Human

Summary:

Gojo-Sensei?

For a fleeting moment, Yuji's heart soars. He allows himself to hope. To think things are going to be okay.

Stitches line Gojo's forehead, neat and unnatural.

A short drabble about Yuji's POV during chapter 261

Notes:

I was reading this chapter and I just...what the fuck? I just couldn't think of anything but how horrible it must be for Yuji to see this, and I'm really trying to stop writing angst because it's making my life worse but like...HOW COULD I NOT?

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Yuji feels warm blood spill onto his clawed hands, splashing up to his shoulder. "You deserve this." It doesn't even sound like his own voice that says it. More of a snarl, something dark and feral. He tears into Sukuna's chest, searching wildly for his heart. He wants him to be in pain. To hurt. To suffer.

But Sukuna isn't looking at him. He's staring off into the distance, eyes wide with that same Cheshire Cat grin on his face. He'll regret not taking him seriously. Yuji will make sure of that.

Yuji isn't ready for Sukuna's fist slamming into the side of his head. Maybe that's why the demon is able to toss him away like he's a mere bug. He looks up as he tumbles across the ground, the familiar sound of Sukuna's manic laughter ringing through his ears.

Gojo-Sensei? For a fleeting moment, Yuji's heart soars. He allows himself to hope. To think things are going to be okay.

Stitches line Gojo's forehead, neat and unnatural.

"I apologize for underestimating you! I didn't think you'd go so far, Okkotsu Yuta!"

No.

No.

"No."

Yuji stares as Yuta forces Gojo's corpse to move forward, advancing on Sukuna.

"No!"

This is wrong. How could they do this? Was Gojo truly nothing but a weapon to them?

It's wrong. It's sick. Yuji has never seen anything so vile in his life.

Gojo had a proper death. He knew his sensei was probably happy, proud with the way he went out. Gojo-sensei wanted a good fight, something that really challenged him. He wanted to not be so unattainable. He wanted to be human. He'd gotten that. He died a human.

But here's his body, puppeteered and used by someone he cared about immensely. He isn't a human anymore. Obviously, no one saw him as that. Just a body that housed power. That's all Gojo is, apparently.

Yuji doesn't care if they win like this now. It's wrong. All of it. Everything about this. Gojo always saw him as a child, not a vessel for Sukuna. A kid. He knows he saw Yuta as a kid too, not just a powerful sorcerer with a dangerous curse. A child.

Why is Gojo not allowed to be a person instead of a sorcerer?

"Brother?" Todo asks, his voice unusually quiet. "It was a last resort. I don't like it either, but we needed a backup plan-"

Yuji sits on the ground, watching Sukuna and the mockery of Gojo open their domains. He can't bring himself to look at Todo. He knew about this. He knew and he let it happen. "None of us are human anymore." He whispers, bile rising in his throat and tears clouding his vision. "We're all just curses."

Notes:

Yk, I was never a really big fan of Yuta, idk why I just never was. And I'm a full Yuta hater now, all my homies hate Yuta wtf bro. YUJI AND TODO WERE BEATING SUKUNA'S ASS, WE DID NOT NEED THIS
