"It's not the attic, you buffoon!! Look, this goes against all of my programing but there's something you need to know. There's one list item Hailey's never told you about." Beta's system stared beeping as he finally showed Scott. His jaw dropped as he saw item #143 from Hailey's list as Beta showed him. Kiss Scott Denoga.
"She had to kiss me??!!" this was shocking for Scott. They were best friends for all those years and she had wrote in her world-saving list that she had to kiss him..
"She still has. And it won't be easy since she's 'dating' this Sanjay guy." Beta looked at the photo cabin where was spread the curtain, they both heard shouts and laughs from in there and as soon as Scott hears that he looks back at the floor with that sad expression.
"That is.. She's dating him now and there is no way that she would want to kiss me like that or even if she does it probably won't mean anything for her since she'll do it just for the list.." Scott looked at Beta then.
"You want it to mean something for her? So you actually.. Want it??" Beta tilted his head to the side as he heard Scott saying that he wanted to kiss her and for it to mean something.
"Yes, I want it. I like her. I realized it a little while ago but she means everything for me and I want us to be to be together and do all those stuff everyone does when they're dating like holding hands constantly, cuddling and.. Kissing.." immediately as he mentioned that Beta's mouth went wide open and he didn't even know what to say. But soon, he found words.
"Wait, wait, wait!! So you like her and she means everything to you and–" then he just ran out of words. He actually expected him to like her by some point. Sometimes he found time to scan him whenever he was with Hailey - almost constantly his heart beat faster and he had butterflies in his stomach but never seemed to realized it.
Scott had never felt this kind of love, not even with Kristine, although he was devastated after she dumped him. But it was so much different with Hailey and he knew that. He just never realized all these feelings were more than friendship, all these stomach tingles, feeling his heart beating like crazy, he always thought that this was pure friendship between them. The boy did never think that Hailey would actually like him and they would start a beautiful relationship. But there he was now with Hailey having a real boyfriend that isn't him, he liking her and Beta showing him that the fate of the world is literally evolving around his lips.
"Okay, look, we have to get Hailey out of this 'trance' and nonsense with this Sanjay, from wherever he came and get her back on track with the list. She refused to do list items anymore, that includes kissing you and saving the whole world!!" Beta got Scott out of his thoughts telling him that now Hailey didn't want the list to rule her life. It was like she was denying her real feelings. And Scott of course agreed with all that.
After the dance Beta didn't want to go back to Hailey since she didn't really seem to miss him and went with Scott. They walked to his house, it was around 22:30 and Hailey was already home. On the way to the boy's house Patricia saw him, all sad and looking at the floor, completely lost in his thoughts. She walked to him.
"Scott, are you okay?" she questioned, kinda worried. She had seen Hailey earlier when coming home and she wasn't with Scott but Sanjay.
"Yeah.." he just wanted to lie and go home but something just stopped him. "No, not at all. I ignored the fact that I had to go with Hailey to the dance because of a stupid app. After that it tuned out that we were actually matching and I realized that I like her.. But I messed up real bad and now she's dating some guy from a cologne ad.." he admitted.
"She's dating him–? I saw them earlier, he was getting her home but.. I didn't know they were dating and she told me that she liked you a while ago..?" Patricia slipped a little, telling him something he didn't have to know. At least before.
"Rather liked.. I don't even think she'll need me as a best friend anymore. I don't want to lose her." all he could think about was her just telling him that she didn't want to be his best friend anymore and everything will just end.
"I'm going to talk to her." and with that Hailey's mom left, Scott got home with Beta in his hands, went straight into his room, got dressed in his pyjamas and laid in bed looking at the ceiling.
"Are you okay?" even with how much Beta disliked him, in that moment he wanted him to get better.
"No." short and simple, but true. He wasn't even a bit okay, he just wanted to get up, go into Hailey's room tell her everything and cry in her arms– Yeah, totally that will happen.
Scott just turned his back to Beta, trying to get himself to sleep. At that moment Patricia went into Hailey's room and sat on the bed.
"Soo, you didn't tell me what happened on the dance" Patricia's look was more than serious.
"Well, I went. And danced. And took photos. And got home" Hailey was looking right at her mom noticing the look on her face realizing that she might already know everything.
Patricia sighed. "Hailey, Scott told me everything. He is literally devastated by you and.. That guy dating. He told me that he messed up and when he went to fix everything–" Hailey interrupted.
"To fix what? He wanted to go with Destiny to the dance because he claimed to be cookies and she - milk. 'She might be my destiny' and then he's sad that I'm dating Sanjay?" Hailey didn't even realize anything.
"Hailey, can you go and talk to him? I don't really know what happened in both your minds but it will be better if you talked. You liked him yesterday and now.." Patricia tried to get her to talk with Scott again, to realize what her true feelings for him are.
"You can't tell me who do I need to talk to, you can't tell me who to date and who should I like or date, if I want to date Sanjay, then I will, if I don't want to be Scott's best friend anymore, then I won't!!" she shouted the last part, luckily Scott was asleep but Beta wasn't. He literally heard every word she said.
After she said that Hailey's mom left with the words: "You can't forcefully love someone. Once you realize your mistake - I'll be here." But that only left Hailey thinking. She had left Beta and the list and now the world.. Was doomed? She had told her mom that she didn't want to be Scott's best friend anymore. Well, she had to sleep too.
"Goodnight, Beta–" as soon as she said that she remembered. She just shook that off her head.
But Beta on the other side heard her with his technologies.. He said quietly: "Goodnight, Hailey."
A month and a half passed after that day with Hailey and Scott almost not having communication at all and the most shocking for Hailey - trying to force herself into loving Sanjay and being in a relationship with him. She tried to shake this off telling herself she loved Sanjay and not Scott, but nothing. Her feelings were telling it all. This day, Sanjay was in her room and she knew what she had to do. She grabbed her phone but when Sanjay saw er trying to call Scott immediately grabbed her hands.
"Hey, you don't need to call him, you almost don't talk already, what's the deal?" he tried to make her not call him but she was sharp. She pulled away and called him.
"Scott, I'm so, so sorry.. Can you come in my room?"
"I'm coming." he hang up. And immediately came. Hailey sat up from her bed for Scott to sit there.
"Okay, the past month and a half were the most terrible in my life. I've never felt so forced in my whole life, I tried to do everything possible to prove everyone wrong that I can love Sanjay but I can't do this anymore. That aren't my feelings. Sanjay, we're breaking up!" she was literally frustrated.
At that moment Scott's jaw dropped to the floor. He was about to say somehing but Sanjay got up from the bed and started. He was.. All red and his head was smoking??? "What do you even find in him?!! Ugh, everything was going fine, I separated you two, you stopped talking, Hailey gave up on her list, EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!!" he got even more red his head smoking like crazy. Beta then came to the window.
"You guys, this is a chaos not spy!! He brainwashed Hailey!" as soon as he said that Sanjay exploded. The three could see all the electronics that one chaos not has along with the mask and the human body to claim that it was a real person that burned in a little fire that soon went gone. Hailey's and Scott's jaws both dropped. Hailey realized everything - she was brainwashed and fell in love with a literal chaos bot, ignored Scott and told her mom that she didn't want to be his best friend anymore.
She sat on the bed all curled up while her eyes filled with faint tears. "Scott I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done any of this, I shouldn't have lied about Sanjay, I shouldn't have made him up and trust the bot.. I shouldn't have kept secrets from you."
"Hey, everything is okay, right? We cauht Sanjay–.. The chaos bot and he isn't here anymore. You were brainwashed, you didn't think straight and I get it.." gosh, how could he be so supportive after all that happened now.. Beta, who was behind Hailey out of her sight, showed Scott the list item and that he should bring it up. "And uh.. On the dance night–" Beta understood that he was going nowhere.
"Okay, shut up, Hailey, he knows about item #143." simple.
"WHAT?" Hailey first looked a lt Beta and then at Scott who nodded slightly. Well, that was embarrassing. Their eyes locked together for good seconds..
"Hails, don't freak out.. Back on the dance's night I tried to confess to you.. On the doorstep with the flowers.. But when Sanjay showed up I knew that this idea was doomed. I had to give him the flowers instead of you.. I wanted to tell you how much I liked you and I wanted to be with you. And I still want all of that." that was his confession. By what was written on the list he had hope that she still liked him.
Hailey looked at him, not wanting to say a word after understanding that he wanted to confess to her that time ago. Her hands just went to his neck as his went on her waist, they both stated leaning in and met halfway. The longer the kiss lasted the more lost they got in it as it became more loving and intensifying. Beta took the moment to take a picture. They finally separated and both giggled a little, continuing to smile warmly at each other. Then they heard Beta beep a little, turned at him and saw the photo of them kissing taken just seconds ago. Hailey blushed like crazy and burried a pillow in her face as her watch started beeping and turned green while Scott just kept looking at the photo with a wide smile. That was the start of a beautiful relationship.
