Work Text:

Time had not been kind to Erik. Years upon years spent in a cell, moved from cement to glass to plastic prisons had begun to show its strain in the man's face. Peter could see it in the lines on his forehead to his gaunt cheeks and dim eyes.

It was time to remedy that.

As he slid the tray down the hatch he watched as the man read the paper with a questioning look. As the man looked up and studied him, he thought that maybe for a moment the man recognized him. It wouldn’t be too hard after all, not many young people had grey hair. Or, at least that’s what Peter kept telling himself as he looked down upon the man who had led him out of the dark and into the home of Charles Xavier.

Charles, the man who had cared for him when no one else did- the one who treated Peter like he was one of his own. It was Charles who was there the day his powers finally manifested. It was Charles with his soothing words of comfort and reassurances that he wasn’t alone that meant more to him than he would ever be able to put to words.

But, it was Erik who had given him to Charles.

Peter wasn’t quite sure of his own emotions, of his thoughts on breaking the man out of prison but he knew Erik meant a lot to Charles and Peter owed it to both men to help. Besides, Charles always discouraged Peter from using his powers for fun things like stealing twinkies or game machines. This was a chance to do something both fun and dangerous.

With a smile to Erik, Peter placed his palms on the glass and began to vibrate his hands until the glass shattered. Part one was a success. He stood back and watched as Erik pulled himself out of his cell before grabbing the man and speeding them out as the hallway door opened, joining the group in the kitchen.

As they stood there, Erik and Charles arguing off to the side while Logan watched, Peter began to worry. The guards would find them soon and it wasn't like they were hiding very well.

As more security guards arrive and neither Charles nor Erik seem focused, Peter decides now is his chance to step up. He slides his headphones over his ears and all for a few moments all he can hear is the song in his ears as he runs laps around the room shifting bullets and making security fall to ground.

As time shifts back into focus and his superspeed fades away, he can see the look of awe on Erik’s face while Charles’ is filled with pride. Shifting his headphones back to his neck, Peter smiles, suddenly a little shy of his display of his powers.

“Nice job on saving your old man,” Logan greets him, patting him on the shoulder, “You did good, kid.”

“Charles would have realized what was going on had I waited a second, we would have been fine.” Peter answers, confused.

“Charles?” Logan asks, a look of confusion filling his face. “I meant Erik.”

Turning to look at the man in question, Peter can see both Charles and Erik’s expressions have gone blank, like they’re scrambling to figure out what to tell him.

“Erik’s my dad?” Peter questioned, approaching the two men and starring Charles, the one who raised him, in the eye. Peter didn’t know what to think anymore. This supposed murderer had saved him from his loneliness but was also his father who abandoned him the first chance he got?

“How long?” He whispered. “How long have you known?”

Charles’ silence answered for him.

Erik was his father and Charles had kept this from him for nearly ten years and obviously had no plans to tell him.

“I made a promise,” Charles said as Peter began to walk down the hall away from them all.

“You made me a promise too.” Peter said before he lifted his headphones onto his ears and sped off, the comforting sound of music and the feeling of the wind on his cheeks providing a sense of comfort unique to only his speed.
