deepen the kiss, swiping at his husband's bottom lip to invite his tongue inside while simultaneously gripping onto his muscular bicep. With a soft sound, the brunette man opened his mouth while wrapping his arm around the blond's thin waist, pulling him in closer so their torsos were pressed against each other. They remained kissing until the absolute last second when they needed to pull away for air; a single string of saliva kept them connected. Their hot and heavy pants of air meshed together as they took a moment to breathe in that precious oxygen. Still feeling the delicious high from that kiss, they both immediately went back in, craving more, tongue’s meeting before lips, kissing each other like they were both starving animals and this was the only way to satisfy their burning hunger. They kept kissing for what felt like infinity, just drinking each other in, each kiss better than the last (though every kiss was amazing). Sounds of wet lips and soft sighs-turned-moans filled the room as they continued.
Both Hirano and Kagiura were slightly dazed and fully kiss drunk when they pulled apart. How much time had passed? Neither knew nor cared. They both sported matching puffy lips, looking so red that one would think they just applied a generous coating of high quality lipstick. Kagiura rested his forehead on top of the shorter man's head. “I have more planned just for you.” His voice was quiet, making sure nobody out there could hear in despite them being the only two people in the apartment.
Hirano exhaled out of his nose as he closed his relaxed eyes with a smile. “You're ridiculous in all the best ways.”
Kagiura chuckled at that response. “Well, I did take the day off to prepare everything! I had to make sure it would all be perfect for you, so I couldn't rush a single thing.”
“So? What do you have in store for me?” Hirano asked curiously. Stepping away for a moment, Kagiura grabbed his laptop, placed it on the flat surface in front of the windowsill, and opened up a video he had recorded earlier in the day.
In the video, Kagiura was wearing glasses and had his hair styled in a way different from his norm. He spoke in a fake accent, indicating that he was playing a character for the camera.
“Ahem, we're gathered here today to once again celebrate the union of Hirano Taiga-san and Kagiura Akira.”
Hirano couldn't hold in the laughter bubbling up in his throat. “You're both the minister and the groom?” It was a rhetorical question.
“I considered inviting a friend over to play the part, but ultimately I wanted to keep this just between us.” He answered anyways as he readjusted the veil on the blond's head.
“Do you Kagiura Akira, take Hirano Taiga-san, to be your husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do you part.” The character in the prepared video went quiet for a few seconds so the real Kagiura could give his answer.
“I do.” Kagiura held Hirano's hands up in his own so he could press kisses onto his knuckles.
“And do you Hirano Taiga-san, take Kagiura Akira, to be your husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do you part.” Just like the first time, the character paused again for the answer.
“I do.” Hirano reciprocated the act and kissed Kagiura's (still as prominent as ever) knuckles.
“You may now kiss the groom!” The video came to an end after that.
Even though they already did beforehand, the married couple were no strangers to doing these things out of order, so once again, they kissed. Unlike last time, this kiss wasn't as heated. It was more on the sweet and tender side, just wanting to completely cherish the other at this moment. Their lips were both a touch sloppy from earlier, but still, both were soft and cushiony. The world came to a halt as Hirano and Kagiura reconfirmed their lifelong devotion to each other.
Hirano was the first to pull away. He moved his head to the crook of the younger man's neck. “I love you so much, Akira. I love that your husband and I love that I'm able to spend my life with someone as amazing as you.” He had gotten better with opening his heart up over the years, but that still didn't stop how red his face burned as spoke.
Kagiura wrapped Hirano tightly in his arms using the perfect level of pressure he knew the other liked. He felt his husband melt against him; unable to tell where one of them ended and where the other started. “I'm truly the luckiest man in the universe to be married to you, Taiga-san. I tell you this many times everyday, but I seriously love you so much, I don't know who I'd be or where'd I be without you.”
“I should be the one saying that last line!” Hirano retorted. “I never expected to fall so deeply in love with my roommate. I'm sure my life would be so bland and boring without you in it… I don't wanna think about that, it gives me chills.”
Back in high school, neither of them had a clue as to where life would take them. As time went on, they quickly discovered that their paths kept on crossing time and time again. It took time for them both to figure things out, but they're able to walk side-by-side hand-in-hand down the path of this mysterious journey called life together.
